As you may be aware (SIGH), idiots on 4chan have taken to making up fake Twitter profiles for Antifa and Antifa “members.” This is something they do with stunning regularity in order to push their own far Right positions. Often it’s women rejecting feminism, black people rejecting anti-racism, or people embracing those things in the most absurd way they can imagine, in hopes of getting reasonable people to think that they support absurd things.

On Wednesday, trolls on 4chan’s /pol/ board attempted to launch a new #PunchANazi/#PunchNazis campaign on social media in which their fake Antifa profiles would support domestic violence, in hopes of convincing people that the Left LOVES domestic violence and thinks it is super great.

The goal, as usual, was to get actual Antifa and supporters to retweet the memes, which of course did not actually happen.

The memes included clever jargon like “She said she was right-wing, so I gave her a left hook,” and “It’s all right, she’s alt-right,” next to pictures of women with black eyes. There were also several with pictures of abused children with text suggesting they be murdered because they might be the next Hitler.

However, given that they posted their nefarious plans on a public message board, and that this campaign was both incredibly obvious and stupid, said plans were quickly discovered by several people online, including David Futrelle of We Hunted The Mammoth, and British citizen journalist Elliot Higgins, best known for identifying the weapons seen in uploaded videos from the Syrian Civil War. It was then reported on by the BBC.

Because who would have thought that planning something this ridiculous on a public message board could have gone awry! Weird!

Of course, some were pretty sure that it definitely still worked, because even if they got found out, they totally pointed out… something.

The thing with these message boards — which I maintain are a thousand times more toxic than any alt-right spokesperson could ever dream of being — is that those who use them become so deeply enmeshed in their own views that they actually do legitimately believe they are making sense, and that this is a thing they can “trick” the left into being on board with. They are essentially brainwashed.

Part of their agenda as of late has been to try to drive a wedge between white women and people of color. Not because they particularly like women — they don’t, and many appear to be very upset about the 19th Amendment — but because feel that this is the easiest way to split the Left, and because they have recently decided that in order to achieve their aims, they need white women to join them, for breeding purposes only.

On the bright side, they make themselves remarkably easy to track. Not only can we see what they are plotting on 4chan, but we can look through Twitter and see what accounts posted these memes, and keep track of them that way as well. Whoops!

Over on another thread, several /pol/ denizens were also whining about how they have been infiltrated by outsiders and “normies” posting threads and “making it difficult for /pol/ users who could potentially benefit from knowing certain information, and potentially coherently gather and discuss certain things, from doing so.”

Which I think means they definitely want us to go over there and start posting constantly about flower arranging, right?

The First Amendment gives everyone the right to speak freely. But, you know, it’s not an obligation to do so.

They kind of did the same thing with Arseface…in the comics he attempts suicide for a dumb teenage boy reason (emulating Kurt Cobain) on the show it’s because a girl he has a crush on puts him in an impossible situation.

President Donald Trump’s efforts to boost fossil fuel extraction face a courtroom hurdle of his own making.

His March 28 executive order “promoting energy independence and economic growth” rescinded the Obama administration’s calculation of the “social cost of carbon” — a metric that had been central to the process of crafting and justifying government rules addressing human-driven climate change.

All government regulations are subject to cost/benefit analysis. The “social cost of carbon” was developed in large part to compare long-term costs from coastal flooding and other impacts of emissions of climate-warming carbon dioxide with upfront costs to the economy from curbing the burning of fossil fuels, the main source of such emissions.

  • JMP

Isn’t this the same shit that the GamerGate terrorist group tried with that stupid “NotYourShielf” fiasco? Everything the alt-right idiots do seems to be a continuation of the same failed tactics of that idiotic hate group; of course there’s a huge overlap with them.

  • Vagenda of Rebel Scum

I’m still not quite getting why AntiFa is such a perjurative label. Doesn’t that describe the Lincoln Brigade during the Spanish Civil War? The entire Allied Forces during WWII? The Free French? The Jewish Resistance in the Warsaw Ghetto?

