Quite! Mater suggested this AM that the President could possibly be an African Negro, subject to verification of his Certificate of Birth or Immigration. Of course.

1. littlebigdaddy

Total racism. It's ok to be "Whitey" Ford. But you never hear about "N-word" Washington.

1. Boojum

So, I just watched it on TPM. It reminded me how his focus has always been on healing and overcoming division. Tks, Drudge.

1. actor212

The funny thing is, every news outlet covered it this morning.

…by pointing out that they had covered it five years ago and thought it was pretty pedestrian. Even FOX News gave it a miss at the time.

Tucker claims that he covered it, but only the released text of the speech.

Errr, Tucks? That means YOU DIDN'T COVER IT! You read a speech, just like I did.

You are not a journalist, you have no business claiming to report on ANYthing, and you should just die by choking on votes.

1. CthuNHu

The first two Whitey Tapes having failed, Drudge came up with a bold plan, which he called the Other, Other, Whitey Tape. This, for the barely closeted hatstand, was the turning point.

2. Mahousu

Turns out it was just Obama giving a long, somewhat tedious critique of Average White Band, back when he was in college.

3. SorosBot

The whole “THE ACCENT… THE ANGER… THE ACCUSATIONS…” bullshit hype seems ripped off of the opening to Xena; you know "THE POWER … THE PASSION … THE DANGER", only Xena was not a racist like Drudge, and I would love to see her kick his sorry closeted ass and slice that stupid hat of his in half.

4. SexySmurf

I've actually already seen the tape. It shows Obama hugging TWO black guys, then an Eskimo, high-fiving a Chinaman, and finishing by chest bumping a one-eyed Nicaraguan.

1. 102415

Chet, that was sweet. I loved the outfit at the end. Some of those kids though looked about 40.

1. bobbert

Of course not. Even most white people who said it were just playing, not actual wiggers. Calvin was / is an entertainer, yes?

1. sullivanst

Opening statement:

Yeaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh, boyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

I suppose in this scenario Biden must be Terminator X.

5. RaflcaFlkaFlame

The WHIIIITEEEEEY tape already dropped in 08! It was Michelle saying "why'd he." But why'd he, whitey … same thing. Let's not split hairs!

6. SayItWithWookies

I love it when spittle-flecked screamers with every vein in their forehead and neck throbbing manage to characterize our president as angry. Go through Mitt's fuckin' Boca Raton speech and see the only times he gets enervated — it's when he describes those who aren't paying Federal income tax as "entitled." I don't know what they're gonna try to stick on President Obama this time, but one thing's for sure about Mitt — his loathing of the less monied is 100% sincere.

1. tessiee

President Obama is "angry" and "militant" all the times that he is not "weak" and "in over his head".

2. LionHeartSoyDog

It's amazing to me: People who are so poor that they don't qualify to pay federal taxes are somehow "entitled."
And the 1%rs somehow forget that anybody who buys gasoline or shops for food is already paying tax, whether they can afford it or not.
I would like to see in the debate: O demolish Rmoney so severely that even the teabagz are embarrassed.

7. WhatTheHeck

This Whitey tape soon to be turned into a major motion picture: “TRANSFORMERS – THE WHITE SIDE OF THE MOON”

1. Negropolis

Hell, you'd hit the ocean if it waved at you…

I think the real question is what wouldn't you hit?

1. YouBetcha

Justin Beiber, Herman Cain, Ann Coulter, and Dick Morris.

OK yeah, so admittedly that's a pretty short list of people I wouldn't hit.

8. SorosBot

I'm sure this will be a perfectly cromulent video and a real game-changer; I mean, remember when the ghost of Breitbart promised a video that would destroy Obama, and it turned out it showed that he once actually hugged a black guy. And not just any black guy, but a Harvard Law professor!

That's why Romney is ahead by 10 points today – in the real unscewed polls at least!

1. MissTaken

Tomorrow Mitt will be ahead by 115 points in the unscewed polls. Barry won't even show up to the debate. Instead he'll just FedEx over the the keys to AF1 and let Mitt become President immediately. By Thursday, unemployment will drop to .0017% and gas will cost 13 cents a gallon.

1. SorosBot

The Dow will rise to 50,000 points, and working peons all over will agree to provide free labor in return for whatever scraps our employers deign to give us!

9. MonkeyHamlet

I am saddened and disappointed that a serious journalistic outlet like Wonkette would give publicity to a Turdge Report "bombshell" that will likely be a massive turd serving only to widen the racial divide in our beloved U. S of A. That said, I can't wait for Mitty's Moroni white ass to be red as a injun chief when the blah brotha woops it on Nov. 6.

