Oh, DJ Tanner, how far you have fallen from your “Full House” days, when you were just an annoying teenager with a hot brother. Now your still-hot brother Kirk Cameron is creationist DSM-IV material, and you’re on “The View” for some fucking reason, using your “real name” Candace Cameron Bure, and oh look, you’re getting pretty good at being just as much of a blithering idiot as he is:

The View’s Candace Cameron Bure continued defending anti-gay bakeries that discriminate against gay consumers in an interview with HuffPo Live this week, where she claimed the right to discriminate based on sexual orientation is “what makes our country so wonderful.” […]

“It’s about first amendment rights. We do have the right to still choose who we associate with,” she said, invoking the baseless “religious freedom” argument and facing backlash almost immediately from co-host Raven-Symoné.

DJ Tanner vs. little Olivia from “The Cosby Show,” it’s the cage fight you never knew you didn’t want to see.

Anyway, Cameron Bure says she totally meant those horrible things she said about how gay-hating is what makes America great, even more than apple pie, blowjobs or being kinky and submissive for your Jesus-loving hockey-playing husband, and she expounds further, because we obviously need to know more of her thoughts:

“I’ll always fight for religious freedoms, but I think people misunderstand that when you do fight for religious freedom, in that particular case, it doesn’t mean that I personally would always respond the way the people in the case are responding.” […]

“If something, you know, conflicts with someone’s deeply held religious beliefs, we should have the freedom to not have to deal with that or be associated with it. Just as on the opposite side, they don’t have to either. It’s, again, what makes our country so wonderful.”

Wonkette reached out to the rest of the “Full House” cast for their opinions and received the following responses:

michelle2

And then Danny Tanner got the girls together for a family chat about how doing unto others is something DJ doesn’t seem to have read about much IN HER FUCKING BIBLE, and Uncle Jesse played a new song he wrote and said “Have mercy,” and Candace Cameron Bure was never seen on our screens again, we wish.

When I encounter evangelical wingnuts who blither on about how the local community should be able to express their dominant religious beliefs and make local government and schools reflect those beliefs, I usually offer to support their idea if they will participate in a test run before it gets rolled out to the country at large. They usually seem so keen…but oddly enough, when they find out that the test run requires them to live in certain neighborhoods in Dearborn, Michigan, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, or Jackson Heights, Queens, they lose their enthusiasm for the project.

      • Catstro

Sort of. I think she had a “love the sinner, hate the sin” attitude. Here’s a piece from our local independent newsrag from when she called drag bingo at the Durham Armory. Granted, it was written 5 years before her death, and I genuinely think that her views would have evolved were she still alive (she died in 2007, which was a billion years ago in gay rights), but it sounds like the relationship was always “it’s complicated”. Still, she did an awful lot for AIDS awareness and fundraising.

Cut it out! Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen may not be returning for Netflix’s Fuller House spinoff, but that doesn’t mean Michelle will be totally left out of the Tanner family fun. Though the spinoff doesn’t begin filming until next month, series costar Jodie Sweetin (Stephanie Tanner) told Us Weekly that the family’s beloved little sister will be brought up on the show.

It is religious freedom that makes this country great. As a Druid, well actually a Reformed Druid, I believe I have the right to not sell flowers to anyone. Furthermore, I reserve the right to invade your weddings and rescue the flower arrangements and centerpieces that you have so callously strewn about your wedding halls.

While an Orthodox Dru worships all of nature we reformed Druids worship potted plants and shrubbery. Yet, you heathens ignore our heartfelt beliefs and use our Gods for shallow decoration. I cannot stand by while gays and straights alike imprison and kill my deities. How would you Christians feel if we gave away tiny crucified Jesuses as party favors or decorated our halls with smartly arranged bouquets of saints? We will not stand idle any longer!

    You have been warned.

This article made me feel a lot better because it caused me to look up Mrs. Cameron Bure on Wikipedia, where I realized that she was not, in fact, married to Hockey Hall of Famer Pavel Bure as I had previously believed, but his useless little brother Valeri.

    • Mintie

It’s why the D-List was invented.

    • CharredBarn

Because a woman’s worth depends on her husband’s. Got it.

      • Pinball or Submission

Get some reading comprehension please. I had clearly already come to a conclusion on Mrs. Cameron Bure’s (lack of) worth on her own merits, based on her history of bigotry, as detailed on this blog. My comment was meant merely to express relief at not having to lower my opinion of an all-time hockey great due to a mistaken belief that he had married such a terrible bigot.

        • CharredBarn

Oh, well. That’s a lot of added stuff I was supposed to “read” in your first comment despite the fact that it didn’t exist there, and I’m not a mind-reader. Clearly it’s your writing comprehension that’s lacking.

        • CharredBarn

And by the way, if you think the hockey industry and its stars are terribly worried about racial issues, I suggest you look deeper into the racial makeup of hockey teams, dumbass.

