No, we don’t have a problem with trigger-happy cops.

Bristol Palin is actually half right about a thing for once! (Relax, she’s still half wrong too.)

On Wednesday, Bristol blogged her disgust and heartbrokenness that police in Marksville, Louisiana, shot a six-year-old autistic boy to death while firing at his father’s car, for no apparent reason. The two officers have been charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder in the Nov. 3 shootings of Jeremy Mardis and his father, 32-year-old Christopher Few. Jeremy was buried on Monday, while his father remained hospitalized with bullet fragments in his lung and brain, and may not yet be aware that his son is dead.

A body camera shows that Few had his hands in the air as the officers fired repeatedly into his SUV. The chief of Louisiana’s state police, Col. Mike Edmonson, said of the video, “it’s the most disturbing thing I’ve seen — and I will leave it at that.”

So good for Bristol! After reading about the story on Yahoo News, she was horrified at the senseless killing of a little boy by police. But she’s also outraged about something else, as the headline on her blog subtly suggests: “Police Kill Autistic Boy for No Reason – Media Yawns, Because Child Wasn’t Black.”

After blockquoting the the story’s details, Bristol’s ghostwriter gets to the real outrage:

Why is this story not all over the media?

If the child had been black, would it have received more acknowledgement?

I wish more people really thought “all lives matter.” The injustice of it all is heart wrenching. Please join me in praying for the family of this sweet little boy and his father.

We think we can help Bristol out here. For one thing, the story is “all over the media.” For Crom’s sake, it was an Associated Press story that was carried by Yahoo; it’s also been covered by the three major networks, CNN, and major papers, and almost every one of the stories features heartbreaking photos of Jeremy and his dad. CBS Evening News featured it prominently Monday night. The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that the FBI is now assisting in the investigation.

But of course, what Bristol’s really asking is why hasn’t there been a wave of protest marches, and why hasn’t Al Sharpton dropped everything to rush to Marksville to hold a vigil with the grieving family and demand accountability? We’re guessing part of the reason is that the two officers, Deputy Ward Marshals Norris Greenhouse Jr. and Derrick Stafford, were arrested Friday, once it became clear their initial account of the shooting was false:

The case raised questions almost immediately. Initial reports suggested the marshals were serving a warrant on Few when the shooting happened, but Louisiana’s state police chief, Col. Mike Edmonson, said there was no evidence a warrant was issued, and no gun was found on the scene.

CBS News added, “Investigators are looking into whether one of the marshals had a personal grudge against Few.”

That’s pretty outrageous, all right, and it’s one more indication that American police are too quick to reach for their guns — although if it turns out this was premeditated, and not merely an officer panicking in what should have been a routine stop, you can bet the story will get far more national attention.

One thing we guarantee is that that if Jeremy Mardis had been black, the Usual Rightwing Media Suspects would be finding all sorts of justifications for the murder, combing through the dead child’s social media and accusing him of being a thug hopped up on jazz music. Especially given that after the cops had chased Few’s SUV to a dead-end, he began backing up — or, as one might say, resisting arrest and causing the police to fear for their lives, leaving them no choice but to shoot. CBS asked Edmonson about that:

When he was asked if it looks like Few was trying to use the vehicle as a weapon to hurt the officers he replied, “Nothing tells us any of that right now. All we saw was the vehicle backing up, all we saw was the gunfire.”

Where are all the Blue Lives Matter protestors screaming that it’s a travesty these two brave officers are being punished simply for defending themselves against a crazed fugitive trying to run them over with his truck? Send your contribution today for your “I am Norris Greenhouse and Derrick Stafford” T-shirt.

Far be it from us to suggest that, if little Jeremy had been black, Bristol Palin might just be one of those insisting that if Chris Few had only pulled over immediately and cooperated with officers’ lawful orders, this regrettable tragedy might have been avoided, and why is the media dragging race into it at all? She might even have asked, “When are we going to look at what KIDS are doing wrong? Instead of instantly blaming police and higher authority?”

Still, we’re happy to see Bristol has finally found an unarmed victim of a police shooting she can let herself feel bad for. It’s a start. Maybe she’ll decide that all lives do matter, even the black ones.

