Here's How Your Do-Nothing Republican House Is Wasting Your Time And Money This Week
It sure does look like a busy week for the hard-working hard workers in the House of Representatives. Via Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, here's a glance at their very busy schedule. As you can see, Republicans are, as always, focused on job creation, which is why they will be taking up eight different bills to re-name post offices. For America!
There is also this critical bill, introduced by Rep. Raul Labrador:
To require the Secretary of the Interior to convey certain Federal land to Idaho County in the State of Idaho, and for other purposes.
What would those purposes be?
The land conveyed under this section shall be used only as a shooting range.
Good thinking, Rep. Labrador. We all know Idaho doesn't have nearly enough space designated for shootin' at stuff.
Despite any misconception you might have that Republicans hate science because it's just a theory and also they are not scientists, pshaw! The House will also be discussing H.R. 5544, the Low-Dose Radiation Research Act of 2014, sponsored by Rep. Paul Broun of the Science, Space, and Technology Committee. Apparently, Broun read a thing somewhere that low-dose radiation might have, like, effects and stuff, so he's thinking maybe some science-type folks should study that and get to back to us ... eventually.
The Director of the Department of Energy Office of Science shall carry out a research program on low dose radiation. The purpose of the program is to enhance the scientific understanding of and reduce uncertainties associated with the effects of exposure to low dose radiation in order to inform improved risk management methods.
Given that the House has decided it can only squeeze in another 12 days of actual work between now and the end of the year, you can see why the leadership would really want to prioritize its priorities. So many post offices to name, so little time.
The only question is whether Republicans will be able to work a quick little impeachment into the schedule before it's time to call it a year and go back to doing nothing useful at all.
Though the ultimate aim was to have every post office, airport and high school in the country, as well as all the ships in the U.S. Navy, named for St. Ronnie, even the most zealous Reaganists had to acknowledge that certain practical difficulties might arise once every post office was called the Ronald Reagan Post Office and every airport Ronald Reagan International and every warship USS Ronald Reagan. So now the plan is to replace the terms 'Post Office' with 'Reagan Office', 'Airport' with 'Reaganport' and 'high school' with 'Reagan School.' 'United States Ships' will henceforth be 'Ronald Reagan Ships'.
Is it just me, or does the <a href="http:\/\/docs.house.gov\/billsthisweek\/20141117\/h3398_sus_xml%20-%20Girls%20Count%20Act.pdf" target="_blank">Girls Count bill, H.R.3398</a> look suspiciously like a &quot;demon pass&quot; motion?
Can&#039;t much complain about the actual substance of it though, such as it is.