    • Nockular cavity

Well, you know how the US Govt. labelled the Abe Lincoln Brigade members when they came back, don’t you? “Prematurely Anti-Fascist.” And refused to listen to them when they told about German military tactics, weapons, etc.

      • Vagenda of Rebel Scum

And the Stalinists hated them and tried to do away with them every opportunity they got.

        • Nockular cavity

Yup. Spain was getting help from the Soviets (and no one else) at the absolute worst possible time to get help from the Soviets. Every time a Soviet General started to get good at fighting the fascists, he’d be called back to Moscow and shot, or sent off to the Gulag.

          • Vagenda of Rebel Scum

Stalin didn’t like anyone that might possibly outshine him. Kind of like our dimestore Mussolini.

        • SecludedCompound

This is precisely the reason your anarcho-synidcalist antifascists hate Stalinist types almost as much as Nazis.

    • JMP

I just wonder why people in it go with the “anftifa” abbreviation – “Anti-fascist” makes it clear what people stand for, plus being cutting down everything to shortened fake words is just stupid.

      • janecita

I agree, I find that term kind of ridiculous.

      • Vagenda of Rebel Scum

We live in a world of short attention spans. Now The Lincoln Brigade was catchy. So was The Lafayette Escadrille during WWI. Something like that. Heroic.

      • YoBunnyBunny

They think it sounds scarier? Like some leftist terror cell probably.

        • JMP

That makes sense for the fascists; but I think it’s stupid for the actual anti-fascist protesters to use that stupid non-word label.

I blame Californians; people here seem unwilling to say words over two syllables, so you get people making themselves sound stupid by doing things like referring to the state as “cally” and the Silicon Valley trying to replace “application” and “program” with the stupid “app”.

          • Three Finger Salute

Apple was particularly verbose in the 68k/PPC era. Or just redundant. Applications or programs on Pre-OSX systems actually were called “application programs.”

My racist friend from elementary school posted some dumb shit about a pig farmer who was responding to harassment by Muslims by holding a BBQ during Eid. It was so easy to disprove with a quick search, and I chewed her out for it online. I keep reading about these right-wing idiots that make up stupid crap and try to pin it on the left-wing. They think it will work because are living in a wingnut bubble and it somehow all this derp makes sense to them.

Now, I will admit I have bubble-ified myself a bit since the election, or maybe slightly before, because I was sick of MSM’s “both sides,” and “give Trump a chance crap,” and have ensconced myself in the warm glow of Wonkette.

However, I do venture outside my bubble now and then, and I have never seen anything about left-wing types making up shit, and trying to pin it on the right. So, I wonder, is that happening too? What would that even look like?

    • AnnieGetYerFun

I’ve seen some hysterical stuff posted on some of the more lefty sites that is usually easily proved false. It’s often like “With a Single Stroke of the Pen, Trump Nullifies Constitution – We Will All Die in Camps.” But the left doesn’t tend to steal photos as often from the internet based on a quick Google search.

      • NotReallyHere

Yes, I know of the hysterical stuff of which you speak, and I’ve started to avoid DailyKos because they have too much of that. I haven’t seen anything that seems totally invented, though. I’m tempted to conclude that the left is smarter, but that’s probably not quite true.

        • AnnieGetYerFun

DailyKos, yes, that’s another one. I don’t often read the articles anymore, so if they are making things up, I wouldn’t know about it. But probably not – mostly because you do have enough lefties who HATE being lied to.

  • Michael Smith

Hmm.. persons and color and white women? I mean, I guess I can see some potential there to exploit some tension. You could create a fake profile where you are a black woman, and then go onto any article about a feminist issue and insist that white women can’t be real feminists. But I don’t think it would be that effective. Like those images above, the absurdity would be transparent, and liberals aren’t as hive minded as conservatives (Which is something they always overlook), so I’d probably have people telling me where to go pretty quickly.