That’s probably the only good thing she’s got going on for her.

Is there proof that Bristle can read? She sure can’t read the package directions on the condom box.

      • Celtic_Gnome

They came into her progressive high school and showed them how to use condoms by rolling one onto a banana. Before having sex, she always dutifully rolls one onto a banana so she can proceed with no worries.

Not too much fact checking Bristol. If you search with the terms [Marksville, Louisiana, shot a six-year-old autistic boy] you get over 2,500 news stories. Nope that is not much coverage.

  • Lizzietish81

We’re being unfair to Bristol. She’s not trying to write about facts, she’s trying to stir up stupid racists who are convinced the blacks, gays, Muslims and Feminists are coming to take their guns and give them all health insurance.

And in that sense, she’s speaking their language.

    • Latverian Diplomat

By “Why is this story not all over the media?” Bristol really meant “all over” as in incessant coverage that drives out all other stories, especially ones where those people of color get to be the victims (so lucky) instead of hard working real America type people.

  • Joe Beese

Word of wisdom: When confronted by Tha Police, *do not give them any excuse to kill you*. While the instant, silent obedience they are screaming for may be racist or some other kind of unfair, you are risking your life for nothing if you do not give it. Swallow the humiliation and live to file a discrimination lawsuit another day.

Yeah, the comments sections on my local news are flooded with morons saying “Hey, where’s Obummer to say something stupid? Not News: Cops shoot people for no reason. News: this time it was an autistic kid they probably couldn’t even see ’cause they were too busy lighting up his dad’s SUV. Fuck: and it may have been because one of the cops had a grudge against his dad.

    • tomamitai

From what I’ve read on the internets, one of the cops was trying to make time with or otherwise bothering the kid’s father’s girlfriend, and he told him to fuck off. The cop, while patrolling around their tiny town apparently saw the guy driving by and decided to go after him. Why the fuck he made up the story about the warrant is beyond me, he should have known that shit like that would be on record.

The video was, if I understand correctly, automatically made by another cop’s dashcam or bodycam when he drove by and got involved in the situation, and the cops who shot were arrested after that video showed that they were lying about the victim trying to hit them with his vehicle.

  • Rick Hill

Someone forward this link to Bristol: Google.com. If she enters a search it will return a few web pages with pertinent information. I’m certain finding a story where a child was killed by gunfire is easy. It may even have a return for white kids killed by cops. Also, and as well, fuck her and everyone who makes arguments that allow children(or anyone) to be killed by cops with barely a yawn for the rights of people but a shiton of outrage for the rights of the gun.

It’s great that Briston didn’t jump to conclusions about how the kid and his dad were thugs that probably deserved to get lit up because they weren’t being appropriately deferential to the police. It would be even better if she didn’t jump to that sort of conclusion regardless of the race of the victims. Just sayin’…

You know who Bristol reminds me of? She reminds me of Joan Rivers talentless daughter Melissa. You remember how Joan kept trying to get Melissa to be a somebody? Same thing with Bristol, except Joan was way more talented than Sarah (although the last decade or so of her life she didn’t show it). I think we need to start a club. The Talentless Hack Children Of Celebrities Who Think They Deserve The Same Club.

Let’s see, Tim Russert’s devil spawn Lukie. Lucienne Goldberg’s numbnutz Jonah. Sarah Palin’s Bristol. Could be a big club that deserves all the mockery we can throw at it.

  • Lance Thrustwell

Oh hell, you don’t even have to speculate that she (and other clueless right-wing fucks) would consider the story differently if the driver and kid were black. While that’s probably true, the more basic point is that the Black Lives Matter folks and their allies are trying to point out a systemic problem affecting an identifiable group. While police overreaction may indeed be a problem that transcends racial patterns, that does not mean that it precludes racial patterns. The Black Lives Matter mission is practical as well as ideological.

Bristol’s failure to understand this is predictable, because she isn’t very smart. But what’s really maddening is when people who really ought to know better are deliberately obtuse about this.

    • Suttree

I believe it’s a matter of deliberately obfuscating for the most part but Ms. Pablum is rather obtuse.

Way to hone in on what is really important with this story, Bristol’s Ghost Writer. The media and black people!

