Yep... and also too, the Second Amendment provided a guarantee that if Congress failed to fund state militias - one of the enumerated powers in Article 1, Section 8 - those militias could still be formed.
That section of the Constitution pretty specifically spells out that Congress is in charge of well-regulating state militias... they're responsible for "organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress."
So, Congress is in charge of funding, arming, and writing the rules that govern well-regulated militias. A well-regulated militia, then, is one that is organized and trained, that reflects the military discipline Congress has "prescribed."
Anti-federalists were afraid that a tyrannical Congress could defund state militias to eliminate state opposition, and then legally raise a standing army (another enumerated power) to take over. The Second Amendment assured the anti-federalists that Congress couldn't hamstring the states' ability to raise a militia simply by cutting the militia budget.
The only oblique reference to individual ownership was a request by a delegate from Pennsylvania to guarantee that people could hunt on their own land... a request that was completely ignored.

The odd thing about referring to an automatic weapon as a hunting weapon is that you generally only get one shot with most animals. They bolt after they hear the shot. Some die from a bad shot, and others take off running and die miles away. The time you spend tracking it down and dragging it away would be better spent at a part time job to buy a side of beef. Two shots is a story a hunter will tell you more than once because they won’t forget it.
Damn! Emma is a total rock star! She was so composed and on point during that whole painful q & a, asking the audience to quiet down so she could hear and rebut was pretty amazing. Also, the history teacher take down with the students giving her a standing ovation! Yes!
No way would women have the right to buy firearms or be part of a militia because they were considered property and didn't have the right to vote