1. shelwood46

You probably had a problem with the 12 stories the Wonks did on Geraldo opening Capone's safe, the cultural touchstone of our time.

1. BloviateMe

It's actually not that bad if you make him put some ky on his hand…he's got a decent cadence to his stroke.

1. SorosBot

Christ; if that's really what they're doing, that's pathetic. And really, Rev. Wright again? These guys sound like a broken record. Are they going to realize nobody besides they and their fellow racists give a flying fuck about that bullshit?

1. BerkeleyBear

Alinsky to Ayers to Wright. They figure they say it enough it will replace Tinkers to Evers to Chance in the public mindset of 60 years ago.

1. tessiee

I had a college course in speech and hearing where the instructor helped us remember the three small bones in the ear (Incus, Malleus, and Stapes a/k/a Hammer, anvil, and stirrup), by likening them to Tinkers to Evers to Chance: "Bobby Incus hits it to Bubba Malleus, who throws it to Roberto Stapes".

2. kingofmeh

it's drudge. the only thing that would be surprising is if it wasn't sad and pathetic, wasn't tired and old, and was actually something interesting instead of a shameless attempt to get page views for non-news.

3. HistoriCat

I regret that I don't have better A/V skills – I would really like to have "God DAMN America!" as my ring tone.

2. imissopus

So Obama, speaking to an audience at an historically black university, spoke about issues affecting the black community? Ah do b'leeve Ah have the vapors.

1. Limeylizzie

These people are so sickening, this will make no difference whatsoever, but I really hope that Obama's oppo-research has got some tricks up their sleeves anyway.

1. actor212

Listen, they got the 47% video out even before October, so you know there's some juice to come. The only thing holding it back is Mitt's such a miserable campaigner, they haven't felt threatened enough.

1. Limeylizzie

I assume you are right, because we haven't see much from them as yet. I can't imagine they haven't unearthed some real gems.

1. Lionel[redacted]Esq

You know, other than FOX News covering it for a couple of days, and even then being drown out by the debate, and then FOX complaining about the rest of the media not covering it for the next four years, no one is going to care who is voting for Obama.

10. KeepFnThatChicken

Is this Barry's audio book again? Jesus fuck! If right wingers would read, maybe they would be aware of this.

But as my beloved president has said before, "There are white people, and then there are ignorant motherfuckers like you."

11. sudsmckenzie

Drudge Siren, should I slow down, or pull over on The Internet, or order a Fedora online?

1. BigSkullF*ckingDog

But haven't you been paying attention to the commercials? He managed to have some daughters who don't hate him and that table full of old white men think he's the bees knees.

1. Nostrildamus

Haven't seen the first, but I see that Geritol commercial all the fucking time! Being of the testicular persuasion, I guess they figure I'm obsessively interested in the impotent whinings of incontinent hemorrhoid sufferers.

Which brings us back to Drudge …

1. CommieDad

I got a call last night from a push polling firm working for McKenna. When asked, I said the fact that Jay Inslee was a DC insider would make me more likely to vote for him. I also like that he voted against repealing the marriage penalty (people should stay single) and that he supports an energy tax that would cost 25 million Washington state jobs.

They never asked if I would vote against McKenna if I found out he was a woman. I think he might actually have a chance if he was a woman (in Washington State that is a huge political plus). They're debating tonight, so let's hope!

1. MissTaken

Updates #1 through #15547: The President is a black who had a pastor who is also a black.

Enjoy your concert!

1. Designer_Rants

"'BAMA COMIN'!"
*'Bama leans against United States' wall, lights a menthol; a sack full of 330 electoral college votes falls from the 2nd-story window and lands at his feet*

1. Angry_Marmot

No offense, Drudge, but that's some weak-ass thinking. You equivocating like a motherfucker.

1. tessiee

Upon discovering this information, Lionel Hampton cancelled his speaking engagement at Obama University.

12. MissTaken

I was promised a 'curious tape dropping tonight' on the twitter. This smells more like a curious turd dropping. Who do I contact at Drudge for a refund?

1. rickmaci

No kidding. When Dick Chaney kept saying "blame it all on the black guy", I thought he meant Colin Powell.

2. ProgressiveInga

HALF black, y'all. If you have a problems with a black being in charge, vote for the white half!

1. Negropolis

White Obama/Biden 2012!

As long as the white half keeps the black half in check, everything should be alright, white folks.

13. Mojopo

Dear Jeebus, please permit the GOP to blow another racial dog whistle on Debate Eve. Please open the door for another social issue this season that the GOP is always standing on the wrong side of, and please allow the President to answer those questions.

1. Mojopo

There isn't enough Fabreeze, is what I'm saying. Do I spent the next 5 weeks drunk, do I take up Zen meditation – should I kill my Internets and live in peace?

