Donald Trump wins the thousand-meter Empty Show Of Compassion event today as he and running mate Mike Pence dropped in on Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to nod and look concerned about all the flooding. And also to sign some Make America Great Again hats, despite Gov. John Bel Edwards’s request that he not visit the state for political purposes.

“Donald Trump hasn’t called the governor to inform him of his visit,” a spokesman for Edwards’ office said in a statement Thursday evening. “We welcome him to LA but not for a photo-op. Instead we hope he’ll consider volunteering or making a sizable donation to the LA Flood Relief Fund to help the victims of the storm.”

Edwards, a Democrat, also said Thursday night that he would prefer that President Barack Obama wait at least a week to visit.

Eh, why would someone important like Donald Trump want to consult with the governor of a state that’s in the middle of an emergency? Donald Trump goes where he wants! Despite the fact that a presidential visit involves a small army of aides and security, and would divert police and other emergency resources away from search and rescue operations, the Wingnut Media had a field day pointing out that while Trump actually went to the disaster area to spread around the compassion (and autographs), Barack Obama selfishly stayed on vacation like the uncaring monster he is, and Hillary Clinton remains too frail to even wave a palsied hand at the suffering Louisianans:

trump louisiana breitbart

Good lord, what horrible people!

President Obama has given no indication he will interrupt his two week vacation in exclusive Martha’s Vineyard to visit the flood victims. The president played another round of golf Thursday with television star Larry David and Bain Capital co-managing partner Jonathan Lavine.

The Obama family’s vacation is scheduled to continue until Sunday.

Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton will be resting from the campaign trail on Friday, and will also not be visiting Louisiana over the weekend […]

A number of recent stories have focused on questions about Clinton’s health and her need for extensive rest over the weekends.

The story also added, just so you know liberals are hypocrites,

The mainstream media, which was so critical of President George W. Bush’s handling of the Katrina flooding of New Orleans in 2005, has no such criticism of President Obama’s hands off approach to this year’s Louisiana flooding.

The Baton Rouge Advocate also published an editorial begging Obama to cut short his vacation and come to Louisiana. Asked about that plea on “The Rachel Maddow Show” Thursday night, Gov. Edwards was quite clear that he’d love to have Obama visit — in a week or so:

Edwards praised the federal response so far, noting that FEMA had arrived in Louisiana last Thursday as the flooding began and

since that time we’ve had everything that we needed in terms of assets and resources; we’ve actually pushed those down to the parish level, so the local first responders, they have received every request that they’ve made in a timely fashion.

FEMA head Craig Fugate traveled to Louisiana earlier this week, and Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson also visited Louisiana Thursday to meet with Edwards and make sure the federal response was meeting state needs. Damn that uncaring Obama! He has done NOTHING. Asked about the Advocate’s call for an immediate presidential visit, Edwards said thanks but no thanks:

The president is welcome to come any time he wants to come. I do want you to know…that within hours of me making a request for a federal [disaster] declaration, I got it from the president. He called me […] In all honesty, if he’s gonna visit, I would would just as soon it be a week or ten days, 14 days from now, because the vice president was here about three weeks ago to go to the memorial service for the police officers who were killed here, and I will tell you, it is a major ordeal — they free up the interstate for him, we have to take hundreds of local first responders, police officers, sheriff’s deputies, and state troopers, to provide security for that type of visit. I would just as soon have those people engaged in the response, rather than try to secure the president, so I would ask him to wait, if he would, another couple of weeks.

In other words, that monster Obama has even roped the Governor of Louisiana into his web of lies and indifference to the people of Louisiana, forcing him to put up this ludicrous cover story that emergency resources are more helpful than a presidential visit.

As to the comparison to Katrina, we suppose it might be worth noting that while Barack Obama’s FEMA director was on the ground in Louisiana almost immediately, George Bush’s FEMA administrator, Michael “Heckuva Job” Brown, had no idea there were dead bodies piling up outside the New Orleans Convention Center until he saw it on CNN. In fact, he said the feds didn’t know people were sheltering in the Convention Center until days after the flooding began.

So the federal response has been timely and has provided everything the state has asked for and federal officials are coordinating rescue and recovery efforts with state and local responders. That seems like a more important contrast to the Katrina response than whether Barack Obama has pulled resources away from emergency needs for a visit, but what do we know? The man is GOLFING, for godssake!

