Steven Crowder Tent-Gate: 12/11 Was An Inside Job

Remember that awesome video of stereotypical union thug cold wailing on stereotypical Fox News douche Steven Crowder at the Michigan anti-“Right to Work” rally this week? Of course you do, it’s embedded above. Probably you watched it and were like: “I shouldn’t be laughing at this because I’m a hippy Wonketteer librul who knows violence solves nothing, but DAMN! Dude dropped Crowder like Tyson dropped Spinks.”

Well, you no longer have to feel conflicted about enjoying this video because it turns out that Crowder totally started it! You, like everyone, doubtless noticed the weird edit point where the little guy seemed to be getting up off the ground, but without raw vid declined to assert that as the case but rather just speculated a bunch. Naturally, as always, your speculation was right! He said as much to some Canadian teevee station that’s like Fox News but with more Anne Murray because of CanCon.

“I’ve been very honest about this, the fact that as they started ransacking the tent, yeah, me and some men went out there … and we didn’t get violent with them but we did try to push them off the tent. That is true. We tried to push them off the tent.”

Good rule of thumb: When you shove an angry guy, he’s going to take a swing or six at you. Haha, Steven Crowder fights like a girl a sniveling weasel of an unspecified gender.

      1. Baconzgood

How you kids doin? I hope you're making bacon sandwiches for him when he watches football and he rubs your feet when you watch Lifetime.

        I'm cheering for you two.

        1. SorosBot

But I don't watch football! And aw, thanks; I'll say thanks for MissTaken too since she's on a plane heading back home from a business trip at the moment and won't see this.

    1. Will_Panic

If that man had a gun, and Michigan had a "stand your ground" law, Steve would've been "voted out of office."

          1. starfanglednut

Oh, I kiss his little head all day. There's nothing like almost losing something precious to make you grateful for what you have. Floods and mudslides?! Yikes! Be careful Z. You can always come visit me here if you like. How are your kitties? Still keeping you up?

          2. Weedlord BonerHitler

            (Hugs you) Thank you, sweetie.

Kittehs are freezing their poor little asses off and we just paid a ton of Ameros to find out there is NOTHING wrong with fucking Gustav, not that you'd know it from his daily re-enactments of The Dying Cat Ballet at 2 and 4 am respectively. Fucker. But there ya go. Wut can you do but (mostly) love the little fuckers?

Wutchu doin' for Xmas, or is it too rude to ask? You can tell me in private if you don't want our resident troll peeking.

          3. starfanglednut

Resident troll? You mean the new McTroll? (See McDonald's thread.)I am getting together with a friend on Xmass eve, and then maybe going to my Mom's church to hear some good classical. Makes me feel close to her. Christmas day I hang out with my AA friends.Z, on Wednesday I will be a college graduate! Wut?!

          4. Weedlord BonerHitler

Oh, is the bastard back in a different incarnation? Thanks for the tip (just the tip, ma'am).

I hug you very warmly and sincerely, sweetie. Sounds like a great way to spend the eve and day.

Aw, Baby, that is so terrific! We must celebrate! So proud of you! Major kudos to you, BabyGirl! You did it! (Hugs you with extra hugs)

      1. BadKitty904

        THERE you are!!! Yay!

We've been worried about you. I was afraid your cats had eaten you or something.

        1. Weedlord BonerHitler

          Hey, sweetie! Who loves ya?

Been busy with a new project. So much to do, so little time to have fun, goddammit. (Hugs you with many hugs of fierce Xmassy love and shit) (Well, OK, not the shit part)

          1. BadKitty904

Well, good. Sounds like you're keeping busy and out of mischief. Joshing aside, I was afraid that misery in your back had been acting up.

And best compliments of the season to you and yours! And *MANY* of them! :0)

          2. Weedlord BonerHitler

Nope, looks like the back is at 95% and still improving. Turns out if you can't get up from the floor without one or more body parts (other than feet/legs) touching, you have maybe 6 years to live, so We Haz Been Incentivized, as the corporatocracy likes to say, to get off our lazy asses and fuckin' exercise.

You are CHO CHWEET! (kisses your furry head) Kiss your sweetie for me with many hugs and squeezes, and enjoy your Christmas!

  1. second_gen

There's a part in one of his heavily edited videos where he grabs a female and tells her "Come inside!" Then, he proceeds to run outside and scream: "There are WOMMINS in here!"

    1. weejee

But look at their base's trinity of core beliefs:
      1. The earth is 6,000 years old.
      2. Jebus rode on dinosaurs with Alley Oop.
      3. Fox News is the word of God

    1. Lot_49

LBJ and North Vietnam? Chimpy and Iraq? GWB and Panama? Reagan and Grenada?