1. SorosBot

Well I'm spending the next five weeks packing and moving in with my girlfriend, cross-country; that works as well as a distraction from the bullshit. I recommend it!

1. MissTaken

My place is itty-bitty, but there's sleeping space in the bathtub. A lot better than all this shit.

2. Mojopo

Awwww, congrats to you two love birds. No snark. That's awesome – much happiness ahead for you both!

1. OldWhiteLies

You seem to be inviting us all to move in with Miss T. But unless you two are starting a commune (GASP), I'm thinking you didn't actually mean it that way.

I shall however await your response – or actor212's, whichever comes first.

1. OldWhiteLies

Well, just going on memory of the drinkythingy pics, I'd say needz moar hair and beads, and squinty round specs. So seems like you have a lot of work to do.

And wouldn't you need the bathtub to grow weed?

2. Blueb4sinrise

I'm packed, just waiting for an email from Rebecca…………….
waiting…………..
waiting…………..
waiting…………..

1. Blueb4sinrise

Actually, that was just a ploy to make FakaktaSouth jealous.

waiting…………..
waiting…………..
waiting…………..

2. Monsieur_Grumpe

Kill your TeeVee, burn the radio, give your computer to a charity and stay drunk 24/7. I will send you an letter when it is over… if I survive.

14. MosesInvests

ZOMG-a black man "talks black" when talking to a black audience! What next-will Jews start throwing Yiddish words into the conversation when talking to other Jews?! (Yes).

1. tessiee

"will Jews start throwing Yiddish words into the conversation when talking to other Jews?!"

Nu, so why shouldn't they? What kind of meshugena question is that?

2. Jukesgrrl

Don't y'all remember how Clinton talks when he goes to Arkansas? He morphs into a totally different person. Even Hillary speaks differently when she's there.

1. tessiee

When I visit NJ, my Jersey accent comes back like I never left. The Former Mr. Tessie used to say, "You're back an hour, you go feral".

1. Mojopo

His brown face routine gave Obama a 70% approval rating with the Hispanic community, so I'm really hoping Mitt turns out in a dashiki this time to seal the deal.

2. SexySmurf

Articulate a coherent and consistent economic policy?

Who am I kidding? That will never happen.

15. rickmaci

Perfect. And on the same evening we learned that Paul Lie'n thinks 30% of Americans are a permanent class of welfare queens.

1. Sharkey

You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing queen, feel the beat from the tambourine
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, diggin' the dancing queen

2. Negropolis

You know, the Welfare Queen only comes with a Buger King tiara, but it ain't all bad. I mean, you're gifted a Cadillac sans elevator.

16. Mittens Howell, III

Continually refreshing the Drudge report is like stamping out a flaming bag of dog-shit.

1. Jukesgrrl

You know, I have never once in my life called up the Drudge Report. I hear enough about him when I'm trying not to. He's like OJ, the Twilight movies, and Kim Kardashian.

1. carlgt1

ah yes it is in a way – but that has been "edited" to be 9 minutes long — Hannity has the full 40 minutes which contains 31 extra minutes of coded anti-white-man stuff apprently….

17. a_pink_poodle

Oh I thought we were going to see how Obama was too black for America or something. All I see is an Eddie Murphy sketch.

18. Left_Leftie

My guess: Obama Karaoke. He is singing Wild Cherry's hit "Play that Funky Music White Boy"

1. bobbert

As long as it isn't Buckcherry. I got really tired of that song (my kids were just the wrong age).

1. BaldarTFlagass

The leader of my personal security detail in Afghanistan was a 6-1/2 foot Scot named Al Cherry, most everyone called him Big Al, but for his personal email addy he chose BigNeneh@etc. I'd never heard of her…

19. MissTaken

'We don't need to build more highways out in the suburbs. We should be investing in minority-owned businesses, in our neighborhoods'…

Oh my! Where's my smelling salts?

1. Biff

We need to talk. If we keep Nickelback, you gotta repatriate celine and Anne Murray, and we also get Anna Silk and Red Gereen, OK?

1. tessiee

The other day, when the guy at my supermarket gave me my change, I said, slightly sarcastically, "All RIGHT! A nickel back!" Then I mused aloud, "Now there's a sentence you don't hear often."

1. BaldarTFlagass

That AV Club writer has the Wonkette rhythm. I wonder what his Intense Debate boardname is.

2. tessiee

"Can't you see that you're not making Christianity better, you're just making rock'n'roll worse?" — Hank Hill

3. DerrickWildcat

When Stapp was on Fox and Friends, did Gretchen ask good Christian Soldier Stapp about his drinking problems, Domestic Abuse and Sex Tape with Kid Rock?
Just curious.
Seems like he fits in well with the other GOP Musicians like The Nuge and Hank Jr.

