Today is Holocaust Remembrance Day. Yesterday, however, Donald Trump decided to “celebrate” a day early by signing an executive order requiring the Secretary of Homeland Security to “make public a comprehensive list of criminal actions committed by aliens” — which is a thing the Nazis did back during the days of the Third Reich in a little magazine known as “The Criminal Jew!” Trump hopes this will convince people that all the immigrants are bad criminals whom we should hate, just as the Nazis… well, you know.

Screen Shot 2017-01-27 at 8.56.28 AM

The order also targets sanctuary cities! Like San Francisco, and Chicago — where I live.

“To better inform the public regarding the public safety threats associated with sanctuary jurisdictions, the Secretary shall utilize the Declined Detainer Outcome Report or its equivalent and, on a weekly basis, make public a comprehensive list of criminal actions committed by aliens and any jurisdiction that ignored or otherwise failed to honor any detainers with respect to such aliens.”

You know, for people who loooooove small government, you think they’d be happy to leave us alone and let us do what we want. We don’t want to deport our friends and neighbors just to make people who don’t even live here happy. The good news is that mayors of many “sanctuary cities” are already planning to fight the order in the courts, because it’s almost certainly unconstitutional.

The biggest problem with this, of course, is that it is essentially a quick and easy way to increase violence against immigrants, or anyone who looks like they might be an immigrant. Not only that, but painting an entire group of people as somehow more prone to violence and criminal behavior is a great way to make people see that group as violent, prone to criminal behavior, somehow less than human and also less deserving of justice and fairness than people not belonging to that group. Trump is essentially putting people’s lives in danger to “prove” an incredibly stupid point.

Immigrants do not commit crimes more than non-immigrants do. In fact, it’s just the opposite. Studies show that neighborhoods with large immigrant populations actually tend to have less crime, not more, and immigrants — whether they are here legally or not — commit fewer crimes than native citizens. Not entirely surprising, given that those who are undocumented are hardly running around trying to catch the attention of the police.

However, by making a list of “immigrant criminal activity” that stands alone without any reference to the crimes committed by native citizens, Trump can paint a skewed picture of the immigrant populace. Why would he want to do this? Because getting poor people in America to focus on how mad they are about immigrants — who, really, are not a problem of any kind — means they won’t be getting mad at rich people, or their huge tax cuts.

Convincing poor people their biggest problem is other poor people is the best way for the powerful to stay in power. Back in the day, factory owners would purposely sow discord and distrust between different immigrant populations in order to keep them from forming unions. And one of the first things European immigrants learned about becoming American was to hate African Americans. “These people are the real threat to you! Not me!” This was how the Chinese Exclusion Act passed in 1882 — getting other immigrant populations all worked up and worried about Chinese laborers being willing to work for less money was great politics. Why get angry at factory owners unwilling to pay decent wages when it was obvious the real problem was those other poor people and immigrants who got here after your family did?

Making people afraid of the criminality of other populations hurts those populations — that is clear. From making them more vulnerable to violence from people enraged by propaganda, to making it almost impossible for them to get a fair trial (this can even happen to white people too — see, Sacco and Vanzetti) by a jury of “peers.” But it also hurts people who buy into the propaganda, because that shit is poisonous. It poisons you, it makes you unable to think clearly, it makes you unable to see the truth of the situation — and perhaps most cruelly, it keeps you from advocating for things that might actually help your situation. (Hi, Kansas! What’s the matter with you?)

Hitler and the Nazis knew what they were doing when they published “The Criminal Jew,” when they blamed the burning of the Reichstag on communist Jews, and Donald Trump knows what he is doing now. He wants everyone to join him in declaring immigrants to be our worst problem, he wants to justify taking federal funds away from sanctuary cities, because he wants people paying attention to that and not to his plans to totally fuck our entire country.

In other news, Godwin’s Law is officially irrelevant.

Our last chance is to plant the idea of a Republican led coup in Trump’s mind, even though we know Republicans are gutter cowards who would calmly let him murder their associates.

          • Red Bird Resistance Engineer

          • BadKitty904

          • Red Bird Resistance Engineer

            I have no ideas.

