Daily Caller Shocker: Guy Who Worked For Union Was ‘Required’ To Do Union Stuff

by Rebecca Schoenkopf

Oh you can't scare meSorry, union thugs of the SEIU, but Tucker Carlson’s Daily Caller has got your number! And that is that you forced people who worked for you as union organizers to perform work towards attaining your stated political goals, by canvassing and stuff. Is that even legal??? Can we get James O’Keefe’s Magickal Camera to go and document the atrocities?

In a case that could have wide-ranging implications for the political future of the Service Employees International Union, a former SEIU organizer told a right-to-work group and a best-selling author recently that the union forced him and other workers to volunteer their time for Democratic political campaigns. On a video segment provided exclusively to The Daily Caller, the organizer says he and other SEIU staff “had to do some political work. We were required as staff to do that.”

Oh shit you guys. Game: Changed!

Tell us more of these horrible goings-on, Daily Caller, where you “required” people who were employed to further your political goals to work towards furthering your political goals!

“I wish it were surprising that the SEIU was coercing this organizer into supporting union boss politics, but these days that’s standard operating procedure for Big Labor,” [some guy] said in an email to TheDC.

“Organized labor’s mission has almost completely morphed from representing workers on the shop floor to pushing left-wing politics. The only difference between Big Labor and other political groups is that union officials get to force workers to contribute, instead of relying on voluntary contributions.”

Well we guess it is time to take away unions’ right to collective action, as some fine fellows are trying to do in California with the not at all malevolent and definitely not the most breathtakingly bad-faith proposition we have ever heard of, Prop. 32!

But is there more? Well, isn’t there always?

In 2006 the same union’s website sought “volunteers” who would receive “a cell phone, money for mileage, and meals [and] … a $50 stipend” for Election Day work in conjunction with the AFL-CIO. “They are looking for members to visit precincts, talk to voters, and identify problems,” the union said.

That is some serious skullduggery, these quote unquote “stipends.” If you would like to read about six more examples of such “stipends” for “volunteers” they have dug up, by all means, click through. IF YOU CAN STAND THE TERROR. I mean, it’s no paid-vacation Brooks Brothers Riot, or paying “volunteer” homeless people to wear “Obama Supporter for Brown” T-shirts, but they did pay mileage!

Wait for the Daily Caller’s next shocking expose, “Political Speechwriter: I was forced to write political speeches” and “Democratic Campaign Manager: I was required to work on Democratic campaigns.”

Wait until we have a New Black Panthers Employees Union.

sbj1964 October 29, 2012 at 10:25 am

Boo hoo,try having a boss that expects you to watch his kids at the office while he runs errands.Cheap bastard. That's what after school day care is for.

Barbara_ October 29, 2012 at 10:30 am

Oh hell no!

Jus_Wonderin October 29, 2012 at 10:48 am

I think I'd continually be asking little boss kid "show us on this doll where Daddy touches you".

I hate that shit. I used to have a owner/manager who would use his kid as an excuse for being "always fucking late". Hey asswipe, we don't have kids or responsibilities????!!!"

Katydid October 29, 2012 at 10:57 am

The top asshole in my office routinely puts out "requests" for employees to buy his kid's "fundraiser" of the week. I used to buy, feeling really pressured to do so, but now I refuse. And, surprisingly enough, he's an all-around unlikeable cocksucker to boot.

BerkeleyBear October 29, 2012 at 11:46 am

Try having a boss (who drives a brand new Mercedes and endowed a scholarship at his alma mater) who asks you if you have any plans for the weekend, then asks if you can help move his college aged daughter's shit out of his house. Oh, and she can't help because she's living off Daddy's dime in France until the day she starts grad school in DC. And you don't even get a sammich out of the damn deal.

PugglesRule October 29, 2012 at 2:47 pm

Now if the Union Thug Boss (UTB) made the guy pick up his dry cleaning, that is something to get pissed off about.

Is this meme past it's shelf life already?

Chet Kincaid_ October 29, 2012 at 10:50 am

In strictest form the meme is 3 words, and the 2nd and 3rd words have to start with the same consonant. So yes, your reckless disregard of Tradition has killed it. Pleased with yourself?! (winky)

BaldarTFlagass October 29, 2012 at 10:53 am

They are looking for members to visit precincts, talk to voters, and identify problems,” the union said.

