Steve Curtis is the former chairman of the Colorado Republican Party and currently a right-wing talk radio host. As such, he is very, very concerned about all the voter fraud that Democrats do all the time. He even once dedicated a whole 45 minute show to “Voter Fraud and Other Democratic Misbehaviors.”

During that show, Curtis stated that “virtually every case of voter fraud I can remember in my lifetime was committed by Democrats.”

Thus, when he decided to commit his very own act of voter fraud — sending in a ballot on behalf of his ex-wife — he probably thought it didn’t count as, like, actual voter fraud. Perhaps he just thought he was being extra patriotic? Perhaps he was so convinced that there was rampant voter impersonation going on that no one would have a problem with him doing a little of it himself?

His ex-wife, however, doesn’t exactly see things that way and is pretty pissed off. Kelly Curtis divorced Steve Curtis after being married to him for only nine months. When asked why their marriage only lasted that long, Curtis told reporters “I didn’t feel it was an equal partnership, I’ll just leave it at that.” Which is basically girl code for “He was terrible and I had to GTFO.”

The forgery was discovered when Kelly Curtis, who had just moved to South Carolina, called the Weld County Elections office to find out how to vote there despite still being registered in Colorado. To her surprise, she was told that she had already voted by mail. In Colorado. And that the ballot was sent from Steve Curtis’s house.

“It was demeaning and presumptuous, and I had no idea what would go on in someone’s mind to cast my ballot for me illegally, actually to go to all the trouble to forge my ballot,” Kelly Curtis told reporters at Denver’s Fox31.

Steve Curtis himself has refused to answer media questions about the forgery, and his defense attorney even attempted to get the judge to issue a gag order to prevent prosecutors from talking to the media about it. Which, clearly, did not work.

He now faces up to 18 months in prison for the voter fraud, and up to three years for forging his ex-wife’s signature, if he’s found guilty.

On the bright side, however — Curtis can probably sleep easier at night, on his cot in prison, knowing that we actually do have processes in place to combat the kind of voter impersonation that Republicans like him pretend to believe only Voter ID can solve. That is nice for him!

“Part and parcel of living in a great global city is you’ve got to be prepared for these things, you’ve got to be vigilant, you’ve got to support the police doing an incredibly hard job,” Khan said at the time.

Junior’s version, complete with Palinesque punctuation:

You have to be kidding me?!: Terror attacks are part of living in big city, says London Mayor Sadiq Khan

You guys are forgetting about those 3 million ill-eagle Californians that voted, though. I’m STILL FUCKING READING ABOUT THEM in comment sections all over the web. It’s like, facts and the actual perpetrators of voter fraud don’t mean much to the brainwashed Trumptards.

    • CatCafe #ShePurrsisted

Well, they actually want to pretend California doesn’t exist, while happily watching the movies, TV, and internet content we create–ALL OF IT– going to the amusement parks we design, using the goods that come through our ports, using the websites and iPhones we invented, eating the food we grow, and wearing the clothes we sew, and most of all, enjoying the benefits provided by our bountiful tax dollars.

    • Bub the Hoohah! loving Zombie

If I were a Democrat, especially one who worked for the Clinton campaign, I would resent the hell out of being considered stupid enough to conspire to commit MILLIONS of felonies in the form of acts of in-person voter fraud in states where it would not materially effect the outcome of the election…

    • Creepoman

This is my one beef about mail-in voting, and one that I think could really hurt female candidates. It’s really not a secret ballot anymore, and I think there is a real probability that some votes are coerced. I’m sure it cost Hillary plenty of votes from “quiet” spouses who may have voted for Hillz in a booth, but went along with their loud-mouthed Trump-loving husband in the living room to keep the peace. I know my wife and I filled out ours together and it would have been “too the moon!” if she would have wanted to vote for Trump.

      • NotReallyHere

I have this concern also, but I am comforted by the fact that mail in ballots make it easier for more people to vote. There is no perfect solution, but mail in ballots at least don’t suffer from out-right discrimination that happens at polling places because some poll workers think voters don’t “look American,” or just not having enough polling places in certain areas to try to limit the vote count.

  • Shibusa

    Lock him up.

A relative nobody who was a former Russian hawk suddenly lands a big time role with Drumpf. He also wants to investigate the leaks to the media, not the Drumpf/Russia collusion

Oh, and Nunes now has a better idea of what Comey told Grassley and Feinstein and why they seemed stunned after their meeting with Comey. Nunes knows it’s real and he knows it’s serious and he knows why Comey didn’t want to disclose the information directly to him, and he knows Monday is going to be a very big day.

    • FukuiSanYesOta

That doesn’t stop it being fraud.

      • Jim Johnson

yes, it is fraudulent. But it is more of a petty dick move against his ex-wife than it is an attempt to sway the election outcome. I am only questioning his motive. Good to see him convicted in any case.

        • He wasn’t convicted? Not yet anyway

It is exactly the behavior that voter ID and registration restrictions won’t stop–a one shot deal, uncoordinated with anyone else and not done to influence the election. But as you said it is still fraud.

Just shows that the wide ranging, heavy handed and not at all racist GOP plans to impede voters doesn’t work.