  • Teto85

She’s just as much of a religious nut job as her brother, just quiet about it.

  • yaymccheeks

Oh, so she’s not a bigot, she’s just stupid. Which begs the question; “why do we give so many stupid people so much air time?” Is it just because it’s more fun to watch? Are they less expensive to hire than smart people? Have we run out of smart people already?

    • fka_donnie_d

All of the above. Smart people are more or less predictable which makes for bad TV

      • Actually I think it’s the opposite. Dumb people are easier to steer in the direction unscrupulous producers and station owners want. Smart people are not only more likely to go “off-script”, but question why the script is needed in the first place. Which is why they tend to end up in that oh-so dangerous edumacational field (which BY SHEER COINCIDENCE is a field that SMRT Republicans are often dedicated toward defunding.)

        • MountainMan

I had Profs blaming the military for Vietnam as well as a Astronomy Prof that couldn’t wrap his head around the fact that when your looking at the stars your seeing at a minimum something that is four years in the past. There’s a reason for the comment that those that can, do, and those that can’t, teach. Just because you have a degree doesn’t mean your smart or for that mater, wise. As far as defunding education, in ten years my states education budget went up 1000% and test scores went down, down, down. I’m guessing your solution to the problem would be to throw more money at the school system.

          • “I’m guessing your solution to the problem would be to throw more money at the school system.”

Every lobbyist and CEO just burst out laughing.

          • MountainMan

When I was in school we had far less money going to schools and scored far higher on the aptitude tests scores. (the US spends more on education per student than any other country in the world) So my generation was smarter than the current generation or the money is being wasted by schools. Take your pick. As far as the colleges go. When the feds increase student loans the cost per credit goes up. It’s basic capitalism. There are only so many seats in the class rooms. When you increase the number of customers (aka increased demand) for a product without increasing production the price for the product goes up. I saw tuition rates increase by 300% when I was college for this very reason. End result. same number of kids got their degrees, it just cost them three times as much. You really don’t understand how business works. Businesses constantly strive to get the cost of production down so their profit is higher, not the other way around. If you were taught otherwise you got ripped off.

  • Oh, shameless plug for someone else’s project, there’s a blog that snarkily reviewed every episode of “Full House”. It’s coming back for the Netflix sequel series/reboot/whatthehellever too.

  • Justin Kredibel

Discrimination is what makes our country “so wonderful”?
    That’s a vapid sick person.

  • The View’s Candace Cameron Bure continued defending anti-gay bakeries that discriminate against gay consumers in an interview with HuffPo Live this week, where she claimed the right to discriminate based on sexual orientation is “what makes our country so wonderful.”

That’s why Uganda is the envy of the world!

still-hot brother Kirk Cameron. please do not refer to this viciously reprehensible meat bag full of santorum as hot. maybe if your definition of hot means slow roasting in hell, then that’s ok.

Obviously, Candy’s intelligence is only over shadowed by her Emmy winning acting talent…….huh, what?……never won any awards?…………..oh, NEVER MIND……………

    • JudeLawGuardian

      Good one. ;)

  • Platos_Redhaired_Stepchild

The weird thing is that Andrea Barber (aka Kimmy Gibbler) is the anti-Cameron and they have remained friends over the years.

  • jillrudisill

Candace has that right to feel how she wants and to have her own opinion on any view the same as anyone else, she just chose to exercise that right so people should deal with it. We are all different and not many of us think a like and that is just the way it is. Raven-Symone needs to deal with it we all have opinions and the right to express those rights rather she agrees with Candace or not. If memory serves me right it took a while to publically admit her sexuality so what’s up with that? She is no different and just because she happens to be African-American and gay does not make her different or more special then anyone else. Let it go! What is the difference if Candace is white and very religious and Raven-Symone is black and very gay???? I will tell you nothing there is no difference just different life styles and two different people it doesn’t matter they have their owns views and that is the way it is.

    • zuzu

She can (and did) express her opinion. That doesn’t mean she can’t be criticized for it, or that Raven-Symone can’t express her own opinion.

      See how that works?

    • Shellie

      I totally agree with you!

      • Derek Pryor

You’re BOTH idiots. Raven was right on in calling out her BS.

        • Shellie

Well, since this is all a matter of opinions…I guess this makes you an idiot as well. Welcome to the club?

        • vandalii

The left is all for diverse thinking until you don’t agree with them. Then comes the sh@tstorm from “tolerant” folks like Derek.

  • “We do have the right to still choose who we associate with,” she said…

She’s right…and this is how that works. When you choose to open up a business to the public the public is who you chose to associate with…that includes the gay public.

    • vandalii

…and when they ask/demand a service for a specific rite that by its very nature is to be for one man and one woman, and their expression of that rite would clearly offend God, one should be allowed to say “no”. In fact, society should defend that right rather than punish it. This wasn’t a cupcake they were asking for, it was for their play-acting of a sacrament set aside by God for His good pleasure and our fulfillment in heterosexual, monogamous marriage, not some “pinky-swear” between two sexually incompatible individuals.