          • BadKitty904

There’s the crux. You and I have talked about this issue before, I believe, and we both face the same issue. Neither of us want to sit by and allow the ongoing Rape of America by the GOP, yet neither of us are “pro” political activists. I know enuff to regularly pester my state and Federal reps, but beyond that…what? How do we effectively hinder and/or stop the Russo-Republican Reich? Especially since NO liberal organization has offered anything remotely like organized, national resistance, to date.

I don’t have the answer, but I do know that, if nobody else steps up to stop this, we – me, you, all of us – are going to have to. All I can think of is Jerry Garcia’s quote:

Somebody has to do something, and it’s just incredibly pathetic that it has to be us.UP THE RELUCTANT REBELS!!!

          • Red Bird Resistance Engineer

Well, really, my fear is that we are rapidly moving towards a point where political activism will not mean much. I don’t think these people are going to let go of power now that they have it just because we voted them out. It may be best for us to just find a way to survive in this environment.

          • BadKitty904

That’s my deepest, darkest fear. That “stronger” methods than political activism may be required to fix this – a thought so ugly I don’t like to dwell on it.

But this is not the forum for that discussion.

          • Red Bird Resistance Engineer

          • BadKitty904

That is precisely the question you and I touched on last week. Neither of us knew then and it looks like neither of us know yet.

But surely we’re not the only who see this threat? I know we’re only in Week One of this nightmare, but surely some sort of ACTUAL resistance will form?

All I can say now is keep your eyes open. I know the Trumpenreich will eventually FORCE an actual reaction – we’re not alone.

The following is from an article that appeared in Vanity Fair in 1990:

Donald Trump appears to take aspects of his German background seriously. John Walter works for the Trump Organization, and when he visits Donald in his office, Ivana told a friend, he clicks his heels and says, “Heil Hitler,” possibly as a family joke.

Last April, perhaps in a surge of Czech nationalism, Ivana Trump told her lawyer Michael Kennedy that from time to time her husband reads a book of Hitler’s collected speeches, My New Order, which he keeps in a cabinet by his bed. Kennedy now guards a copy of My New Order in a closet at his office, as if it were a grenade. Hitler’s speeches, from his earliest days up through the Phony War of 1939, reveal his extraordinary ability as a master propagandist.

“Did your cousin John give you the Hitler speeches?” I asked Trump.

Trump hesitated. “Who told you that?”

      “I don’t remember,” I said.

“Actually, it was my friend Marty Davis from Paramount who gave me a copy of Mein Kampf, and he’s a Jew.” (“I did give him a book about Hitler,” Marty Davis said. “But it was My New Order, Hitler’s speeches, not Mein Kampf. I thought he would find it interesting. I am his friend, but I’m not Jewish.”)

Later, Trump returned to this subject. “If I had these speeches, and I am not saying that I do, I would never read them.”

To clarify, I accidentally deleted a previous post. Dok said that this mucks up his work for compiling the “deleted comments” post at week’s end and would much prefer we used the “edit” feature instead. I was apologizing for deleting instead of editing.

If people think my sanctuary city is a safety threat, then they can stay the fuck out of it. That goes double for the president, who was here yesterday, lying about how the murder rate has been going up (it hasn’t!).

    • o’look Skwerl!

He’s welcome to stay the fuck out of my city.

      • Villago Delenda Est

He needs to get the fuck out of my country, and take his spawn with him.

  • Mr. Blobfish

Remember two weeks ago when executive orders were unconstitutional overreach by lazy tyrant Obama?

  • Beanz&Berryz

In addition to the Russian MAGA hat I need to get, I’m wondering just how closely “America First” translates to Amerika Uber Alles.” How’s someone’s German tutorializing?

    • Villago Delenda Est

“America Over All” is the literal translation. In the original context, it wasn’t about Germany being the ruler of everyone, it was about Germany being the first priority of the Germans, who were not united into one state at the time, so it was about German patriotism in the mid-19th century context. But of course it got coopted and turned into something much more disturbing.