  • Greg Comlish

I noticed this too. It seems like every other week the media has a story about cops murdering innocent black people. Meanwhile there will only be 2 or 3 stories about cops murdering innocent white people all year long. For some reason, the media is inclined to portray blacks as the victims, especially as victims of institutional racism.

    • Redgyal

Yes. Truly one of the greatest mysteries.

    • MikeyArmstrong

If whites didn’t side with cops every time a civilian gets shot, perhaps we’d see more outrage when unarmed white people are shot by police officers.

    • glennisw

You really are dim, aren’t you? The point is that it’s racist when the victim of a police shooting is valued so little the shooting isn’t investigated or prosecuted.

      • Greg Comlish

        Hi,

Some people use sarcasm when writing comments on this website. For instance, my comments were intended to lampoon Bristol Palin. To translate: Bristol doesn’t realize that her perceptions of differential media coverage of white vs black victims of police brutality are actually due to the institutional racism that disproportionately victimizes blacks. It is supremely ironic that the she laments the racial differentiation in media coverage of these incidents, without ever recognizing the racially disproportionate prevalence of the incidents themselves. As with her mother, Bristol has a genetic inability to recognize how anybody else could even be a victim if her last name isn’t Palin.

        Hope that clears everything up!

        – Greg Comlish

        • Boscoe

Sorry Greg, but you’re doing it wrong.

How is he doing it wrong? I, myself, am apt to use a very dry, very understated, let the reader connect the dots themselves posting style when things are so outrageous that screaming is the only other possible reaction.
I’ve only been commenting here for a couple of weeks, and I do like the knock-down, over-the-top firebrands here–I love it so much because I feel so alone with my horror sometimes–and I’d hate to comment in the wrong style. But I’m confused here.

        • there seems to be a lot of this nonsense going around here at wonkette.

  • rocktonsam

so brizdull has time to go all over all the media?

  • Redgyal

Is it just me or has the response to this been unusually quick and decisive? I mean, the arrest happened within days of the shooting. The names and images of the officers have been released. The AG and police are on the same page as far as the desired outcome of the case. People who know the officers are stepping down from the prosecution. And the general response from the comment section is that the shooting was wrong. Even the police are saying that the video shows the victim had his hands up. They even go as far as to say that they suspect foul play. What could possibly be the difference?

    • Boscoe

It’s a mystery! If I were a cynical person, I’d wonder if the law enforcement community had been waiting for just the right shade of cops to throw under the bus. “See? We’re not racist, we kill white people too!”

  • Joe Blunt Ltp

Bristol is the child of a talentless grifter whose time has come and gone. There are many ignorant people in the world. It serves no one to continually elevate the same small clan of useless miscreants into the limelight. The palin clan is best left in the rubbish bin because they will do anything to crawl out and regain some media attention. Please stop giving these people the attention they do not deserve.

I guess it’s easy and tempting to blast ’em full of holes when they’re so reliably and demonstrably wrong. That, and Sarah Palin has earned an extra bit of umbrage for her part in opening the Pandora’s Box that held the Tea Party.

  • Zippy

just go away, Barstool. Don’t you have some neighbor’s lawn you should be drunkenly rolling around on?

    • Land Shark

Isn’t there a cock in Wasilla you haven’t sucked?

    • John B.

Or some neighbor’s husband to be drunkenly rolling around on?

  • janecita

I would love to be able to bitch slap John McCain. We are going to be listening to the white trashy echo of his bad decision for years to come.

  • Train wrecks and the curiosity factor’s supposed to last for no more than a few seconds. It’s been SEVEN FUCKING YEARS. Why are are we still reading Bristol fucking Palin’s blog or care what her brain-dead psycho mother says?

    • Hardly Ideal

For what it’s worth, I don’t give them any attention. At least, nothing beyond hearing the name “Palin” and immediately breaking into a silly song and dance.

  • Portia McGonagal

When is Barstool not mad about a thing?

    • D_C_Wilson

I so want to say “when she’s in the back of a Ford F-150 with her legs in the air,” but that would be tasteless, so I won’t.

