Remember, Marcia, that Trump does not have immunity for crimes that are not part of his “official duties,” which means he certainly can be prosecuted (by the next administration, obviously) for blackmailing private law firms and others.

They're not going to have any DEI policies? They're going to schedule partners' meetings, in New York, during Yom Kippur? They're going to only hire people who can play golf? They're going to serve only ham sandwiches and alcohol at all firm functions? No tampons in the restrooms? No maternity leave?

Ta, Marcie. Marc Elias is a total badass, and absolutely fearless when it comes to defending democracy.

What the actual fuck?

I was under the impression that law FIRMS are SUPPOSED to be partisan on behalf of their clients and that it's the JUSTICE SYSTEM and JUDGES that are supposed to be non-partisan. Apparently, in Trumpistan, it's the other way around.

I hate living in Trumpistan.

They should have told the Melon Felon to go fuck himself with a rusty garden weasel. What a crew of cowards.

"The revenge tour against the judiciary"

"Jamelle Bouie wrote in the NYT this week, in broad strokes, that the president's retribution is not limited to his political enemies but is directed to America itself. After all, we rejected him in 2020 and such disrespect can't go unanswered. If you start with this understanding, all the chaos and destruction makes sense. The pain he is inflicting is not a bug, it's a feature."

At least when you make a deal with the devil, he holds up his end of the bargain instead of just saying, "Too bad".

"Saturday he suspended security clearances for New York AG Letitia James, Alvin Bragg,"

Wasn't it just a few weeks ago that the White House was arguing that they had to drop their criminal case against Mayor Adams (without prejudice, so they could extort him) because it was getting in the way of them sharing classified information with Mayor Adams?

But the chief law enforcement people for New York and the City of New York, who needs to work with them.

Kaplan's statement to the firm makes no sense. He says they looked around and no one was willing to back them. But they themselves chose not to back Perkins Coie. "Sucks to be you!"

What is all this going to do to the law profession, overall? Either you're a Trump toady or you're banished. What practice can you do that's not touched by government?

I'm one of the great mass of people who can't access legal help without going bankrupt, setting up a will or dealing with really low-level stuff is about the limit, but this means there's no one to defend the environment, or being disappeared by the government. It's a catastrophe.

It's depressing and enraging to see that regular people like us are doing what we can to fight back while people with real powers—law firms and politicians—are rolling over, despite being much better equipped to fight.

One of the only ways this funhouse slide into fascism might slow down is if Roberts considers how history is going to remember him, and strong-arms Gorsuch and/or Coney-Barrett into reality. Alito and Thomas are so deeply up the ass of their billionaire owners and/or Jeebus that they would vote however instructed to. Kegs is the Pete Hegseth of SCOTUS - a worthless drunken DEI hire. But 5 to 4 could change the future, at least on the most blatantly egregious shit that’s going to wind up in their laps.

Not predicting it’s gonna happen. But I won’t be completely shocked if it does. 🤞