      • Biel_ze_Bubba

So, a 1:1 correlation. Not exactly a surprise.

      • Beanz&Berryz

That sounds pretty much like the sentiment of America First…

        • Roadstergal

Then and now, it is exactly what America First was about.

However, FDR was not a fan. Having a true believer in the WH changes the dynamics substantially.

      • C4TWOMAN

        And oh how!

  • MeerkatsRMammals

This is bullshit of the highest level. This is all out bullying of sanctuary cities (which I also live in). He wants to be “for all Americans”, he can start by taking a good, hard look at the poem at the base of the Statue of Liberty. Or, he could scan protest signs at the crowds from last weekend – there’s plenty of issues ALL Americans want. One of which is rights for ALL. Might I suggest the screaming orange carrot demon take a field trip over to the Holocaust Museum? It might humble him a bit. On second thought, maybe not such a good plan, he might take away ideas on whom to persecute next :(

    OT: Anti Abortion March:

Apparently Trump is strongly suggesting the number of people marching are/will be greatly under-reported:

Organizers told the National Park Service in their permit application
they expect 50,000 participants. Trump said on the eve of the rally that
the crowd would be far larger, saying “a lot of people are gonna be
    showing up.”

“You know, the press never gives them the credit that they deserve,”
Trump told Republicans gathered in Philadelphia. “They’ll have 300, 400,
500, 600 thousand people. You won’t even read about it. When other
people show up, you read big-time about it. Right? So, it’s not fair,
but nothing fair about the media.”

    • Villago Delenda Est

Brooks is half right. While Reagan’s disposition was sunny, many of his actions were not far off from Drumpf’s, and the policies implemented under his watch set the stage for the shitshow we have now.

All you have to do is look at the initial reaction to the AIDS epidemic to see what I’m talking about.

      • Martini Ambassador

Yeah, I guess I should have specified. I just meant I agree with his assessment of this being a fear-based administration.

The only thing David should be doing with a nail is shoving it into the side of his head, with votes of course,,,

    • alwayspunkindrublic

The only thing David Brooks reliably manages to nail is his dick to the wall. He’s human enough to take issue with Trump….great, David, you get a cookie. But he couches it in terms of a junior high love letter to Reagan, conveniently leaving out that this whole post-reality, facts-are-what-we-want-them-to-be Republican alternate universe started with Reagan. Remember the mythical Welfare Queen and the trees that caused all the air pollution? What some people see in Reagan as optimism, I took to be deep, abiding cynicism in the gullibility of his acolytes.

Sorry…I DIDN’T MEAN TO YELL AT YOU!

The man says he’s never done anything that he needs to be forgiven for. Think about the pathology that has to exist for him to actually believe that statement. Think about the average human being. I say “I’m sorry” multiple times on a daily basis because I am a fallible human being.

Now here is the truly terrifying part that some are starting to wake up to. This man is so insane he thinks he is God. He thinks he is infallible. Scarier still, so do the evangelicals who voted for him. They believe, yet will not admit it to us, that Trump is their Christ. This is what we’re dealing with here, for better or worse. Sick people following a sick person whose being manipulated by sick people to make the entire world sick.

      • Ms.Moon

For people who actually read and try to follow the bible that evangelicals claim to love so much should know about the parable of the man who claims loudly in public about how righteous he is, he tithes, follows the law to the letter and is better than the sinner over there. The sinner over there felt genuinely contrite because he knew he was a sinner, The righteous man was not the person that was going to Heaven, so evangelicals unless they walk the walk will not be making it in. It is written in the bible but I think they’re not out of the begots yet it’s a slog so I give them a few more years to get to that part.

  • NastyBossetti

So if MrBossetti gets a speeding ticket, he would be listed in this report because he is an alien who broke a law? That seems like a good use of government resources!

  • Lefty Frizzell

So much hate surely cannot be sustainable. Some of those pushing this will eventually see the results on people they know, work and live with. It’s a terrifyingly short step from here to Kristallnacht – you think the Trumpkin on the street knows or cares whether the brown person is here legally or not? Jesus wept. How far can they go before they see?