20. Abernathy

I bet the tape sounds a little like this:

It ain't easy being white
It ain't easy being brown

21. YouBetcha

"Sorry guys. My bad. This video has been out for a long time. Nothing to see here. Actually, it's a pretty good speech." <—— words you will never hear on Fox News.

22. SwanSwanH

No snark, no bullshit: It's evidently fixed now, but just a few minutes ago the headline link to the story on Drudge, and the photo, went to Romney's contribute page. Wow.

1. docterry6973

How very strange. It's almost as if the Drudge story and the Romney campaign were somehow related. So odd.

23. Generation[redacted]

Let's hope they don't find that picture of the Clintons looking like hippies in 1970.

24. fuflans

well i hope it has some legs b/c i'm optimistic that paul ryan's '30% of america wants to be a welfare queen' remarks will.

and they're way newer.

25. fuflans

oh for fuck's sake. if the delirious right had anything bigger than 'teleprompters' and 'arugula', they would have released it long ago.

drudge is just jealous of mother jones cause they do his job better.

26. Jerri

Watch, it's just Obama reading the sweary parts of his audiobook dubbed over video from his convention speech or something.

27. cheetojeebus

Drudge and his fukkin fedora-which btw is more Annie Hall and less Edward Morrow, even his trumped up shit sounds like some cheesy chain email hoax that's been in more spam folders than friggin ersatz viagra ads. christ, give it up you fukkin cathouse douche bag. gah ! I hate this guy.

1. docterry6973

If Drudge felt anything but contempt for anyone other than himself, it would be a step up for him. He needs to go through a couple more growth cycles before he can aspire to loving another human of either gender.

28. gullywompr

ZOMG, it's him in 2007 criticizing the government's response to Katrina! And mentions that Rev. Wright is his pastor! Finally proof that Obama hates whitey!

Hannity and Tucker Carlson are diagramming his sentences on Fox right now – pretty damning stuff (spoiler, it's not damning at all, Hannity and Carlson are pathetic girlie losers)

1. Blueb4sinrise

Hannity and Carlson are pathetic girlie losers

Hey, all that matters is that they love each other.

29. Pres.Beeblebrox

The accent … the accusations … the agony of knowing that the best your party can do for opposition research is to dig up a tape that everyone knew existed already containing criticism of what was widely regarded as a colossal emergency management fuckup.

Well played, boys, well played.

1. Mojopo

I couldn't have selected a better Secret Tape Strategy from the Harriett Carter catalog if I tried!

30. weejee

Looks like Hannity & Carlson are again going with transmitting SOS¹ signals in a vain attempt to rally their demoralized F Troopers.

1. same olde shitte

31. ProgressiveInga

If you're having campaign problems, I feel bad for you, son
Barack's got 99 problems, but a Mitt ain't one.

32. Terry

Why on Earth would Obama give a speech hating on white people? His beloved mother and grandparents were, uh, white. He talks about them in glowing terms. Why would he turn around and trash white people? The answer is that he wouldn't.

1. Negropolis

Love you, but that's really not a good defense. Some of the most ardent -ists are self-haters, and lots of mixed-race individuals eventually grow up and reject one side of their family.

see: "Some of my best friends/relatives are _____!"

1. Terry

Yeah, that's my particular problem. Not so much anymore since most of them became independents out of shame, though.

2. docterry6973

Yeah, but his father was an irresponsible Kenyan anti-colonialist. Or Honolulu communist poet. Either way.

33. chascates

The GOP's Intellectual Marines
Landing in their little videos
Capture nothing
But take many casualties
The biggest casualty
Is the Truth

(brought to you by the Jim Beam I should have saved for tomorrow's debate.)

1. SorosBot

Not after 9PM, at least not here in Pennsylvania. And actually not after 7PM on Mondays and Tuesdays at most State Stores.

34. Not_Mother

Wait. But doesn't this speech vitiate , void, forfeit , fuck it, make Barry a Christian, you know, with Black Liberation Theology. Therefore, not a muslinkenyancommiemarxist? Also, too.

35. CthuNHu

OMG you guys Obama is done look what they found!!!

Obama ends his speech this way:

“America will survive. Just like black folks will survive. We won’t forget where we came from. We won’t forget what happened 19 months ago, or 15 years ago, or 300 years ago.”

Three hundred years ago. It’s a reference the audience understood.

That's like not something most white people would get, but I've read about black people and the things they say and that's TOTALLY a reference to SLAVERY.

OMG you guys he is talking to BLACK people about SLAVERY!!!! He is SO RACIST!!!

1. BaldarTFlagass

That's a real nice series you got going on there, Dok. I only hope that, if I ever meet you in person, you really do look and sound like Sterling Hayden, because I always read your posts in his voice.

