"The fuck?"

Who is the greatest? ELIZABETH WARREN! And who is getting flying flaming shit arrows from all sides this week, whether from the purported head of the Democratic Party (who you could say with an almost straight face “leans” Clinton) or from a thousand whiny Bernie Sanders fuckbabies on Facebook? ELIZABETH WARREN! And what are we going to do about it? WE ARE GOING TO BOMB HER WITH LOVE.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz, First Among Assholes

First up (surprise), Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the head of the Democratic National Committee, is being an asshole again! Wasserman Schultz hasn’t been making a lot of friends this cycle with her somewhat glaring impartiality in the presidential race (even among Hillary Clinton supporters), but now she’s joining with a bunch of dick Republicans to go after Elizabeth Warren’s Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. They’re the ones who say, “No, payday lenders, you may not actually charge the blood of a firstborn son, that is Rumpelstiltskin only.” Or, “No, scammy car dealership people, black people have to pay the same rate as white people, we are sorry to ruin the Free Market with our communist tyranny, oh wait no we are not, STOP BEING RACIST AT CAR LOANS and go be racist at your grandson’s nice girlfriend instead, we cannot regulate that because freedom.”

So those are good things, and Elizabeth Warren fought alongside our President to make it happen even though Republicans SUPER tried to stop it from happening and would never vote to confirm anyone to head it, because they are schmucks, and now Debbie Wasserman Schultz is helping them, like, “hmmmm, maybe these mean rules are not necessary, let’s just let them regulate themselves probably, because I’m a twat and I’m hateful.” How hateful exactly? She’s cosponsoring the “Consumer Protection and Choice Act,” which joins the Healthy Forests Initiative and Operation Iraqi Freedom in its brazenly Orwellian amounts of go fuck yourself. The — lololol cough cough CHOKE — Consumer Protection and Choice Act allows states to set their own limits for how much they’d like to gently lathe lave (heh heh Freudian as fuck whoops) and tenderly suck on the balls of payday lenders. In Florida, whose state laws regarding payday lenders DWS said were super totally great and awesome, the average interest rate for people with quick (lol “quick”) payday loans is 304 percent.

Wait, how many percent?

304 PERCENT.

We cannot imagine it helps Hillary Clinton to have the head of the DNC alienate one of the most beloved Democratic members of the Senate (and it’s not like the mysteriously more popular Joe Manchin and Patrick Leahy have big followings outside Wherever the Fuck). Warren is also a senator whose endorsement Hillary desperately wants, so let’s dispel with this notion that going after the CFPB is payback for Warren’s not yet having endorsed Clinton — although, fuck it, “not helpful” is pretty much DWS’s MO, so maybe it is!

Still, Occam’s Razor would suggest that Debbie Wasserman Schultz knows that a horse head is unlikely to persuade Sen. Warren to Hillary’s side, and ALSO that Hillary has some credibility problems with her ties to the financial services industry, so she probably really doesn’t want the head of the DNC ass-fucking poor people for PAYDAY FUCKING LENDERS OF ALL FUCKING SCUMBAGS, so it’s probably just DWS being a disgusting grifter who needs to RESIGN NOW. Is $31,000 in donations (in 2013-2014) from payday lenders really enough to convince DWS gutting protections for consumers is a super peachy idea of greatness? We guess so, because the alternative is stupider.

But What About The Bernie Fans, They Are Being Awful Right?

Yes. You can go into a seven-hour Internet Black Hole and read every comment and FIGHT WITH THEM if you would like, but I love you and I already did that for you. (Yes, you can send money in gratitude!) But why are the Berners mad at Elizabeth Warren? Because Bernie Sanders narrowly lost Massachusetts, and it is ELIZABETH WARREN’S FAULT, that is just science fact. After having signed a letter encouraging Hillary Clinton to run for president, Warren did not immediately turn around and say “OH NEVER MIND I WILL JUST FLIP FLOP ON THAT BECAUSE I AM SUCH A FAIR WEATHER FRIEND” and endorse Sanders instead, but has remained, for now, neutral in the primary race. And that is why a thousand somewhat overwrought voters will NEVER VOTE FOR HER AGAIN, and WILL REMEMBER, and SHE IS A SELLOUT AND A CREEP and other NOT NICE WORDS, because they are “registering their disapproval.” Nah, hon. “Registering disapproval” is Anjelica Huston in The Royal Tenenbaums saying, “You’re a smoker? Well. I think you should quit!”

Also, lol, there’s this Facebook idiot:

“…all talk no action.greedy power hungry cowards.the revolution is coming. it could have been peaceful…”

Oh, can it and go join a militia.

In a surprise move to counter the Trump v Clinton election race, the GOP has announced that Elizabeth Warren will be their third party candidate in the presidential race.

  • Pinkham’s Law

Oh, FFS, Berniebros. Your “guy” is an adult. Pretend to be the same, also too.

    • mtn_philosoph

      Massholes will be Massholes.

But What About The Bernie Fans, They Are Being Awful Right?

    Yes.

Fortunately, the leader of Elizabeth’s backup troops has arrived:

All these Anti-Warren posts are just trolls stirring up BS. Look at the profiles of these Trump loving trolls. Don’t be fooled. Bernie and Hillary fans don’t post this kind of obvious garbage. Come on people – don’t fall for this crap.

    • yyyaz

      Hear here.

    • A Grumpy Cat, Not Esq.

Not ALL of them are trolls. There are total dickwads in every candidate’s camp.

      • Damian L

If you disagree with a person you admire doing nothing when they are more than able to help, you are either a dickwad or a troll?

        • UnsaltedSinner

There’s honest and respectful disagreement, and then there’s being a dickwad or a troll. The full range of Bernie supporters cover all of the above.

          • kindness

You haven’t seen my facebook feed. I’ve unfollowed more than a couple of my really good friends because they have become Bernie assholes. And I like Bernie. I’m going to support which ever Democrat wins the primary. Berniebros all too often think that is a bridge too far.