    • More insidious, I think they do see. I think they are tacitly embracing it.

    • chazmanr

The average Trumpkin on the street has a Nazi flag hanging on the wall their family room already.

  • Hairstrike Alpha

Did anyone read that Politico piece about Trump getting ready to lift the sanctions against Putin immediately? Holy shit

  • OneYieldRegular

“I think that’s just something we’re all going to have to get used to” – Paul Ryan

[I am going to use this quotation over and over and over as long as Paul Ryan continues to enable Trump]

    • BadKitty904

      Think again, quisling.

  • SadDemInTex

Sacco and Vanzetti were not considered “white”.

    • BadKitty904

      “white enough”

      • BosGrl

Maybe now, but not then. As someone of Sicilian heritage, I had remarks thrown at me when I was in college in the early ’80s. It was just a teeny, tiny taste of what brown people deal with but it was eye opening.

        • BadKitty904

I’ve heard both sets of my Grandparents – all born into families who’ve been in America almost 200 years – talk about how Catholics weren’t considered “real” Americans in their youth…

          • MamaBrown

I remember hearing some of that kind of talk when I was a kid, in the 60’s. One of the families in our neighborhood was Catholic and my friend said to me “do you know who they get their orders from?? POPE. PAUL.” drama! we must have been about 7.
In 1834, an anti-Irish mob burned a Catholic convent to the ground in Boston. The Irish only became human when browner and non English speaking folk started pouring in.

          • BosGrl

It’s true. I grew up with mostly Jewish and Catholic kids, so I didn’t realize it until I was older. Catholics are not considered “Christian” either, something I have been told many times.

    • Carpe Vagenda

There was also a distinction between the irish/northern italians, who were considered high-yellow not-white people and more acceptable, and southern italians/puerto ricans, who were considered not-white not-white people.

Which is how West Side Story became the story of first- and second-generation ‘americans’ (who were first generation polish) squaring off against the “immigrant” puerto ricans whose families were native born american citizens for generations.

      • SadDemInTex

I would agree with you (my father’s family was from Tuscany and most of them are blondish and blue-eyed) but the experience they had in San Francisco, CA from the time they arrived (prior to WWI) actually discounts this. My father (first generation) sought only to assimilate with the white elite. In fact his entire generation of North Beach natives moved out of the Italian ghetto as quickly as they could.
Unfortunately, the story of lighter skin being considered superior starts thousands of years ago to when the Aryans (yes, that was their tribal name) conquered India and created the caste system…the conquerors had lighter skin ( the European traders were delighted to bring back the idea of a caste system that included this dandy detail with the spices and jewels). This sickness has infected the whole world

    • House0fTheBlueLights

This was my reality growing up as well–my Greek immigrant mother was not considered white, and our family–an Irish Catholic and a Greek orthodox, was “mixed.”

    • Roadstergal

Thanks, MSM. Let’s breathlessly report on every single hint of bullshit surrounding HRC, and not, you know, the actual policies and plans that she was endlessly trying to tell you about, but you were 100% uninterested in. The stuff that would have helped Americans instead of enriching her personally.

      • Marceline

For the sake of my sanity I try not to let people drag me into a rehash of Hillary but just yesterday almost throat punched someone who claimed that “Hillary never told the American people what her plans were.” I’m sick of shallow fuckers who can’t reason their way past a three words slogan whether its “Build the wall!” or “Feel the Bern” blaming that woman for the fact they have the attention span of a chipmunk on crack. I poured over her very detailed plans. That’s why I was so excited to vote for her. Not because of her vagina or the “establishment” but because Hillary Clinton looked into issues that affected me and worked her ass off to find solutions. I have a schizophrenic sibling. Hillary’s mental health plan made me literally cry when I read it because I felt like she’d reached into my soul and pulled out everything that keeps me awake at night and said “I want to help.”

