Like the mighty towers of the World Trade Center, a tent belonging to the Michigan chapter of Americans for Prosperity fell in Lansing today because it was attacked by terrorists who hate our freedom…to not pay union dues but still receive the protection organized labor provides workers.
Labor protesters, angry about Michigan’s passage of a Right to Work law, destroyed AFP’s tent thing today. Or maybe that’s what THEY want you to think! Maybe AFP wrecked their own tent to make labor protesters look bad on Drudge Report.

From the video it’s kind of hard to tell. It looks like union-y looking guys in Carhartt jackets are messing with the tent, but that doesn’t mean they were actual union guys. Plus, you can also see protest marshalls trying to stop folks from being mean to the tent. And then there is the question of…oh good God, who gives a shit about a freaking tent? There are a million cops around the capitol right now. They can arrest perpetrators if they want and they have been. A bunch of people are facing felony charges from last week’s protest.

I love how they keep trying to claim these bills are so popular, and then doing everything they can to pass them around the normal procedures and hide out while doing so.
To show you how "popular" these bills were, if they'd have been introduced in the coming session of the legislature in January, they would have failed…and that's even with a Republican majority in the state house. That's right, there were enough crossover votes from Michigan GOP house members that these things would have failed in the next Republican-controlled session.
I think that's what's more maddening to people than the actual legislation itself. The cynical nature of how they passed this, after Obama trounced Romney by nearly 10 points and Stabenow putting up a 20 point landslide against her Republican opponent, is what is really angering people.

punchvote.Sorry to keep whining, but even outside of the actual issue of Right-to-Work, even outside of how it was passed (literally without notice in a handful of days), is that this is just a little over a month after an election in which Obama won the state by nearly 10 points, Debbie Stabenow beat Pete Hoekstra by over 20 points, and Dems won the popular vote for state house races 53.5% to the Republicans 45.6%…and yet we still only won 51 seats to their 59 because of how they've redistricted the fuck out of the state in the past two decades. This is nearly as apparent in the congressional races here in Michigan were Dems won 50.3% of the vote to the Republicans 46.2%, but we only have five seats to their nine.
You'd think after these kind of the results the Dems would be screaming for a bi-partisan or non-partisan redistricting committee to have the seat outcomes reflect the vote outcomes, but nary a peep to be heard about it. Something is very wrong.