In the unfollowing I have pointed out to a couple that their voting for Nader in two different elections didn’t help Democrats at all.

        • A Grumpy Cat, Not Esq.

If you wish she’d endorse your candidate, but respect her decision and don’t harass her on social media, you’re a decent human being.

If you wish she’d endorse your candidate, but don’t respect her decision although you don’t harass her on social media, you’re a dickwad.

If you wish she’d endorse your candidate but don’t respect her decision and choose to harass her on social media, you’re a troll.

          Any more questions?

          • kindness

Are you suggesting I’m a troll because I just posted on DWS facebook page that she is a terrible Democrat for trying to wipe out Senator Warren’s excellent law? Sure hope that isn’t what you mean.

          • A Grumpy Cat, Not Esq.

Nah. I’m assuming you weren’t all, “KILL YOURSELF, BITCH!”

          • kindness

No, I’m a butthead but not an asshole. Good. Thanks. I was hoping I was wrong.

          • Slithytoves

This is all getting very complicated.

        • Tansy Geek

If you politely state your regret that your hero (for want of a better word) had not stepped in, whether or not it would have made a difference, you are being an adult. Threatening, disparaging and abandoning your hero because she didn’t do what you want, whether or not it would have made a difference, is childish, spiteful and worthy of a Trump fluffer. And if you’re not even from her state and threaten to not vote for her, you are a fucking idiot asshole dickwad shit for brains and should be forced to move to a dumpster in a hot place. Or possible a Scot Brown fan.

  • Joe Beese

I swear by all that’s holy that this is not a joke.

I was just typing up a little screed about how much I hate Debbie Wasserman Schultz, for just this kind of shit, when I remembered for the first time in years that I had a junior high school crush named Debbie Wasserman. Though the closest I ever came to declaring my feelings was bringing her flowers in the hospital after she was injured in a softball game. She probably had only the barest idea who I was.

It couldn’t be the same person, of course, so I went to Wikipedia to learn more about this nemesis of progressivism. And learned that she lived in Melville, Long Island in the late 1970s! And the picture, now that I look at it closely…

    OH MY FUCKING GOD.

I can’t begin to express my horror at this moment. But it’s true…

I was once in love with Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

  • Callyson

One last one, because this is obligatory for any story about Elizabeth Warren:

  • Swampay

“Consumer Protection and Choice Act allows states to set their own limits for how much they’d like to gently lathe and tenderly suck on the balls of payday lenders.”

Sorry, Rebecca, but I think you mean “lave”. Although “lathe” is good and probably a better idea..

    • Latverian Diplomat

I suspect her substititon of “lathe” for “bathe” is a hilarious Freudian typo.

      • Gristle McThornbody

Actually, I think Trix meant ” 20-grit belt sander” instead of lathe. That’s what I would have gone with.

        • Dr. Krieger IRL

I have a pneumatic disc sander, would that work?
My belt sander died helping my Dad build a new wood shed.

          • yyyaz

          • Dr. Krieger IRL

Time for Hillary to rip the bandaid off and deal with this shit- send this clown packing, even if it means dealing with the chaos of upending the DNC going into GE season. Drumpf will feast on this hypocrisy and tie it to you no matter how hard you try to avoid it. Kicking this bitch to the curb will also go a long ways towards assuring the Bernie supporters that you’re serious about finance reform. I really can’t blame the Sanders faithful for questioning your sincerity when you let this problem continue to fester. There is nothing DWS can do for you that will come close to offsetting what a liability she is- fuck the loyalty, DWS has shown none to anyone, including you (or she wouldn’t be pulling this crap now), boot her sorry ass.

  • Scooby
  • Zippy

Remember, this is the same DWS who not only has made a mockery of the primaries and the debates to the point even team Clinton had to tell her to knock it the fuck off, she is also the inept, self absorbed idjit who has lost both the house and senate in blowout midterms and she has also publicly backstabbed Bamz several times as head of the DNC on various issues, including most recently opposing the Iran deal

    • JaaaaaCeeeee

DWS does seem to go overboard with her support of Hillz- in 2008 she said she could understand why the PUMA’s existed. I dunno why she was made head of the DNC in the first place but she needs to be replaced by someone who won’t go out of their way to piss off their own party by going overboard supporting a candidate. that’d be sweet.

I’m always BRING BACK HOWARD DEAN, but I will take Old Handsome Joe too

      • dave in texas

Exactly. When the party abandoned his 50-state strategy, it started getting blowed out in mid-term elections. That’s not the sole reason, of course, but FFS, why abandon a strategy that had resulted in Democratic majorities in both houses of Congress to go back to the “battleground state” strategy that had been so spectacularly unsuccessful?

      • Dr. Krieger IRL

OHJ as Democratic Chair would be wonderful.

        • Zippy

except it couldn’t happen until 2017 and the DNC can’t wait that long

          • Dr. Krieger IRL

            I’m willing to wait.

          • Zippy

then we need an interim- put Brazile back in- she did OK last time. But DWS needs to go yesterday…

          • Dr. Krieger IRL

            Agreed.

    • lroom

If she wanted Hillary to win this time she wouldn’t have pulled this crap. This plays right into the Hillary is all about money over people crap. DWS is working for Trump.

      • Zippy

I think DWS is working for DWS and no one else. Unfortunately, that helps Drumpf

    • cleos_mom

      The PUMAs really existed?

  • finette

I looked at a few of the FB comments the other day when I saw someone mention the shitshow on Twitter. One of the first indignant remarks I came across was: “I’m taking back my Like from this page because [blah blah blah].”

LOL millennials (I’m a millennial, albeit on the older edge).

    • Lizzietish81

Me too. Born in 81, puts me in the cusp of Gen X and Millenials.

I look down on both. Though not as much as I look down upon Baby Boomers.

