After cancelling his plans for a Thousand Moron March, minor irritant and ardent student of Gandhi Adam Kokesh did the thing he does best: sought publicity. Here he is loading a shotgun in Freedom Plaza in Washington, D.C., just a few blocks from the White House, while warning that he is "the final American revolution." No word yet on whether this manly display of resolute idiocy convinced President Barack Obama to stop being so darn tyrannical. As ThinkProgress notes, openly carrying a weapon in D.C. is still illegal, even after Heller, as is loading one, but being an asshole in public is still covered by the First Amendment.
While loading the shotgun, Kokesh delivers this inspiring message:
“We will not be silent. We will not obey. We will not allow our government to destroy our humanity. We are the final American Revolution. See you next Independence Day.”
Sounds like a pretty specific set of demands! We agree that such humanity as Adam Kokesh might still possess should not be destroyed, though he's done a pretty good job of jettisoning it himself so far. The YouTube post includes a manifesto of sorts, calling for tax avoidance, rejecting the authoritah of the federal government, and demanding "an orderly dissolution of the federal government through secession and reclamation of federally held property," among other things. Not sure if he means like an auction, or if he wants people to just start grabbing Postal Service trucks or what.
There's more, but it's the usual "new American Revolution" arglebargle that these morons spout every single day, and then deny that they meant it literally whenever someone finds themselves inspired to water the Tree Of Liberty and go and shoot some cops. Kokesh has previously stated that
Should one whole year from this July 4th pass while the crimes of this government are allowed to continue, we may have passed the point at which non-violent revolution becomes impossible.
But for now, you know, it's a metaphor. But keep that .223 caliber watering can handy.
The D.C Police and Park Police say they are investigating the Kokesh video; a police spokesman said it was unclear when the video was actually made. Carrying an unregistered firearm can be punished with a fine and up to a year in jail, but the last thing this idiot needs is more of a reason to claim he's a martyr.
Kokesh canceled plans to lead a march of armed loons from Virginia into D.C. after police made it clear they'd be arrested the moment they crossed into the District. Instead, there was supposed to be a series of huge gun-stroking rallies in state capitals on the 4th; the protests were reportedly less than overwhelming. A couple of YouTube videos from the Phoenix event showed about 25 people milling around; the event seemed to have more signs than people. ThinkProgress notes that a "small protest" in Concord, New Hampshire, included "a man calling for a revolution with an assault rifle slung over his shoulder."
And so we salute Adam Kokesh, who wins a lovely pewter replica of a colonial tankard for being the 10,000th crank to use July 4th to announce a "New American Revolution." He is joined by about 35 others in yesterday's email inbox.

What kind of a country is that--no military, gay marriage, bath-temperature water at its palm-fringed beaches, a quarter of the land set aside for parks and nature reserves.
Oh yeah: the good kind. ¡Pura Vida!