1. CthuNHu

I believe somewhere in Chapter 5, "Non-Sacred Cultures: The Taint Of The Earth," it was in a box on the lower right-hand page under the heading "Mohammedanism's Legacy In Africa."

1. Sassomatic

Oh My God the black people are coming to take revenge! Slave revolt! Slave revolt! Retroactive fucking slave revolt!

36. chascates

The nut blogs are ablaze. Apparently this is what they've been waiting for! The ACTUAL PROOF that Barack Obama KNOWS that white people have been grossly unfair to blacks, that this still continues, and that only concerted government action can blunt racism.

Wait, what?

The Accent…the Anger…the Accustations — Sean Hannity’s Obama Tape http://hillbuzz.org/the-accent-the-anger-the-accu

tape is from 2006, before Barack Obama seriously decided to run for President in 2008

* Reverend Jeremiah Wright is in the audience (so good chance it’s Chicago)

* “We don’t need to build more highways in the suburbs”…is a quote Drudge says is in the video. This sounds like a Rainbow Push sort of speech.

* Drudge has the picture up where he’s shouting angrily…if this is from the Hannity video then it might be at a Rainbow Push meeting because it looks like it’s in a stadium or arena or something and not a traditional stage venue

* Obama is speaking candidly to a crowd in much the same way he spoke to that gaggle of large Democrat donors in the Getty Mansion in San Francisco back in early 2008 when he made his infamous remark that Pennsylvanians were “bitter-clingers” who wouldn’t give up their guns or their religion

* this is keeping with Obama’s long-held habit of saying whatever the group in front of him wanted to hear and doing it in language that disparaged other elements of the Democrat voting coalition; Democrat internal politics are all about playing one group against another even if all of them vote Democrat…so just as rich San Franciscans loved it when Obama mocked rural Pennsylvania Democrats it’s very common for black audiences to thoroughly enjoy speeches talking about how evil and terrible white people are and how racism is responsible for all the ills in black people’s lives (with no personal accountability for their own financial situations ever expected of them)

* I’ve received no less than 25 emails already asking me if I know what is on the tape and all I can say is that I’d bet any money it was made in Chicago; there’s actually a very good chance it could be from some cable access show here because there are a lot of these for the black audience and hardly any of this footage ever makes it into the general public’s view. The tape could also be from a fundraiser or some Jesse Jackson event. There are a lot of possibilities.

* My boyfriend Justin’s mom CarolAnne has now called the house 7 times to make sure that Justin finds a way to watch this episode of Sean Hannity’s show. CarolAnne is one way I determine if a story has saturated the country with excitement. If it reaches her in Arkansas and she thinks it’s important enough to call Justin more than once about it, then people are running up and down the streets somewhere telling their neighbors to fire up the tee-vee and set about watching this BREAKING NEWS.

1. SorosBot

I somehow got sucked in to participating in the medidate thread; there's a couple very prolific wingnuts who are screaming this proves Obama is a racist who hates white people. Of course these same morons also claim the media hushed up Rev. Wright in 2008; yeah if by hushed up you mean "kept talking about over and over again".

2. Pres.Beeblebrox

* My boyfriend Justin’s mom CarolAnne has now called the house 7 times to make sure that Justin finds a way to watch this episode of Sean Hannity’s show. Seriously? It's obvs. over for Bams if CarolAnne knows about this.

1. bobbert

Actually, it's not clear where Justin stands on this, if his moms has to call him seven times to get his attention.

1. TribecaMike

Scott Brown neglected to mention Thomas the other night, which proves Elizabeth Warren is a racist.

37. imissopus

Newell, on the Twitterz: "Maybe the party that is polling 0% for prez among black people should try to figure out why many were upset following Katrina."

1. carlgt1

Repugs will then spin that Bush really said "heck of a job, brownie" – as encouragement to African-Americans coping with such a terrible event!

38. Incitefully_Joe

You know what's embarrassing about all of this, for the GOP? If the right wing really wanted to sound the "OMG OBAMA IS BLACKCK" dogwhistle just in time for the debate, they really circulated this (six-year-old, thoroughly covered) video way too late to have any impact, by deciding to make this a big deal on late evening, Debate Eve.

Romney doesn't have enough time to formulate a coherent attack over this, so either he ignores it entirely, in which case its only purpose is to demonstrate the hamfisted efforts the right is going to in order to stoke racial wedge politics this time around, or he follows their lead and launches an ill-considered attack without all that much prep work behind it, in which case, Scott Brown's Indian Panic really does become prologue for the Presidential debates, also to Romney's detriment.