Well really all of them, Charlie. Except maybe Jimmy Carter.

          1. glasspusher

Lobster used to be a trash catch. I'll eat lobster if I'm served it, but I'll never order it. Crab, on the other hand…mmmm…

    2. glamourdammerung

      Compassionate conservative Adolf Hitler?

But in fairness, he just wanted to bust unions and put Christianity back in the public square.

    3. StillGoinGreen

I'm thinking Jesus… or THE U S OF MUTHAFUCKIN AAAYY!! Back when our leaders either owned black women, or had many babies with the black women they owned. Not now, when they just "swift boat" them – before our President can even decide that he liked someone else better all along!

      No, I'm going with Jesus.

  2. iburl

I would think the Kock brothers could at least afford a shack or a lean-to instead of a tent for their punch-sponges, but who am I to tell them what to do? They are the scheming, democracy-loathing plutocrats, not me.

  3. Antispandex

I knew, or sort of had a feeling, there was more to it. Today's liberal is more of a "drop your shit and run for it" sort of a person, than a "by any means necessary" type. All of that union vilolence stuff went out in the 30's. Oh, sure, there was a little in the 60's, but it was very unpopular!

    1. Tundra Grifter

Look up the massacre of strriking miners in Ludlow, Colorado. Or the police shooting of them on the San Francisco waterfront in the 1930's. The set-up of Joe Hill. Or…sorry, it's a long and sad roster once you get started.

      1. commiegirl99

My mama's friend Terri Grando, whom I knew when I was a little girl, was a little girl herself running down the gulch from the bullets of the National Guard in Ludlow. She was the president of the Thousand Oaks Democratic Club until my mom relieved her. She was fabulous.

    2. Negropolis

I take it you haven't been to Michigan, lately? LOL! The left here ain't afraid to cut a bitch. When the Nazis came to town in 2006, they were literally run out of town. In fact, I got caught up in it as a spectator. One of them couldn't find his way back to their convoy, got lost in the streets of downtown Lansing, was chased down and roughed up a bit before horseback officers tear gased the crowd. The crowd thn reformed, march a mile through the eastside to the diversity rally the mayor had thrown to keep people away from the protest, and demanded to be let in. lol They were then turned away and headed back to the capitol to stage a counter-protest and were met by horses crossing the Michigan Avenue Bridge back into downtown. Tear gassed again, and having lost numerous members to arrest, they <if>finally stopped. lol

I hate to admit it, but the left in our state still retains a violent element. Not like the Hoffa days, but enough that this didn't exactly surprise me when I heard about it. It's what happens when you've been neglected and beaten down for decades.

Some pics from the Nazi rally some years back:

      and Here

Michigan liberals don't run…they make other people run.

  4. BornInATrailer

In the unedited footage, did Crowder's strand of pearls get torn off and the pearls bounce around on the ground outside the tent? Because that is what I envision.

    1. HogeyeGrex

I was going to say that Crowder's pearl neclace doesn't come off without a towel, but that would be unkind.

    1. Lot_49

Speaking for the entire United States of America, I can say we do like Neil Young and Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell and those Guess Who guys.

          1. Lascauxcaveman

And we have to put an asterisk* on Burton Cummings, even though he was a Guess Who and also has a comical name, too.

        1. bobbert

Okay, I'll open myself up to some abuse here — I liked Rush.

Polyrythmic, bass-led, reasonably tuneful. What's not to like? I ignored the lyrics, because they were unintelligible. It's only in later years that I've learned that they were apparently loons.

Fuck it. I liked System of a Down, too.

    2. PuckStopsHere

I'm a fan of the Five Man Electrical Band, if it helps. The Toronto Maple Leafs, not so much. Oh, and I have actually broadcasted hockey games from both the Winnipeg Arena and Quebec's Le Colisee. True story.

  5. Lionel[redacted]Esq

FOX News has spent most of the last two days wondering why the rest of the media didn't cover this. Maybe it is because the rest of the media has learned that you can't trust a video from a contributor to Brietbart?

    1. BadKitty904

I suspect that the rest of the media, along with most true Americans, was disappointed that Chowdah didn't have quite ALL the shit beaten outta 'im…

    1. Lascauxcaveman

Really, where was Susan Rice cowering when this atrocity went down?

She doesn't deserve to wipe Hillary Clinton's ass.

      – Jamma Cain

  6. One_who_wanders

Someone said this before but there aren't enough fists in America for his face, we'd have to import some.