      • JustPixelz

You know I can hear you from down here, right?

        • Lizzietish81

          Get off my lawn geezer.

      • Pickwicknext

I look down on everyone. People are terrible, especially in groups. I was also too born in 81, & would like both millenials and boomers to get off my lawn

        • Villago Delenda Est

Exqueeze me, that lawn was mine first! Get off of MY lawn, whippersnapper! You probably ask the question “Was Paul McCartney in a band before Wings?”

Christ, not all Boomers are right-wing assholes. Some of us are the aging hippies who were right all along about all the stuff that right-wingers hate. Vietnam really was a clusterf**k. Civil rights really are important. We actually have to take care of the planet. Weed is a good thing. Granola is delicious.

I really hate to think that Clinton ordered Debbie to attack Elizabeth so as to attempt to weaken anything that Elizabeth is about to hit Clinton over the head with – b/c it really looks like Elizabeth has no desire to endorse Clinton…

    • Lizzietish81

I doubt it. Debbie is a nobody, Warren is the best loved Senator in the world. Hillary isn’t stupid, she knows she’s going to need Warren to help bring the more liberal elements over.

DWS has managed to piss off both the Sanders team (at least once for the wrong reasons, but oh well) AND the Clinton campaign several times during this campaign – she’s fucking terrible at her job.

Again with Hillary’s ties to the financial services industry meme, yet I never hear anyone at Wonkette mentioning that Bernie is totally in the back pocket of big maple syrup.

    Bring back Howard Dean!

    • Spotts1701

President Obama said “put her in charge” back in 2011, and the DNC said “sure, we’ll do that”. Helps to raise $17 million in as a Freshman Congresswoman back in 2006 to get other Dems elected.

      • Lizzietish81

So this is a legit “Thanks Obama!” moment

        • Zippy

keep in mind that a good portion of the DWS suckage has transpired since that appointment. At the time she was a relatively loved up and coming Dem. We didn’t get to see the ugly side until she had gained the power and started abusing it

      • Zippy

Kaine came after Dean (as did Donna Brazile as interim)

      • Vincent Ricola

Poor Howard Dean was so far ahead of his time with that scream. If he would’ve done something like that in 2016, he’d have been internet remixed into the white house faster than you can say Donald J Drumpf.

        • Vecciojohn LLC

He should have embraced it and made it his trademark. Scream for Dean!!!

      • Lefty Frizzell

I’ve never understood what everybody thought was wrong with that. It doesn’t look or sound at all strange, scary or unhinged to me – just a man being enthusiastic. Really – what is the big deal here?

        • Pam Hyland

I liked it and was ready to vote for him all the times. I was really confused and angry when the MSM vilified his enthusiasm.

The sooner she finds a race horse’s head in her bed, the better.

  • Shibusa

I like Bernie and think he’s a decent man. I also see HRC’s many flaws and shortcomings.

But I also find it kind of amusing that Bernie-bots take such offense when it’s pointed out that Bernie supporters and Trump supporters are, more or less, two sides of the same disaffected voter coin. They just point fingers in different directions.

    • Villago Delenda Est

I don’t think Bernie supporters blame people with more melanin for their problems, quite the opposite. Which definitely separates them from the Drumpfenproletariat.

      • Shibusa

I didn’t say Bernie supporters blame brown people.

        • Villago Delenda Est

No, you didn’t, and that’s why I pointed it out. It’s a very important distinction that the morans of the MSM are loathe to make, because the narrative is “Bernie is the Democrats’ Donald” even if it makes no fucking sense, because the vermin of the Village MUST have a “both sides do it!” narrative.

          • Zippy

Because the MSM is lazy and in love with their memes

        • Vecciojohn LLC

We are very touchy because we know Clinton is going to win the nomination. Besides, She Herself has instructed us to STFU and get on the trolley for Clinton, so I’m ordeering my Hillary shirts and enlisting for the duration.

      • Lizzietish81

Well actually…they do. Yesterday I saw a meme with MLK on it all “why aren’t you black people voting for Bernie who marched with me?”

They have this attitude that black people don’t realize or just don’t understand that the Clintons are bad for them! I mean Bill killed Welfare (cause all blacks are on welfare natch)

Stop me if this sounds familiar.

So yeah, there’s a ton of condescending crap directed towards blacks from the Bernie Bros camp.

        • Villago Delenda Est

That does sound very familiar. Apparently some Bernie supporters DO blame brown people. Bernie needs to set them straight.

          • Zippy

To his credit, he has- but they seem to hear what they want to hear the same way the Trumpkins do

          • Zippy

There’s a cadre of them there that alternately are either in mourning for Bernie or who lash out and swarm anyone not in lockstep with them. There are times it’s nearly impossible to tell the difference between some of the hardcore Bernie fanatics and your typical GOP stooge, given the ferocity and the viciousness of their anti Hillary comments- #notallsanderssupporters by any means, but a subset of them who have lost their everloving minds

          • Lizzietish81

It’s actually pretty common among the more elitist. I first realized this when in college in my environmental capstone class this woman was going on about how we need to keep hammering away at people who drive SUVs and I had an epiphany and said “Has that EVER worked?”

It’s the same with anti smoking. It’s this belief that if we explain it better than people will stop smoking, driving SUVs and being assholes.

And of course conservatives do it to, except it’s bullshit, like “We keep explaining to blacks that the Democrats are making them dependent, but they don’t get it.”

          • Zippy

It’s the tunnel vision of the true believer- Hill has hers, O had his, just think of the Paultards. Some people just get way too carried away

          • Lizzietish81

YES that’s the word I was looking for. I had educated, but that was wrong, and then elitist. True believer is that I wanted.