Want to do more for Louisiana than Donald Trump spending a few minutes unloading supplies on camera? Send some dollars to the Baton Rouge Area Foundation’s Louisiana Flood Relief Fund. And maybe ask Donald Trump on Twitter if he’s cut a check yet.

I actually heard him open a brief remark by saying how great of a relationship he had with Louisiana.

I don’t know about the modern Cajuns, but some of my Cajun relatives would have been telling this bibitte, “Embrasse moi tchew.”

  • Zippy W Pinhead

I saw the photo op on TeeVee. Drumpf and Pence stood at the back of a semi for a couple minutes and helped pass relief boxes into the hands of actual volunteers. So basically their contribution was to move those boxes three feet closer to the people actually doing all the hard work before handing them back

  • SDGeoff

See, rubes and rube-lettes. This is government at work for you. Everyone who needs to be involved is there, and no government official is using up deeply needed resources for a photo op.

As someone who works in DC–Do these idiots understand how clusterfucking presidential and vice-presidential motorcades can be???!!!!! People who’ve also been in other places the POTUS has visited can attest this, too. They shut down INTERSTATES!!!! When the POTUS is around, shit really comes to a stand still until he leaves.

When BAMZ visited Brookings a few years ago, which is on the same block where I work, the block was shut down to car/bike/foot traffic, snipers on all the roofs, and they told us to keep our asses in our own courtyard. I don’t see how adding all the security theater would improve conditions down there.

    • dslindc

      Exactly! Cannot upfist enough!

    • Spotts1701

And even flying over the affected area is problematic, since the FAA would have to close the airspace for the duration. Which means no choppers doing S&R, no planes bringing in supplies, nada.

    • Bub the Leftwing Zombie

Something I’ve been wondering…when Drumpf travels back and forth from the Trump Tower to the airport, does he go by helicopter? Because if he’s going by car the resultant traffic chaos probably helps to explain his poll numbers in NYC.

      • Lamashtar

He uses a helicopter for his campaigning travel, when his plane doesn’t go directly there, according to FEC disclosure stuff. That and his gas guzzling plane are why his campaign hemorrhages money.

    • Cliff Hendroval

Yep, NYC always has big warnings of whenever the President is going to show up because of all the street closings and whatnot. The news stations will sometimes say that if you don’t have important business in the city, don’t come.

      • jmhm

I used to work near the UN, and we regularly were herded inside for motorcades.

You could always tell Cheney’s. It had an ambulance.

To carry the spare parts, in case some of his failed suddenly?

      • SterWonk

I work near Moffett Field, and sometimes drive right by it on the way home. One night, I made the turn onto the street that leads to 101N (where I needed to go) and the entrance to the field (a good bit after the 101N turn), and ran smack dab into a very annoyed cop. I had to do a multi-point turn, go back up the street I came down the wrong way, and take an alternate route. It turns out that Obama had just flown in. That also explained why 237W (the other way I usually take home) was partially closed off as well.

        • Aquaria

I used to work over there, at the LMSC compound. We used to say it stood for “Let’s Make Some Coffee.”

    • LA Julian

To say nothing of the Governor specifically TELLING HIM NOT TO COME & DO A PHOTO OP bc it wouldn’t help. Nobody tells Trump anything!

          • YoBunnyBunny

      • cmd

The governor specifically mentioned what a mess it had been when BIDEN came to Baton Rouge for the cop funeral.

    • Miss Dill

I know! But not many people out there do and they’re so used to being lied to you can hardly blame them for just choosing the fantasy they’d like to believe.

    • Miss Dill

I worked a few blocks from White House and was convinced they should move that and that damn National Christmas Tree lighting thing to Olney or beyond.
I once was late to a charity event on a Sunday morning because W decided to go to church a couple blocks away and they had blocks and blocks cordoned off, with no clear information on what, so it was like a maze game.
Then the World Bank? Maybe to Oklahoma. Do we really need all this stuff right on top of each other? Hard to secure and with good transportation nowadays, no need to centralize.
      Venting now…

  • Ms.MLG1979

I simply cannot believe that elitist, snobby, uppity, black President would vacation in “exclusive” Martha’s Vineyard! Tacky. White men of the people frequent Trump resorts to enjoy gilded toilets and bidets that spew Trump wine onto their white asses, and golf with plaid pants that sit directly beneath their nipples.

