time to panic

Four people were murdered, and another three injured, at two military sites in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on Thursday, by a man identified by the FBI as Mohammod Youssuf Abdulazeez. The FBI cautioned that “it would be premature to speculate on the motives of the shooter at this time,” but come ON, just look at that name, would ya? What more do you need to know?

The New York Times reports that the FBI “had not been investigating Mr. Abdulazeez before Thursday’s shooting, and law enforcement officials said they had not known of any plans for attacks” in Chattanooga. Nonetheless, the Usual Crowd knows that it’s time for some more War on Radical Islam — why do we need to bother with “investigations” and “details” when we know that All The Muslims did it? Rage-fueled angerharpy Michelle Malkin didn’t even like Barack Obama’s expression of sympathy for the victims’ families, apparently because the president didn’t immediately nuke Syria, or Iraq, or whoever we need to nuke:

malkin chattanooga tweet

Terrorism, probably, but an act of war? By what country? The killer was a naturalized American citizen who was originally from Kuwait, so which of those countries do we attack? Yes, yes, we know, the bad guy is Radical Islam, but there’s no country with that name. Stupid Man on the Internet Jim Hoft knows who we need to bomb: Arizona.

hoft chattanooga 3

The two Islamist idiots who were killed trying to attack that “Draw Mohammed Contest” in Texas were also from Arizona, so we suppose it’s only a matter of time until some heroes try to burn down the Phoenix mosque, for America. We won’t be surprised if shy publicity-seeker Jon Ritzheimer is reluctantly forced to hold another armed peaceful protest.

One possible problem with Hoft’s detective work, of course, is that, as in any developing story, some things turn out not to be true. An hour after the story screen-capped above, the link saying that Abdulazeez “is from Arizona” went to a corrected story saying he’s from Hixon, Tennessee.

Hoft updated the post to take “Arizona” out of the headline, but left the inaccurate link in the text. Couldn’t hurt to protest in Phoenix anyway.

hoft chattanooga 4

Also, if you needed any proof that this was an ISIS attack, Hoft points out that an Islamist Twitter account (now suspended) appeared to take credit for the shootings:

hoft chattanooga 2

Of course, after any attack, it’s not unusual for multiple terrorist groups to claim responsibility, or, more commonly, for no claim to be made at all.

The Islamic Society of Greater Chattanooga issued a statement saying, “We condemn this act in the strongest possible terms as one of cowardice and hate.” This will not, of course, satisfy any of the usual idiots, who will say that Muslims never condemn such attacks, or if they do, they’re lying.

Eventually we’ll learn more about Mohammod Youssuf Abdulazeez, but one thing is certain: Barack Obama made this happen by being a weakling, at least during those moments when he’s not an absolute tyrant, as Breitbart’s professional ragehole-at-large Ben Shapiro helpfully points out:

shapiro chattanooga tweet

And Breitbart editor Joel Pollak knows, just knows, that because Obama is just covering up the truth, rather than waiting until all the facts are in:

What a dumbass — calling the murders of four Marines “heartbreaking.” That just encourages more terrorism. Maybe Obama should call for a crusade instead.

On somebody, somewhere.

I’m beginning to think that the more these ignorant ragemonkeys howl and foam at the mouth, the better off we are – nobody but the already-hopeless 25% can possibly take them seriously.

    • AntiDerpomeme

I agree. It’s just all derpy white (har!) noise at this point.

  • Spotts1701

*sigh* They are so damn predictable it’s sad.

  • dslindc

I had someone on Twitter try to tell me that gun control is the problem because one of the sites had a “Gun Free Zone” sign in the window. There is just so much stupid out there these days.

    • Relativicus

The stupid was always there. The Internet has stolen our collective ability to be ignorant of it.

      • DemmeFatale

And they can find each other, to share the stupid.

    • FauxAntocles

Close but wrong – gun control might have kept this bastard from getting a gun in the first place.

  • Relativicus

“What a dumbass — calling the murders of four Marines “heartbreaking.” That just encourages more terrorism. Maybe Obama should call for a crusade instead.”

Or, at the least, a rash of instances whereby extremist Muslims romantically sweep Americans off their feet, then never call them again.

    • AntiDerpomeme

You might be on to something there. We all know Michelle Milkman is a hateful, bitter screech-buzzard (buzzard liable!), but maybe the reason is that she’s been stood up too many times? It would be irresponsible not to speculate that she tried to get Bamz’s digits and he totes dissed her.

  • jviscont1

with the evolution of guns, is it time to rename 2A to the 11 Rounds per Second Amendment?

  • AntiDerpomeme

I’m just noting that the same group of idiots that thinks that it’s always too early to have an objective conversation about moderate gun control after a mass shooting wants to waste no time whatsoever in blaming and punishing Muslims before all of the facts are in.

    • Msgr_Moment

      Muslim control >> gun control

  • FNMA

I thought the US American military was invading Texas this week. I guess they can get to Arizona after mopping things up.

    • Msgr_Moment

And here I thought AZ was leaning “friendly”. Now I’m very worried about the bad guys getting their hands on Los Alamos and Sandia nextdoor.