The thing to remember -and at least the activist/"news" wing of the GOP has clearly long forgotten this- is that while a lot of middle-class whites are receptive to racialized messaging, it tends to only be insofar as they are also granted deniability; if the message is simply OBAMA IS BLACK AND HAS THOUGHTS ABOUT BLACK AMERICA AND DID WE MENTION THAT HE'S BLACKC???!! -which is really all this line of argument consists of thus far- then you're really gunning for 27% of the vote at that point.

If they had another day or two to marinate the argument, throw out some rationalizations, and generally desensitize white voters to the bald racism behind this effort, they might actually have had an effect, but 24 hours before the debate? Way the fuck too soon to have the impact they want. This is Backwards B territory, frankly.

1. Incitefully_Joe

Disagree, and here's why:

A few commentators on the left have noted, and I'm sure Republican strategists are aware as well, that the two dominant anti-Obama narratives- that he is a) an empty suit in over his head; and b)a sinister Antichrist figure deliberately destroying America- are contradictory and mutually exclusive. Pivoting from one to the other is awkward and offers a pretty obvious vulnerability.

Now, for the past week, the Romney campaign has been focused on attacking Obama on competancy grounds, over Libya, and it's hard to see them making that choice knowing that something like this was upcoming.

No, what I think happened is that someone pointed Drudge to this old video (which has been on Youtube LITERALLY this entire time), and he more or less immediately started to tease it, deciding on a late release in order to give him enough time to actually come up with a lede based on it. Everything about this seems way too half-cocked and out-of-step with the campaign to suggest that there was any actual coordination happening. Not to mention the fact that Romney's campaign leaks more than a sieve, so it's hard to see this move catching anyone by surprise like it has.

1. sullivanst

What's particularly amusing to me is the way that Fucker is spinning it as allegedly newsworthy, in that he's pointing out that the speech was given without a prompter and this explains why there are some deviations from the prepared remarks (actually, that attempt at forming a causative link is bullshit, Obama often deviates from prepared remarks even when using a prompter, because he keeps editing the speeches he co-writes even after the prepared remarks go out to the media).

In other words, he's stomping on his, and the rest of the right's, carefully cultivated myth of Obama being dependent on prompters.

2. IceCreamEmpress

"So, Mr. Obama, are you still black?" Mittens asks, smugly.

He's been studying the video for weeks.

1. tessiee

"The thing to remember -and at least the activist/"news" wing of the GOP has clearly long forgotten this- is that while a lot of middle-class whites are receptive to racialized messaging, it tends to only be insofar as they are also granted deniability"

This?
Is an interesting observation, and probably pertinent to all those people who say things like, "I just don't like him", or a damn lot of them, anyway. If you said, "You mean because he's black?", they'd be all, "No! God, no!", appalled and highly indignant, because somehow, even they don't realize that that's why.*

*Not that I'm suggesting that that's the only reason anyone could have; it just seems to me that there are an awful lot of people who dislike him and don't know why.

1. Incitefully_Joe

Honestly, I can't really say it's really my own observation; it's just a reformulation, for clarity, of Lee Attwater's famous Southern Strategy admission. The "abstraction" from the overt white supremacism of the mid-20th is very much about giving middle-class whites "permission" to support the same racist agenda into the Civil Rights era, by making the racist intent of those policy positions more and more deniable.

1. Chet Kincaid_

Why do they think this stuff will work in 2012, when it didn't work in 2008? Obama is as black today as he was then. They aren't going to change the minds of any Obama voters, or get any more Bigot Strategy voters to the polls now then they did then. (I decided not to use "Southern Strategy" for accuracy and in fairness to my friend Fakakta.)

1. natl_[redacted]_cmdr

I remember watching Mary Todd on the tv w/ Caroline and little John John.

[too soon?]

1. docterry6973

Yeah, that's what the Warren Commission wants you to believe. The truth is out there, people!!!

2. IceCreamEmpress

People are dumb all over. 30% of people in the UK thought Sherlock Holmes was real, and 15% thought that Winston Churchill was fictional.

1. SorosBot

To be fair, the brave heroic Winston Churchill we're taught about in history class is pretty much fictional, as opposed to the racist alcoholic asshole that actually existed.

39. imalittleteap0t

Pitch on "tape" altered- sure there are other recordings of this that would demonstrate that they are manipulating the source material. Of course, they're holding the "Whitey BBQ" tape for the real October surprise. Michelle guts a pig (cop, non-union, bastard)!