      • Sounds to me like you want to force people that don’t share your religious beliefs to live by your religious laws.

        No, thank you.

If you don’t want the state to use the word “marriage,” I will gladly join you to petition the state to replace marriage with another word.

Religion can have the word and state can use “civil union” or “domestic partnership” but it will be the same certificate/contract for everyone and only available through the court houses with clergy (and non-state officials) no longer having the power to officiate.

I will happily support only churches performing marriage much like they do baptisms with neither having any state affiliation.

But it won’t solve your problem…Not all churches share your belief and gays would still be getting “married” even if it had no state function.

        • vandalii

Umm, not at all. Not sure what post you read, but it certainly was not mine.

I suggest people be allowed to decline to offend God. There’s nothing in what I said that forces anyone to do anything. Quite the opposite. My argument is the service provider *not* be forced to provide service so obviously contrary to their belief.

Don’t know how you got to, “Sounds to me like you want to force people that don’t share your religious beliefs to live by your religious laws” from my post.

          • Laryagar

You do realize the difference between a religious sacrament and civil contract. Does not matter the trappings involved, if the ceremony is not performed by a duly appointed representative of a given religion then it is not a sacrament being performed. I do paraphrase this but I recall in the Bible a reference to rendering unto Caesar Caesar’s and God God’s. This was in relation to money at the time but it signifies keeping what you owe God and what you owe Man separate. A business is regulated by the government that represents the public, all of the public. In the laws discrimination is not legal so what you do in private does not matter but when dealing with the public you come under the law. Yes, you can declare a level of acceptance in your place of business, but that is how people conduct themselves while in your establishment not what they do at home. You can require a reasonable dress code for customers and forms of behavior that falls within legal standards. What you cannot do is discriminate based on personal beliefs.

      • JudeLawGuardian

Bet they’re a lot more sexually compatible than you and whatever you’re screwing…

        • vandalii

Wow, that’s a really pithy reply to a reasoned explanation. You must be one of the civil-discourse-phobics I’ve heard haunts the blogsphere.

  • Caroline Ridge

As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses I can tell you we would never have that kind of approach towards anyone. Our creator Jehovah &;his son Jesus Christ promoted love. Encouraged teaching people what it says about not only homosexuality, but fornication, adultery, drunkards, how to treat your parents. The only thing I can PARTIALLY agree with is everyone has a choice who to associate with. The bible does say “Bad association spoils useful habits”. Anyone wanting to live by bible principles would associate themselves with people of like mind but treat their fellow man with love no matter what. I would never not go to a bakery or restaurant or store if I found out the people were gay. Conversations can be started about the bible & people if they want to can change. http://www.jw.org

  • Mr_Mir

Why should they have to cater to mentally ill delusions. Should they be required to place doors randomly on the second floor for those who think they can fly? or justr wait until pop culture and junk science say those people really can fly.

  • vandalii

Wow, now THERE’S a prime example of “tolerance” from the left! “tolerance for thee, not so for me”

  • Texasbear

Who really cares what this washed up child star has to say. She’ll rot in hell along with her nut job brother. He single handly ruined the original show. Dosent anyone who claims to be Christian realize that “Judgement” is a sin as well.

I hope she has a gay kid, but apparently she is swallowing them all. Maybe she should put her hatred where it should be , towards hippocrits like herself.

  • CamAssassin

I’m not antigay. If thats your thing then do it but but don’t force me to live life like you do . As for for make some one make you a weddiing cake because your gay IS BULL SHIT, A business owner should have the right to refuse any business they don’t feel comfotable with. So be a man or woman about and go find some one to make your stupid cake. There are other bakerys out there. You only when there cause you knew they would refuse to make it so you could act like little bitches. And think you won some thing.
You didn’t win anything except loking like a spoiled BRAT!!

    • Odd Jørgensen

      //I’m not antigay//

      Just anti grammar?

  • Magic Juan

More than a little ridiculous that someone is brought on a talk show as if their opinion is some kind of great revelation just because they started in a TV show when they were a child.

  • Jenny

She has a right to her opinion but she appears to be amongst a group of people who call themselves Christian but cherry pick the Bible. How can people ignore Love one another and treat others like they wanted to be treated. Many people quote from the old Testament where it is called an abomination yet fail to mention in the exact same chapter eating shell fish is called an abomination. I wonder if she eats shrimp or lobster?. The old Testament also says not to judge others. God is the only judge. The new testament also says it is wrong to lay with a man if you are a man etc. And it says to love one another. If we believe in Jesus we go to heaven. Yet Candace seems to judge and feel like she knows who is going to heaven. I have lost respect for her and will not watch her new show. I do not want my grandchildren influenced by someone judgmental and that have hare in their hearts
