SWAT teams rarely start the shooting in these situations. Their default mode, their training, is to surround the target and wait them out.
Where "Swatting" shootings occur, it is generally a patrol officer responding to a fake domestic violence call, which incidentally is statistically the most dangerous actual scenario for police officers.
Just from what I've read on the articles that follow these things; they usually claim some sort of Murder-Suicide situation with children is going on. Police do tend to respond quickly.
We've had at least one unfortunate Swatee answer the door armed because this is America. ETA- No, the Police just claimed he had a gun and never found one. Sorry, must have read this one as it unfolded. :(
You mean, ponder instead of act rashfully? They're not intellectually equiped for that. Those who could and are interested in law enforcement apply for better agencies, eg the FBI.
Trump’s Defense pick, Peter Hegseth did NDA to cover up a sexual assault. Now his dumbass lawyer has stated that police concluded that she was the aggressor. So much for the NDA, shouldn't she be able to disclose everything now? One report claimed she went to a hospital for a rape kit exam.
Like I said, sounds like a dumbass lawyer. I paraphrased his quote from a HuffPost article. I’m hoping she goes public with the full story/ police report.
What the fuck did they think was going to happen? Trump has never wavered for a second from outspoken support for Israel doing whatever the fuck it wants. It's one of the few consistent positions he has, along with hating Muslims. Fucking idiots.
One of the things on my mind lately is which pretty blond child they're going to hire to reprise the role of that kid screaming GOODBYE JEWS over and over in "Schindler's List," now updated for the much longer list of undesirables they're going to be rounding up starting next year.
I'll not shed a single tear for any single one of the motherfuckers who voted for what's coming.