40. Pres.Beeblebrox

Ok, let's think this through. Rmoney is polling zero point zero percent among blah voters. So Strategy One was to keep the blahs, the brownz, and the Olds from the polls though bullshit ID requirements and voter purging. Oops, that worked out real well in OH and PA. So on to Strategy Two. Blahs will stay away from the polls, because apathy, so emphasize how much the economy sux balls. Wait… Voter reg drives and 47% tape, you say? Strategy Three: release a known tape of a blah Senator firing up his base and blow racial dog whistles all over the place. Well…they might just have taken care of that apathy if they keep this in the news cycle for more than a couple of days.

Fux Noose demonstrates how easy it is to be simultaneously incompetent and a mouthpiece for the RNC.

1. SayItWithWookies

Others found a transcript of Obama's prepared statements. These sources did not contain all of the quotes teased by Drudge, which suggest the remarks were off the cuff.

Ha — the DailyCaller page with the video of the whole speech cites a transcript released to the press — so the speech that Senator Obama made public because he was a public figure rather than some sort of underground agitator like the DC wants to portray him was the source of the quotes.

And the other theory of why they got the quote wrong — that the quote on Drudge was bullshit — turns out to be the right guess. The quote about how Obama wanted more of "our people" to do the work in New Orleans, alleging that it's somehow racist — he actually said "our young people," as in America's underprivileged and underemployed youth. So — elision and deliberate misinterpretation totally change the meaning.

1. IceCreamEmpress

Ha ha ha ha it's like they couldn't see irony if it walked right up to them and dopeslapped their igmo bigot heads.

2. Radiotherapy

The other thing about this is that I never understood what exactly Rev. Wright said that was so offensive or racist.

1. natl_[redacted]_cmdr

some of it was critical of government policies therefore "un-American" i.e. racist because only white Americans are "Real Americans", according to racist white Americans.

shipping jobs overseas and stashing cash in offshore accounts instead of paying taxes to build schools and roads to help Americans = awesome in their eyes

3. bobbert

Wonkers, I hate say this, but this is one of our fellow citizens. I hold out a slim hope that it might be straight-faced snark, but it's far more likely to be an example of why we can't have nice things.

41. SayItWithWookies

DC has the full video of Obama's speech here. I'm not quite sure what they found to be incriminating or scandalous — I'd say that parts of it were not completely inspiring, and parts of it were too religious for my taste, but on the whole it had the proper amount of righteous indignation, hope in human potential, moral philosophical underpinnings and clear policy goals that made me want to stand up and cheer.

But I'm contradicting the party that's still certain they found WMDs in Iraq, so what the fuck do I know?

1. Pres.Beeblebrox

Which, I might add, was breathlessly flogged on Drudge's site. I don't have the stomach to go back into his archives, but I remember one of his siren alerts in ALL CAPS, BOLD, UNDERLINE:

IS THIS "IT"???

…over a photo of a patent drawing of a hovercraft-looking device.

Yeah, for a minute I thought everyone was gonna have hover skateboards like in Back to the Future II.

42. Burgdorf

Soo, the article on the foxnews website is claiming the "unedited video" shows all this stuff.
Forgive me for saying, but I doubt all those gigantic lens flare wipes happened live in real time.

43. Biel_ze_Bubba

*yawn*
Nice try at a jump-start, Drudge, but it looks like the Faux News outrage machine has finally run out of gas. A garden snail has more legs than this 'story".

44. natl_[redacted]_cmdr

Wonkette, after dark…

"Once in the background, more cheerleader than consultant, Mrs. Romney is asserting herself with new force as the campaign enters its final weeks"

"asserting herself with new force"

Pegging.

You're welcome.

1. tessiee

Was she somehow not asserting herself with the "You People" and "This is HARD!" gaffes?
Or is it not considered asserting when it backfires?

1. SayItWithWookies

Motive always a Q in journalism, but Katrina comments were news–certainly if bar is Romney cutting someone's hair in HS.

Wait — then-Senator Obama's comments about how it was unjust that Congress waived a ten-percent local financial kick-in after 9/11 and Hurricane Whatsit that devastated lots of Florida but refused to waive the same requirements for the Katrina rescue and cleanup efforts?

I continuously fail to understand how the right can post inspiring speeches by Barack Obama and then fabricate quotes out of them and expect not to be called on it. I'd pity them enough to help with the rules if I didn't know they'd only use them to turn the world into an ashen, sere, lifeless hellhole.

1. Incitefully_Joe

Motive always a Q in journalism, but Katrina comments were news–certainly if bar is Romney cutting someone's hair displaying the textbook red flags of a sociopath in HS.

Edited for accuracy, and suddenly the Katrina comments don't look quite as newsworthy any more.

45. Bezoar

I know I'm late for the party, but I want to go on record expressing my scorn for these defective rat fuckers and their pathetic flaccid attempt at race-baiting. Jeesus.

