Sheila Butt, Republican state representative of Tennessee, is very misunderstood. In February, she was very upset because she just didn't understand why people would think that her call for a National Association For The Advancement of White People could be misconstrued as RACIST. Now she will likely be very misunderstood again, simply for saying that we shouldn't have rape and incest exceptions in abortion laws, because bitches be lying.
The Tennessee House was debating HB 977, which would require a 48-hour waiting period and counseling before getting an abortion, and Democratic Rep. Craig Fitzhugh proffered an amendment that would make exceptions in the case of rape and incest. Rep. Butt had knowledge thoughts about that:
"This amendment appears political because we understand that in most instances, this is not verifiable. Let's make sure these women have the information and the understanding to act."

UGH, those rape and incest victims, always lying about what happened to them so they can make political statements! Rep. Butt KNOWS that most of these people claiming "I was raped by my father" are only saying that because some abortionist organization, or maybe Sandra Fluke HERSELF, told them to. Such sneaky activism! Of course, Rep. Butt is A Idiot, and needs to talk to former Missouri Rep. Todd Akin, who famously said that ladies' vaginas have special ninja powers to detect "legitimate rape" sperm, because “the female body has ways to try to shut the whole thing down." Maybe Rep. Butt could get down there in ladies' vagina parts with her microscope and try to figure out whether there is evidence of the body trying to "shut the whole thing down."
Rep. Fitzhugh, a man, told Rep. Butt, a woman, that he's pretty sure "women [don't] take something like rape or incest lightly," and that he "can't imagine anybody, any person would take advantage of that type of situation." But what does he know, he's just a man. Sure, he seems to have a better understanding of the issue than Rep. Butt does, but that's because he's a compassionate human, whereas Butt's beliefs on the issue were probably regurgitated into her baby bird throat by conservative male religious leaders. No matter! The amendment was, of course, tabled.

Fitzhugh had also previously offered an amendment that would say that, in cases of mental health, the 48-hour waiting period could also be waived, to which Butt replied that "putting this psychological harm bypass into the bill is really a loophole for the abortion industry." Because you know how those abortion doctors are, always saying "ooh, this patient is a LIVE ONE, I want to do this abortion RIGHT NOW!" And then they can run out of the clinic with cash spilling out of their pockets, due to the totally fun get-rich-quick abortion they did on the crazy lady. This amendment was, of course, also tabled.
Of course, yr Wonkette must point out that it is stupid that we are having this discussion about "exceptions" in the first place, since, according to this little thing called the Supreme Court, you might have heard of it, abortion is perfectly legal in the United States of America. But that doesn't mean we can't make it a huge pain in the ass for women who need them, up to and including women who may have been brutally raped by their fathers, because most of them are probably just big old liars.
The Commercial Appeal reports that this bill is only possible because dingbat Tennessee voters approved a constitutional amendment in 2014, stating that nothing in the Tennessee Constitution says you have a right to 'bortion, which means you can do all the restrictin' and regulatin' you want, as long as federal courts say it's okay. Gov. Bill Haslam has signaled that he will sign this bill, in addition to Senate Bill 1280, which is one of those newfangled-y things that imposes all kinds of extra restrictions on abortion clinics, classifying them as "ambulatory surgical treatment centers" and such, in order to make it harder for them to stay open.
So, hey, Tennessee ladies, try not to get raped or incested, or if you do, make sure to do that ninja thing and shut the sperm DOWN, because otherwise, trying to get an abortion is gonna really suck. And don't go crying to Sheila Butt about it either. She knows you're just a big lying slut.
There is no "abortion industry" because if there was you can bet Republicans would be trying to subsidize it and PROTECT it from regulation like they do with any other for-profit corporate entity, but nice attempt trying to spin your idiocy as a brave stance against Big Abortion.
I brought booze, you guys. Line forms to the left.