        • Zippy

They love to yell “superpredator!” as if Hillary hasn’t profusely apologized for that remark (which was also a mainstream view of the problem at the time- wrong though it was) and as if she is personally responsible for every single thing Bill did as POTUS and as if even the black community from black church leaders on down weren’t actively in favor of tougher drug and gang laws, given their neighborhoods were under siege at the time. It’s the arrogance of that 20/20 hindsight

    • Vecciojohn LLC

Wow! Both sides do it. I guess us stupid Bernie kids will just go vote for Trump just to show you Hillary lovers!

Honest to God, there was an article about the primaries in which a group – not just one, a whole group – of Sanders supporters said they’ll do exactly that. It was infuriating.

    • Lefty Frizzell

It’s just that Stormtrumpers blame the browns, when they are clearly not the problem, while Bernie-bots blame the confluence of a corrupted supreme court, a corrupted campaign finance system, and a huge corporate lobby corrupting the process of government in favor of the investor class, when they clearly are very big problems indeed.

    • Tansy Geek

It makes me feel embarassed to be associated with such reactionary, obtuse pinecones. I like Sanders way back when he was the Socialist major in Burlington. • AngryBlakGuy

…I have been lucky enough to not “need” a pay-day-lender. But I can, for SHIT tell you they are the scum of the earth. They will ask potential MARK “customers” to write a check for the amount “loaned” and then if the loan is “defaulted” then they will prosecute you for “check fraud”.

    #AlwayAway

    • Back when I was young, I probably would have gotten caught up in one of these things if they’d been available to me. It doesn’t take much to tempt someone into this who is living paycheck-to-paycheck. It’s wrong, and Warren is right, and Wasserman-Schultz needs to go away. Now.

    • Zippy

Had a friend’s family get caught up with one of those monsters- they had an emergency and needed $1000 so they put up the family car title (worth 3 or 4 times that). Everyone’s Being A Dick To Elizabeth Warren

    Well today end’s a “Y”.

Beth can take it because she’s an Uber strong woman that J.R. “BOB” Dobbs would be afraid to clash horns with.

I FEEL THE BERN, and not a big Clinton fan….I’m not one of these crazy Left wing socialists (I’m a sane left wing socialist). But no matter which way the coin lands…..BETH FOR VP!

I just like her, and I felt that she should’ve run instead of Bern. Hansom Joe/ Beth Warren 2016.

I do respect their Franklinesque view of the Senate.

    • Villago Delenda Est

The thing is, if you look at where Senator Warren comes from, particularly in regard to the financial sector, it all makes remarkable sense. It’s well grounded in reality and eschews the magical thinking that is at the heart of GOP economic “thinking” starting with Reagan and ending with Dick Cheney’s famous quote that “Reagan proved that deficits don’t matter” that remarkably does not apply to anyone with a D after their name if they occupy the White House.

      • DoILookAmused2u ?

She also makes a lot more sense than Sanders on these topics, and she knows what she is talking about also too.

        • Villago Delenda Est

Absolutely, she knows the facts solid. I can understand why some people find this a turn off (her lecture style) but I just eat it up because I’m weird that way…I am entertained by the knowledgeable sharing their knowledge that way. It’s fascinating to me. She persuades, not with emotion, but with fact. She is awesome. Love her to death.

          • sw19womble

That’s why she needs to be in the trenches, fighting at bill-drafting level.
And also why she deserves not to be shot in the back with “friendly fire” by the likes of Debbie Weaselface Shultz.

        • Lefty Frizzell

In the sense that she can layout the reasoning in a much clearer manner I’d agree – but that’s because she’s exceptional at it, not that Bernie’s so terrible. In what they’re trying to say I don’t see much difference.

          • DoILookAmused2u ?

Bernie is kind of terrible. He’s on that Rand Paul Audit the Fed (meaning he wants to allow people to quote mine deliberations) thing like it’s something, he says over and over and over that Glass-Stegall was the primary cause of the banking crisis, and it was not, while a piece of legislation he actually voted for (The Commodities Futures Modernization Act) ,probably because Phil Gramm was holding the budget hostage, was the primary deregulation that created the huge shadow-banking market that enabled the dang worst crisis since the Great Depression.

Having voted for that–considering the situation–might be a forgiveable offense. Not learning from that mistake, not so much. Even Bill Clinton who signed the dang thing into law says it was a mistake, and in retrospect somebody should have taken Gramm to the woodshed on that one.

          • Lefty Frizzell

EW seems to like G-S as well, and also link it to the 07 collapse:

            http://www.warren.senate.gov/?p=press_release&id=872

          • DoILookAmused2u ?

No. She’s pointing out the big banks got even bigger post crisis through the private sector part of the bailout, and by absorbing the investment banks as bank-holding companies, and now their influence is magnified through that consolidation, and they keep trying to undermine Dodd-Frank, or as I call it, “a good start”.

She, in no way, erroneously claims that Glass-Steagall’s repeal is the cause of the last crisis because she is smart, and she knows what she is talking about.

Sanders has a learning disability on this subject.

She, I, and anybody with half a clue know that AIG, Lehman Brothers, Bear Stearns, or Countrywide, etc … didn’t have a thing to do with retail banking in any meaningful sense (at least before the crisis, now they own/absorbed them if they survived at all).

It is erroneous to claim that the problem was Glass-Steagall then.

It is wise to note we have new risks now.

          • Lefty Frizzell

“Not all by itself” implies to me “also not zero”

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6rnsLNvXzM

          • DoILookAmused2u ?

She says right in that video Glass-Steagall would not have prevented the last crisis. She gets it. Bernie, not so much. His supporters are pretty bad too. She knows what the risks are now vs what exactly happened in the derivatives markets and in the mortgage broker markets.

I say, you have to be able accurately describe what happened in the last crisis (and the previous S&L crisis, LTCM, etc), break it down, look at which policy changes directly contributed to them, and then articulate present risks to be taken seriously.

Nobody is going to take you seriously on financial matters if you cannot. This is Bernie’s problem.