The next logical steps: smashing the state and building Communism.

sullivanst October 29, 2012 at 10:34 am

Some time soon, they'll be forcing employees to assist with the negotiation of collectively bargained contracts. The horror! The horror!

BaldarTFlagass October 29, 2012 at 10:29 am

“volunteers” who would receive “a cell phone,"

Is it one of those free Obama phones? In 2006?

Chow Yun Flat October 29, 2012 at 10:31 am

Horrors! Almost as bad as the job I once had, doing boring stuff for eight hours a day in exchange for money.

memzilla October 29, 2012 at 10:32 am

What a pile of craptastic "Sky Blue, Water Wet" journalism. Of course, I'm prejudiced, since I'm still receiving benefits from my grandfather's membership in Horse Shoers And Bayonet Sharpeners Local 37.

Willardbot9000_V2.5 October 29, 2012 at 2:32 pm

It should come as a surprise to no one that Fucker Carl-son's big contribution to politics is to argue that poor people should not be allowed to vote. It's what he says everytime he talks about voting…that the 'informed' should be allowed to vote because they'll make 'rational' (selfish and self centered as hell) choices and that uniformed poor people are incapable of making rational choices (they especially hate unions for giving poor people a rational choice). Of course Fucker's definition of being informed is to spout GOP talking points without any regard for whether or not they are truthful…but hey he's a trust fund douchebag so he's important!

BaldarTFlagass October 29, 2012 at 10:32 am

How about those mine workers that were forced to attend a Romney rally while off the clock? Bet they would have liked to have that cell phone, mileage, meals, and a 50 dollar stipend.

Chet Kincaid_ October 29, 2012 at 10:54 am

TUCKER IS SHOUTING TO DISTRACT ATTENTION FROM ALL THAT.

BoroPrimorac October 29, 2012 at 11:15 am

They got their paychecks docked for the privilege of standing next to Romney.

Willardbot9000_V2.5 October 29, 2012 at 2:07 pm

Yes…but that's differnt because theyze workin' for the mine owners…so see he owns them. Unions don't own themz, now if you'll excuse me I need to go accuse people of lying about Romney's tax plan being deficit neutral by just claiming it's deficit neutral..that's good enough for me. < Romney supporters take.

I know and its totally different when a corporation tells their employees if that fat headed tax evader doesn't win he'll have to fire them all. Not a word from wingnuts on that one or Romney essentially telling businesses to do it…

Willardbot9000_V2.5 October 29, 2012 at 2:13 pm

That wouldn't have been the fat ass who owns Massey energy that mandated it, would it? Don Blankenship…looks like Chris Christy with a porn 'stashe. Also he's the asshole who makes campaign contributions based upon who will let him get away with negligence and homicides of his workers rather than pay to make sure the mines are safe. Of course to Republicans that's terrible to make him pay for safety becuz he's a J-A-W-B creator! Nevermind black lung or terrible benefits…that just means more openings when someone dies…

fawkedifiknow October 29, 2012 at 10:33 am

Which is worse – I can't decide – a coal company that requires it's employees to take an unpaid day off work to attend a Romney campaign event, or a union that pays its employees to do their job?

What a conundrum for the flummoxed voter.

Goonemeritus October 29, 2012 at 10:33 am

I can’t for the life of me figure out why unions wouldn’t be delighted with todays GOP.

boskolives October 29, 2012 at 10:52 am

A new union work chant, "thank you sir, may I have another but this time with a little lubricant?"

SayItWithWookies October 29, 2012 at 10:34 am

Workers of the world unite! You have nothing to lose but your $50 a day stipends and your cell phone. And your right to organize, your right to collective bargaining and eventually your right to vote altogether, but that's talk for the quiet rooms.

BerkeleyBear October 29, 2012 at 11:50 am

Well, and your right to unite (can't let those commies have meetings or anything). First Amendment? What part of this has to do with worshiping babby Jeezus on the public square?

weejee October 29, 2012 at 10:35 am

And this differs dramatically from the "King of Versailles" sending an email sent to all 7,000 of his employees serfs at Westgate Resorts, that they may want to think twice about voting for Obama if they want to keep their jobs? The hypochristie of it all.

Chet Kincaid_ October 29, 2012 at 10:56 am

WHAT!? TUCKER CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER ALL THIS UNION THUGGERY!