      • theCryptofishist

So, you think cars/trucks/vehicles. Well, at least this one was conceived in the summer. (I don’t know and don’t care about the other one, because Agggh! brain cells wasted on Palins.) I just wonder about sex in the winter in a car in Alaska, that’s all.

        • John B.

What’s that warning about sticking your moist tongue to a pole in Alaska?

          • BackDoorMan

… same as the one about sticking your tongue to a moist palin in Alaska? Either way, you’re gonna need to see a doctor.

    • John B.

Probably just tired from taking care of her two little “Love Children”. (Naw, I’m sure she has staff to take care of those two. More likely she hasn’t gotten any lately or is still hung over from the night before…or a combination of both).

  • witsended

Of the 984 people killed by the police up to yesterday in your exceptional country.
    448 White.
    223 Black.
    145 Hispanic/Latino
    17 Asian/ Pacific Islands
    12 Native Americans
    4 Other
    125 unknown.

Of the 18 people under 18 years old killed 16 were shot, 9 were White.4 Black 3 HIspanic. The other 2 were White killed by police cars.

Not a lot of people know this.

    • janecita

      And your point is????

      • witsended

Simples as around 75% of the population is white and 13% black, the ratio of police killings should in a fair society reflect that or at least be close to it.

        • Lizzietish81

“Police killings in a fair society”

First of all, this is terrible and is a red flag.

Second of all, by your own statistics blacks shot by police are HALF of whites shot by police, which, if they only represent 13% of the population indicates that there is a problem.

          • witsended

I just said that the deaths should reflect or come near to reflecting the demographic make up if society was fair.

          • Lizzietish81

Except they don’t. So it’s a doubly stupid comment.

          • witsended

So the fact that Blacks and Hispanic deaths are way out of proportion to the demographic numbers is stupid.

          • glennisw

No it’s pointless in the context of this post. But thanks for playing!

          • Lizzietish81

So you were trying to show that police shootings of blacks really ARE out of proportion by just posting that more whites are killed and making vague assertions like any troll would.

            http://www.threadbombing.com/data/media/30/you_fail.jpg

          • witsended

I made the mistake of thinking that something so skewed would be obvious to anyone with a half brain .

          • Lizzietish81
          • witsended

‘This ain’t gettin the babby a frock and pinny’

          • grageo

Um, not really. It seems that your arguments are trying to make the exact same points to be inferred from his posts.

    • MikeyArmstrong

When are you going to start your protest movement?

      • witsended

Try looking at the figures and then compare them to the demographic makeup of the USA. Does anything strike you as odd?

    • Lizzietish81

Also this doesn’t cover whether or not the officer was punished or even charged.

      • witsended

Of the nineteen killed between the 1st January to the 7th,
        1 reprimanded.
        1 charged.
        7 under investigation still

    • YayConspiracy

That is more than 3 people killed every day. It underlines that police violence is a problem (and as Lizzie pointed out below, non-whites more likely to be a victim than whites; that is another problem).

    • bobbert

FWIW, I assume your intent is to point out the disparity in death rates between white and (mostly) black people. Evidently, not everyone shares my assumption.

      • witsended

It was also to point the massive number of deaths in less than a year.
The figure on those seriously injured but not killed would be interesting to know.
The states where by population numbers you are most likely to be killed by police are,
        1 Oklahoma
        2 New Mexico
        3 Wyoming.
        Safest.
        1 Vermont.
        2 Maine.
        3 Rhode Island.

  • TheBidenator

Barstool is just mad that no one is protesting Al Sharpton, Black Lives Matter and Obama for being responsible for this shooting by riling up blah cops or something. I dunno what the hell it is that she’s looking for- the cops have been immediately arrested, there wasn’t some BS grand jury convened to make it APPEAR as though they were weighing the evidence when just about every attorney I saw interviewed said it was clearly a farce and was a legal excuse to clear Wilson. I mean seriously, Barstool what the hell is it that you want? These cops are likely to go to jail for several years they aren’t on the right wing pity circuit making money nor did they get away with murdering a child like George Zimmerman did. Also, did Freddy Gray’s killers get arrested immediately? Hell the cops had video of some blues tasering a black guy to death and they’ve sat on it for three years…

  • Iam Reading

Hypocrite gifter know nothing do nothing brat says what?

