Texas Rep. Not Saying Obama Made Up Climate Change Hoax, He's Just Askin'

In Texas, every schoolboy learns, apparently, that he can say anything, no matter how crazy it sounds, so long as he's just askin' what everyone's a-thinkin', is all. Don't you dare accuse Republican Rep. Louie Gohmert of sayingPresident Obama is a terrorist when he's simply "raising questions." And please, for the love of yee-haw, do not accuse Republican Rep. Lamar Smith of being one of them climate change deniers who thinks snowballs prove it's all a hoax. He'ssimply investigating  whether government agencies are falsifying their "science" data, to serve their master, Dark Lord Sith Obama, and implement his evil agenda to make it look like we're all going to drown from rising sea levels, if we don't burn up like piggies on the BBQ first, from global warming:

At a fall constituent meet-and-greet on Tuesday, Congressman Lamar Smith, chair of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology, rejected the suggestion that he doesn’t believe in human-caused climate change. [...]

When one woman asked him about his reputation as a climate change denier, Smith said that he’s merely a “semi-skeptic” — that while he thinks human activity has “some effect” on the environment, he doesn’t know how much.

Can't imagine where Rep. Smith's constituent might have gotten the impression he is a climate change denier. Maybe she caught his epic speech on the floor of the House in 2009, when he explained that "human-made global warming" ain't real, kids, and you should GET MAD at the TV for not telling you The Truth:

The networks have shown a steady pattern of bias on climate change. During a six-month period, four out of five network news reports failed to acknowledge any dissenting opinions about global warming, according to a Business and Media Institute study. The networks should tell Americans the truth, rather than hide the facts.

As the Texas Observer notes, the "semi-skeptic" is enjoying his subpoena power, as head of the House committee that controls "a $39 billion budget that includes operations at NASA, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Science Foundation," and has been using his fancy new authority to seek "raw data and internal correspondence from federal climate change researchers" to determine whether it's possible they're making the whole thing up. Meaning, of course, that they are definitely making the whole thing up, and it's his job to prove it.

Asked why he would subpoena NOAA’s internal emails when their research data is already publicly available , Smith said it’s the only way to sniff out what he says is “biased” data.

“The data is skewed. The data is biased. That’s not good science,” Smith said. “When I see government agencies skewing the data, that makes me very suspicious.”

Rep. Smith, who is not a scientist but plays one on his committee, believes the agencies he oversees would be better served with slashed budgets and a more narrowly tailored directive to just do the cool science stuff , like space travel and stuff. He is also a cosponsor of the Secret Science Reform Act of 2014 , which would protect the nonexistent right of internet trolls to "peer-review" the government's scientific studies, so they can let us know what the voices in their heads have to say aboutthat .

As Smith declared earlier this year, when his party suggested we could save SO MUCH MONEY if we stopped studying, like, anything , "It’s the role of Congress to make sure we’re using limited federal funds for the highest priority research." That's why Smith is spending federal funds to research how Obama and his "scientist" goons are skewing the data on climate change, instead of studying the climate change, because that's money well spent.

We'd say Rep. Lamar Smith is a special kind stupid, but we'd hate to be accused of bias, so we'll just ask whether Rep. Lamar Smith is a special kind of stupid. No harm, no foul.
