"Oh, and Gaetz allegedly wrote his sex hotel off as an expense, too, because serving Florida taxpayers un-high and with blue balls, that’s nonpossible!"

My laughing is just trailing off....now.

"Make sure you have finished digesting your breakfast before proceeding."

Newspapers (both print and on line) would get way more subscribers if they covered stories like you do, Marcie! :-)

My understanding is that the DOJ did not find the girl to be a credible witness and thus there was little likelihood of conviction. The House Ethics committee has less stringent standards since all they want to do is smear him. On the other hand you have only to look at his BFF, now inf prison, to see that Geatz is pretty dirty.

Heh heh heh. Gaetz thought he won when he threw McCarthy clean out of a job. He's finding out he won nothing, and he doesn't like it. Chortle cackle chuckle.

I wasn't aware that Soviet was still permitted to be used as a pejorative in the Republican Party.

I honestly don’t know why republicans didn’t give Groomer Gaetz the Madison Cawthorn treatment and throw a shit ton of money behind a primary opponent. They certainly despise him enough to do it.

Fivehead Gaetz is a LAWYER?

I did not know you could get a law degree with box tops. I need to pay more attention.

Ehh, I think it's hypocritical to be outraged about Gaetz paying a 17 yr old girl for sex when people here routinely say "Sex work is work" and choice feminism appears to reign supreme on this topic. Technically it's a crime at her age but if a Democrat can purchase sexual consent then so can a Republican. Matt Gaetz is gross as hell but it's disingenuous to be offended about him fucking 17 yr old girls if you're supportive of commodifying and exploiting those same female bodies the day they turn eighteen.

Saying "sex work is work" means that those who do it should have labor protections in place and the profession should have standards and should abide by them, with legal repercussions for those who would flout them and exploit the workers, not whatever it is you're attempting to argue. I'm a feminist and I hate that there are women and children being driven into this work just to survive. What consenting adults do, safely, where consent can always be withdrawn at any time, is a different thing altogether. Why is this so difficult to understand?

Having sex with an underage girl is not “technically” a crime. It’s a fucking crime, whether you paid her or not.

And prostitution is misogynistic and exploitative whether the woman consents or not. The point in this situation is whether or not a 17vyr old can consent versus an 18 yr old consenting and my argument is that there's not a lot of difference between the two. These choices made to engage in this are not made in a vacuum.

The line has to be drawn at some point for where a person can legally give consent.

Poor Carl Hiaasen! How can he ever dream up a novel as hilariously disgusting as Congresscreep Gaetz's frolics, or a villain as absurdly weaselly? Maybe the unique blend of crude maleficence and odious, obvious hypocrisy of the hideous reign of King Donnie the Mad are just too much even for him, hence the absence of a new adult novel since 2020's Squeeze Me, which features Melon taking a fancy for one of her Secret Service detail.

I've maintained for years that Hiaasen has an easy job. He just has to cut an article out of a Florida newspaper and slightly embellish it.
