We have said this before and we will say it again. We do not actually think Megyn Kelly is dumb. Well, we think she is dumb in the sort of way we think leggings worn as pants are dumb, which is to say we think they shouldn't exist. But we do not think Megyn Kelly lacks IQ points, although that conviction was shaken recently when she definitively declared the race of an entirely fictional being to be white because duh, Santa, white. All that said, we're getting a little tiny bit worried about old Megyn, because she now seems to be losing brain cells at an alarming rate like the guy in Flowers for Algernon, along with a corresponding rise in the sort of bullyboy thinking that Fox specializes in. Witness Monday's impeachment chat with Mitch McConnell (R-Turtle).
Kelly pointed to a recent Supreme Court case and told McConnell that the president’s use of recess appointments was just “one example of many” of “presidential overreach.”
“And the question is whether beyond this case, what is perceived by some as presidential overreach, really can be resolved, in your view, by the courts,” she said.
So Megyn Kelly -- a former litigator who brags about her nine years at Jones Day, a huge white shoe firm -- is concerned that the courts can't resolve a case that is currently in the courts, and thinks that Senator Turtle should just jump right to the impeaching without even waiting to see what the courts might do, because legislative might makes right or something. We think that's in the constitution somewhere.
Turtle didn't snap at this genius plan, so Kelly dropped the subtlety act to ask him if he would just get around to impeaching the Kenyan Muslim already, for fuck's sake.
“We’ve had lawyers, constitutional lawyers come on this show and say, OK, so when that happens, when you have a president who, in your view or the view of some, is out of control in terms of overreach, you as the lawmaker really have two meaningful options,” she said. “And the main one that has been used historically is, try to impeach him!”
“I mean, is that ever considered?” Kelly asked. “As opposed to running into the courts and trying to get them to do it?”
It seems odd that none of those regular flavor lawyers and constitutional flavor lawyers would have pointed out to Megyn that the Senate cannot begin or conduct impeachment proceedings, as it is the body that actually conducts the trial after the House votes to impeach. Maybe they were all absent that day in law school and also in some sort of coma all through 1998 when the Big Dog was getting impeached. Jesus, those who cannot remember the past are really actually condemned to repeat it. Too bad they have to drag the rest of us along.
