Congresscritters Bachmann, Gohmert, & King Love Egyptian Coup, Think Muslim Brotherhood Did 9/11

America's three stupidest congresscritters, Michele Bachmann, Louie Gohmert, and Steve King (the cantaloupe guy,   not the IRA guy ), held a press conference Saturday to praise the Egyptian military for overthrowing the elected government and for its recent attempt to eliminate the Muslim Brotherhood; they also expressed their support for continued arms sales to the military government and urged it to "stand firm" against terrorism. The three appeared to attribute all terrorism to the Muslim Brotherhood, because it has the scary name "Muslim Brotherhood" after all.

Supreme Moment of Derp: Michele Bachmann appears to attribute responsibility for the 9/11 attacks to an Egyptian political party:

“Together, we’ve gone through suffering. Together, the United States and Egypt, have dealt with the same enemy,” Bachmann explained. “It’s a common enemy, and it’s an enemy called terrorism.”

“We want to make sure that you have the Apache helicopters, the F-16s, the equipment that you have so bravely used to capture terrorists and to take care of this menace that’s on your border,” she continued. “Many of you have asked, do we understand who the enemy is? We can speak for ourselves. We do.”

“We have seen the threat that the Muslim Brotherhood has posed here for the people in Egypt. We have seen the threat that the Muslim Brotherhood has posed around the world. We stand against this great evil. We are not for them. We remember who caused 9/11 in America. We remember who it was that killed 3,000 brave Americans. We have not forgotten.”

Bachmann either forgot or doesn't care that 9/11 was an attack by al Qaeda, which at the time was mostly Saudis based in Afghanistan. We'll go with "doesn't care, because again, scary Muslims are all the same, and terrorists are all terrorists, a lack of distinction that the Egyptian military has been happy to encourage.

As RawStory points out, immediately after the 9/11 attacks, the Muslim Brotherhood issued a statement in which it "strongly condemned" the terrorists, and deposed president Mohamed Morsi also denounced them. But come on, tyranny! Terrorism! Plus, they were lying when they condemned the attacks -- they are, after all, the Muslim Brotherhood.

Secondary Moment of Derp: Louie Gohmert comparing coup leader General Abdel Fatah el-Sissi to George Washington:

“We met with for a long meeting General el-Sissi and many of the military leaders, and my friend Steve King mentioned again about our heritage in America,” he explained. “George Washington, doing what no one had ever done before him, led a military in revolution, won the revolution, and then resigned and went home.”

“And we met, in General el-Sissi, a man who is leader of the military, who might have a shot at being elected president, but is more concerned about giving his life to help his country, Egypt.”

We remember how awesome it was when George Washington used snipers to fire on sit-ins and hospital tents, too. You know, there's always some birth pangs for Liberty.

Gohmert went on to say he was reminded of the words of Thomas Paine:

"He said, 'In America, the law is king.' -- Thomas Paine being one of our founders -- He said, 'Even the most powerful can't place themselves above it, the weakest are never beneath its protection, and no corrupt institution is too big to fail.'"

Pretty darned inspiring, and we had no idea that Paine coined the term "too big to fail." (Also, a "founder"? Debatable.) Hahaha, we are joking, the only thing in that "quote" up there that Thomas Paine actually said is "In America, the law is king" -- the rest is from Glenn Beck's dumb novel  The Overton Window.  Whoever found the passage for Gohmert just moved the quotation marks around a little bit, changing the narrator's commentary on Paine into an actual Paine quote.

It's certainly not the biggest lie, but it's a pretty good emblem for three idiots holding a press conference where the Muslim Brotherhood did 9/11 and a coup leader who ordered soldiers to shoot a thousand unarmed civilians is George Washington.