Just like in 2016, I've read about a hundred hot takes about "liberals living in a bubble," but has anybody in the media stopped to consider the GIANT bubble you'd have to live in to not have heard Trump, with his own anus mouth talking shit about Palestine and Muslims? FOR FUCKS SAKE, the bubble is an intentional misdirection by the media oligarchs on the right and a complicit MSM that let them create the narrative.
That’s the one that hurts isn’t it. The stories of how we’re out of touch but they think after birth abortions happen and kids get turned trans by schools. They think that New York politician is better for Gaza
It's not like Donnie & Co. were keeping their plans a secret. The most effective part of the propaganda from the republicans was the parts that kept saying, "It's just Dementia Don being himself. He won't ever *do* that."
GUESS WHAT, DIPSHITS ... he's doing EVERYTHING he said he would. Get your head out of your social media bubble and actually LISTEN to politician's ACTUAL OWN WORDS.
I think, though, that it's pretty clear that many people never heard these things or they chose to ignore them. RW-slanted media is about 50% of the traditional media consumed in the US as per an article I read recently, so people aren't getting the full picture. AND, more people are getting their news from places like TicTok and Instagram (did I read over half of people now get their news there? I think so, but don't quote me for sure). So, it's not enough to say that some voters are Face-Leopard voters, although for sure, many are. Some are ignorant. And we can blame them for being incurious fucks, for sure, but it's a problem that people who value dissemination of the truth need to desperately figure out.
"I don't live in Gaza, therefore I can vote against the person who might help, and vote FOR the person who won't help, because the media pretends to listen to me and is blowing smoke up my ass about how noble I am in trying to bring the Dems to heel argle bargle ..."
Well thanks. Although for me it's less about being nice and more about really understanding the issues that got us to where we are, putting the blame squarely on where it needs to be addressed. If the analysis isn't correct, than we are doomed to repeat the failures.
Nah. Fuck these assholes. They knew the score. They just thought they'd get away with a harmless "protest vote," and they don't want to be held accountable.
You weren't played. The right made no effort that I can see to reach out to that community, or to hide that they'd take whatever guardrails Biden put in place (regardless of what you believe those to be) away.
Now imagine their "disappointment" when The Homunculus allows the Israelis to eliminate all Palestinians in Gaza, pave over the ruins, and recreate it as a resort strip called Trumpland.
Police and staff were initially flummoxed when shoes started disappearing from a kindergarten in south-west Japan, not least because the “thefts” were of single shoes, not pairs.
Unable to get to the bottom of two incidents reported earlier this month, police installed three security cameras in the hope the thief would strike again, according to the Mainichi Shimbun newspaper.
Then, when a single shoe went missing from Gosho Kodomo-en kindergarten in Koga, Fukuoka prefecture, on the night of 11 November, investigators sifted through camera footage, believing they had finally caught their footwear-filching suspect in the act.
The culprit, however, turned out to have four legs, a coat of orangey-brown fur and sharp claws.
Camera footage revealed that a weasel had appeared from behind a wall the previous evening before approaching cubbyholes storing children’s indoor shoes and making off with a single white shoe in its mouth – all in the space of about 10 seconds...
Japanese-language references to the weasel have similarly negative connotations to those found in English. According to the late Japan-based naturalist CW Nicol, the musky scent of the Japanese weasel gave rise to the saying itachi no saigo-pei. That literally translates as “the weasel’s final fart”, but is used to refer to the last word or act of an unpopular or dislikable person.
I've been watching this one YT channel called 'Solo Travel Japan.' He's notable for not speaking over the video footage and giving you the cost for various things in yen and dollars.
I do know a few phrases and words in Japanese, but can't read it.
"Representative Lauren Boebert (R-CO) asked panelists if they are familiar with "rumors that have come up to the Hill of a secretive project within the Department of Defense involving the manipulation of human genetics with what is described as non-human genetic material, potentially for the enhancement of human capabilities – hybrids." All four speakers said no, apparently having missed The X-Files back in the '90s.
"Are there any accounts of UAPs emerging from, or submerging into, our water, which could indicate a base or presence beneath the ocean's surface," she suggested. Again, no one offered support, but one panelist – journalist Michael Shellenberger – stated that UAPs have been reported emerging from beneath the waves."
No doubt she heard something about the infamous $1000 hammers in the budget and underwater (since the purpose was to hide expenses related to tapping Soviet underwater cables) and put 2 and 2 together and bless her heart, she came up with 7.
(You just know, though, that between the grandstanding performative posturing and the conspiracy loons that now control 2/3 branches of the federal gov't, there will be soooo much shit like that aired in the foreseeable future).
Last week, a girl called my office. She is 17, and told me that she called me because her grandpa told her to call me if she was ever in trouble and needed a lawyer.
Grandpa, in this case, was shot, stabbed, and/or bludgeoned to death during a home invasion at age 46. Just so we're clear, he was killed while committing the home invasion, so establishing the exact cause of death was not a high priority. Grandpa was a notorious collector/enforcer for various gangs and drug traffickers and was a suspect in two killings and a disappearance during the three or so years that I knew him. He was a bad guy who did bad things for bad reasons to equally bad people. As such, he was the living embodiment of the line from John Cusack's character in Gross Pointe Blank: "If I show up at your door, chances are you did something to bring me there." Not unlike Omar Little, he never -- so far as I know, and I know a lot about him -- harmed a person not involved in drug trafficking. Hurting people was his business; he didn't do it if there was no profit in it. He was one of the best clients I ever had. Criminal charges, even doing a stretch of time, was just the cost of doing business.
With all this ping-ponging around my brain, I prepared myself for whatever awful shit his granddaughter was involved in. After all, "in trouble" to Grandpa could mean anything from misdemeanor battery to capital murder.
Turns out, she just wanted to interview me for a social studies project about the Constitution.
Grandpa to a 17 year old at 46. This is a family that doesn't appear to be great at delayed gratification, would probably all fail the marshmallow test.
You know the type. Professional criminal. Model inmate. Perfect gentleman in court; goes out of his way to make it easier for you to put on his leg irons. Has an NCIC report that runs 80 pages.
My wife, girlfriend at the time, was with me when we crossed paths with him while xmas shopping. He went out of his way to come over and say hello to me. Not-yet-MrsMatt recognized him from seeing his photo in the newspaper, and after he'd gone on his way, she asked, "Isn't he dangerous?"
"Not to me. I'm the last person he'd do anything to."
RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov 16 (Reuters) - Brazil's first lady, Janja Lula da Silva, swore at billionaire Elon Musk during a G20 social event on Saturday at which she spoke about the need to regulate social media to rein in misinformation.
A ship's horn sounded as she spoke and she joked, "I think it's Elon Musk," before adding, "I'm not afraid of you," and using an expletive in reference to him.
Ms. Swift has been quiet because she's busy writing protest songs.

