On Tuesday'sThe Daily Show, it was pretty much the same old thing. Some jokes, an interview ... oh, and the announcement that after 17 years, Jon Stewart is leaving the show.
"I am a terrible employee,” he said, “and it is time for someone else to have that opportunity."
We have no idea how much longer we’ll have Jon Stewart to quote around the water cooler. Maybe until September? Maybe longer? Maybe he’s totally messing with us, and he’s not going anywhere? Nah, he's totally leaving. Sad face.
He has no specific plans, he said, just “a lot of ideas,” like having “dinner, on a school night, with my family. Who, I have heard, from multiple sources, are lovely people."
Please share your favorite Stewart jokes and clips in the comments -- and sure, go ahead and make those "Craig Kilborn is available" jokes if you must -- which we do not allow.
Agreed, but they play excellent foils to Jon, they'd have to completely alter their schticks to take over the anchor roles. Aasif was always more incredulous about things rather than playing the character (Sam Bee or Jason Jones could have been good Colbert replacements, though!)
One of the best moments ...
The aftermath of 2000's presidential election between George W. Bush and Al Gore ... When Bush said that he "was not elected to serve one party," Stewart quipped: "You were not elected."