    With votes, of course

  7. kakotechnia

Something tells me this isn't the only arena in which Msr. Crowder has trouble finishing what he started.

  8. coolhandnuke

This is what happens when the circus comes to town…tent goes up, tent goes down., you can't explain it.

      1. coolhandnuke

As reported by Fox, it was all them filthy trustafarians and their rapings, crimings and drum beatings that brought down their house of tents. Benghazi also, too.

  9. Baconzgood

Right now Pat Robertson is thinking "I don't know why but I blame all of this on Gays wanting to get married…."

  10. Not_Mother

So after bigtime establishment conservatives like David Frum and Bruce Bartlett whistle-blow on the conservative media complex, led by the fox gang, for lying and profiteering off their echo-chamber flock, this is their big attempt to rehabilitate themselves? Fail.

  11. mormos

meh, I had kind of assumed it was a staged stunt to make unions look bad. Yes I am that paranoid. This makes more sense though.

    1. Jukesgrrl

Well, yes, that too. The tent was put up right in the middle of the union protest to be intentionally provocative. They KNEW it would be assaulted in some way and FOX would have an excuse to call union members "thugs" for another fifty years.

  12. Doktor Zoom

None of this proves whether anyone called John Lewis the n-word. Have the investigative reporters asked the Detroit police about that?

  13. LibertyLover

OK, I have to ask… the Koch brothers are filthy rich and all they can afford is a lousy tent for their operatives to operate out of? Sniveling little cheapskates.

    1. coolhandnuke

As the Lords of many a mansion, compound and estate, the Koch's journalistic apparatchik is known as the Fourth Tax Shelter.

    2. Jukesgrrl

You can bet your mother the Koch employees had luxury rooms and a hospitality suite set up for themselves in the Lexington Lansing. That tent was one step above an O'Keefe stunt.

    3. walterhwhite

They are super-cheap. The doorman at their residence on Park Ave said he has to load a lot of suitcases into their vehicles for their weekend trips to the Hamptons and they never tip him. At Christmas, they give him the going rate: $50. The Koch Bros are loathsome.

  14. Baconzgood

Mnnnnnn let's just look at this in a paralax way. If you put up a big tent dedicated to crushing labor rights in the midst of a union protest wouldn't that provoke a hostile response? Sorta like using kerosene to put out a campfire.

If anyone that isn't completely brain washed by fox doesn't see that…

Baconz problem is that I think the unions should go back to their roots. Car bombings, armed riots, shooting H. C. Frick in the neck. All with votes of course.

    1. Negropolis

When I'd heard last week that Americans for Prosperity had reserved the east lawn for their tent (the main lawn, the lawn behind the capitol is – because it's Michigan, of course – a parking lot for state legislators), I KNEW there would be trouble. Hell, they'd reserved the capitol steps, last week, and got their banner torn down. They knew this was going to happen.

  15. Baconzgood

    Unrelated to this post

I've had ads that say "from the web" on my wonkette, one is about dinosaurs and aliens (pretty cool) concept) another one has a poor man's "The Great George" Carlins coughing. And the third is a guy that is the spitting image of Baconz Ex-father in law with the same expression on his face that when I asked for Mrs. Ex-Baconz hand. Please (if you can) take off the Baconz Ex-father in law pic down and put up Latino Chilly Pepper Girl again. If this is caused my my "personal searches" let me know so I can search different porn sites on my phone.

  16. snowpointsecret

You know your political movement is hopeless when you have to fake tent attacks to make the other side look somewhat bad.

    1. BadKitty904

If you have sense (and even a nodding acquaintance with Reality), you know that. But this is Fox…

  17. TootsStansbury

The right side of the political spectrum is a giant, lying, violence provoking asshole? Go figure.

  18. BlueStateLibel

Libruls are all "violence is wrong" until they start picking up pitchforks or storming palaces. Still love that guy giving it to Chowder.

  19. TootsStansbury

You know, bullies won't stop bullying until they receive a punch in the face. Or so I've heard.

    1. TootsStansbury

I wonder what it's going to take to reach a tipping point in this woefully under-informed country. And when it is reached, I hope it's not too horrifying.

  20. TootsStansbury

OT but poor Mr. Stansbury, his innocence has been shattered. He stumbled into the fever swamps that are WND comments. He couldn't believe it. At least he knows now why I tend to rant on occasion.

    1. Jukesgrrl

I don't think wingnuts need permits in a state run by Rickie Dale Snyder. Negropolis says the mayor of Lansing is a Dem, but I still wouldn't fine the Kochs. They're liable to buy the town.