  • Rags

Long, but hopefully useful to some – from the March on Science Facebook group:

For folks who are expressing themselves to congresspeople, this comes from a high-level staffer for a Senator (who is a friend of my friend XXXXXXXX XXXXX):
There are two things that all Democrats [ED: or anyone leaning progressive wanting to register their opinion] should be doing all the time right now, and they’re by far the most important things. [If you want to share this, please copy and paste so it goes beyond our mutual friends.]
–> You should NOT be bothering with online petitions or emailing.
    1. The best thing you can do to be heard and get your congressperson to pay attention is to have face-to-face time – if they have townhalls, go to them. Go to their local offices. If you’re in DC, try to find a way to go to an event of theirs. Go to the “mobile offices” that their staff hold periodically (all these times are located on each congressperson’s website). When you go, ask questions. A lot of them. And push for answers. The louder and more vocal and present you can be at those the better.
    2. But, those in-person events don’t happen every day. So, the absolute most important thing that people should be doing every day is calling.
You should make 6 calls a day: 2 each (DC office and your local office) to your 2 Senators & your 1 Representative.
The staffer was very clear that any sort of online contact basically gets immediately ignored, and letters pretty much get thrown in the trash (unless you have a particularly strong emotional story – but even then it’s not worth the time it took you to craft that letter).
Calls are what all the congresspeople pay attention to. Every single day, the Senior Staff and the Senator get a report of the 3 most-called-about topics for that day at each of their offices (in DC and local offices), and exactly how many people said what about each of those topics. They’re also sorted by zip code and area code. She said that Republican callers generally outnumber Democrat callers 4-1, and when it’s a particular issue that single-issue-voters pay attention to (like gun control, or planned parenthood funding, etc…), it’s often closer to 11-1, and that’s recently pushed Republican congressmen on the fence to vote with the Republicans. In the last 8 years, Republicans have called, and Democrats haven’t.
    So, when you call:
    A) When calling the DC office, ask for the Staff member in charge of whatever you’re calling about (“Hi, I’d like to speak with the staffer in charge of Healthcare, please”) – local offices won’t always have specific ones, but they might. If you get transferred to that person, awesome. If you don’t, that’s ok – ask for their name, and then just keep talking to whoever answered the phone. Don’t leave a message (unless the office doesn’t pick up at all – then you can…but it’s better to talk to the staffer who first answered than leave a message for the specific staffer in charge of your topic).
    B) Give them your zip code. They won’t always ask for it, but make sure you give it to them, so they can mark it down. Extra points if you live in a zip code that traditionally votes for them, since they’ll want to make sure they get/keep your vote.
    C) If you can make it personal, make it personal. “I voted for you in the last election and I’m worried/happy/whatever” or “I’m a teacher, and I am appalled by Betsy DeVos,” or “as a single mother” or “as a white, middle class woman,” or whatever.
    D) Pick 1-2 specific things per day to focus on. Don’t go down a whole list – they’re figuring out what 1-2 topics to mark you down for on their lists. So, focus on 1-2 per day. Ideally something that will be voted on/taken up in the next few days, but it doesn’t really matter – even if there’s not a vote coming up in the next week, call anyway. It’s important that they just keep getting calls.
    E) Be clear on what you want – “I’m disappointed that the Senator…” or “I want to thank the Senator for their vote on…” or “I want the Senator to know that voting in _____ way is the wrong decision for our state because…” Don’t leave any ambiguity.
    F) They may get to know your voice/get sick of you – it doesn’t matter. The people answering the phones generally turn over every 6 weeks anyway, so even if they’re really sick of you, they’ll be gone in 6 weeks.
From experience since the election: If you hate being on the phone & feel awkward (which is a lot of people) don’t worry about it – there are a bunch of scripts (Indivisible has some, there are lots of others floating around these day). After a few days of calling, it starts to feel a lot more natural. Put the 6 numbers in your phone (all under P – Politician. An example is McCaskill MO, Politician McCaskill DC, Politician Blunt MO, etc…) which makes it really easy to click down the list each day.

    • Marceline

I’m already turning into the political equivalent of an ex-girlfriend where Rob Portman is concerned. I just keep calling and leaving messages asking when we’re going to get together to talk about Obamacare. Then I hope on his Facebook page to let him know that I called.