        • Bitter Scribe

          • LA Julian

Well, he’d white-flighted to the exurbs, because Boston proper was too ethnic and scary for him and he could afford it, but yes, he thought all of Southern California was a Kurt Russell movie, 24/7/365…that’s what FOX will do to your critical data processing skills!

      • TheAmazingBeardedLady

The following is already making the rounds on FB:

Ok since the media will not tell anyone about this I will at least tell my friends and make this public so y’all can share and tell yours as well because I think it needs to be said.

Donald Trump visited Louisiana today. He brought with him a truck loaded with food, supplies, and toys that he personally passed out. He also donated money to a flood relief charity. He went and walked flooded houses in a community. He didn’t ask for state police or military security, I I imagine he may have had his personal security with him but hey he pays them so not my business. He didn’t ask for any road to be closed to bring him in or an escort to his destination, matter of fact he didn’t inform the government of his visit at all. He didn’t care if the government knew he was coming, he just came and brought needing people needed supplies. And the news covered it about 15 seconds and then used it as a hit piece to plug Obama’s visit that will happen. It was just wrong on many levels. No matter of you agree with Trump political are not what he done today was honorable and good, and he did it without making a big deal of himself. I hope more people of his statue will do the same in the same way, without all the hype of announcing their visit with intent of a public photo op.

I remember when Manitoba experienced massive spring floods in 1997. Winnipeg was mostly spared by the floodway diversion, but there was tremendous damage south of here (you might remember Grand Forks ND was virtually inundated).
Prime Minister Chretien called an election in the midst of the disaster (asshole), and then was photographed “touring” the affected area. He visited a part of Winnipeg that was being sandbagged to save some houses, threw one sandbag for the cameras, and left. It was pathetic.
Politicians, for the most part, should stay out of disaster areas. Send help, send money, send aid by all means – but treating people whose lives are being turned upside down as props in a political campaign is beneath contempt.

Speaking of arrogant, selfish, and self-aggrandizing…

The recently published 5th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) lists precisely the same nine criteria for narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) as did the previous version, published 19 years earlier. So, these longstanding diagnostic yardsticks are by now quite familiar—not only to professionals, but to interested laypeople, as well. Because only the extreme, or “classic,” narcissist fits all of these criteria, DSM specifies that an individual need meet only five of them (barely more than half) to warrant this unflattering label.

    1. Has a grandiose sense of self-importance.
    2. Is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love.
    3. Believes that he or she is “special” and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people (or institutions).
    4. Requires excessive admiration [regularly fishes for compliments, and is highly susceptible to flattery].
    5. Has a sense of entitlement.
    6. Is interpersonally exploitative.
    7. Lacks empathy: is unwilling [or, I would add, unable] to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others.
    8. Is often envious of others or believes that others are envious of him or her.
    9. Shows arrogant, haughty [rude and abusive] behaviors or attitudes.

Well, just to sow some discord and bad vibes here, I think Obama and Clinton can learn something from Cory Booker’s snow-shoveling stunt: The media doesn’t give a shit what you do unless they have pictures of you seemingly doing something. Yes, the idea that the president should personally be handing out supplies to flood victims is just as stupid as the idea that a good system for keeping the streets of Newark free of snow should involve the mayor and his shovel. Doesn’t matter, because you live in a silly country with an even sillier media. Trump is an idiot, but he knows that much. Going to Louisiana is an empty gesture, and you will be forced to make it anyway, so why not sooner, rather than after a media storm?

As long as Obama takes the heat, not Hillary, it shouldn’t be a problem.

        • Mezzaluna

People who don’t like Obama or Clinton would find a reason to bitch and snivel if either of them magical caused the waters to recede and rebuilt everybody’s houses overnight.

True. But it might have a limited benefit if the flooding recedes and FEMA does their job efficiently, people will forget about it before November.

          • malsperanza

Doesn’t matter vis-à-vis November. Louisiana will be the last state in the Union to vote blue. They’re just like that. So all that matters is that Louisiana needs help, and Obama needs to deliver it.

Meanwhile, Turnip saw a chance to repair some of the contempt and disdain he earned for attacking the Khan family. Nothing Obama or Clinton do would have prevented Turnip from going there and grandstanding. It’s just part of the campaign process.

    • chicken thief

I kind of get what you’re saying. Perhaps if Obama had called in some news channel and had them cover his call to Gov Edwards. Or Obama had Edwards hold the press conference where he (Edwards) repeatedly mentioned “…well, I just got off the phone with President Obama…”.