  • mardam422

Poor Barstool. She just can’t understand why no one is protesting that the cops involved have been arrested for murder, since they apparently murdered someone…or something. I just can’t follow her logic. And for that, I’m eternally grateful. Also.

    • glennisw

They really don’t get it, do they? It’s all tribal for them.

  • Jeff Mc Donald

There is probably a good explanation for this that we haven’t thought of yet. The guy who is responsible for the news getting to Alaska may have been held up by weather, or a starving polar bear, or rednecks that don’t like the news. Bristol could be having some sort of hormone thingy that pregnant women get…?. OK, I’ll admit stupid is the most likely explanation, but until we hear from grizzly mom, nothing should be taken for granted.

    • glennisw

I thought her Momma said we libruls all thought they didn’t get the news up there in Alaska, cause Katie had the audacity to ask her what she reads. But it looks like Bristol can’t get any news.

  • JohnR

On one hand I embarrassingly enjoy reading about the idiocy of the Palins. On the other hand I fear we are encouraging them and raising their profiles (and income) by paying attention to them. What to do?

  • YayConspiracy

Bristol, you hypocrite, go fuck yourself (and just for your information: you cannot get pregnant that way).

    • Mintie

No, but it does make Jeebus cry.

      • theCryptofishist

I think Bristol makes Jeebus cry, regardless.

  • Brewerofbeers

“Maybe she’ll decide that all lives do matter, even the black ones.”

    Mic Drop.

  • Sgt. Gym Bunny

The story isn’t all over the media????

Ummm… I’ve spent the past week in a cherry Nyquil-and-vodka stupor (and offline), and even I managed to hear about it. Bristol is the embarrassing kind of stupid who thinks she’s discovered a totally new concept in last week’s headline.

    • Celtic_Gnome

Well, her mom got all outraged about stuff that was two months’ old, so maybe it’s genetic.

  • D_C_Wilson

Brillcream’s ghostblogger strikes another blow for imaginary media persecution of whites. #WLM.

    • The hard-right are becoming out and out white-nationalists, aka Nazis, now, aren’t they? The narrative in the Rodney King era was “the unruly blacks are out of control”, now it’s “the blacks are taken over and WE are the minority now”.

  • Wee Mousie

If the child had been black, the chief of police probably would have given the two cops marksmanship badges.

When cops do crazy shit and pay for it, the system is working, When cops do crazy shit and get away with it, people got to shout and protest. Cops have been doing so much crazy shit recently, most people are hoarse.

  • Remember when the cop who shot 12-year-old Tamir Rice in Ohio in cold blood was indicted? OH WAIT, HE WASN’T.

  • grageo

You know what I wish, Bristol? I wish that attention whores like yourself would refrain from exploiting a child’s murder to further your racist “What about us white people” agenda.

  • Lambsendbeds

I read the disgusting comments posted after the story was first reported before the officer’s accounts proved to be false and guess what – Yr Wonkette was right ! Most of the commenters blamed the father for not cooperating and putting his son in danger in the first place. Besides, Bristol – why the sad face? Isn’t that little boy in heaven with Jebus ? Shouldn’t his family be rejoicing ? I thought that’s what your family believes.

  • so bristol palin is the gwennie of the white trash set? good to know.

    • Antimassacree

perhaps she could rename her blog ‘goof’ or even ‘goober’.

  • Celtic_Gnome

And the conservative universe collectively came when they realized they had a cop shooting of an unarmed white kid. The levels of every body of water in the United States rose with the addition of all the splooge.

  • Biel_ze_Bubba

Maybe Gristle should read a newspaper or two. Doesn’t even have to be all of them.

    • Blerg

Pretty sure she can’t read. Too busy makin’ babies for Jeebus.

      • Odd Jørgensen

While staying abstinent, and if that don`t cunt as a miracle, what does?

  • D Johnson

Why in god’s name do the Palins warrant this kind of coverage? Who cares what they think?

  • GarColga

For the millionth time, Bristol does not write that blog! The notion that this dull, incurious woman has anything more than a dim awareness of current events is laughable.

  • Thomas Mc

Having yet another bastard in the oven is making her cranky.
