We have a Lady Nice Time for you, and it is about sports! No, not those Women's World Cup ladies, we already wrote about that! This is about how the San Antonio Spurs, a basketball team made up largely of large men, has become the first team in the NBA to hire a lady as head coach for the Summer League in Las Vegas. Her name is Becky Hammon, and she is good at balls:
Today, the San Antonio Spurs announced that Becky Hammon will serve as their head coach during the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. It is the first time a woman has been the head coach for an NBA Summer League team.
Hammon, a former standout player in the WNBA, serves as an assistant coach for the Spurs during the regular season.
When Hammon was first hired, she was the first woman to break the lady ceiling as a full time assistant NBA coach, probably because even lady basketballers are tall and bump their heads on the ceiling a lot, HAHA #dadjoke.

What's particularly cool about this is that, love them or hate them (we're torn), the Spurs are considered to be one of the smartest teams out there, when it comes to coaching. This isn't like "oh some lame team that sucks just hired a girl, whoop dee doo." Hammon's boss, head coach Gregg Popovich, said before hiring her that ladies are just as qualified to coach men as dudes are:
“I don’t see why not. There shouldn’t be any limitations. It’s about talent and the ability to do things. It’s not about what your sex is or your race or anything else.”
Way to be all progressive, Coach Popovich, and way to go, Becky Hammon. You are a badass. Now you go show those boys what to do with their balls!
