The White House is working too hard to engage in lazy racist stereotypes.

The chief of staff and the press secretary for a man who starts work at 11 a.m. both took the opportunity to call Mexicans (or maybe Democrats) lazy yesterday, and because this is the Donald Trump administration, nobody got fired. John Kelly got the ball rolling with some thoughts on a possible deal to prevent the deportation of people who were brought to the US illegally as children, extolling a very generous offer Trump has made to legalize up to 1.8 million young people just as long as Democrats agree to screw over millions and millions of future legal immigrants forever. After a meeting with Mitch McConnell yesterday, Kelly explained to reporters,

There are 690,000 official DACA registrants and the President sent over what amounts to be two and a half times that number, to 1.8 million,

The difference between 690 and 1.8 million were the people that some would say were too afraid to sign up, others would say were too lazy to get off their asses, but they didn’t sign up[.]

Stupid lazy Mexicans, not even willing to get off their asses and sign up for DACA because they didn’t trust the US government with detailed information on who they are and where they live. It’s almost as if they didn’t think Barack Obama could protect them beyond his own term in office. Where would they get such an idea, with every Republican in the country insisting Obama’s executive action setting up DACA was unconstitutional, and many of them running on a platform of deporting every last undocumented immigrant? Later in the day, Kelly repeated his belief that most of those who might have qualified for DACA but who didn’t apply for protection (while Donald Trump was vowing to end it forever) probably just “needed to get off the couch.” Or stop sleeping under saguaro cactuses while wearing big sombreros. Why, why, why, he lamented, wouldn’t they get on their little burros and amble on down to apply for DACA, huh?

Later Tuesday, Sarah Huckabee Sanders was asked at the daily press briefing about Kelly’s comments, and she deftly turned the question around, because while she’s evil, she’s at least pretty adept at deflecting questions to push the Trump agenda:

Asked if it was “the position of the White House, that Dreamers are lazy,” Sanders cheerfully explained how hard Donald Trump is working to help Dreamers, but Democrats just don’t seem to appreciate him at all:

The position of the White House is that we want to fix a problem that was created by the previous administration. We have a system that is not lawful. We have a system that has a lot of legal loopholes, and that has a very large national security concern.

This, of course, is bullshit. The DACA program is well-supported by precedent, Donald Trump is the one who threw it all into chaos in hopes he could pressure Dems to cut legal immigration, and most of the “national security” concerns Trump has raised amount to insisting that since two or three legal immigrants out of hundreds of thousands became radicalized after arriving in the US, we must severely limit immigration of brown people in favor of people who have the important skill of being Norwegian. Besides, the real problem is those dumb lazy Democrats:

We’re focused on actually getting a solution and, frankly, I think if anybody’s lazy, it’s probably Democrats who aren’t showing up to work and aren’t actually getting to the table to make a deal on this.

Asked if Kelly’s comment about “lazy” Dreamers was offensive, Sanders added, ““I think that’s something you would have to decide for yourself.” Oh, well then, that’s easy to decide, Ms. Amoral Weasel. But maybe it’s not offensive — after all, “Dreamers” does imply they’re asleep all the time. Though that could just be soul-crushing depression.

Even though a federal court ruled that the Trump administration had to continue renewing DACA applications, Kelly also said that Trump would probably not extend DACA beyond the arbitrary March 5 deadline that he’d announced back in September, so if Democrats are too lazy to agree to an unacceptable “deal,” well, that’s just too bad for those lazy Dreamer kids. Besides, isn’t everyone a dreamer now?

In other news, hardworking Donald Trump said yesterday that he’d like to see the government be shut down if he doesn’t get the hardline immigration restrictions he wants.

We vaguely remember a time when overt racism like calling Mexicans lazy would get you fired, but thank God America is over that PC crap now. Besides, we’re now allowed to say “Merry Christmas,” for the first time in decades, so it’s a pretty good deal all in all.

The position of the White House is that we want to fix a problem that was created by the previous administration.

Here’s an idea: Don’t arbitrarily deport people who have lived here most of their lives and pose no threat, and there won’t be a problem.

The position of the White House is that we want to fix a problem that was created by the previous administration.

The previous administration had to act that way because the opposition party at the time were more interested in grandstanding and repealing the ACA 64 times rather than do actual work.

  • janecita

I know one of those “lazy” DACA kids. He didn’t register because he doesn’t trust the government. His family had less than stellar interactions with the Guatemalan government back in the day, and they were weary of politicians’ promises. It turned out that they were right.

    • eyelashviper

Most DACA kids fit this pattern, as their governments were not trustworthy and often dangerous to deal with.