He may appeal to younger voters who had no skin in the game and think they know more than they really do, but that’s about as comforting as talking to a Republican who wants to blame it all on the GSEs and the CRA,

Let’s have Mr. Magoo drive us somewhere! yay.

Love how he always tries to lay the blame at the feet of something else when it was, partly at least, his own vote that helped create that mess.

Chief economists for even the IMF like Simon Johnson and Joseph Stiglitz do not agree with the Clinton narrative that Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren claim reanimating Glass Steagll would have prevented 2008 and that Bernie Sanders on the FED is Rand Paul.

Clinton’s, Krugman’s, and Wall Street’s spin on what Warren and Sanders are proposing is, however, news media catechism.

Not one of the financial institutions that set it all off would have been regulated by Glass-Steagall. Not one. Not Bears Stearns, not Lehman Brothers, not even lesser players like Goldman Sachs, Merril Lynch, or the various Hedge Funds that together were leveraged up more than 4 trillion (when the total banking system was only 10 trillion, so danger-danger WIll Robinson, deflation ahead).

Then there was AIG. Not covered, and 100s of billions more in basically worthless swap contracts that folks were using to “manage risk” (lol).

            Think about that.

            http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2015/10/14/448685233/fact-check-did-glass-steagall-cause-the-2008-financial-crisis

Whether or not breaking up the banks especially after all the shot-gun marriages in 2008 would be a good idea is worth considering. I mean BAC bought Countrywide (for 4 billion, and then got hit with 17 billion in lawsuits because of that) and bought out Merril Lynch, and that alone is a wow kind of a beast, so it’s certainly something to consider.

And I will see your economists (without fact-checking you), and raise you a Paul Krugman, J. Bradford DeLong, Mark Thoma, and the vast majority of salt-water economists out there.

            http://www.cbsnews.com/news/clinton-on-glass-steagall-right-or-wrong/

            http://delong.typepad.com/sdj/2011/10/no-the-repeal-of-glass-steagall-was-not-a-major-cause-of-our-lesser-depression-but-that-is-the-wrong-question-to-ask.html

The SEC leveraging rules for the investment banks that allowed firms that would not have been covered by Glass-Steagall to leverage up 80+ to 1 on mortgage purchases and synthetic CDOs would have still collapsed, and with that the money markets would have went just like they did, and when everything stopped moving but prime mortages to people with exceptional credit who could repay the loans as the job market collapsed, it all still would have happened. Because the LAST crisis had bugger-all to do with Glass-Steagall and everything to do with CFMA.

Now, the super-entities that emerged from the 2008 bailouts and forced marriages would have been impossible under Glass-Steagall.

            But take heart.

This is the part where I tell you that being wrong is kind of a good thing because:

            http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2016/02/03/half-a-loaf-financial-reform-edition/?_r=0

PS. I am sorry Bernie is wrong about this. But it is not my fault. It is nobody’s fault but Bernie’s.

I am also sorry that there may have been others who might have mislead you using what has to be the most tenuous analysis.

Patrick Leahy stood up to The Joker. Just sayin’

    but DWS is truly scummy.

  • Mavenmaven

Given that most of the Bernie bots are like 19, they will just sulk and not vote if he’s not the candidate. They might just sulk and not vote even if he is the candidate, so I don’t think it will change Warren’s situation either way.

    • DoILookAmused2u ?

They weren’t going to vote if there was a new episode of “Big Bang Theory” on TV either, most likely.

  • kath1y

DWS is reprehensible. Why is she even a Democrat?

Her anti-Bernie stuff has been bad enough. But being anti protecting the most vulnerable financial consumers is despicable.

I’d never paid much attention to just how bad she was. I only know that whenever she’s been on TV, I mute because I know she’s just going to give pat, pre-fab replies.

This is much worse than being a boring spokesperson. She’s against some basic principles Democrats hold dear, favoring power elites against the people. Yes, she should resign.

    • sw19womble

To answer your first question: no, she isn’t.

I can think of a lot of words beginning with D to describe Desperate Debbie the Dickbag, but ‘democrat’ is not one of them.

    • thenearesthippie

So yesterday I got a fundraising call from the DNC. I said that as long as DWS was in charge the DNC could go fuck itself.

      • DoILookAmused2u ?

Yes, the Koch’s will like that too.

Seems a bit like cutting off your nose to spite your face when you consider how important downstream elections are going to be, but what do I know?

Oh, I know that DNC chairs ain’t Twinkies and have a much shorter shelf-life. That I know. That and there’s a slim chance of re-taking the Senate, so you might want to consider holding yer nose or maybe complaining to folks instead of cutting the thing off.

        • Brewerofbeers

That is similar reasoning to the police saying that we have to tolerate their abuse, because otherwise the other criminals will take over and be worse.

          • DoILookAmused2u ?

Not really. She is one person.

You are taking it out on others. That’s like saying, “you blacks are askin’ for it”.

Meanwhile, no Senate, no liberal SCOTUS.

          • Brewerofbeers

That’s like saying, “you blacks are askin’ for it”.

            Holy leap in logic, batman.

          • DoILookAmused2u ?

            Not really.

And another thing… Bernie keeps yapping about a “50 state strategy” and how we need one.

His contribution to that end? $5,000 bucks. total.

Clinton has raised and turned over 20 million for a “50 state strategy”, and it ain’t enough.

          • Brewerofbeers

Yeah, yeah it is. Not giving to the DNC directly doesn’t mean that you can’t support the candidates directly. It is the exact same as people claiming that support of BLM, or wanting to hold police accountable, inherently equals “wanting to murder all police.”

I am also not sure why I would be overly impressed with Clinton shilling for money from banks and lobbyists in return for favors.

          • DoILookAmused2u ?

I don’t see it happening. And I can read Sanders’ financials, and I haven’t seen him out campaigning for anybody else, or doing anything to try and achieve what he says is so important.

He said it. He ain’t doing squat.