A word that has no meaning anymore.
Divested of its meaning (Wallace Stevens).
Just also happens to be one of the greatest poems ever written.
True fact: Wallace Stevens lived in Hartford, my current home. Along Asylum Ave, there are engraved stones with stanza from "“Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird". I have walked along that street/poem many times.
https://ctmuseumquest.com/?page_id=4186
Please, if you wouldn’t mind obliging me, take a photo and post here. He’s been one of my all-time favorite poets ever since I can remember, and I’m no spring chicken.
It may be a while before I take that walk. Here's a website that has pictures, the poem's text, and some explanation.
http://tm01001.blogspot.com/2014/08/literary-site-wallace-stevens-walk.html
pfft. It's just what "opponents say." Who gives a shit what people "say"?
"Center for Christian Virtue?"
Taliban.
It didn't pass the OK Supreme Court.
Slight note: referring to that guy as a politician from New York seems to deflate his fan club a bit.
Felon fraudster and rapist.
They don’t care about that. But politician strikes a nerve. The dim bulb starts to light up that just mayyyyybe they’ve been fooled, best I can tell
Sadly, you're probably right.
"Former casino owner from Queens"
Failed businessman. How much of your money did he get from you?
Makes em real mad
They will start by deporting undocumented immigrants. Then they will start claiming people are undocumented immigrants. Watch this space
Trump’s appointee said he wants to deport families of undocumented people. Trump will let him try. Talk about reality TV!
Where was your great grandfather born?
You know what's weird to me - I don't know where my great grandfather was born. Maybe Ireland, maybe NYC. I assume they came here legally. Requests for family information were not ill received exactly, but info was never forthcoming.
And so it begins.

Oh, Lord. Joe and Mika went to Mar-a-lago. "What we did agree on," Mika said, "was to restart communications." Access. "He seemed interested in finding common ground with Democrats." Credulity. They revert to their mean.
What total bullshit.
They think access to the demented one is the "be all, end all" NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR HIS STUPID SHIT.
Apparently, > 50 % of the US do.
Also, not 50% of the US. 50% of voters, maybe. But definitely not 50% of Americans.
I suppose you can document that? I mean, you typed "definitely."
The numbers are all out there.
Trump won the popular vote ... but that popular vote doesn't represent ALL Americans. Not even all Americans who could vote. It's only representative of all Americans who DID vote.
But that isn't close to "50% of Americans". And the media and folks repeating that it is are doing a giant disservice to America by implying that the GOP has a larger mandate than they earned.
Voting for a person and wanting to listen to a person have no direct correlation.
Sanewashing is going to get cranked to 11. Pre-compliance.
Cable news personalities are not our friends. They're entertainers reading scripts in-between ads for boner pills.
Okay, finding ground with democrats means FOLLOWING APPROPRIATE GOVERNMENT PROCEDURES like getting your noms approved by congress.
Jesus Christ, these useless assholes. "Common ground with democrats" = we hope they'll enjoy eating shit and that they'll ask for more.
That
It means oh, I am totally willing to work with them so long as they give me everything I want. And if they do not, that means they are not working with me
Fuck the press so fucking hard
Bend the knee and kiss the ring. Humiliate yourself and return to the fold. Willingly give away what teensy credibility you still held.
I knew they'd do this.
That they are pushing that find common ground bullshit after we KNOW he will do no such thing (see too, 16-20) and has promised to go after Democrats is something special
Yeah, his crop of cabinet candidates sure looks like an attempt at finding common ground: they are despised almost equally by everybody.
Deluded.
Predictable. But did these two have any credibility to begin with?
Mika is pretty good looking, other than that.....nope.
Just a smidge. And now that's gone.
If I were ever given the opportunity, I'd go Donald Sutherland, point at them and scream "WHORES!"
Sure, sure, he wants common ground.
Ya know, after he rounds them all up and what not.
Mother fuckers are working for him goddamn it.

Let us hope they can get the names of the people who hired him.
They just arrested another one, a 16-year old, in Eastern Washington last week. Same thing. Even advertising swatting "services" all over the country.
I mean, they could just knock on a door. Just pretend all the people they get calls for are rich white people
The Washington kid was using sound effects to mimic gunshots and people screaming. The police responded appropriately in the three local events. I don't know anything about the responses in events in other states.

swatter for hire
Ya know...maybe the cops could, idk, do some basic checking up on things before swatting in?
Just a thought
Just from what I've read on the articles that follow these things; they usually claim some sort of Murder-Suicide situation with children is going on. Police do tend to respond quickly.
We've had at least one unfortunate Swatee answer the door armed because this is America. ETA- No, the Police just claimed he had a gun and never found one. Sorry, must have read this one as it unfolded. :(
Maybe, but the problem is these asswipes give a lot of details. Cops also get criticized if they don’t respond and the threat was real.
This dipshit threw his life away. Every fake swat call should be treated as attempted murder
oh for sure, I am FINE with this POS facing the consequences of his actions. And all the ones like him.
You mean, ponder instead of act rashfully? They're not intellectually equiped for that. Those who could and are interested in law enforcement apply for better agencies, eg the FBI.
Out of tens of thousands of online applications, the FBI Academy selects 1,100 people a year.
Good. Bury him.