Some public show of “doing something” even though what Obama did was timely and appropriate but makes for lousy photo ops.

      • UnsaltedSinner

Exactly. Any symbolic BS is better than pictures of Obama golfing.

    • doktorzoom

Sadly True. I figure that with no reelection to deal with, Obama’s fine with being quietly competent. That said, calling a nationally-televised presser to ask people to give generously would have been a good idea.

yes, even a few minutes of appeal-for-relief-aid might help in more ways than one. my only concern with our President, at this juncture, is: what in the blue-eyed world is he doing, hanging out with some asshole from Bane (not a misspelling, a judgement) Capital?

Word is Obama will go next Tuesday. They’ve also put out press about making sure they didn’t disrupt, etc. The thing that makes me so mad about all this is that FEMA and Obama have been quietly doing what needed to be done all along and get no credit because it’s too boring for the media to cover. Much more interesting to make it about who shows up…..

    • Redgyal

I agree. Americans are on the average stupid enough to fall for it.

    • malsperanza

Just a reminder that no matter what Obama does, a disaster is fodder for people to rail about how awful he is. If he called a presser, he’d be exploiting people’s suffering to grab the spotlight and trying to campaign for Hillary. If he went to LA he’d be in the way. So he might as well just do the right thing.

    • bookish

Because these ill considered visits create a burden for those who are actually trying to help.

    • Amy!

Obama was going to get condemned regardless (either, as now, heartlessness for not showing up, or if he had shown up, heartlessness for diverting resources for his own personal aggrandizement).

Which makes it easy to do the right thing, the thing that the governor of Louisiana asked him to do.

If it still matters in a week, after he’s been there, he can think about how to do damage control. Maybe. I mean, why bother? The only people who are slamming him are the ones who were going to slam him no matter what he did. So he’ll do the right things, and let history sort itself out. And maybe take attention off Hillz, who has also behaved responsibly and stayed away until the urgency is less.

Just a reminder, Chris Christie claimed Trump gave to Hurricane Sandy Charity. He did not. Christie later clarified that Trump actually gave to the Drumthwacket Charity (the Charity the perserves the NJ Governor’s mansion) which Christie’s wife was president of. Funny enoug Mary Christie was also president of the Sandy Charity, but didn’t ask Trump for a donation to that.

    • Dee Andee

I wonder if he considered the 17 cents on the dollar he owed in taxes in NJ that he finally paid once Christie got him off the hook for the rest counted as a donation?

    He’ll build a dyke!

I remember when I was younger I considered Jessica Rabbit the epitome of beauty… now she looks monstrously deformed and I feel concerned about the physics and biology, especially how her body doesn’t snap in two with all the pressure her waist and the small of her back.

        • revenant

makes your back ache in sympathy, doesn’t it?

          • I Only Like Cats

            I already have enough backache.

        • jmhm

I kind of enjoyed that about her. It was kind of subversive back in the day to have a comic book cover deformed wombot point out that she was drawn to be objectified and what she wanted was for someone to make her laugh.

        • QHarp

I think it’s in the commentary for the movie (which is excellent, btw) where they talk about how they animated her boobs to literally defy the laws of physics when she walks, just to really push how cartoony she is.

      • cat cafe

Oh, please, he isn’t giving anything away! He was standing next to a truck filled with food, supplies, and toys for children, and grabbed the nearest thing, getting in the way as always, for a photo op (too lazy and dumb to wait for them to unload food so it would look better). God forbid he would even help, let alone actually donate anything. No, no, he was just jumping on the coattails of someone else’s donation.

    • major_asshole

I informed my Trump-supporting mother of this horseshit, and she said that we’ll never know how much the check he wrote anonymously is for. Because (a) he would EVAR do anything anonymously and (2) he would ever write a check without being prompted to by an army of outraged people.

My mother then said that, given Trump’s having done at photo op at Tony Perkins’s church, she’s thinking about making a donation to the fucking Family Research Council. My trans boyfriend and I, her son, really appreciate that.

      I live with an idiot.

  • I Only Like Cats

          • Sakonyachen

I find this formula works well:

            Step one.

Think about your general opinion of this person. Do you find them honest, hardworking, intelligent, compassionate, fortuitous, or any other redeeming human qualities? If no, skip to step three.

