Amy Schumer Says Mass Shootings Somehow Involve Guns, Guess She Hates America

Last week, Sarah Clements, a gun control activist and daughter of a Sandy Hook survivor, wrote an open letter to Amy Schumer, asking her to step up and speak out to try to do SOMETHING about our uniquely American problem with mass shootings, after one of the Lone Wolves from the Lone Wolf Club murdered two innocent women and injured nine othersat a screening of Schumer's "Trainwreck" in Lafayette, Louisiana. Schumer saw the letter and responded on Twitter:

Apparently she was not kidding about being "on it," which is good, because Amy Schumer is a Known Kidder. Schumer appeared in a press conference Monday with her cousin Sen. Chuck Schumer (there is a fun trivia fact for you, that they are cousins!) to announce a bill that could be a good, if tiny, first step toward addressing our massive gun violence problem, if the NRA doesn't murder it in its sleep, with a gun:

The proposed legislation, which the two presented at a news conference Monday, would reward states that submit information to the background-check system and penalize states that don't comply.

During a July screening of Amy Schumer's film "Trainwreck" at a movie theater in Lafayette, Louisiana, John Houser shot 11 people, killing two women before eventually turning the gun on himself. He legally purchased the gun he used at a pawn shop.

A visibly emotional Schumer said, "These shootings have got to stop. I don't know how else to say it. Maybe the worst part about all this is that there is a common sense way to stop mass shootings." Ooh, wonder what it is!

She talked about the victims, Jillian Johnson and Mayci Breaux, and said she doesn't know why the shooter, whom she refused to name, picked her movie as the scene for his murderous plan, but she said that regardless, he "shouldn't have been able to put his hands on a gun in the first place." And she's right! Remember how the shooter's wife had removed all the guns from their home, due to how she was worried about his mental state? He sure was able to find him a new one, though!

 NBC gives more detail on the legislation proposed by the Schumers Chuck and Amy:

They also want the Justice Department to survey states and find out which have the best standards for involuntary commitment to mental health facilities, and they want Congress to restore proposed cuts to mental health programs.

"These are not extreme ideas," Amy Schumer said. "No one wants to live in a country where a felon, the mentally ill or other dangerous people can get their hands on a gun with such ease."

AS IF, Schumer family. That's like, what we DO in America. We have an "isolated incident," where some motherfucker with a gun decides, for some reason, to murder folks, and then the next day, we have another "isolated incident," and none of them are related, because guns are NEVER the problem. Pay no attention to dirty liberals who say things like, "But didn't Australia ban guns, which led to across-the-board decreases in gun violence and suicide, and also they haven't had a mass shooting since before the gun ban?" They are not True Americans, because they don't understand the thing about the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is with a good guy with a gun, even if it's in a dark movie theater and you can't see your hand in front of you. Also, a True American would never even THINK the words, "But if there weren't all those guns in the first place ..."

Anyway, of course guns are the fucking problem, or at least the biggest one, end of story. Maybe with somebody as high profile and smart and  funny and just generally cool as Amy Schumer speaking up, we might be able to make some progress on this issue.

Or maybe we'll just keep being America and suck that NRA dick raw like we always do and wait for some more bodies to pile up. Whatever.