        • thenearesthippie

Of course, it’s not possible that I could donate to individual candidates, or otherwise support state and local democrats. But apparently I’m a racist(?), so what do I know?

          • DoILookAmused2u ?

I didn’t say you were racist. I said you were painting everybody in the whole DNC with the same brush because of the current chair. That IS stereotyping. And it produces bad judgement.

      • kath1y

I get tons of fundraising email because I’m one of those people who sends money…not gobs of it, but what I can afford.

So now, I change the subject line to “Sending my bucks to Bernie”. I hope DWS finds it annoying. Doesn’t do anything, of course, but it makes me feel better.

  • DoILookAmused2u ?

  • Relativicus

I am sufficiently tired of Millenials. What annoys me the most isn’t that they exhibit the tell-tale know-it-all-ness that I, and you, and that jerk over there exhibited when we were that age. And it’s not their attitudes about Hillary because the poor dears have been raised their whole lives knowing nothing about Hillary except what has been hollered at them by the Anti-Clinton Industry. And, it’s not even because they’re all proclaiming they’ll stay home in November and let Trump or Cruz or that little weird one with the six-head be president. It’s because for all the “we’re our own peoples,” and “we want a futures,” only around 5% of them will ever even consider the possibility of thinking about maybe voting in the 2018 midterms. And that pisses me off.

Unfortunately, I think you have to tough it out. But in no time at all, you’ll be shaking your cane at your very own up and coming generation. Besides, us X’ers have only ever been place-holders between the Boomers and you all. We’re the Korean War of generations. Interesting while we were happening, then quickly forgotten.

        • 451 Byrnes

This is us in a nutshell. When the boomers are all gone, we can fade away and the millenials can fix the shit we left broke. Consider it a challenge.

        • JustDon’tSayDittos

Not sure about that “interesting while we were happening” part. Unless you count Prez Bamz, and his happening is now.

          • Relativicus

There were a brief couple of years when X’ers were the talk of the town. Then, in no time at all, The Media christened something called “Generation Y” for a spell (I haven’t heard that sub-group mentioned at all for quite some time now, and suspect they were remolded into the tip of the Millenial Spear).

And then came The Millenials, who seemingly from the jump split the Trend News with the Boomer Generation, Retirement Edition. Now, thanks to the election, the Millenials dominate, but by next January, Boomers will regain their dominance as they continue to impress the world thanks to them running it.

Meanwhile, the poor, forgotten X’ers trudge through our Middle-Child lives screaming “Marsha, Marsha, Marsha!” at anyone who’ll listen. And that’s mainly just other X’ers.

And now you know… that I read a lot of stupid shit.

      • Takoma DC

Maybe the descriptors are clichés? It’s always a bad idea to use a small group, within a larger group, as a definition of the bigger group.

I believe this is true. D’ s need to focus on midterms more than presidential election.

          • DoILookAmused2u ?

Right now, they need to focus on the President and the Senate. Then the midterms.

          • Takoma DC

Senate & midterms – thought it was the same? I think pres election already gets massive attention. Imho, yes senate races/midterms need more focus. Get more Dems registered. DWS messed up not continuing with Dean’s strategy. Just my opinion. If Trump beats Hillary, or Hillary narrowly wins – it will be proof of DWS/DNC’s many mistakes.

          • DoILookAmused2u ?

There is the slimmest chance Dems can take back the Senate this cycle.

She does not appear to be qualified for the position of DNC chair. I have no idea how she got the job. Especially considering Howard Dean her predecessor had implemented excellent strategies and I believe was always ethical and diplomatic.

DWS seems to be lacking in these qualities and several more. I think she should resign. Hopefully the new Chair can carry on Dean’s strategy instead of wasting time helping exploitative enterprises become more exploity. DNC chair should be lazer focused on states with weak D support. November will be here faster than you can say Wasserman-Schultz-Rumplestilskein.

I’m just saying, the ugliness coming from the very people who ought to be the core of EW’s support is shocking. I get the typical partisan food fights of FB, but usually those are between republicans and democrats or conservatives and liberals- not supposed allies

          • Brewerofbeers

            “not supposed allies”

I mean, progressives are generally as diverse a political group as any other. While I think the bitching about not endorsing either candidate is moronic, I am also sure that someone out there thinks my views are stupid too. And while I love Warren, and had a sad when she didn’t run, I don’t necessarily agree with her on all of the things – that is generally expected.

Plus you have the weird phenomenon of people – whom have never paid attention to politics before int heir lives – feeling suddenly empowered and probably having no fucking clue what they are talking about as a result. That is the sometimes dangerous aspect of populism. As Asimov lamented ‘the notion that democracy means ‘my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.’

I think that people might put too much stock in comments made through the megaphone that has become the internet.

I just visited both of her official pages and I can count at least as many supporters of Bernie cheering her on as I do detractors – plus the required “all of the detractors are Hillary bots and impersonators” assholes. Most of these people probably had no idea who she was before someone else told them to be angry at her. I imagine even fewer of them are actually her constituents.

          • Yeah, i kinda agree. The Wasserman-Schultz issue is different because that’s a political figure stupidly undermining another politician. The other is “reader commentary” which we already know is a toxic pile of dumb (which is why Wonkette doesn’t allow comments, remember?) One involves someone with undue influence on political policy who can use that influence to negatively affect a whole bunch of people. The other is idiocy we can easily ignore. Let me point out that the FB comments would have more importance snd general relevance if Larry David Bernie Sanders or some ofgicial campaign person posted this stuff to Facebook (actually no it wouldn’t because Facebook is a giant pile of E-suck and I can go on a whole “old man yells at cloud” rant about how no one should be taking it seriously at all, but I’ll stop before i tell you about the onion i use to wear on my belt.)

  • thenearesthippie

I thought Bernie lost MA because Bill Clinton stood outside all the polling places swinging his dick.