            Step two.

Is it possible that your life will be just fine without them in it? And if they are still in it, can you remain the person you are regardless of their inadequacy as a human being?
If yes, continue to step three.

            Step three.

Fuck ’em. Nobody is worth that much of your time

  • AngryBlakGuy

…sorry but I had to revisit this steaming crater of rat shit!!! As a Floridian that lived though multiple hurricanes(including Hurricane Andrew) seeing the plight of those people during Katrina hurt my soul!

-There were people stranded on rooftops tops for days
-Thousands of bodies floating in the street
-Thousands of people whose bodies have yet to be found
-Tens of thousands of American citizens sleeping in the street
-People on LIVE television begging reporters for whatever water or food they have
-Black people being called “looters” and white people are “finding” food

My rage level is borderline MELTDOWN right now!!! What is going on in Louisiana now, is nothing compared to what happened in 2005

    • Suse

I’ve heard some talking heads on CNN say this is worse than Katrina. I almost killed my TV.

      • Grizz1y

The actual flooding may be worse, but thanks to them now having a sane and effective governor and FEMA actually doing their job the human toll has been much less.

        • revenant

who could have guessed that having a functional government (i.e. Democrats running the Executive Branch of the Federal and LA state gov.s) would make a positive difference for people in trouble?

          • Reddishrabbit

But what about estate tax, surely that should be far more important?

          • revenant

important for distant heirs, perhaps, in a vanishingly-small, statistically insignificant number of cases. the newly-deceased, however, might have had other priorities, back when they still had priorities

    • ahughes798

Jeez….you lived through Andrew?! That was complete and utter devastation. Glad you made it, ABG. I know that the crisis in LA is not as bad as Katrina…but it still feels really like shit if you have just lost everything you own. I don’t think the talking heads(bombaklaats!) should really be comparing the two, and I empathise with your anger, so get it all out…. Take some deep breaths…play with that cute little boy of yours and give him a big hug. Then have your preferred variety of cocktail.

      • AngryBlakGuy

…I was around 12 during Andrew and lived in west Kendall, which is about 12 miles north of where the eye made land fall. Luckily we lived in a 2 story concrete home and were able to bunker down in one of the downstairs rooms. When it was all over the entire neighborhood looked like freaking Hiroshima. It took 2 weeks for power to be restored even though most people were too scared to turn it on in their homes because they were afraid that they would burn down what was left of their homes or accidentally electrocute someone with a unknown short circuit. I feel for these people deeply, I just hate the media comparison game. Just call it a tragedy and tell us how we can help

        • I, too, lived through Andrew and was even about the same age. I was nowhere near as close to the eye, though. We moved from Broward County to Sarasota County not long after Andrew because things weren’t ever the same afterward (plus, Sarasota County has probably the best schools in the state). Hundreds of thousands of people moved to Broward essentially overnight because they had nowhere else to go. I went to university in Palm Beach County about a decade ago and as far as I can tell, things had gotten even more crowded, and it’s probably even worse now that flooding is a routine occurrence in Miami. These people can eat a bag of salted rat dicks (with votes, obviously).

          • AngryBlakGuy

…well first off, I’m pretty sure that mentioning that “These people can eat a bag of salted rat dicks” doesn’t have to be followed with votes. Considering that eating “rat dicks” technically won’t cause any physical harm(unless they are mixed with half cooked mussels and 4 day old curry). Secondly, yep, Miami went from western vacation spot to 3rd world nation in 24 hours. However from one S.Fla to another S.Fla, I couldn’t live anywhere else. I would rather be miserable in Miami then “fulfilled” in Utah. But then again I’m a masochist(Miami Dolpins fan)

          • Good point about the votes. I wanted to move to D.C. for awhile but I’ve accepted that it won’t be happening for awhile (for starters, I do not have the funds to make that happen, and probably won’t for years) and that’s fine. There are much worse places to live right now than Florida, and I have a support system, a decent job, and good friends here. Plus, for all that people rag on this state for being nuts, most of the people here are usually pretty nice, and anti-Semitism simply does not fly in this state (which, as a very Jewish-looking person of Jewish descent with an extremely Jewish name, is quite important to me; I would probably feel legitimately threatened in certain other parts of the country in the age of Drumpf).

