Were any of you as surprised as we were when Dick Armey decided to dish about all the crimes going on at his "grassroots" Tea Party group to the most sinister far-left outlet on the planet, Media Matters, last week? It was awesome; he explained how the "grassroots" Tea Party group FreedomWorks, before it paid him $8 million to leave like two months early, also paid millions to Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh to say nice things about it, and not in any kind of "this is a paid promotion," or "here is a message from our partners" way, because that is a thing that Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh do. It's just called "ethics" you guys, and Limbaugh and Beck are full to bursting with it!
Well Erick Erickson and stupidest man on the Internet Jim Hoft were as surprised as you were! But there is a simple answer. Dick Armey has picked up the phone again to set the record straight (again), and this time it was one-ringy-dingy, two-ringy-dingies to the Daily Caller, who are presumably Erickson- and Jim Hoft-approved! And it turns out it was all a big misunderstanding . Armey thought the whole time he was on the horn with Media Matters that he was actually spilling his guts to far-right lunatics at the Media Research Center. This is because he is an old man and, unlike your Wonkette, does not actually know who Brent Bozell is.
Take it away, Daily Caller!
Over the weekend, conservative reaction to Armey’s decision to “dish” to Media Matters about his tumultuous exit from FreedomWorks ranged from befuddled to furious.
“If Dick Armey is going to go to Media Matters, he’s willing to burn down the movement over his vendetta,” Red State blogger Erick Erickson wrote on Twitter.
“This is disgraceful,” Jim Hoft wrote on his blog, The Gateway Pundit. “The former FreedomWorks chairman did not approve of the way the conservative group was working with Glenn Beck to push conservative causes. So, he went to the most sinister far left outlet on the planet to rip on FreedomWorks. He must have lost his mind.”
But in a Tuesday phone interview with TheDC, Armey insisted that even though Strupp properly identified himself, it wasn’t until “somebody busted my chops on Facebook” that he realized spoke to a left-wing group.
“I wouldn’t know Media Matters from a hole in the wall,” the 72-year-old told TheDC. “That was a major, big screw up on my part. I thought they were somebody else.”
When asked who he thought Media Matters was, Armey replied, “Who’s the guy with the red beard that always does the show where he points out how biased the press is?”
“Oh… the Media Research Center? Brent Bozell?” TheDC suggested. Bozell appears weekly on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show to spotlight liberal media bias in a segment called “Media Mash.”
“Yeah, I thought it was Brent Bozell,” Armey replied.
Of course, none of that explains who he thought Mother Jones was when he leaked them all kinds of shenanigans. We assume he thought David Corn was all seven mothers of " One Million Moms ."

He makes me think of Grampa Simpson.
You work the con you have, not the one you wish you had.