    • No, that is “I own her and her vote so it is going for the one I want”
      And that probably includes himself.
      It is flat out frauding.

    • UncleTravelingMatt

Whatever his motive, if the allegations are true it is still “actual election fraud.”

    • Jennifer R

Voting for someone else is actual election fraud regardless of the motive.

      • Jim Johnson

Yes, this is actual election fraud. He should be punished. But, this guy is no election fraud mastermind that threatens our sacred voting process. He was trying to “trump” his wife and vote for her. Again, “I’m not defending the creep.”

        • The article does not call him a mastermind, though? but instead mentions that the boy who cried wolf is eating the sheep himself.

          • Jim Johnson

Correct. I said “this guy is no… mastermind”. He seems like more than a common Republican vote fraudster. He is a spiteful, ex-wife-bullying, vote fraudster. And a dick. And a hypocrite.

          • FlownΩver

But you repeat yourself… coulda stopped with “Republican.”

“Yer honor, I was being a petty, spiteful, ex-husband dick when I drove my ex-wife’s car through the wall of the bank and stole all the munneez, not a bank robber!”

      • Jim Johnson

You miss my point entirely. I never said he did not commit voter fraud. And, I am not defending him. He should be found guilty of his crime — no doubt. My point was that his motivation was based on petty spite and bullying against his ex-wife and not based on some scheme to affect the election outcome. Of course, this does not justify his crime. It is just a comment on the nature of his intentions dick move.

        • FlownΩver

        • That is the thing. They HATE being called names zomg the worst ever! And potty language, grab the couch! And you don’t agree with me so you’re just a moocher/taker/libtard!!! add to it that 90% of the time you can bait them with a small dick joke.
But we’re the fragile ones? erm.

    • JustDon’tSayMicrowave

IK,R? And I was just trying to post my usual Friendly Invitation to fugoff, too!

      A troll, where? How’d I miss them?

And so much for your life and career because you thought after a few brewski’s it would be fun to pull alittle prank that no one would ever notice because :” Hey, it’s just one vote and she’s like a total bitch. This will be revenge for not getting a pre-nup..”

And then you wake up to an even bigger cluster fuck.”

  • Serai 1

    That is one cowardly troll.

He just doesn’t understand that in a open democratic society these things happen and as much as we want to prevent them, just like traffic accidents, they will take place and probably will leave us with less people being killed.

Yikes. Tone deaf doesn’t even come close. My condolences to the people of London and something else for the OT. (OT=original tweeter)

    Memo to Kris Kobach:

Sorry, dude, you may have been right. Now if you’d just quit doing your onesies and twosies, and instead round up and prosecute the apparent multitude of vote-fraudster Republicans, you’d start to be worth your state salary.

  • Paperless Tiger

Great idea there, Steve, stealing the ballot from your ex. No hard feelings.

    • Gregory Brown

      He seems nice!

  • A Bashful Nobody

I can see why he’s divorced.

  • norcalOG

The least he could do is change his name to Esteban. That would give Republicans a quick out in explaining his behavior.

    • Once&futureFred

      Or Jefferson

“Waah, what happened to my white privilege?”

A woman reminded him that it was stuff and nonsense.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

    • Rickyphoo

I had the exact same reaction!

  • SullivanSt

On the bright side, however — Curtis can probably sleep easier at night, on his cot in prison, knowing that we actually do have processes in place to combat the kind of voter impersonation that Republicans like him pretend to believe only Voter ID can solve.

(and that people with actual brains are aware would not be prevented by Voter ID)

  • Scooby

    One down 2,999,999 to go!

  • Libby liberal

Adding this to my favorite stories catalog. Right up there with hunters being shot by animals and when uber conservative republican dudes get caught with male prostitutes.

  • guppy06

Any chance the defense attorney can be found in contempt for wearing a bowtie?

  • Panika MCD

you mean it still counts as Voter Fraud when you’re registered as a Republican PATRIOT?!?!?! what if he’s a sovereign citizen? WHAT IF HE DECIDES THAT HE’S A WOMAN RIGHT THIS MINUTES?!! (since trans people generally know between the ages of 2 and 4, but often cannot express their gender identity until later in life–it’s so completely possible because all the OUR WIVES AND DAUGHTERS people say it is.)

  • Bebecca

I just saw this story on Chris Hayes. This horrible human being actually said every instance of voter fraud is caused by a democrat and they are just really flawed people (my interpretation). I really want him to go to prison.

    • mailman27

Jail time would give him an opportunity to reflect on his misdeeds. Or so I’ve been told.

  • Lefty Wright

So he’s got a bad memory. Seems to be a lot of that going around in Republican circles now.

  • canes_pugnaces

    Lock him up.

  • Red Bellied Black Shake

So….this means Curtis is a Democrat?

Thank goodness that has been cleared up.

Good for you Kelly Curtis, for everything but marrying this plastic bag of lies.

  • Mack N. Nietzsche

I have no defense. While here in Colorado we have a lot of decent Republicans who are still sane we do have our fair share of idjits and insane. Less-than-instant Karma is going to get him.

  • Zyxomma

Lock him up. Lock them ALL up.

  • hvdv

    Such upstanding characters.

  • SallysRock

And his anti-Democrat rant was despicable. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.