Speaking of furrins…UNITED NATIONS, Jan 27 (Reuters) – The new U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, pledged on Friday to overhaul the world body and warned U.S. allies that if they do not support Washington, then she is “taking names” and will respond. “Our goal with the administration is to show value at the U.N. and the way that we’ll show value is to show our strength, show our voice, have the backs of our allies and make sure that our allies have our back as well,” Haley said.

    Value added world peace.

Godwin’s Law only says that the longer an argument goes on, the more likely Hitler’s name will come up. It says nothing about his name somehow losing the argument. That got added on by others. The actual axiom is still sound, I’d say now more than ever.

    • JustDon’tSayPeriod.Period!

It’s just that the time constant got shortened by 5-10 orders of magnitude.

It own’t be as creative, but sometimes you have to skip to the right answer.

      • AJ Milne

Also, it will shortly become: the longer an argument goes on, the more likely it is someone will be compared to Trump.

        • JustDon’tSayPeriod.Period!

We shall name it Milne’s Law!

    • MeGoFast

In this case Trump = Hitler is the argument. So, I suppose this demonstrates the inverse of Godwin’s Law: if someone is compared to Hitler then eventually Godwin’s Law will come up?

All-(ternative) things considered, I thought it would be beneficial to establish a rough estimate of how many names should show up on Donnie’s little weekly list…..

According to the EO … the list will be based upon data provided by the ICE Declined Detainer report…
(But he won’t get much bang out of that data)

As such, Donnie will probably broaden the list to include additional immigrant data…
So, I took 2015 ICE total removal data
and made a few cautious guesstimates based on 2014 ICE removal data plus data from a summary of Declined Detainers Reported from Jan1-Aug31, 2014 ….

On average per week, in 2015, ICE removed 4,527 people total.
But only 1,358 of those were removed from the “interior” — all the rest were removed at or near the border…. (sorry Donnie … ICE is pretty darn effective at the border)

Anyway, if every “interior” removal were listed there would have been 1,358 names per week on average….

Using the 2014 ratio of “Declined Detainers” to (estimated Interior) Removals..
when applied to the 2015 data….
•There would have been roughly 169 names on the average weekly Declined Detainer List…
•which would be less than 1 per Sanctuary City per week…

Donnie won’t like that either … since there’s no evidence to support the allegedly yooooge hotbed of immigrant violence supposedly threatening the Sanctuary Cities…

However, there will be lots of fact based data / numbers found in the various ICE reports that will surely be used in their Alternative Interpretation Process… in order to arrive at their desired outcome……

    ————————

    Overall For 2015 –
    ICE removals = 235,413
    70% at/near border(165,935)
Of those 165,935 apprehended at /near border 46% had prior charges & 54% did not

Of the overall 235,413 removals only
1,040 had known gang/ cartel affiliations

    Of the 235,413 removals
    62% were Mexican citizens

    https://www.ice.gov/sites/default/files/documents/Report/2016/fy2015removalStats.pdf
    —————————-

    In 2014 there were 315,943 removals….
According to a Declined Detainer Report for 2014….

8,811 Ice “Detainer” requests (8,145 people) were declined by 260+/- sanctuary counties across the US

    Of those 8,145 people
63% (5,132) had prior charges listed on the detainer

    Of the 8,145 people
Just under 23% (1,867) were subsequently arrested one or more times for a total of 4,298 arrests.
Each arrest had 1 or more associated charges for a total of 7,491 charges.

    Of those 7,491 charges…
The largest category of offense was drug possession (10%)
    followed by DUI (7%)
    Traffic Offense (6%)
    Stolen vehicle (5%)
    Arson (5%)

And only 6 of the 4,298 arrests were for significant crimes against persons or property

  • diane surette

Let’s publish the names of all the soldiers who rape their fellow soldiers.

    • Keith Taylor

      I’m all for it.

  • Suttree

So, we cannot keep an accurate tally of police shootings, but we should publish as many alien crimes as possible? I don’t imagine that this list will be padded in any way either.