    • Lizzietish81

Well it IS an impressive organ

    • Kevin Morin

And sidling up to the ladies in line and encouraging them to pull the lever.

    • toomanyrappers

I should have worn a blue dress! ;)

    • cleos_mom

That’ll keep ’em happy. For now.

  • Marceline

Yikes. I followed that link to Liz Warren’s page. I didn’t realize that she was being Berned at the stake like that. These people are fucking ridiculous.

    • DoILookAmused2u ?

      They’re newly minted.

    • Zippy

Jesus, there’s some ugly BS going on there. WTF is wrong with those people? On the plus side, there are a number of Sanders supporters telling the nitwits to chill the fuck out and show some respect, but wow, you’d think EW had just publicly stomped a puppy to death the way some of them are carrying on…

      • JaaaaaCeeeee

the trolls aren’t bernie supporters and berniebros are as negligible as PUMA’s were, except in their usefulness to the promoters of the concept like David Brock.

      • toomanyrappers

This makes no sense. There’s no reason to attack Warren. She’s the face of the party right now. She’s a beacon.

    • HazooToo

I’m not sure how one politician’s endorsement matters that much to them. If she doesn’t want to make a public endorsement, what is the problem? Bernie still has a chance, though Hillary is doing pretty well. I would really love to see him as VP if he doesn’t win the nomination. He could do really well there, too. A VP is not a Presidential Pet! It’s seriously not worth flaming someone over. Now if she’d endorsed Trump, maybe! But she’s not that into rotten jack-o-lanterns.

  • whitroth

No, it’s not Warren’s fault. Besides, from what I read yesterday, it’s debatable who actually won MA, since they apparently came out with an ->equal<- number of delegates, which makes MA a *tie*.

    mark, Bernie (and Wonkette) supporter

  • Iam Reading

DWS + DNC = Seriously why? + WTF.

Shouldn’t the head of the DNC be marketing the party and recruiting voters? DWS is the opposite of that. Almost as bad as the RNCs Rinsed Penis, or however you spell that twats name.

  • freetofu

Meh, I think I’ll just copy/paste my last response in the conversation below so it goes on top for a while. Here it is:

Back now… yes, the “English Only” lie was actually what first got me so disgusted with all these underhanded moves.

Here’s a telling tweet by the Snopes writer who debunked the “English Only” lie.

    https://twitter.com/KimLaCapria/status/701872338837577733

Look, Trump and all his Republican opponents are obviously awful, and I’ll vote against whichever gets the nomination.

But the sleazy maneuvers of Hillary and her supporters mean I’ll definitely be holding my nose.

    • MikeyArmstrong

Didn’t Bernie’s people rifle through some lists of names which gave him an edge over Clinton?

      • Paperless Tiger

They’d do better spending their time ironing his shirts.

        • Manhattan123

And brushing the dandruff off his shoulders.

    • BeliTsari

Save your breath… alternate universe. It’d be the same if Warren were running.

    • rebecca

Tofu, it’s not kosher to post the same thing again “so it’s back on top for a while,” fyi.

    • Truthiness2U

Meh, back. After watching Susan Sarandon farm-splain to Dolores Huerta? she can sod off.

      https://vid.me/MOGL

Maybe Dolores misheard something, or misunderstood what was being shouted. But I’m not taking Susan Sarandon’s word about jack.

  • Kavefish

I vote Debbie Wasserman Schultz off the island.

She can go sort pop rivets for Boeing for all I care.

    • Villago Delenda Est

Put her to work in the sugar fields she loves so much.

  • Lefty Frizzell

“…all talk no action.greedy power hungry cowards.the revolution is coming. it could have been peaceful…”

That sounds so much like a RWNJ sovereign citizen wannabe I’m just having a hard time believing that somebody who believes that they believe what Bernie believes would write it, about Liz? If legit it’s very sad.

  • MikeyArmstrong

Her district is overwhelmingly blue. I don’t know why a smart progressive hasn’t primaried her dumb ass yet. She’s absolutely awful.

  • Mr Sincere

What, is DSW trying to lose the election for the Democrats single-handedly? First there was the ridiculous debate schedule. Now she’s being a poster-girl for all the (misinformed) voters who say there’s no difference between the Dems and the GOP.

As for the “Bernie supporters” posting junk about Elizabeth Warren on comment boards (not to mention the junk about Hillary) probably many if not most of them are GOP sock puppets.

    • DoILookAmused2u ?

Did you know, that between Republicans and Democrats (especially if you count those RNC junior debates as separate debates), we have had more debates for this Presidential Election than in the first 200 years of this country?

      I have debate fatigue.

      • To be fair these are not “debates” as much as they are “tarted-up reality shows” so I don’t know if they count.

    • toomanyrappers

I love Warren. She doesn’t have to jump into the campaign.

  • Cheesus Crust

    #bernedthefuckout

  • Paperless Tiger

At least Bernie’s campaign gave his followers something to do for a while besides watching snuff films.

    • Iam Reading

Wait, ouch! I’m not entirely sure that was necessary

  • Henri205

I’m as gay as a picnic basket (thanks for that line, Sophia Petrillo) but I love me some Elizabeth Warren. She actually cares about her constituents, and lucky people they are.

    • ahughes798

That’s really good..”gay as a picnic basket!” I used to work with a gorgeous young man who referred to himself as “gay as a box of birds.”

  • AlanInSF

    Clintonians gonna clintonate.

  • Jeremy7

Payday lenders are a scourge. 300% is not even that high for what payday lenders charge or can legally charge. While payday lending was legal in Arizona (it no longer is) the highest legal rate was over 1000%. A quick Google search shows that Alabama allows a 17.5% finance charge for a 10-day loan, for an effective APR of over 600%. Honestly it’s shocking for someone to call her- or himself a Democrat while supporting (or even tacitly condoning) such predatory lending practices.
Re the Berners, their conduct towards Sen. Warren depresses me. I support Bernie, too, but I wish his fellow supporters would channel their energy into engaging people on the issues rather than attacking one of the best, most important, and most progressive politicians in our nation.