If I really wanted to fracture the left, I’d poke at the Bernie-Hillary dichotomy. Try to start a fight between the two by pretending to be a Berniecrat and saying that Hillary voters have no principles and just do whatever the party says. Or pretend to be a Hillary supporter and say that Berniecrats are misogynistic and self-righteous. This is, of course, something they already do and its occasionally effective.

I’m not sure how to play this game with them, though. I mean you could play the “Trump isn’t conservative enough” card, but I don’t want to rile up the kind of people who would agree with that.

    • Vagenda of Rebel Scum

You mean at least one article a day on Daily Kos? Come to think of it we’re pretty good at creating havoc amongst ourselves.

    • YoBunnyBunny

Right, in order to make the POC versus white women false-flag thing convincing, they’d have to bring a very sophisticated argument about race and gender inter-sectionality to a feminist forum. But somehow I wouldn’t count on any alt-right 4chan goober being smart enough to even imitate that kind of higher-order thingking.

      • I just cant see them being able to resist posting something like women are bitches

    • They already to the bernie hillary thing

    • Three Finger Salute

The liberals are fragmented enough as it is. We don’t even need fakers; we have plenty of authentic ones. There’s the “disability pride” movement (which I consider a bunch of disease-mongering kooks) who have sided with GOP anti-choicers to draft bills that specifically disallow abortion in cases of Down syndrome and other prenatally-diagnosed defects. Thus putting a wedge into the feminist pro-choice movement and parroting the “Margaret Sanger was a Nazi eugenicist” bullshit meme.

There’s some bizarre fringe group as a subset of that movement, of people diagnosed with bodily identity integrity disorder (basically, a self-amputation fetish) who’ve pissed off trans people by declaring themselves “trans-abled” because they really, really want to cut off healthy limbs and don’t see it as a “disorder” but a “body modification” no different from tattoos, piercings, cosmetic procedures… or gender reassignment surgery. The New York Compost latched onto this (and apparently there’s a cable TV documentary — Vice Media maybe?); it went viral, of course, and inevitably it only led to more hatred and discrediting of legitimate trans people from trolls: “you sick freak, you want to lob off a healthy dick just like these whack jobs!”

There are black (mostly of various Protestant denominations) and Hispanic (mostly Catholic) Christians who aren’t too happy with the advance of LGBT rights. There certainly are Muslims who aren’t too fond of it either. Pulse unfortunately led at least some LGBT people to believe that Trump was going to “protect them,” and ended up voting for him instead of Hillary.

The ‘channers have no life. Their “campaigns” are redundant. There’s enough splintering and infighting among the various bickering “identity” tribes as it is, that it actually doesn’t even make sense to add any more.

        “America Firsters”, in fact.

        • WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot

“American Fisters” more likely. You know how those Nazis like their disciplin.

      • StarBangledSpammer

True. They secured their permit, I’m sure.

      Illinois Nazis most of all.

      • Tokays_don’t_blink

One of the greatest moments in film. And what makes it even funnier is that the Illinois Nazis were a total sausage party. Some things never change, eh?

    • CeeQ

Peaceful people! Many of them were fine & good people! Not all were Nazis!

Their presence is not as frightening as the discontent which creates their opportunity.” – James Baldwin in Notes of a Native Son, 1955, writing about the handful of “professional revolutionists acting out of the most cynical motives” who joined protests in New York over the assassination of Patrice Lumumba – and about the phobic white reaction to their presence

Oh Maru! What would I do without you?

      • Thiazin Red

I ask my cat at least once a day why can’t you be more like Maru?

I bet Maru doesn’t break every single god damned wine glass in the entire apartment.

        • BadKitty904

But I bet he’d do it adorably if he did.

        • Perkniticky

Damn – I really need a cat to blame my wine glass breakage on.

        • David Hollenshead

Because your cat is a cat, so he or she has to break things, for the fun of annoying you.

