Actual history information: some maybe-newly-discovered postwar interview notes with Adolf Hitler’s doctors have turned up that have led Ghost Breitbart and the Washington Examiner to the Perfectly Reasonable Conclusion that Adolf Hitler was an obviously fogget. Despite the excitable headlines in the these two fine media establishments, however, Hitler’s doctors didn’t say he was gay — it was an Army interrogator who interviewed these doctors who said it. In shorthand. And if you can’t trust the judgment of an obscure Army guy, who can you trust? Better not allow gays to marry, or you’re asking for another Holocaust! (OK, OK, so the actual Zombie Breitbart article doesn’t say Obama is gay. Just all of the comments.)
The “discovery” consists of some comments in a notebook by “Army interrogator Herman Merl, a Vienna-born medical technician enlisted to interview Hitler’s doctors, Karl Brandt and Theodor Morell.” And the notebooks just happen to be up for auction at a place that specializes in Nazi memorabilia — the owner was generous enough to grant an interview to the Washington Examiner. And talk about conclusive! Here is the proof that Hitler was gayer than the gayest gay that ever gayed. You see, based on the interviews, Merl:
scribbled “Homosex” in his notebook where he sized up the mass murderer’s sexuality.
He then wrote: “Eva Braun = separate rooms” before adding “female hormone – injection 50,000 units.” Elsewhere he wrote, “His sexual life and intercourse with Eva Braun was told to me.”
Motherfuckin’ history, how does it work? The larger context for this exaggeration of dubious evidence, as EqualityMatters points out, is that for some Christianist wingnuts like Bryan Fischer, teh gheys were the driving force in the Nazi party because of course they lack all human decency and were far more willing to be “savage and brutal and vicious” in carrying out Hitler’s orders. This nearly-complete inversion of reality became a common anti-gay trope after the publication of Scott Lively’s The Pink Swastika in 1995; the thoroughly-discredited book spun a thin skein of fact (Ernst Roehm was gay) into a ridiculous conspiracy theory (The Gays are natural genociders). Never mind the boring reality that the Nazis purged Roehm and other gays from their ranks and sent tens of thousands of homosexuals to the concentration camps.
Frankly, we think the wingnut media have missed the real story:
Merl’s notes further confirm other post-war interviews with Hitler’s caretakers that he was “hysterical,” a “megalomaniac,” and suffered from several ailments, notably flatulence for which he took drugs to stop passing gas. He also suggested that Hitler had Parkinson’s disease.
Farting Hitler definitely needs to become a meme! We want more videos just like this, because HISTORICAL ACCURACY!