    2. Negropolis

      They did have a permit.

BTW, since it's the capitol, permits are handled through a state agency, not the city of Lansing. Go search Youtube for Virg Bernero if you want to see the mayor in action. It's too bad he ran for governor in 2010 instead of waiting until 2014, because he got a raw deal.

  21. Benny

Sun News…I can't believe we have a Fox News wannabe up here. They don't even have the comedic value, goddamn it.

  22. bibliotequetress

Anyone else here fell like the union guys showed a lot of restraint considering that, after all, this was Steve Crowder and that was the Koch Brothers tent? Little Stevie should be glad he's not wearing that tent as his burial shroud.

      1. bibliotequetress

I think I meant they showed more restraint than I could have. I happily would have done worse to Crowder although I'd have had my share of lib guilt after. Granted, I'm a proud union member, but as a short bespeckled librarian union member, I just don't have that gritty macho oomph that so many of my brethren do.

        1. Mojopo

One of my dear pals is a Holy Librarian and she could drop that turd like she power chugged a case of Activia. Or at least gives the impression that it's possible, as needed. We'll figure out how to make them fear you. I'm on your side.

      1. Weedlord BonerHitler

True story: when I first came to this country, I had a LOT of cash in my wallet. Going through customs, I was stopped by a nice man who looked in it, looked at me, counted the cash, and said, "Whatchu carryin' all that money around for? Don't you know you're liable to get whupped upside the haid?"

I had to ask for a translation.

        1. BadKitty904

SEE?!? "Whupped," as approved by the United States Bureau of Customs and Border Protection…

I didn't know you're an immigrant. How cool is that? My honeybun is native-born, like me, but his folks and grandfolks are immigrants, too. Anyways, welcome – we're glad you're here! And thank you for coming! :0)

          1. Weedlord BonerHitler

Yeah, that's me, a furrnurr born & bred. Imagine my surprise when a friend's mother gave me a book on "Furr'n Cuisine" as seen in Texas. Spaghetti and meatballs. Spaetzle. Beef bourguignon. In her defense, the book WUZ from the '50s.

Thanks, sweetie. You're my best bud. (Hugs you) And I just *love* it when someone thanks me for coming! Just LOVE it.

    1. bobbert

I hate to get into a syntax argument, Weedlord, but it's "wailing on". Or at least it has been since I was in elementary school in whateveritwas BC.

      1. Weedlord BonerHitler

Good, so don't argue. I can use bad grammar and even bad language, but that's as a matter of play. When it comes to antiquated words, and the like, I will not accept any other authority without an actual citation. I looked it up, sweetie. It's always been "whaling," if you're talking about BEATING someone. "Wailing" on someone is simply corrupt usage from the original. Thanks, I'll have my prize now.

  23. fuflans

i would like to think that the grossness of the MI legislature will be a salutary lesson for the middle class white folk who voted for republicans b/c they believe republican bullshit and, you know, kenyan in the white house.

    but it probably won't.

  24. Negropolis

God bless Michigan. The sniveling little bastards from Americans for Prosperity held a new conference in front of the capitol, today, wanting our Democratic mayor here in Lansing – Virg "Angriest Mayor in Americas" Bernro – investigate all the supposed violence against them. Go to hell, you scabs.

BTW, I'm hearing the Punchy Guy was actually an anarchist from Occupy, not that it really matters either way.

  25. Negropolis

BTW, soemthing weird happened here, today, the crazy-ass legislature voted down an NRA-backed law that would have done away with our gun registry by a health margin, though, they replaced it with a bill that would allow guns to be carried in more places.

This state has gone completely off its axis.

    1. PuckStopsHere

At least they had the good, common sense to give Illitch his 600 mill in DDA money that was to have gone to Det schools (like they need the money amiright) to build his hockey rink.

  26. Negropolis

Truly, Michigan is No Country for Young Men, Friendo, and There Will Be Blood. Now, where is Mr. Crowder's milkshake…?

    1. Jukesgrrl

That was a weird story, no? Am I correct in assuming the mastermind from the New Mexico prison was there because there are no maximum-security prisons in Vermont, where he did his heinous murder? It's great to think we might have a state that doesn't need one of those things.

      1. not that Dewey

It's a thing, but it never quite recovered from the Reservering. Photos still don't display alongside stories (with one exception — the two week old stories that appear under "hottest" when you follow that there link), and all submissions are met with an error message. Sometimes this is a legitimate error message, sometimes not. This is why several duplicate submissions appear in a row occasionally. Best strategy is to wait 10 minutes after submitting, and confirm that it went through or not, before resubmitting. One can still access "hot" stories through the "hot" tab, next to the "new" tab, but those default stories are the ones that were there the day the server migration took place.