      • alwayspunkindrublic

Accuse anyone in AZ of “leaning friendly” and there’ll be hell to pay, libtard.

  • freakishlystrong

So, indict all Muslims for this, but that Root fella is a “lone wolf”. One is domestic terrorism, one isn’t .
Hmmm..so, shall we gin up a war on…Tennessee?

    • Dudleydidwrong

If we bomb Tennessee back to the Stone Age, will anyone know?

      • lesterthegiantape

        six bombs ‘ll do ‘er.

    • I love* how when the shooter has an Arabic name, it’s obvious that it’s an “act of war” by international “terrorists,” but when the shooter is a white guy who makes a point of saying he plans to kill black people because they are black, we’re baffled by what his motives could possibly have been.

*And by “love,” I mean: it drives me to drink early in the morning. Well, earlier, at any rate.

      • Thatsitfor Theotherwon

At least you have a reason for early drinking.

        • anniegetyerfun

Today, we all have reasons for early drinking.

      • alwayspunkindrublic

I’m only half-Mexican, but I guarantee you, when any person of color hears about a mass killing, one of their first thoughts is, “I hope the shooter isn’t one of ours”. It’s a sad thing to admit.

        • Dee Andee

Sad, but understandable, given certain people’s need to immediately scapegoat anyone from that group.

        • IndianaKevin

What does it say about us that we white people don’t feel that?

        • jmk

I sometimes have a similar “I hope this guy never got within a million miles of being an atheist or it will all be our fault” thought.

I’ve been told so often that every single mass killer in history was “really an atheist” that I’ve developed a twitch.

          • alwayspunkindrublic

            They’re not??

          • jmk

You haven’t fully lived life until you’ve had a fundie explain to you that atheists are against gawd, and are only atheists because we want to sin and anyone who commits a crime is not a TrueChristian ™ but is going against the laaaard, and therefore, everyone who commits any kind of crime anywhere is just really an atheist who worships Satan.

          • alwayspunkindrublic

I’m Catholic myself, believe it or not. Obviously, I don’t have a problem with atheists, being a Wonkette type and all. Plus, I’ve never met an atheist that felt any need to get real finger waggy and pushy about their beliefs, or lack of.

          • jmk

Well… I have to admit that some of our more excitable internet brethren and sistren have been known to deserve the mockingish title “fundie atheists” for their ignorant combativeness, but as loud as they are, they’re not representative, and most of us try to live as quietly as we can, if only to avoid the lectures and worse we often get when we come out.

I grew up Catholic…on the whole, my still-Catholic family members are pretty cool with us atheists. It’s the evangelical, Protestant born-agains who give us the most grief.

          • alwayspunkindrublic

Yep. The fundies are none too fond of Catholics either, esp. us irksome social justice types. Been some dark years, but Pope Francis has provided some rays of hope. Happy athe-issing…or something!

          • jmk

            Happy Cathing!!!

          • Gristle McThornbody

I’ve also been told that I am religious, but just don’t accept or realize it, by people who have gotten to know me and realize I have morals, a conscience, and suffer from an overabundance of empathy. Makes me want to punt them in the crotch.

          • jmk

            Hear hear!!

I’ve had the same experience… “oh, but you just don’t realize…!!”

I then usually explain the meaning of the term “confirmation bias.”

          • HogeyeGrex

You can also tell them that you have your own moral compass, thank you, and don’t need to farm the work out.

          • jmk

Oh then they usually go on about how gaawwwd is directing my steps whether I know it or not, and the only reason I have morals is because gaaawwwd put them in my heart, or my mother brought me up Christian or some such bullshit.

Forty years as an atheist has taught me that there is nothing you can say to these fuckers that they’ll actually hear.

You really shouldn’t publicly call your county’s duly elected leader leader a fool if you want to maintain any shred of journalistic integrity. You also really shouldn’t publicly call your county’s duly elected leader leader a fool if you don’t know the difference between “systemic” and “systematic.”

    • Adam Pack

The ‘systemic’ thing was really bothering me, as well. I know it’s not the derpiest part of the rightist reaction, but seriously, learn English or piss off back to Russia, Malkin (or wherever the Malkin family originate. It doesn’t sound like a Navajo name).

      • nmmagyar

FWIW she’s from Philly, so we can’t send her anywhere

        • Adam Pack

In that case, could she stay there? Quietly?

        • Spotts1701

What, we can’t send her to Cleveland?

        • AnOuthouse

She was anchor babied by her folks from wherever they came from. Was there a serious lead paint problem in Philly when she was young?

          • nmmagyar

Probably not – she comes from a well educated/wealthy family (her dad’s an MD). It’s just a combination of sheer luck and determination that makes her such an odious piece of shit.

        • stevola

My first car was a Corvair. Only car I ever loved. It worked no matter how cold or hot it was. Handled well. Looked nice. The downside, in retrospect, is that if I had hit that overpass abutment that I narrowly missed when I spun out on an oil slick that one time, I would be blogging you from a graveyard.

