6 billion isn’t enough for a measly single aircraft carrier. Seriously.

I guess Trump voters are getting the stupid they deserve and what the rest of us feared.

Stealth ain’t cheap. But then again so aren’t defense contractors aka the 5 diamond whores of the gubbiment contractor escort agency.

    • Duke

That’s like enough for the planes on the carrier.

Then there are all the support ships in the Aircraft Carrier Battle Group!

It’s gotta be $20 billion in hardware and billions per year to keep it in action. We have ten. The rest of the world has eight. Four are owned by NATO allies (not counting the new, fancy one Britain has quite commissioned, yet.) Thailand has no planes for their. (seriously) so China, Russia and India each have one and those aren’t actually functional.

But we need 12 because that’ll give us all woodies!

    • coozledad

over and over and over again.

It’s those mind guerillas putting their soul power to the karmic wheel, dude. And you know that for sure.

    • Amy!

      Not really true, either.

Each new episode has a new guest star. This week, featuring Mike Flynn! This week, featuring JB Sessions! This week, an ensemble cast including Paul Manafort! Carter Page! with special guest appearance from an Unnamed Foreign Ambassador!

It’s not the same thing over and over. It’s the same plot over and over, with a different cast. But “The Story of Grift” has been the longest running (and most profitable) show in the history of politics.

      • Angela Ruzzo

Whereas the Republican stories were the same characters with a different plot twist every time. Obama was born in Kenya! He was a citizen of Indonesia! He was a British citizen! His long-form birth certificate was forged! Same with Benghazi and the Clinton emails.

“The same thing over and over and over” does not depend on whether the characters remain the same or whether new plot twists develop. I think you are over analyzing.

  • DAT

It will be wonderfully ironic if gutting the stance on Ukraine in GOP platform ends up being the loose thread that brings everything down since a party platform is the most ignored document produced during an election (too bad no one informed the manipulators about the insignificance:).

      DRAIN THAT SWAMP!

[Jan. 29] President Donald Trump acted Saturday to fulfill a key portion of his pledge to “drain the swamp” in Washington, banning administration officials from ever lobbying the U.S. on behalf of a foreign government and imposing a separate five-year ban on other lobbying.

“Most of the people standing behind me will not be able to go to work,” Trump joked, referring to an array of White House officials who lined up behind him as he sat at his Oval Office desk. http://www.cnbc.com/2017/01/29/trump-imposes-lifetime-ban-on-some-lobbying-five-years-for-others.html

I read, for realz, that sales of the Ivanka line were up over 300%. I thought the Ivanka line was already a knockoff of tasteful. So, a knockoff, of a knockoff, is that called a ripoff, or a doomcough (sic).

    • Well, some people will buy anything if it’s marked “Clearance” and “75% off!”

  • SweetDeeKat

The Chinese Ivanka trademark-squatting is great. I look forward to the Ivanka-branded incontinence pads.

Don’t. They will cause contact dermatitis as soon as they’re wet.

Last night I dreamt I was watching the news, and reports were coming in that Vladimir Putin, in a fit of rage after the Russian national hockey team lost a match, had beaten one of the players with a crowbar.

At least I think it was a dream. It’s hard to tell these days.

Last night I dreamt Hillary and Bill were having a casual dinner with me and various people I didn’t seem to know at my in-the-kitchen dining table (which doesn’t exist), very friendly and nice and the Clintons even helped clear the table. I like my dream better.

If Congress cuts the HUD budget by the $6 billion OMB is requesting, so we can have more ships and fighter jets, will midnight basketball move from the housing projects to aircraft carrier decks?

  • YoBunnyBunny

Shamelessly stolen from commenter SMS45 on the HUD WaPo article:

“You’re living in poverty, your schools are no good, you have no jobs, 58% of your youth is unemployed — what the hell do you have to lose?”

Well, you didn’t have to wait long to find out.

    This.