    • Keith Taylor

See I’m not the only one to wonder if the lists wouldn’t be compiled from Muslim and Hispanic names chosen at random and probably belonging to people who don’t exist.

  • Joshua Doucette

Thanks for protecting us Trump. There is nothing wrong with letting people know how many murders and rapes are being committed by illegal aliens.

    • Damian L

      Should’nt it be Douchette?

    • handyhippie65

as long as they also let people know how many murders, and rapes are committed by citizen right along side of them, i agree. what do you bet, the crimes committed by immigrants will be lost in all of the reports of the crimes of citizens.

      • Keith Taylor

Yes, that too. Actually, an honest weekly report of the evil horrible crimes committed by immigrants vis-à-vis those committed by natural born citizens would be very enlightening … but what am I saying, this is Donald Trump, and it’s flying into the wildest realms of dream to use the word “honest” in connection with any idea of his. The lists would probably be prepared by Steve Bannon and Alex Jones. Since Goebbels is no longer available.

        • Joshua Doucette

I wouldn’t trust anything by Alex Jones. He has said the World is ending so many times, and publishes whatever weird facts he wants. The list would only be fair if it included how many crimes were convicted, not just alleged.

        • handyhippie65

the only connection dumpy has to the concept of honest, is that i honestly cannot believe he was elected. if he were ever honest, his nose would be so small, it would rival his peener for size.

      • Joshua Doucette

Of course. The FBI already publishes crime facts but they could expand on it.

        • handyhippie65

i mean in the same publication. as i said, the crimes committed by immigrants will be lost in the sea of citizen crime. they shouldn’t differentiate between those committing the crimes, just report the crimes.

          • Joshua Doucette

Maybe you are right. I guess his goal is to show how many could have been prevented by not having them in the first place. I can totally understand that if I was in this country illegally, I would be more willing to commit crimes because I would have nothing to lose or would be more forced into it or would just feel more anonymous. So he might have a point too. I don’t see how it could be misleading data if it is only a list of actual COURTS / JUDGES taking action against people, not just hearsay. But if Trump really wants to lower crime, helping people addicted to drugs would prevent 99% more crime than going after immigrants.

          • handyhippie65

most illegals don’t commit crimes. they try to fly under the radar, and work hard to send money back to their families. the narrative that they all are criminals is a time honored lie of anti immigrant politicians everywhere. there are a lot of illegals where i live. the majority of crime is committed by white citizens. the mayor of goshen, indiana is considering issuing city id cards to help them function in society better. the state will just love that.

Except that, among other objections, a yuuuge one is the sure bet that the lists he has published every week will be slanted, dishonest, and probably feature lots of horrible crimes that didn’t happen, committed by people who don’t even exist … like the three million illegal voters, or, going back a bit further to another administration, Saddam Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction. Forgotten those already? And not aware yet that Donald Trump is a bigger, more constant liar than Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, and Rice combined?

  • Zyxomma

Perfect piece, Robyn. I live in a sanctuary city. I know some lovely illegal immigrants. They can’t go home, or to visit kids/grandkids who live elsewhere, because they could not return. I really feel for them. Also, almost every restaurant kitchen in NYC would be bereft of help if illegals were deported.

    • Lawrence Meyers

Yes, I’m sure the families of those who have been victims of crime by illegal aliens are very sympathetic to your position. Maybe you should ask them how they feel, like the family of the woman murdered in cold blood by one such person in San Francisco.

As I am A Immigrant, and one what does not have the US American citizenship, but a perfectly valid citizenship from another country, I shall now commence to break one (1) US American law every single week, and bloog about it. Let’s see how long it takes for me to get deported! (Note: I look white enough to not have to live in fear constantly.) It’ll be fun!

    • be careful and let us know your progress comrade!

      • hvdv

Not planning the bank robbery for the first week! I’ll let everyone know when I have the bloog up.

  • nosuchuser

So we know exactly what they’re trying to do. I think we should publish a master list of all ‘police blotter’ reports from dumfuckitan. The first thing is that shit is comedy gold and two, it robs them of the argument of ‘we real americans are better’.

Think of the project as ‘people of walmart’ crossed with ‘cops’.