        1. chascates

I emailed the programmers and they "are aware of the issue and are working on a solution . . . maybe next week". The mobile version of Wonkette is no longer around and my Blackberry shows a version I would have to remove my contacts to read, even at maximum magnification.

Maybe when we fall off/run into the fiscal cliff these and other issues will be resolved.

          1. not that Dewey

I can't wait to see what wonders await us at the bottom of that cliff. It'll be like Xanadu times Shangri La plus Alice in Wonderland plus Trainspotting.

The glitchy stuff takes some, but not all, of the fun out of it. The stories definitely suffer without pictures; those add tremendously to the inherent comedic value in peoples' stories. I trust that our programmers, like our Representatives in Government, have our best interests at heart.

    1. carlgt1

so Repugs want the CIA to release everything about Benghazi, but 6000-pages of our torture in the Bush wars they want to keep hushed up (still)…..

  27. Negropolis

OT: But, look at all this crazy shit that passed the Michigan legislature literally either last night or early this morning. Healines from the Lansing State Journal:

Personal property tax reform bound for Snyder's desk

Bill allowing guns to be carried in more places headed to Gov.

Citizenship declaration back on ballots under bill

Abortion bill passes, Snyder expected to sign

Michigan bill a step toward allowing wolf hunts

New Emergency Manager law headed to Snyder's desk

Again, this is just last night and this morning. This can not be legal passing these bills like this. Good lord. In a single week the Republicans have turned this place completely upside down. I can't ever remember this happening anywhere else. It's a Blitz. I'm truly dumbfounded. Snyder can't be allowed to get away with this. I'd even go so far as Justice being brought here to investigate possible conspiracy and bribery.

      1. Negropolis

Seriously, they did this when they did because they know if they'd done this before the election they'd have lost and maybe there would have even been riots. The general populace during the holiday season has absolutely no idea what's going on. That we got over 12,000 people organized to come down to Lansing on a freezing cold December morn is nothing short of amazing. Had this happened during the summer or fall, this thing would have gotten bloody.

But, believe you me, they can try to avoid retribution, but we'll be out on the streets come July the very day we're allowed to start to begin collecting signatures. They can run, but they can't hide.

BTW, though we also have a conservative-dominated court, I'm really interested to see how much of this shit gets overturned for technical reasons. As I said, with a legislature this incompetent, there is no way all of this was passed above board and no way they ended up dotting all of their "I"s and crossing their "T"s as we saw with the Right to Work law, which may not even apply to the tens-of-thousands of state employees it was written to weaken.

        1. chascates

I'm not aware of the state's demographics but I thought most of the conservatives lived in the upper peninsula (Yoopers?). Has there been a turn to the right or is talk radio and fear blanketing the state?

          1. Negropolis

Yoopers are actually pro-union, anti-interventionist populists with a socially conservative streak, so they are basically conservative Democrats. In fact, the Dem lost the district that includes the UP by only 0.6% due to Northern Michigan (below the bridge) being pretty red. The reddest areas of the state are Western Michigan and the exurbs of Detroit.

  28. Negropolis

Bwahahahaha!! The Puncher is actually a city council member in a Downriver suburb of Detroit…and he's not sorry:

Marsee says he didn't know, or care, who Crowder was. "He literally got six inches from my face."

He is not down playing the use of his dirty words, and he is not apologizing for them either. "Once I realized what he was doing, emotions took over," says Marsee. "I know it wasn't very impressive. But at the time, and I seen the camera, I seen the camera in my face. My passion for the union took over and the gentleman, he did back off. I didn't have to back off. I held my ground. That's all it was. And this union should hold their ground."

And what does Marsee have to say now to Crowder? "I guess you got what you expected, brother. You came up for a reaction. You've done this many times in the past."

And to the citizens in Melvindale? "Folks, it is what it is. You've seen me in the video. I've had a lot of phone calls of support. You know me. You either love me or hate me. I love the city of Melvindale, and that's why I'm doing what I'm doing."

LOL! He used the "stand your ground" defense!

    "Union thug" FTW.

  29. DahBoner

    inside job

Yeah, they snuck into Tower 7 in the night, laid the charges and the BOOM! Collapses and brings down the tent…

  30. dollymadison22

Steve Crowder is an evil little prick. I wish the working man had ruffed him up good. People's lives are being made harder by an unaccountable political apparatus at the behest of unaccountable economic power. Is it any surprise that people are angry?