  • OrdinaryJoe

I am confident the Consumer Protection and Choice Act will never get signed into law by President Oblackma. So everybody can chill on that pile of legislative shit becoming law. I would like to see Hillary bitch slap the bill to instant death by saying she would veto it if she became President. Then Dummie Wasserman Shitz can tell her money grubbing working people destroying friends, “I tried.” Oh, and would somebody please knock that damn DWS off her pedestal at the top of the DNC. She is on track to single handily hand the election to T-Rump.

  • ViveLaRes

Sigh. Like I need another reason to be sorry to live in Florida.

  • freetofu

Oh, good, now you HAVE called them Bernie bros, so I take back that thing I said before… I guess “Berniebots” is more inclusive, although the “bots” part is sort of derivative, it seems to me.
Here’s a quick roundup of Hillary supporters acting badly that I googled
    https://topherhallquist.wordpress.com/2016/02/25/liberal-pundits-are-embarrassing-themselves-over-bernie-sanders/
I’m sure I could find more.

The funny thing is, the only time I actually ever encounter this sort of thing on either side is when someone links to it.

    • TheTrue Pooka

All I know is I’ve had to block a number of people I was friendly with for years when they suddenly became “Berniebots/ Bernie bros” and started insulting me, my family and my friends.
I’m sure it happens elsewhere but I haven’t seen such behavior from the HRC supporters in my circle.

I Plan to vote for Sanders in the Primary, HRC in the main election.

      • Kilt Heshill

keep the faith. history will show the correct the record people are paid shills, exactly like the WW2 propagandists. Here’s some ammo, free of charge.

  • Bill Slider

A peaceful revolution, interesting that is. I thought a peaceful revolution was called a nap.

  • Last Hussar

304%? Is that all. You should see some of the loans here in the UK, whose annual rate works out at 1200% That is PA, and the loans should only be a month, but…

  • Senator Prof. Warren is a clear, intelligent and forceful leader. I wish she was running but I suspect she doesn’t feel ready, especially foreign policy, which is HILZ expertise and is the strong suit of the Presidency. That said Warren and Sanders must keep HRC moving to the left so she doesn’t drift back to the DLC mediocrity.

  • toomanyrappers

Warren probably pissed off the DNC pretty good when she challenged the president on his trade deal. I mean challenge, too. She didn’t back down or apologize; she even fired back after Obama tried to tell her to get back in line and be quiet. That’s my girl. :)

Yes. We’re all disappointed she didn’t run, but we still love her.

Warren doesn’t have to endorse anybody. She can’t afford to choose sides right now. She has to work with the next president.

  • Celtic_Gnome

The revolution is coming? Yeah, right. Until 2018, that is, when all the Millenials sit on their hands, and the Republicans retake the Senate, and we end up with Barack 2.0 as far as obstructionism goes.

    • DoILookAmused2u ?

The problem I have with the Bernie-bots is that they have a false narrative of the Great Recession that they cling to every bit as religiously as the Republican base clings to the myth that “Democrats did it with CRA and the GSEs”.

That and they have zero comprehension about how a party works to provide a stream of credible candidates at the state-level while they mindlessly chant “50 State Strategy”.

Today, for example, it was announced that Patty Judge will run for Senate in Iowa. She is one of 3 Democratic candidates in Iowa for that Senate seat, but she’s probably the only one that is a credible threat to Grassley who is currently holding the SCOTUS nominee hearings hostage and who is very popular in Iowa. There is no way she’d be entering this race if there wasn’t funding in advance because Grassley has a formidable war chest and is popular. This challenge is possible because there is $$$ to back it up, and credible challengers are unlikely to emerge and run for the office without funding being available out-of-the-gate when the incumbent is popular and well funded.

Heck, I live in TN, and the last time Corker was up for re-election, the only Democratic challenger was a former Animal Control officer with links to white supremacist groups because Corker was popular and well funded, and nobody credible wanted to run against him just to be drug through the mud with zero chance of winning.

But the Bernie-bots say things like “we can support individual candidates” to wave their hands at the fact that the Sanders campaign has contributed a grand total of $5,000 dollars toward these Senate races while Clinton has contributed 20 million dollars.

They just do not get it.

  • Be Gin

Way back in 1968 ABC had convention “debates”between Gore Vidal and William F. Buckley. Both are dead now. Recently I saw a documentary about this called “Best Of Enemies”.

What possible relevance can such an old subject have on the current “campaign”?

In a nutshell Gore called Bill a crypto-nazi and Bill called Gore a fag.

Sound familiar? Bill also promised to shut Gore up with his fists.

    Our past is our present.

    • Jena-Auerstedt

Great moments in literary oneupsmanship. Gore made mincemeat out of Buckley, though Buckley sadly won the political fight because the country has been moving rightward ever since.

    • DoILookAmused2u ?

It wasn’t the Candidates themselves. They were smart enough back then to use proxies. We’re hitting a new low in Modern Politics.

Historically, we still haven’t hit rock bottom because of the Civil War era and that thing in 1804 when Jefferson’s VP shot Alexander Hamilton.

  • freetofu

Well, shit. @orientdistress is no more. Probably got sick of Hillary bros being a dick to her.

  • OneDemin EOr

True progressives will never be against Elizabeth Warren.
Look to Karl Rove. I do not believe these are legit Bernie supporters.

    • Kilt Heshill

True progressives don’t vote for corporate war-pigs just because of their genitalia.

  • Iam Reading

DWS is a Republican plant, right. Otherwise the Democratic Party is completely fucked and stupid because she sucks sucks sucks sucks. The DNC is supposed to attract voters why is she their head?

  • Kilt Heshill

Warren is a sellout that just backed the biggest corporate-whore,
warmonger in most living people’s lifetimes. Do some research before you
