Shemane Nugent, wife of NRA Board Member Ted Nugent, is the very model of a responsible gun owner. Which probably explains why she was arrested Thursday night when the TSA found a handgun in her carry on luggage as she prepared to board a flight at Dallas/Ft Worth International Airport. But don't worry -- according to her attorney, David Finn, it was simply an "honest mistake":
Finn said Nugent had worked late and got up early Thursday for the airport, and either “completely forgot or never knew the weapon was in her bag.”
No big whoop. When Real American Patriots have all the guns they need to keep themselves safe from crime and tyranny, it's only reasonable that they'll lose track of one now and then. Honestly, who doesn't keep spare guns all over the place? We keep finding them under the couch cushions or in the vegetable crisper and we honestly have no idea how they got there.
Finn also explained that Ms. Nugent has a concealed carry permit, and added that she's real sorry, so everything should be OK:
“She is very embarrassed. She’s never been in this situation before,” said Finn. “She has expressed remorse for any inconvenience for any public safety officials.”
And let's also recall that Shemane is the reasonable Nugent -- she's the one who told him he needed to apologize to the TV producer that he casually threatened to rape in 2012. ("Reasonable" being a sliding-scale feature in this family...)
Besides, as the Dallas Morning News points out, Ms. Nugent is in excellent company:
Through July, security found 57 guns in carry-on bags at D/FW Airport. The airport ranks second behind Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, according to a Transportation Security Administration spokesman ...
In the first seven months of the year, more than 1,000 guns have been recovered in airports across the country, according to a Transportation Security Administration spokesman.
Don't you feel safe and free knowing that so many responsible gun owners are out there?
Thanks, I live to serve.
