Bill Cosby Doesn't Cause Rape, That Jive-Bottomed Rap Music Causes Rape

Ooh, it's time for a fun flashback! So, you know how one of the big things about Bill Cosby is that he's always been a moral scold,   criticizing poor black people by calling them "no-grows," and saying black kids wouldn't get killed if they weren't always pilfering pound cake, and how they don't speak English good, and their mamas don't talk good, and all that? And you know how it's now common knowledge that that asshole has admittedto drugging girls with Quaaludes for rape-sex-type purposes?

It's good thing Cosby never pontificated about what causes rape back in the day, because boy howdy, that would be so gross, oh wait he did do that. Here he is explaining on the "Meet The Press" program that rap music is bad because of all the rape in it:

But you see, when youth does that, you have to understand that youth—these are, these are kids, they, they don’t have the responsibilities that, that we have.  They don’t have to have a job.  They don’t have to support a family.  They don’t have to buy insurance.  They—so they’re, they’re free-forming and they’re freewheeling.  It’s the people who make these records.  It’s the, it’s the guy in the boardroom.  I have another friend of mine who said to me, “I, I write rap lyrics.” He said, “And I went to a man”—I mean, “I went to work, and the guy said, the executive said to me, ‘I want lyrics about rape.  Rape is good.’” He said, “And I looked at the guy, and I said, ‘You’re talking about my mother.’ And the guy said, ‘Well, if you don’t want to write it, then I’ll get somebody else who will.’” But, see, all these things, this dopamine-raising level.  Alvin [Poussaint] has a very interesting viewpoint on whether or not kids are listening to the lyrics.  Because if you, if you challenge them, you say, “Why are you listening to that?” They say, “I’m not listening to the words.  I just like the beat.”

Gosh, was Bill Cosby listening to the lyrics? But no, he HATES rap music. As we remember from watching "The Cosby Show" growing up, Dr. Huxtable was always in to the old jazz and blues greats, so if Cosby is anything like his character, it was probably stuff like this great moment from the show (and can we just say, again and again, fuck this man right in the ear for ruining all this stuff for America?) when the whole family lip-synched and danced to "Night Time Is The Right Time" by Ray Charles. Is this the Kids These Days music that made Bill Cosby the way he is?

Or maybe we could just stop blaming people's disgusting behavior on their musical listening choices. Hey, let's go with that.
