Unless you're cheering for Russia to conquer Ukraine, there's really no coherent reason to oppose sending Ukrainians military aid. Sure, you might not like the government spending money, but this is a drop in the overall defense bucket, so unless you're calling for draconian cuts (and no aid for Israel or other allies, of course) then yo…
Unless you're cheering for Russia to conquer Ukraine, there's really no coherent reason to oppose sending Ukrainians military aid. Sure, you might not like the government spending money, but this is a drop in the overall defense bucket, so unless you're calling for draconian cuts (and no aid for Israel or other allies, of course) then you just sound ridiculous saying it's about the money. (It's also, like most foreign aid, pumped back into our domestic economy--not the most efficient way to boost American jobs, but not a total loss either).
This also risks not a single U.S. soldier, and gives us an opportunity to bleed down our most aggressive geopolitical rival and protect NATO from Russian aggression. We get to stress test our weaponry in real combat, without risking any losses to ourselves. And the upside of Ukraine surviving is a weakened Putin, a stronger European alliance, and survival of a large democratic state against unjustified aggression (plus, China is watching, and analogizing this to Taiwan).
This is a foreign policy no brainer, which probably explains why people with no brains are trying to block it.
Ukraine is hardly a "proxy". But I guess if you're in the "Putin has a right to rebuild the Soviet Empire" camp, any country defending itself from Russian aggression is just a pawn in America's game.
You realize the word "proxy" doesn't denote subterfuge, puppetry or other kind of ill-intent, right? It's an amoral statement of fact regarding the relationship of the American state and the war being fought, not to Ukraine. You said it yourself, the US is benefitting from this arrangement by weakening a geopolitical rival.
Exactly. It's not like we're boxing up billions in cash and sending it to Ukraine. Most of that "aid" money will be spent right here in the good ole USofA, further enriching our poor suffering defense contractors.

"gives us an opportunity to bleed down our most aggressive geopolitical rival"
The word "us" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there.
Well, I'm not speaking for you Putin fans, to be fair.
Neither are you beating the "proxy war" accusations when you talk about the cost-benefit analysis for the US alone.

Wow, even for YOU, that's doublespeak , doublethink, and gobbledygook beyond description!
You make too much sense for the neo-isolationists/fascists of the GQp.
I can only conclude they want Russia to win, and our alliance to weaken. How does that make them anything but anti-American?
Chaos is opportunity and they envision themselves as profiting from it.
They hate democracy as much as Putin does.
Yep.
The GeeOhPee far Reich is in Pooty's pocket.
Which makes me wonder how so many of them were willing to break rank on this. They must know they have targets on their backs.
Not to mention all that sweet kickback from defense contractors from filling all the orders for new/uprated weapons!

Yep.
Better they're supplying our allies doing the fighting than our troops having to use them.
Exactly.