          • Permit-holder Ron

Aristotle: ‘They who have drunk beer — fall on their back — for they who get drunk on other intoxicating liquors fall on all parts of their body — it is only those who get drunk on beer who fall on their backs and lie with their faces upwards.’
I prefer Plato: ‘He was a wise man who invented beer.’

  • Nasty Girl Brianna

Jesus, these people are so fucking stupid that they can’t even organize a PROPER false flag operation.

  • whitroth

Now *that*, I resent. No one has ever accused me of being “normal”….

(Been saying for over 20 years that I need to copy the button I saw at a con, “Weird and proud”.)

    • MizzMazz

Yeah, that whole ‘normie’ thing has me confused. If being against racism, classiism, sexism, and being for living wages and decent healthcare for all makes me normal, well, I just don’t see it. I’ve been called weird and freak for the last 40 years, and I own it now. Trying to understand this shit is headache inducing.

      • Mehmeisterjr

If the enemy is the the normies, then are the abnormies? And if they are the abnormies, why don’t they seem to have any abs?

        • MizzMazz

I have abs. I love my abs so much I protect them with a nice layer of fat ;)

        • whitroth

For that matter, what do they have against Abby?

          • David Hollenshead

Do you mean, Abby Normal ???

          • whitroth

            The one and only….

      • SecludedCompound

Remember, almost literally none of the people on 4chan, other than Nazi recruiters and Russian bot farmers, were born earlier than about 1995. They literally think the status quo of the world is Obama-era nicety-nice liberalism. It started off with the being transgressive against that, and then they started believing their own memes. Well, and Russian ones too.

    • Three Finger Salute

I see this a lot nowadays and I figure it must be a pretty lucky and small subset of society in outlier communities like Portlandia and… um, Canadians. (Or just “the Internet.”) I wish I was normal. If “normal” means boring, dull, nondescript, mediocre, adequate, blasé, and therefore not a human thesaurus, then so be it. I don’t want to stick out like a sore thumb. I’ve always been a target for one reason or another, which is how I basically ended up becoming a recluse. (And damn if I’m not at least enough of a partial weeaboo to know that the Japanese word is hikikomori.)

I used to sit on the cafeteria floor to eat lunch because nobody made room for me at the tables. The only group of outcasts who ever kind of took me under their wing were the Juggalos/Juggalettes, but even they didn’t end up becoming my friends because, well, they were never in school often enough to hang out with (and were usually being arrested for one thing or another). But they did find it a real hoot when I VHS-taped an interview on Billo with ICP.

The principal was a former cheerleader married to the district superintendent who was a football coach. Any chance they could get to look the other way when their “tribes” picked on the geeks, they would. So much so that the front office actually stopped publishing the honor roll because it unintentionally served as doxing of an “enemies list.”

I used to wear glasses until we couldn’t afford to replace any more pairs, because I’d get “bumped into” in the hallway and they’d get stepped on “by accident.” I ended up getting my equivalency and ultimately my BA from state U after a two-year stint at community college. All on the Internet. I didn’t even bother going to graduation, because it wasn’t something I was proud of in the first place. It was just a reinforcement of how bookish I’d always been.

I don’t want to be weird. Or a “geek.” Apparently stupid is back in popularity, like a bad leisure suit that gets repurposed as “retro chic.” Almost a fifth of the population voted in favor of it. Kim Kardashian is the wealthiest woman in the world, while university professors are on welfare. Nerd isn’t the word anymore; it makes for fresh accusations of cosmopolitan-biased global elitism. (Or maybe not, because that has too many syllables.) The nerds only had a temporary “revenge.” Fox and the jocks with their heads full of rocks won. The science geeks designed the bomb, but then they got disposed of so the jocks could muscle up and set shit on fire. The nerds invented the Internet and Trump took control of it. Need I say more?

I’m not proud of being a geek. Maybe some are. I wish I was a ditz. Because when first they came for the intellectuals, there was nobody to speak out for me.

