Hissing hate module Laura Ingraham will be joining the roundtable on ABC's This Week With George Stephanopoulos, apparently because they need someone who's got the guts to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington by cutting off a recording of a speech by John Lewis with the sound of a gunshot . Or maybe they need someone with a keen analytical mind that recognizes the uncanny parallels between Obamacare and standing in a car rental line. Or maybe she won the spot with her witty observation that Sonia Sotomayor prefers the term "undocumented immigrants" to "illegal aliens" because, as a Puerto Rican person, Sotomayor's
“allegiance obviously goes to her, you know, immigrant family background, not to the U.S. Constitution.”
Beats us. Maybe Stephanopoulos just wants Ingraham to wear a red dress and sing "I like to be een A-mer-ee-ca!"
Among some of the understandable eye-rolling at the choice, we'd point you over to Media Matters, which has a listicle of 10 charming Ingraham performances from the last few years, starting with the John Lewis gunshot sound effect, which was a witty comedic way of making the Georgia congressman just shut up with his unspeakable support for immigration reform. Let's relive the moment, shall we?
</p><p>Heck, nothing offensive about a gunshot sound effect to shut up a bothersome congressman who's best known for speaking at the March on Washington just before Martin Luther King, and who got his skull fractured during the Selma-to-Montgomery march. Media Matters notes that Ingraham </p><p/><blockquote><a href="http: //mediamatters.org/blog/2013/08/29/laura-ingraham-defends-using-violent-sound-effe/195665" target="_blank">defended </a>her use of the gunshot sound, instead calling it a "blow up effect" and claiming that criticism of her using the sound effect on Lewis was an attempt "to crush free speech."</blockquote> <p>Poor thing. punished so cruelly for having the creativity to use an effect other than a record scratch. But now she can share her insights with whatever wider audience a Sunday political talk show has, so maybe she wasn't crushed too badly. </p><p>In other highlights, Ingraham also had a rollicking good time mocking the accent of a woman who advocated for immigration reform, said that immigrants from Mexico are making America a "hellhole," and compared people using food stamps to "the roof squatters during Hurricane Katrina," because they're presumably too worthless to take care of themselves. </p><p>More recently, after Louis CK made a rather <a href="http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/laura-ingraham-louis-ck-christian-conservatives-muslim-jokes" target="_blank">tame but blasphemous joke</a> on SNL wondering why we never hear about "our mother in heaven" -- suggesting that maybe God knocked Her off -- Ingraham said that she'd like him to try that kind of mockery against the Prophet Muhammed and see how he liked the reaction, haw haw. </p><p>The worst part of the announcement, of course, is that it means that now we'll have to start hatewatching <em>This Week </em>and reporting back on it to You The Wonkette Readers. Thanks one hell of a lot, Mr. Stephanopoulos. </p><p>[<a href="http://www.politico.com/blogs/media/2014/04/laura-ingraham-joins-abc-news-186819.html" target="_blank">Politico</a> / <a href="http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/laura-ingraham-abc-news" target="_blank">TPM</a> / <a href="http://mediamatters.org/blog/2014/04/13/meet-abc-news-newest-contributor-laura-ingraham/198871" target="_blank">Media Matters</a>] </p><p>em>Follow Doktor Zoom on <a href="http://www.twitter.com/DoktorZoom" target="_blank">Twitter.</a> At least he can DVR the show...</p>