That’s like PennDot…except they never fix the roads. True story…I was on the PA turnpike and it went to one lane. Barrels were along the road for 4 or 5 miles…at the end there was a porta-john. No workers, no equipment, no signage. Just miles of orange and white barrels and a lonely Porta john. The funniest part is as soon as you passed the porta John the hi way went back to 2 lanes.

Oh, I know. Ken Paxton is a tool.

          • Dept. of Space Tacos

in other – “oy vey texas news” – guess it’s finally affordable enough for sex offenders to be banned from working with children and teens (check out the blow job Paxton gets here AND I bet you a buck the bill mentioned way down at the bottom was defeated (because of price) by mostly Rs):

“AUSTIN (Nexstar) – Gov. Greg Abbott announced a plan aimed at aiding victims of sexual assault, human trafficking and students involved in inappropriate relationships with teachers.

“Nothing is more important than the safety and security of our communities,” Abbott said in a video statement.

“Working together, we will ensure a safe or future for the Lone Star State,” he said.

Part of Abbott’s plan would fund crime lab testing “to eliminate the backlog of sexual assault evidence kits,” by committing $14 million for 2020-2021. It would also create regional human trafficking squads for $22 million at the state level and increase penalties for traffickers.

“It’s about time,” Democratic gubernatorial candidate Lupe Valdez, former Dallas County Sheriff, said in a statement. “As someone who has been in law enforcement for decades, on the front lines of combating human trafficking, I welcome Gov. Abbott’s initial steps and recognition that something must be done. I sincerely hope all of Texas’ elected leadership takes this beyond campaign season press releases.”

Another part of his plan would allow the Texas Rangers to handle sexual assault claims against state employees at the Capitol, including legislators.

“Public officials have an obligation to take allegations against them with extreme seriousness,” Abbott’s plan indicated. “Doing so means providing a responsible and just process by which claims can be reviewed. No administrative arm of government has the relevant training and expertise to investigate sexual assault claims.”

A Texas Democratic Party spokesperson said reform should have come a long time ago.

“Regardless of political party, all people deserve the right to work in a place free of sexual harassment or misconduct. All Texans would benefit from resources and education to prevent harassment and abuse, and guidelines to report and address harassment when it does occur,” Texas Democratic Party spokesperson Tariq Thowfeek said. “No politician should ever be above the law or play by their own set of rules.”

A key component of Abbott’s proposal for the next legislative session included the implementation of a “do not hire” registry of adults “barred from school employment” due to unlawful interactions with a minor.

“This plan will continue our fight to crack down on predatory teacher-student relationships in Texas,” Abbott said.

Anyone on the registry would not be allowed to be employed as a “teacher, librarian, educational aide, administrator, counselor, school nurse/medical aide or any other position with direct, unsupervised contact with students.”

Lawmakers worked to crack down on teacher-student relationships in the past, with mild success. Legislation that took effect in September 2017 (Senate Bill 7) to hike penalties for districts, administrators and teachers who are not in compliance with reporting rules, but a bill that included a “do not hire” provision failed partially because of its million dollar price tag.

          • “Unpresidented” Linda

We need that bill to become law. Schools want to keep their problems hush hush, so they fire teachers with little fanfare, and they just go to another district and get a job. One of my son’s coaches did that. He had an affair with the student, he was fired, got a job in another town and kept on seeing the student. He needed to lose his cert. Period.

          • Dept. of Space Tacos

i don’t deny we need it – NOT AT ALL.
Just saying, it’s about time they got around to it – i don’t know the history of it, but I GUAR-AN-TEE it’s been defeated previously because of Rs and some stupid reason they had.

I’m from the Capitol of the Rust Belt (Pittsburgh) and of an age where I saw a thriving steel industry become brown fields in less than a generation.

Here is the ploy the steel manufactures used to move the industry, first to non labor friendly states (I’m lookung at you Indiana) then off shore.

1)Offer a contract you KNOW the union will reject under the guise of “international competition” (for get about the fact that the Germans always pay their workers well and make the 2nd finest steel in the world)

    2) the union rejects it, of course.

Moreover the real reason 2/3rd didn’t sign up is that they are criminals and didn’t really care about being legal. Being illegal has worked for them and “why mess up a good thing.”

I’m totally non-plussed why anyone has an ounce of sympathy for giving these folks citizenship. Before I would do this, how about a profile of who we’re talking about: a) educational achievement level; b) English speaking skils; c) propensity toward criminality (Other than being in the US illegally); d) affection for America; e) employment, including salaries by income quintile.

Tag a sympathic name on a gaggle of folks with no other information and you get popular support for giving them all a pass…. and their parents, too. It’s insane.