Nope. I've not seen that anywhere, save the 'tubes.

BaldarTFlagass October 29, 2012 at 10:36 am

"the union forced him and other workers to volunteer their time for Democratic political campaigns."

Well, if you are in a union and you are even thinking about volunteering or voting Republican, you obviously have an IQ that ranges somewhere between that of a cucumber and cold glass of water.

It's a grand exercise in political organizing and honorable service when Koch Brother pays Dick Armey to organize a Dick Army (aka Teabaggers) so they won't pay those tyrannical extra taxes on their bajillions.

PsycWench October 29, 2012 at 10:58 am

But did Joe Biden write this poor wretch a thank-you note?

Come here a minute October 29, 2012 at 10:59 am

“Political Speechwriter: I was forced to write political speeches”

Sure, go ahead and laugh, but some of those speeches ended up on [shudder] TELEPROMBTERZ!!1!!!!11!

Lot_49 October 29, 2012 at 11:00 am

You know the Daily Tucker is as much a parody as The Onion because they call it "big" labor.

In 1987, United States unionization was 37 points below the average of seventeen countries surveyed, down from 17 points below average in 1970. Between 1970 and 1987, union membership declined in only three other countries: Austria, by 3%, Japan, by 7%, and the Netherlands, by 4%. In the United States, union membership had declined by 14%.

weejee October 29, 2012 at 11:01 am

She sure is starting to huff and puff… my sister in law lives in Freeport, so we're playing host. There were already streets flooded last night at high tide, without the winds even being felt much by then. Tonight's high tide is gonna be the big one.

pinkocommi October 29, 2012 at 11:02 am

Wait. This is totally inconsistent with the Republican meme that unions exist to prevent any work from being done. So, improvement!

Mittens Howell, III October 29, 2012 at 11:02 am

Engaging with Tucker is like having a conversation with last months cum sock.

thatsitfortheother1 October 29, 2012 at 11:19 am

Mittens Howell, III October 29, 2012 at 11:27 am

CrunchyKnee October 29, 2012 at 11:04 am

"Organized labor’s mission has almost completely morphed from representing workers on the shop floor to pushing left-wing politics."

So, it has come down to that giving employees the right to organize and collectively bargain is LEFT-WING POLITICS? No wonder these hacks think Obama with his center-right ways is a commie. Nixon? Socialist. Eisenhower? Commie.

SigDeFlyinMonky October 29, 2012 at 11:05 am

barto October 29, 2012 at 11:50 am

I dunno, I heard somewheres that Big Coal was forcing their "workers" to do political stuff without any pay whatsoever. Probably just a rumor, though.

BoroPrimorac October 29, 2012 at 11:55 am

OT: Nate Silver has Hopey up 296 to 241 on the electoral vote, with a 74.6% chance of winning the election.

Princeton electoral consortium has him up 305 to 233 on the electoral vote with a 91% chance that he'll win re-election.

Incitefully_Joe October 29, 2012 at 12:11 pm

So just to be clear:

Using general corporate funds to finance compaigns without shareholder input: perfectly okay

Mine owners forcing employees to participate in campaign events and give up a day's pay for the privilege: perfectly okay

Other CEOs sending threatening mass-emails to employees, telling them that they'll get fired if the election goes the "wrong" way: not only perfectly okay, but more people should be doing that.

Union organizers being given a stipend for organizing union-members in some way on election day that is "political" but for some reason studiously only implies that this means "partisan": Well that's complete thuggery.

bibliotequetress October 29, 2012 at 1:39 pm

Oh my god! My employer also expects me to work!! So unfair! Who do I sue?

bibliotequetress October 29, 2012 at 1:48 pm

"In 2006 the same union’s website sought “volunteers” who would receive 'a cell phone, money for mileage, and meals [and] … a $50 stipend' for Election Day work in conjunction with the AFL-CIO. 'They are looking for members to visit precincts, talk to voters, and identify problems,' the union said."

So the Daily Caller is taking a bold stand against…poll watchers?

Back in 88, after working our volunteer shift as poll watchers in a small town south of Richmond VA, a Repub poll watcher also leaving noticed my friend & I walking to my car with a Dukakis sticker on it. He gassed his car and made a run at me, slamming on the breaks to a skid stop about three feet away.. Hahaha it was so funny.
