Ben Carson Will Not Have A Muslim President Smearing Sharia On His Constitution

For Ben Carson, it's Raptor Jesus or nothing

In the continuing nationwide Derp Wave unleashed by the idiot who asked what Donald Trump will do about America's Muslim Problem, Ben Carson at least gave a more definite answer than Trump did. Pity that it was kind of evil. Appearing on NBC's "Meet the Press" Sunday, Carson explained that a president's religion should be a good, decent faith that's OK with the Constitution, which obviously Islam isn't:

Asked by host Chuck Todd if a president's faith should matter to voters, Carson confidently replied that he understands exactly what Article VI, paragraph 3 of the Constitution means:

CARSON: I guess it depends on what that faith is. If it’s inconsistent with the values and principles of America, then of course it should matter. But if it fits within the realm of America and consistent with the Constitution, no problem.

TODD: So do you believe that Islam is consistent with the Constitution?

CARSON: No, I don't, I do not [...]

I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation. I absolutely would not agree with that.

Well, then! Looks like Ben Carson knows his Constitution real good! But maybe he's not calling for an actual religious test; he just means that Muslims are unconstitutional and un-American and not to be trusted, and voters should not choose one for president, which is exactly the kind of thing you want a national leader to be say about an entire religion. If you're a fucking bigot.

Carson further explained to The Hill why we simply can't have a Muslim in the White House:

“I do not believe Sharia is consistent with the Constitution of this country,” Carson said, referencing the Islamic law derived from the Koran and traditions of Islam. “Muslims feel that their religion is very much a part of your public life and what you do as a public official, and that’s inconsistent with our principles and our Constitution.”

We suppose he meant that it might lead Muslims to place themselves above the law and declare that they wouldn't comply with legal court orders, stuff like that.

That doesn't mean Carson would exclude Muslims from all government offices. He'd simply limit them to positions where they can't cause too much mischief. When Todd asked him if he'd ever vote for a Muslim in Congress, Carson was way more open-minded!

Congress is a different story, but it depends on who that Muslim is and what their policies are, just as it depends on what anybody else says, you know. And, you know, if there's somebody who's of any faith, but they say things, and their life has been consistent with things that will elevate this nation and make it possible for everybody to succeed, and bring peace and harmony, then I'm with them.

By golly, that's practically a chorus of Kumbayah, isn't it? To qualify for office (but not the Oval Office kind), Carson said all Muslims need to do is make clear that they've “publicly rejected all the tenants [sic] of Sharia and lived a life consistent with that.” We're not sure whether that tenet/tenant mixup is Carson's or The Hill's, but either way, Carson sounds a bit like Bobby Jindal:  He's fine with Muslims, as long as they reject Islam. (Do we need to note that Muslims evendisagree on what Sharia is? Yes, we probably do.)

 Unlike Trump, and a majority of the Republican Party, Carson is at least willing to accept that Barack Obama is who he says he is. Asked by Chuck Todd whether he thinks Obama was born in the USA and is actually a Christian, Carson said, "I believe that he is. I have no reason to doubt what he says."

But the whole question is moot, Carson explained, since no Muslims are running for president in 2016 -- that we know of. He accused the mean old media of asking nasty "gotcha" questions just to trip up Republicans and make them look stupid, as if the candidates needed help. Even so, Carson thought maybe some good could come out of the discussion if it increases Americans' fear of those scary Muslims:

However, he acknowledged the question “served a useful purpose by providing the opportunity to talk about what Sharia is and what their goals are.”

“So often we get into these irrelevant things, because obviously if a Muslim was running for president, there would be a lot more education about Sharia, about Taqiyya," Carson said.

Oh, no, it's that darn "Taqiyya" again, which means that you can never trust anything a Muslim says to an infidel about their faith. So much for the ones who might reject Sharia so they can hold office. We certainly wouldn't want anyone with a propensity to lie trying to get elected.
