Brave Minnesota Job Creator Takes Brave Stand Against Waitresses

Oh good, a brave Job Creator is finally taking a stand against waitresses and also the people who patronize his restaurant by adding a "minimum wage fee" to the bill. Finally someone is dong SOMETHING about greedy servers who can now charge the princely sum of $4.90 - $6.15 per hour for their services! We don't use the word "hero" often, but nothing short of a hero would protest Minnesota's first minimum wage increase in nearly a decade.
Owners of the Oasis Cafe are charging a 35 cent minimum wage fee. They say it’s to offset the cost of an increased minimum wage for tipped employees.
First, if you as a customer do not feel that you can afford to pay an extra 35 cents on top of your bill so that your server can earn a minimum wage, you are probably an asshole and everyone in the service industry would probably be better off if you prepared your meals at home rather than going out in public to eat.
Second, if you as a Job Creator want to show your customers that YOU are in fact an asshole, this is a great way to do it!
Customers have mixed reviews about the new fee.
For some, the thought of charging customers this fee sent them to social media to vent.
“You’re essentially blaming customers for the increase when you charge for it the way you do,” one customer wrote on Facebook.
Another said: “It’s Oasis' way of blaming our government for trying to set a fair living wage. It is political grandstanding.”
Clearly these customers do not understand how employees are BETTER OFF if they make less money. Here, let the owner of the restaurant mansplain it to them:
Oasis owners fired back on Facebook, saying: “Thumbing my nose at the law change, you’re right. Part of my thinking was to shine a light on this matter, which I truly believe is in the best interest of both my business and employees.”
Why is it in the best interest of the employees to make less money? Your Wonkette is no economist, but we strongly suspect that the Oasis Cafe owner isn't either.
I certainly am. it's the principle of the owner being a dick about having to pay a fair wage that I object to, not the idea of wait staff making a decent living.
There are other restaurants doing that too. It makes sense, as it doesn't force wait staff to grovel for dollars and it doesn't force the decent customers to dig a little deeper to make up for the the cheapskates that don't tip