So, I mean, yeah, Florida sucks in some ways, but it could be a lot worse, and at least it’s not Arizona or Utah or something. (Though maybe even Arizona isn’t completely Arizona anymore since some polls suggest that it could go blue this year – as could Georgia and South Carolina for that matter. Then again, Drumpf is a candidate of historically unprecedented awfulness.)

Trump: smells a photo op – takes

Obama: sends aid, stays away, so as not to interfere with needed resources. I live.

Obviously, a Trump rescue is not in my best interests.

Apparently this is secret service CAT (counterassault team) stuff.

My guess is that POTUS asks them to tone down the decor, but Turnip likes the panoply.

      • Amy!

I saw that speculation the other day, but it doesn’t really add up, for me. Went and looked at descriptions of the team and of their role. Their chief role is to hang in the background, heavily armed, so that if the principal is ambushed, they can pop up and blaze away, which is supposed to provide cover for the men-in-black who shadow the principal and whose chief role is to keep the principal safe at any cost.

So … if these guys are US SS CAT, they’re behaving uncharacteristically, by taking point, and by making themselves targets instead of staying background until a threat pops up.

They still could be, I suppose. If anybody could manage to get a half-competent CAT contingent, it’d be the straw-topped yam.

        • malsperanza

If Turnip were hiring heavily armed private thugs, I expect that would be covered by someone in the media, but I haven’t been able to find anything.

The uniforms match other pictures. But mostly, if there is one single thing that Turnip really knows how to do, it’s to create a picture that pops on TV. US SS gives him a chance to flaunt the one thing every fascist dictator requires: a military guard.

I figured it gave him a nice opportunity to pay himself some more of that sweet sweet campaign donated money for using his own plane to fly him there.

  • Iwasonemore

wasn’t a photo op – he sent in sizable donations made personally and discussed what other help was needed with local community leaders and residents.

BTW – Governor said what he said about Obama to cover for him – after they spoke; so Obama could finish his vaca.

Trump was the one who helped him… he’s helped a lot. He just doesn’t help people to get headlines – despite what the media wants to continue to falsely portray.

Even if they’re not allowed to post hyperlinks, you don’t mention a single name except the governor (who might have his own reasons for not wanting to offend Trumpelthinskin) and some unnamed people. You say you read news but you don’t mention a single paper or writer.

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oODGikbJ2g

          • Iwasonemore

he did it way under budget (and used his money upfront) – saved the city a lot; the prior costs $12 million – were because of bad deals/contractors etc. the City Parks and Recreation Head had hired and city Admin had contracted with, not Trump – and this guy – the original Engineer was not hired by Trump, instead the City – who owed him; not Trump. Engineer didn’t get paid by the City. He was not due any monies out of the $3 million Trump billed the City – had it complete in a few months. Anyway, the citizens and taxpayers were fabulously happy that Trump fixed the mess everyone else had made. The politicians and contractors and [engineer] who were the mess to begin with, were not.

I know – even the good “articles” back then, because Trump showed them up, were a little snarky toward Trump. In “doing good” I guess and fixing everything cheaper and in 1/20th the time they had screwed around/bilked the citizens (those were tax dollars – not personal politicians’ dollars) for, Trump aced it! All the fanfare and professional ice skaters and hoopla he held for the opening Mr. Trump paid for out of his own pocket to celebrate with the Citizens. Yay! I think politicians and screw up contractors and City Officials looked as if he was “one-upping” them all/showing their inefficiency; which he probably was. He had a right to.

But – again Vincent DisMone was only owed by the entity that hired him: NYC and the Parks and Recreations Department – who didn’t pay him. Mr. Trump never contracted with him and did not owe him any money.

(Never worked for Trump but have worked with big Developers before; and the really excellent ones – which Trump is absolutely have shown others up to be the best. That’s good! Had the City officials not been embarrassed that they screwed up – the press would not have been so negative toward Trump.

Be kind – the City finally got their ice rink – and had not Trump stepped in to fix it – it probably would have taken many more years and another $12 million before they finished the project for the people. He didn’t do anything bad. Trump did good.

Found an actual article from time:

            http://www.nytimes.com/1986/11/15/nyregion/about-new-york-pssst-here-s-a-secret-trump-rebuilds-ice-rink.html

The “City” was happy it was finished and couldn’t deny Trump the credit – but as you will read – they were furious too…

that he showed them up. The people of NYC were thrilled though! That’s what counts.

Don’t be angry at him because he’s efficient.

