I agree with all of that. There should be larger consequences for gun "accidents" as well. I feel like a lot of those aren't accidents, like the "it accidentally discharged and blew little Timmy's leg off while he was CLEANING it" kinds.

It can't just be the NRA. It must be the gun makers who give the money to the NRA. And I was wondering-- if that's what it comes down to, why don't we all contribute to a huge fund to give to these GOP men and women, with the understanding they won't take that money from the NRA. It needs working out but-- look at the deaths and grief-- is it just so these people can afford to buy tv ads?? It seems so disproportionate. Wouldn't it be something if we found some way to say "Here-- we'll pay for your tv ads, and we won't tell anyone. And there's just one thing you've got to do in return-- or not do."Of course the best would be gov't financed campaigns. And they wouldn't all have to bother with money raising and we wouldn't be bothered with having to bring billionaires' daydreams of polluting the entire world to fruition. And raiding our brains. And making our grandchildren poor people. ETC.

The 2a guarantees each State Governor a Militia. Period. Militia is a legal term with several requirements.Militia are adjuncts to regular forces.Militia are commanded by a regular officers subject to the UCMJ.Militia must be able to be identified as legal combatants.Militia are accountable to the Governor. There is no individual right to gun ownership in a Militia. The 'People' refered to in 2a is actually the State. The capital 'P' makes that explicit. The Militia Act of 1903 designated the National Guard as the sole authorized militia

"The 2a guarantees each State Governor a Militia. Period."

I don't see how it does. It doesn't say that, for one thing. It mentions a militia in passing but it does not guarantee them. I'd say that the 10th Amendment covers that.

"Militia is a legal term with several requirements."

Today, maybe. But in 1787 ... ? Like, you mention the UCMJ; that didn't even exist until 1951. Talking about how things are now is one thing, but I'm talking about why the Second Amendment was created.

"The 'People' refered to in 2a is actually the State. The capital 'P' makes that explicit."

I can't find a single transcription of the Bill of Rights that shows that with a capital "P". I'm trying to find an image of the original physical document to check for transcriber error, but either everyone's getting it wrong or it's a lowercase "P".

You can debate history all you want but Nino unworded "well regulated militia" before he had a chance to die, so you are literally arguing with a ghost. Well two ghosts if you count Scalia.