          • mtn_philosoph

Hitting a bridge abutment at highway speed in anything but a truck trailer full of bubble wrap tends to have that result.

          • Mehmeisterjr

    • “SEE IRAQ CITY!”

      • Amy!

Took me a minute. Those signs are still on barn and outbuilding roofs visible from the fun windy roads in East Tennessee.

        • Mehmeisterjr

Can you explain it for us non-East Tennesseeans?

          • Amy!

Rock City. The article mentions the signs, but not that, because of the terrain, they tend to appear suddenly, as you come over a hill or around one, when you’re looking down at a barn roof. You can see more images at google images (I can’t figure out how to link to a ‘see rock city’ search there).

          • mtn_philosoph

At first I thought you were talking about the Michigan version.

          • Mehmeisterjr

Thanks, Amy! This seems similar to the signs that I used to see as a kid in Pennsylvania that mentioned how many miles it was to Boston Store, a store that was, I was told, not in Boston but in Erie, PA. Is Burma Shave still on sale?

  • Pugsandcoffee

If you are a neocon Republican the answer is simple. The shooter is a Muslim terrorist from Tennessee. Obviously Tennessee is harboring terrorists. Therefore the only possible course of action is to bomb Oregon.

Toddlers with handguns have still killed more Americans on American soil this year than radical Islamists have. I just had a cynical chuckle over the headline that police are hunting for a man in Maine who shot 4 people overnight. The righties had less than 24 hours to stoke the hate fires and vilify Muslims before the –next– multiple shooting took over the headlines.

What a bunch of paint thinner huffing, amphetamine charged, rage addled morans…nothing outside of Mussolini’s concept of “the eternal war” will ever appeal to them.

  • TheBidenator

Ya know, not to cheapen this tragic and pointless loss of human life but I’m sure between 50-100 people have been killed by guns in the hours up until now since this shooting occurred. I think there’s a much, much larger problem at work here than angry Muslins. I know in the US it’s insane heresy to dare think the problem extends beyond Muslins (or minorities in general) but I’m going there…

    • Hardly Ideal

    • malsperanza

Same argument could be made about the murders in Charleston.

      • TheBidenator

Sure it could and it should be as well. The lesson from Charleston should be the nexus of racist hatred and animosity and the easy availability of guns leading to mass violence….not just some lunatic racist Confederate flag waver outlier who killed people as it has been framed. The fact that the only real result of that tragedy is the removal of the Confederate flag from a few places and the conviction of the racist killer actually cheapens what occurred in Charleston.

I agree with you that the flag is a convenient way to appear to do something concrete, while really doing nothing. But I think gun control is also a deflection here. These are hate crimes, and the causes need to be addressed – the tools of hate, whether guns or torching churches or whatever – are a secondary issue.

Not that I mind getting rid of the Confu flag and not that I wouldn’t like to ban all guns except hunting rifles.

  • AdrianCrownauer

At the end of the day, this will be the same as many crimes in America. Someone with a grudge, who obtained his weapons in the US, legally, at a gun store. Of course that won’t stop the Town Hall Harlot from milking the story for all its worth.

NRA comment: An armed terrorist cell is a civil terrorist cell.

  • Block the names and faces out of all these electronic demands for blood and tell me which are posted by the terrorists and which by the patriots.

    • Blank Ron

      There’s a difference?

  • Kat Anyperson

Having had one success, the GOP will continue to flog that dead horse in the hopes of another.

What they don’t seem to realize is that the horse is long gone and they are left beating a patch of dirt.

Not to be pedantic, since it’s of course the most important detail in this whole mess, but Hixson, Tennessee (which isn’t even an incorporated area) inexplicably spells its name with both an “x” and an “s”. People who live in Hixson (I don’t, I live on the other side of town) tend to get a tad sensitive about it.

    • Mystery_Poster

I’m not so sure they corrected the house photo when they corrected the state, it looks pretty high-dollar for Hixson.

He graduated from Red Bank Hogh School and went to Chattanooha State. That doesn’t spell money.

  • Terrorism, probably, but an act of war? By what country?

    Generistan, probably. Or maybe Fauxrabia.

  • Lord-Nash

I don’t think so. THIS is Radical Islam!

  • Four Marines Murdered By ISIS, Or Maybe Just Lone Wolf With Muslimy Name, Who Knows?

Obviously Wonkette is the REAL RACIST for suggesting that since the “Lone Wolf” theory is only reserved for white killers.

Maybe “those people” should eat and fast from terrorism.

  • r jones

When a Christian or atheist murders people, their religious orientation is rarely mentioned. Strange how that works.

  • Sterculius

Maybe if we made them change their weird names to something normal, terrorism would stop happening.

    • Blank Ron

      Like ‘Dylann Storm Roof.’

  • SilenceDoGood

I bet if a Muslim radical shot up the local craftbeer and artisanal vegan sandwhich shop you guys would be up in arms to find a rope to lynch him. I find it funny how liberal rage surges for the Charleston shooting but when it is just white American men being blown away the reaction from the Left is a collective shrug. “Those Marine baby killers probably deserved it anyway!” as you sip your Hopslam IPA.
