Even House GOP Hates House GOP Today

Did you spend the new year's holiday careening from half-truth to quarter-truth, rage to amusement, regarding the House GOP and the fiscal cliff? We did! Yr Wonkette was relieved that the whole thing went down on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, which absolved us from having to write all that much about it in real time. Small blessings, people. We really can't pass up the opportunity, though, to remark upon the skull-crushing dickishness of the House GOP refusing to bring a Hurricane Sandy relief bill up for a vote:

President Barack Obama demanded on Wednesday that Republicans hold a vote on $60 billion in funding for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts, which was set to be approved Tuesday night before House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) suddenly took the bill the table amid acrimonious talks on the nation’s fiscal situation.

Seriously, yr Wonkette has GOT to get a gig like the House GOP. We hereby humbly petition the Editrix to let us fuck off writing important stories until the very last minute and then do a terrible job, and then refuse, because time is all gone, to do another important thing. On second thought, we pretty much already do that, so never mind.

It is unsurprising that Bamz is mad, because Bamz has had to deal with this merry band of nihilists for, well, ever. What makes this whole kerfuffle extra special is that even party stalwarts like Peter King want to stone cold murder John Boehner:

Boehner’s unexplained decision to delay a vote on Sandy relief efforts outraged Rep. Peter King (R-NY) , who later said that he might actually quit the Republican Party in protest.

“We are a two-party system,” he said on CNN Wednesday, appearing near tears during the segment. “But I’m over that because as the very least, you’re expected to be treated fairly… When your people are literally freezing in the winter and they’re without food and their without shelter and they’re without clothing and my own party refuses to help them, then why should I help the Republican Party?”

Much as we agree with Peter King, we hardly think that the other side of the aisle really wants his insane McCarthy-ist anti-Muslim behavior. But it is not only Peter King who is mad! Pretty much everyone in New York or New Jersey - Republican, Democrat, Communist, Whig, Tory, whatever - is furious at the giant fuck you that the GOP delivered to those snotty coastal elites:

"This is an absolute disgrace and the speaker should hang his head in shame," said Rep. Eliot Engel, D-N.Y.

"I'm here tonight saying to myself for the first time that I'm not proud of the decision my team has made," said Rep. Michael Grimm, R-N.Y. "It is the wrong decision, and I' m going to be respectful and ask that the speaker reconsider his decision. Because it's not about politics, it's about human lives."

"I truly feel betrayed this evening," said Rep. Nita Lowey, D-N.Y.

"We need to be there for all those in need now after Hurricane Sandy," said Rep. Gregory Meeks, D-N.Y.

Oh hey wait we're not done! It isn't just congresscritters that now hate themselves or hate each other. Governors hate the house GOP too:

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) on Wednesday released a joint statement in which they criticized the House of Representatives for adjourning on Tuesday night without voting on legislation to provide relief to victims of Hurricane Sandy.

JOINT STATEMENT BITCHES. Bipartisan hating of you, House GOP. Kudos to starting out the year by setting the "awful behavior" bar so very high.

WAIT! STOP THE PRESSES OR THE PUSHING OF BUTTONS TO PUBLISH. Chris Christie just gave good press and spent a veritable truckload of time trashing Boehner. The good British people at the Guardian liveblogged the whole thing and provided the lazier among us with choice highlights. (Brits! So polite!) As the kids say, go read the whole thing :

   

Chris Christieis still going, and it feels like John Boehner's grip on the House speakership is slipping with every comment. Such as:

 If the people of New Jersey feel betrayed by what happens last night, then they have good company, I'm with them. 

Asked about Pete King's comment about not fundraising for Republican candidates, Christie says he'd more discriminating:

 Certainly at the moment I wouldn't be looking to do much for House leadership. 

We cannot WAIT to see more of this forever and ever.