      • Regret

Shit, son. It sounds like your school experience was even worse than mine.
I just don’t understand why society institutionalized abuse and calls it educational. There are only 3 lessons learned in school:
        – How to be abused
        – How to abuse others
        – How to accept that abuse is normal

I say burn it all down.

  • Three Finger Salute

Why do they need to make up kapos? There’s plenty of them in the GOP as it is!

  • Gees guys. Wanna find a nice lady? Try not being assholes. Wanna not get called nazi? Stop being nazis. How hard is that?

    • amrak63

For them? More difficult than learning calculus in Chinese.

    • whitroth

From Trumpolini on down, they can’t seem to wrap their minds around the aphorism that the first step in getting out of the hole you dug and are standing is to STOP DIGGING.

And at the rate they’re going, the Chinese are going to tell them to go back into the hole….

    • SeeTrain65

      But that requires minimal effort!

  • Crystalclear12

They don’t seem to understand the problem is that they thought this was a good idea in the first place.

    • David Hollenshead

It seems that most of the ideas white supremacists come up with are bad ideas.

    • SecludedCompound

Never forget, one of the original, unifying moments for the Alt-Right as a street thing was when Nathan Damigo, Nazi leader and felon, punched a Berkeley girl in the face.

They loved it and crowed about it as their ultimate victory for about a month and a half.

I have no doubt that there are horrible and abusive men on the left…at least a few. However, only Nazis and white supremacists actually abuse women as a matter of policy.

    • David Hollenshead

Yup, as there are very few female Nazis, so they often seduce underage women with drugs to have a gang bang. One of the reasons for Nazis choosing to defect is this disgusting abuse of teenagers….

  • Wait a minute.

People who believe whatever crazy shit the GOP cooks up that particular day are NONCONFORMISTS???

They don’t conform to proper use of the English language, I’ll give them that.
I had to read that last sentence a few times, because I believe the way it’s written what they’re actually saying is that hipster/snowflake = nonconformist.
Good googly boogly the dumb hurts my brain.

Yeah, this is their whole thing, that they’re the “new counterculture” or the “new punk rock” for believing…exactly what everyone’s racist fuckstick uncle does, but with more antisemitism and swastikas.

Quelle surprise! Misogynists seem to enjoy creating images of beaten up women.

      • Cat Cafe for the Resignation

It’s weird, isn’t it, how somewhere in their creepy psyches they actually understand “misogyny bad,” so they eagerly project it on to their perceived enemies, yet they are still virulent misogynists (which is why it’s all they have to project).

These guys are unbelievable. They want the attention and martyrdom of getting themselves punched without, you know, actually going out and getting themselves punched. So they hide behind stock photos of women with black eyes.

Maybe next they could make a meme about a woman getting hit deliberately by a car.

They’re working hard at deepening the public enemy persona, or I suppose unpersona, of anyone who isn’t a fucking fascist shitbird. Too bad they’re ‘Hogan’s Heroes’ Nazis.

They must not be allowed to grab their narrative, however. Stay alert to their bullshit. They’re fascists, they stop at nothing.

    • Cat Cafe for the Resignation

Worse, they’re operating on lizard-brain only, so they’re really dangerous. Luckily, they’re ineffective, swampy, losers and failures, so there’s that to cling to.

These are the same “minds” behind the PUMA movement in 2008. “Hey, you libtards are all upset because Hillary didn’t get the Democratic nomination? Look at the Republican ticket – they got a chick on it! That’s what you care about, right? So party unity, my ass! Vote for the Sarah Palin ticket because chicks, man.”

Then they all high-fived each other (and not in a gay way, either, so stop saying that) and retired to a well-deserved snack of Chee-tohs and Red Bull.

  • Relativicus

Yes, every stupid thing one of you yo-yos fails at is really a false flag.

Where these putzes cheat themselves is in the fact they don’t really have much in the way of successes, so in this ideological version of socializing losses and privatizing profits, they’re only enjoying half the equation. Plus, they’re basically saying they don’t actually do anything.

