Well, in case you needed any proof that Obamacare must be stopped from its agenda of making guys in creepy Uncle Sam masks pop up between innocent girls' legs, check out this letter from a Real College Graduate that has gone viral with the title "Obamacare 'raped my future'":
"My name is Ashley Dionne and I’m a 26-year-old recent graduate from Michigan.
The phony Obamacare signup poster boy made me want to send a message about how Obamacare is really affecting people."
We'll have the rest after the jump, but let's just preface our analysis with a spoiler alert: It turns out that anyone forwarding this letter as proof that the Affordable Care Act is raping people's future actually has something of a nonconsensual relationship with the facts!
Ashley Dionne's letter continues:
"I graduated from The University of Michigan in 2009. In my state, this used to mean something, but even with a bachelor’s I was told I was too educated and wouldn’t stay. I watched as kids with GEDs and high school diploma’s took the low-paying jobs for which I applied.
I went back to school and got a second degree and finally found work at a gym. I work nights and only get 32 hours a week for eight dollars an hour. I’m unable to find a second job at this time.
I have asthma, ulcers, and mild cerebral palsy. Obamacare takes my monthly rate from $75 a month for full coverage on my “Young Adult Plan,” to $319 a month. After $6,000 in deductibles, of course.
Liberals claimed this law would help the poor. I am the poor, the working poor, and I can’t afford to support myself, let alone older generations and people not willing to work at all.
This law has raped my future.
It will keep me and kids my age from having a future at all.
This is the real face of Obamacare and it isn’t pretty."
Ms. Dionne sent her letter to family values radio guy Dennis Prager -- who you may recall thinks poor kids should not be fed because that creates laziness and makes Jesus sad -- and Prager put it on his FaceSpace, and now poor oppressed Ashley Dionne is a hero for exposing just how bad Obamacare is.
Except for the parts where she kind of leaves stuff out, like how she appears to be comparing a bare-minimum catastrophic-care only insurance plan (most likely with a high deductible and lifetime benefits limit) to the most expensive, "Gold" level plan. One of the very first comments on the article at the rightwing Campus Reform site points out that, given the information in the letter, she should be able to find a less expensive option in Michigan:
She should not be getting quoted that high of an amount - unless she is a smoker. If she works $8/hr for 32 hours a week, she makes $13-14k per year. She should be able to get on the Silver plan (not Medicaid) for about $250-350 per year in the most extreme situation. The Silver plan has that lousy $6k out-of-pocket max (though the deductible is *only* $2k). If she has student loans, she can deduct that from her income. Taking that into account probably move up to a platinum plan, while barely paying anything after tax credits.
Another commenter jumps in and adds (and we haven't fact-checked any of these numbers ourselves, we'll caution):
She [sic] comparing the lowest plan offered by BCBS before the ACA to the highest plan offered by BCBS in 2014. They are offering a $175 month plan with a lower deductible and out of pocket costs that is much more comparable to the $75 plan they were offering before but offers much more due to the basic requirements from the ACA.
Still other commenters point out that, with the income and health issues she mentions, Dionne would qualify for the ACA's income-based subsidies or for Medicaid (Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder accepted the ACA's expansion of Medicaid, which almost certainly makes him a RINO). Not so fast! exclaims Dionne's mother, Vicki, who says that you're all missing the point, because Barack Obama is a LYING LIAR:
She does qualify for Medicaid. Why should an intelligent, able bodied person want to have to accept unwanted help from the government? She wasn't raised that way. I should know, I raised her. She wants to work, would love to have a full time job. The point is she paid her insurance was told in the beginning that she could keep her insurance.
Except, no, Barry never promised that, what he said was that if you have insurance through your employer you can keep it (and even there, the bargain-basement plans that had really crappy coverage were likely to not meet the ACA minimums). Individual plans on the private market had far more variability, and some of the cheapest ones that provided the least coverage don't meet the ACA minimums.
But yes, here is someone who actually qualifies for several options under the ACA, who was only able to get her $75 plan because she continued on it after turning 26 -- her mom acknowledges that "If she had not done this she would have been dropped because if pre-existing conditions" -- who was perfectly fine with taking help from the rest of the people in her insurance pool, but now has a moral objection to actually taking advantage of the assistance provided to her by Obamacare. Which is raping her future.
What a monster that Barack Obama is. He broke a promise he never made, and now people who want to refuse the subsidies in the ACA will have to pay a lot more for a level of insurance that's far more complete than the crappiest plan that used to be available. If that's not oppression, we don't know what is.

Of herself. I'm beginning to see the problem . . . and it ain't Obamacare.