Unlike friendly, loving assault.
Like I said, sounds like a dumbass lawyer. I paraphrased his quote from a HuffPost article. I’m hoping she goes public with the full story/ police report.
Yeah, because why is he paying her the settlement if he's innocent.
The article stated that he was afraid he’d lose his job at Fox News.
lol
Has he MET Fox?
Only way that would happen is if he starts dating a non-white female.
No Jenn, she aggressively wanted him to assault her.
"When you're a star they beg you to do it."
Look what you made me do type shit?
Lots of that going around these days.

Absolutely not. Like the guys who did jail time trying to forcibly change the outcome with Trump's friendly riot.
They were played willingly. Many tried to tell them and they went la la la la and threw a tantrum.
And while these stories are nice, i doubt it reflects many voters sadly. They’d do it again tomorrow
But the Dems did not fill in the blank
We hadda let the fascist win.
Wait, whatta ya mean we are going to face consequences????
Biden is so old too.

I must agree. I was telling my brother about the things The Homunculus plans on doing, and all he could say was, "Where's the source?"
"Read a transcript of his fucking speeches."
They were told over and over and over again: "This is just Donnie being Donnie."
People are insane AND stupid.
He's voted for The Homunculus three times (16, 20, and 24) and is a member of a rabid Baptist church - well, a Baptist church.
I cannot believe you actually travel to visit him.
We are the only members of the immediate family still above ground, and leaving aside his ideological rabies we get along quite well.
It's not like Donnie & Co. were keeping their plans a secret. The most effective part of the propaganda from the republicans was the parts that kept saying, "It's just Dementia Don being himself. He won't ever *do* that."

P.S. - Maya Angelou's quote should be tattooed on the DIPSHIT'S FOREHEADS.
Nah. Fuck these assholes. They knew the score. They just thought they'd get away with a harmless "protest vote," and they don't want to be held accountable.
Not our fault! Dems did not pat our heads and rub our tummies enough. We just HADDA vote for the guy who said he would shoot us in the face
You. Were. Warned.
And we were told every time we warned them that was just driving them further to the right.
You weren't played. The right made no effort that I can see to reach out to that community, or to hide that they'd take whatever guardrails Biden put in place (regardless of what you believe those to be) away.
They played themselves.
Not to mention that just about the only campaign promise he actually fulfilled after 2016 was to move the US Embassy to Jerusalem.
"But Biden didn't move it back, so he's just as bad."
It's like how Biden didn't get rid of all trump Tariffs, so both sides
Never mind Scotus blocked him from doing that.
*throws things*
I would like that comment soo much, if I could.
I'm 99% sure I don't have you blocked, so I'm not sure what substack weirdness is going on. I will have to double check when I have more time.
It's not you, it's me. I run an old version of Windows that Substack doesn't like.

"Itachi no saigo-pei."
There are soooooo many people I can use that phrase on.
It's even prettier in kanji.

I've been watching this one YT channel called 'Solo Travel Japan.' He's notable for not speaking over the video footage and giving you the cost for various things in yen and dollars.
I do know a few phrases and words in Japanese, but can't read it.
A feel good story if I ever read one!

The conspiracy theorists on the right love aliens. It's a great distraction and someone else to blame things on.
It's all bullshit.
Are you not entertained?
God she is so stupid.

It's space aliens. Duh.
No doubt she heard something about the infamous $1000 hammers in the budget and underwater (since the purpose was to hide expenses related to tapping Soviet underwater cables) and put 2 and 2 together and bless her heart, she came up with 7.
I demand hearings on Jewish space lasers!
(You just know, though, that between the grandstanding performative posturing and the conspiracy loons that now control 2/3 branches of the federal gov't, there will be soooo much shit like that aired in the foreseeable future).
Mazel Tough!
She would have been 6 or 7 when he died.
Ah. Better, certainly.
boy, that post sure went on a journey.
I expect one day to see it getting a trim on a "Girl with the Dogs" video ;)
I beg your indulgence. I've been away for a while, and I'm feeling garrulous.
Phew!
You know the type. Professional criminal. Model inmate. Perfect gentleman in court; goes out of his way to make it easier for you to put on his leg irons. Has an NCIC report that runs 80 pages.
Oh yeah. I recall people like that.