School is shortened, discipline relaxed, philosophies, histories, languages dropped, English and spelling gradually gradually neglected, finally almost completely ignored. Life is immediate, the job counts, pleasure lies all about after work. Why learn anything save pressing buttons, pulling switches, fitting nuts and bolts?

Cram them full of non-combustible data, chock them so damned full of ‘facts’ they feel stuffed, but absolutely ‘brilliant’ with information. Then they’ll feel they’re thinking, they’ll get a sense of motion without moving.

I know some of the dumb-left, the part that overlaps in the Ven diagram with the dumb-right on some issues. Like anti-vaccers. It’s just that they are usually getting shut down by their friends and in-group.

  • sincarne

It’s astounding to me that these idiots can’t see they’re the only ones who are doing this “infiltrate and false flag” nonsense. They do it, it doesn’t work, they claim someone else *actually* did it to them. Over and over again. They had the no-shave thing, the bikini bridge thing, the menstruate all over the place thing, the end Father’s Day thing, the gamergate not your shield thing…none of them worked. Everybody knew it was them. I can’t even form a coherent thought I’M SO ANNOYED.

Blah blah libtard false flag ad infinitum. Nope, buddy. The only stupid disinfo campaigns are run on your nasty little message boards.

Watching video of these hate marchers, it is easy to discern A TOTAL LACK OF WOMEN. So the idea that women are getting punched for being Nazis doesn’t work.

It is not an evil plot, you idiots, the right is just mocking you, and you are clearly just too dumb to get the point.
Antifa would call anybody they disagree with a fascist or a NAZI without having a f@#$ing clue what those words mean. In their infinite righteousness, they also consider violence against anybody they don’t like justified. ‘Bash a fash’ and ‘punch a nazi’ was not invented by the enemies of antifa.
The meme is just exposing the indiscriminate bigotry and violence of the antifa scum.
….but I do not expect you to get it…….

    • Sheena

Chans are constantly trying to ‘create a divide’ within groups they dislike, it’s sometimes their entire routine. You can try and label it “just trolling” but for many of them, these are actual operations to undermine. They say in their own posts.

It’s no wonder they are always see ‘false flags’ everywhere, it’s just projection.

    • arekexcelsior

But they openly admitted to it being a strategy, Zork. So which is it? A lie or disingenuous irony? Might want to check your own movement’s dishonesty and their willingness to, say, retweet fake statistics, or lie about Trotsky inventing the word racism.

Don’t worry, though; when we mock y’all snowflakes and say you live in trailers, you show off that you’re thin-skinned by saying that it’s anti-white sentiment. So you’re a hypocrite over and over again.

And sure, some antifa will go too far in calling some people who aren’t Nazis Nazis… just like a lot of 4channers will say that people who despise Communism are Communists. Funny how you only seem to care about one kind of hyperbole. It’s almost like you’re not honest!

      • Who are ‘they’ and who am I?
You cannot define the first and have no clue about the second.
I have no sympathy for either side of these disgusting conflicts, but talking about honesty, the side that hides its face, the one that clearly do not have the courage to take responsibility for their action should, maybe, refrain from talking about it.
For the longest time, the Ku Klux Klan was the military arm of the democratic party of the USA. It is now being replaced by antifa.
The resemblance is striking. Only the color of the uniform was changed to the color of the actual fascists of history.
….but what do I know? I am full of phobias:

      • Jany

“Charlottesville was right out of the Nazi playbook. In the 1920s, the Nazi Party was just one political party among many in a democratic system, running for seats in Germany’s Parliament. For most of that time, it was a small, marginal group. In 1933, riding a wave of popular support, it seized power and set up a dictatorship. The rest is well-known.

It was in 1927, while still on the political fringes, that the Nazi Party scheduled a rally in a decidedly hostile location – the Berlin district of Wedding. Wedding was so left-of-center that the neighborhood had the nickname “Red Wedding,” red being the color of the Communist Party. The Nazis often held rallies right where their enemies lived, to provoke them…..