  • JParkerSD46

Many laughs am I having (between vomiting) as I read the official pronouncements from the mind of our glorious Dear Leader…Steve Bannon. Trump doesn’t write this shit. We all know it. Hell, he can barely read it. It’s hilarious (in a sad and terrifying way) to watch Rice Penis hand him a leather bound document, tell him in third grade terms what it is, listen to Drumph try to repeat what he just heard, sign it with his broad-tip sharpie (nothing too sharp), then hold it up for all the world to admire, like a small child, proudly displaying what he just did in the toilet.

    • HorseChestnut

Because overuse of executive orders is only bad if you’re a Democrat.

  • Marceline

Can you imagine if Obama had decided to publish a weekly list of crimes involving the use of guns?

It may be unconstitutional today but after Trump packs the court if won’t be. He’ll likely get free rein to pretty much as he pleases. We tend to forget the only thing that has prevented real extremes in our Government has been the people we’ve elected. Trump has no brakes. We’re watching a totally uncontrolled Id at work, fueled by hate and envy. Trump’s cohorts in Congress will gleefully destroy the United States too. They are modern warriors of the Confederate States of America and they now have control. They intend to destroy the U.S. we know and replace it with what would have been here if the end was different in 1865. The South was an oligarchy in 1860 and the new Republican’s are happy to bring that back. It’s highly unlikely we’re going to get our world back since we gleefully gave it away in 2010 and again in 2016.

    • Ducksworthy

I’m afraid you’re right. They always said the South Will Rise Again. We just didn’t know it would take this form. And if the Confederates had been in charge of the U.S. in 1941 Fascism would be the dominant form of government worldwide today.

      • UpstateNYObserver

Wait’ll we see the final results of the Trump-Putin joint venture.

“To better inform the public regarding the public safety threat…” I’m pretty sure this was originally published in Völkischer Beobachter in 1932.

This comes straight from “Stormfront” no shit.

“Convincing poor people their biggest problem is other poor people is the best way for the powerful to stay in power. Back in the day, factory owners would purposely sow discord and distrust between different immigrant populations in order to keep them from forming unions. And one of the first things European immigrants learned about becoming American was to hate African Americans.”
Robyn … do you actually HAVE to write stuff that is so cogent and straight-from-the-shoulder? Do you think I like sitting at my laptop slack-jawed with admiration? It just ain’t cool. On the other hand, considering the amount of mean-souled idiocy being posted online, you should definitely keep trying to counter it.
It’s true, that’s the thing. And a bit further back in the day, before the Civil War, the big rich slave owners played off the slaves and the poor whites against each other in the same way. “Poor white” appears, from what I can tell, to have been a more scathing term of contempt than the n-word. The black slaves sneered at the poor whites and the poor whites hated the black slaves. The rich white “gentlemen” were keeping them down in the dirt (sometimes they actually ate clay from the river bank to stave off the pangs of hunger) and ignorant, to maintain their own power and wealth. Then the poor boys went off to fight the damn Yankees who wanted to meddle in southern affairs … to keep the rich, rich.
    The more it changes …

So you trot out the Jews to use as political footballs?
You sure didn’t show much concern when Israel was under attack on a daily basis by rocket attacks. Or when Obama repeatedly insulted and dismissed the PM of Israel.

How convenient. What else can you use the Jews for, Robyn?

What this article surprisingly fails to mention is that this is not a list of immigrant crime, as a whole. It is a list of crimes committed by ILLEGAL immigrants, (other than the obvious federal crime of being illegally in the US in the first place.)

This is NOT meant to “isolate immigrants” and other wacky-ass conspiracy crap. It is to identify those illegal immigrants, most of whom are hiding in sanctuary cities, that are a higher priority for deportation because they commit crimes AND are illegally living in the United States.

Yes, the Nazis compiled lists of Jewish criminals. They were citizens of their community, and they were wrongly targeted because of their religion.

The Illegal immigrants on the list here are being identified because they’re NOT citizens and are breaking the law, not because of their color, religion, race or sex.
    There is a difference.