          • WomanInAMood

So many words! So little meaning!

          • Iwasonemore

            was attempting to give insight.

Short answer: Vincent DisMone was contracted by and was to be paid by NYC, not Trump. He would have needed to sue the City (not Trump) for his payment. Unfortunately, for him, at time – all of the contractors who bilked the taxpayers out of $12 million dollars for not doing a job they were hired to do and received more than full payment for work never completed, used the excuse, “the engineer gave the wrong information, that’s why we screwed up.”

The City never paid DisMone because of. Squirrels – all of them. City officials, engineer, and prior contractors before Trump stepped in to fix things.

            Yay Trump!

          • Roxy Bryant

I have to agree with you, I read this article on a few other news sites (that are, by the way, anti Trump) and this version is way off. They are reporting that people were saying things they did NOT say. I watched the video that a citizen made where everyone was saying nothing but nice things about Trump and Pence. How much they helped out and they were happy and relieved that they showed up. And the Governor never not one time said he was mad about them showing up. This story is nothing but exaggerated lies to undermine what Trump/Pence did because they CARE!

          • WomanInAMood

            Hello new friend!

          • Iwasonemore

it was an “accident” on my part – I just thought everyone was reading fairy tales as reporting by mistake. Oops! But – looked around further on net – you are right; these articles are on purpose and to give an untrue perception.

            thank you.

          • glennisw

“Under budget.” Is that what they call it when you stiff the contractors?

          • Iwasonemore

the city of NY stiffed contractors, including the Engineer – Trump didn’t hire nor was he responsible to pay the Engineer – the City of NY was.

You guys don’t get it – you just sound nasty.

    • WomanInAMood

      Why are you here?

      • Iwasonemore

no – but on other news coverage that isn’t trying to undermine/lie – they show actual footage (uncut) and the flatbed loaded with donations for one town; etc. with interview (not Trump) but people who were there; and were happy the two Pence/Trump did show up and were thankful; and like when 911 happened – without fanfare (don’t think Trump wanted for this either) he donated all of workers and buildings and money/assets to do both rescue and help families; and he’s a builder too – has fixed government screw up projects plenty in past – so if there is issue with “how to fix this” his expertise is valuable to all – contractors, army corp of engineers, others.

        • WomanInAMood

That doesn’t actually answer my question. Why are you here?

          • Iwasonemore

some of the stories on this site are great and I agree with; other things not. But mostly there are some good articles – anyway, while researching another issue – found – and the flood coverage isn’t correct a lot of place on the internet.

Don’t worry – not hostile. This website/you guys seem fairly open to discussions with more than one viewpoint; and this particular story reported a little off – just adding clarity because accidentally some news sources picked up on a weird version/reported wrong.

Anyway – the bit about the “governor” being adverse – not true – Pence is a governor/the two governors know each other – and don’t think any of this has political overtones meant… because of the relationships already.

Were Trump’s “donations” just as substantial and generous as all the other donations’s he’s claimed to have made, but have not followed through on?

There’s this thing called providing proof.

    • WhatTheFlux

Unloading Play-Doh from a truck in a suit, in August, and signing red Trumpolini hats, is a photo op. And his visit required diverting LA law and public servants from the cleanup effort, to clear the way and secure the area for Trumpolini’s visit.

And really, the Gov “covered” for Obama? What do you suppose the payback will be for that – a round of golf with the Negro in Chief?

      • Iwasonemore

just a friendly chat – that’s all. No dis to the governor – but certain Obama’s input was added (re timing of visits) to make this less of a PR disaster for Prez. Obama.

Nice mouth – talking about Trump aka what this article is about

        • Zippy W Pinhead

Should I get you a fainting couch, shitforbrains? The governor made it clear that he didn’t need Obama, Clinton or Trump there until preliminary rescue efforts were further along. Two of those three people listened and complied, but not your short fingered vulgarian. Then you dumbfucks all losts your tiny little minds because you’re all too stupid to understand that the absence of a personal appearance by the president ≠ not doing anything. In fact, then all you mouth breathers engaged in your favorite pastime of historical revisionism and erroneously claimed that that was what liberals were complaining about with regards to W’s fuckups with Katrina. The truth is, nobody expected Bush to helicopter in during the first few days, but his fuckup crony appointment- Heckuva job Brownie- was so clueless that he didn’t even know what was going on in New Orleans for days after landfall.