I’m back from my camp/volunteer work trip. One of the few people on the trip who could get news told us about the Obama wire-tap lie, the Jeff Sessions/Russia connection, and that the GOP health neglect plan reinstates exclusion due to pre-existing conditions. So, no impeachment YET?! No Congressional investigation into the Russian connections?! Should I go back out into the woods? https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/4ce56a8b6d6c72bdd0ca421b74fc836e35e824e9784435deae72a8f31c13e6ca.jpg

    I’m Sad today.

There was just one Republican in the 2012 race I was willing to give serious consideration to. Just one. And that was Jon Huntsman. In the limited exposure he got he came across to me as intelligent, articulate, rational, having a wealth of experience, and good ethics. If he had been the Republican candidate I would have paid very careful attention (and probably voted Obama anyway), but he was worthy of consideration.

Of course those very qualities meant he lasted about as long as a fart in a windstorm in the primary, and his rival Mitt got the nomination by starting from nearly the same point but wholeheartedly abandoning principles and changing positions left and right to cater to the base.

I’m trying to withhold judgment, since I’m not inside his decision process, but can’t help but feel shocked and saddened that Jon Huntsman would accept any role in this administration.

For the administration, Trump once accused him of “giving the US away to China” (I paraphrase, too lazy to look up the quote.) I guess since the goal is now to give the US away to Russia, this choice makes a sort of twisted sense.

    • I didn’teven realize he was a Amb to China under Obama. Oh, and Trump insulted Hunstman on the twitter before! http://www.vox.com/world/2017/3/9/14862508/jon-huntsman-trump-russia-ambassador

      • Royal Ugly Dude

If Trump truly believes that Jon Huntsmann sold out US interests to China, then he will be perfect for what he has in mind for Russia.

    • Lamashtar

I’m growing impatient with the purity crowd. We need competent people in government fixing what the Putinistas are breaking, and keeping an eye on people like Tillerson.

  • My folks attended a “grassroots 101” type seminar hosted by our congressperson Paul Tonko. He made some great suggestions. Call in (with one issue at a time) or write personalized letters as opposed to a letter writing campaign. If you are writing something, try to include something personal to you, like if you are writing about the ACA and know someone who has benefitted. If you call or write congresspeople or senators who are “on your side,” it’s perfectly ok to say “thank you,” in the case of guys like Tonko they appreciate that as it tells them they are doing good by their constituents. Also, find out which committees your congressperson is on, and who those other members are in the committees. Call and/or write THOSE reps as well…you can tell them while you’re not in their district, that their rep is on the committee and that you’re paying attention, because the decisions that get made will ultimately affect you and your district. Tonko said the committee he sits on is (I think, forgive me I wasn’t there) like 8 repubs and 7 dems, so it’s near 50/50, so even though it’s highly partisan right now, it’s not impossible to get GOPers to break…we have to keep pushing and trying. Lastly, he said demonstrating and marching, going right to the Rep’s or Sen’s offices, it’s effective. Even though these GOP weirdos are moving on their full agenda, you can tell they are in fear right now, that’s why Ryan and Co kept their shitty AHCA bill a secret. If we keep it up, eventually they will have to listen to the majority of americans who did not vote to dismantle the federal government. Trump is trying to negotiate support to pass it, saying “it’s just phase one” to the public. We need to hammer congress and the senate and tell them, “PRESIDENT TRUMP IS A LIAR, WE DON’T BELIEVE A WORD HE SAYS.”

    • suziq

Very good advice! Yes, this is Phase One, the next phases will be even worse!

    • suziq

Sadly, I think I need a break too. Too much shit going on and I haven’t been doing anything productive!

    • Oh my god so adorable. Kneading just like bebe kittahs.

  • RugzYaBurnt

Yeah, but what does it *really* mean when the Trump White House orders “pizza”?

  • phoenix00

No I do not want those tigers when they’re irresistibly adorbs and innocent and huggable, I want them the moment they turn into murder factories and 300-lb-bench-pressers with 3-inch molars and 4-inch claws!