46. ElPinche

Did Dr. Who hit the time reset button? Is this 2008 again? The GOPcon dumbfucks are even outraging again over this crikey fucking rerun as if it was brand new ("It's over for Obama!" ) . I'm embarrassed for them , I really am.

47. tessiee

"Matt Drudge Has Found Barack Obama’s Whitey Tape For Real This Time He Swears"

I just realized that this is one of those "Eats, Shoots, and Leaves" dealies. Is it:
Matt Drudge has found Barack Obama's Whitey tape — for real this time, he swears.
or is it:
Matt Drudge has found Barack Obama's Whitey tape — for real this time. He swears!

I mean, I'm sure President Obama swears at least sometimes, but I don't think he would if he knew he was on tape.

48. ElPinche

Not sure what the big deal is to the Obama-hating GOPers. They' ve been saying God Damn America for four years now.

49. DrunkIrishman

Didn't CarolAnne get sucked up into a television? I bet she was watching Sean Hannity when it happened. GO TO THE LIGHT, CAROLANNE!

50. Sassomatic

OT but earlier over dinner Mr. O'Matic mentioned someone having an election party. At that moment I realized that all this time I was failing to connect this three ring circus to an actual Presidential election.

51. Incitefully_Joe

Oh, so the main thing they seem to be harping on is that Obama code-switches, proving… what, exactly? That he's not clean and articulate after all? That he speaks in the negro dialect? What am I missing here? What is the "there" there?

Are white folks seriously so unfamiliar with code-switching that this is a SERIOUSLY BIG DEAL to some of them, or do they know full well what it is, and are trying to make extremely racist hay out of it anyway? I'm asking in all honesty here, because as an also multiracial guy who also moved around a lot when I was young, I'm completely mystified by the idea that anyone wouldn't know what code-switching is and why people do it.

1. BaldarTFlagass

I didn't realize there was a name for it, thanks! I've noticed this tendency a bit on the sports talk shows; it seems when the black studio commentators are discussing something and there is no white guy present there is a tendency for things to get a little bit more ebonic, even Tom Jackson. I was raised all over the place, and don't have an accent of my own, so I tend to fall into the local accent wherever I am. While I'm down here in Texas, I have a bit of a twang, but when I return here from a visit to the ancestral homeland up in Mass I'm pahking the cah all ovah Hahvahd Yahd. When I worked for a British lady back in the 90s, I had to tell her that I would be picking up her accent out of habit and that I wasn't mocking her.

2. Negropolis

Anyone remember when Tim Pawlenty – straight outta suburban Minnesota – was running for president and he slipped in and out of a bizarre Southern(ish) accent on the campaign trail on a number of occasions? Everyone code-switches. It can be uncomfortable, though, the speaker doesn't nail it because it doesn't come naturally. lol

Anyway, again, everyone does it. As a very general example, you don't answer the phone at work with the same voice as you answer your own personal phone.

1. Incitefully_Joe

And honestly there are times where we're conditioned expect a mild amount of code-switching and when we don't hear those cues, it's jarring. See Mitt "Cheesy grits y'all" Romney, for instance.

But, yeah, you're right, it is something everyone does to some degree or another. At the same time, the most discussed, and frankly most interesting examples typically come from people with mixed backgrounds or in mixed societies. Especially when we're talking about not just linguistic code-switching, but social and behavioral code-switching as well. I honestly think that the way we adapt to our social surroundings is generally really cool.

Even if it means that Drudge, Hannity and Carlson are apparently going to cast the president as some sort of Were-negro who starts acting "too black" under the light of a full moon.

1. Chet Kincaid_

Even the term "code-switching" is a signifier, because it's mostly used by people who went to Hysterically Black University or Atheist Liberal College and took classes in the Oppression Studies Department. I went to Mediocre State In The Cornfields, and learned all my Blackademics from Henry Louis Gates TV shows.

52. chascates

Axis Ann Coulter adds her view as well:
During our entire lifetime, the only effect of being black is that you get benefits. Doors open for you. You are more likely to get a position in Harvard Law School. Anyone who grew up watching ‘The Brady Bunch,’ this racism and discrimination — at least discrimination against black people, there’s some discrimination against white people — simply isn’t a part of our conceptual apparatus, which is why it’s so strange to have of all people this half-black man born in Hawaii in 1961 walking around like he’s Martin Luther King.”
http://dailycaller.com/2012/10/02/coulter-on-obam

1. ElPinche

Shorter Mann: Black, black , black , black , black, blackity black black black. What? You're a racist for calling me a race baiter!…. Black black black black ..

2. docterry6973

The only effect of being black is that you get benefits. The sickest part of this bigoted diatribe is that Coulter probably believes it. What a load of crap.

3. Negropolis

Ann, your president is black, he's going to be black on election day and during his upcoming inaugeration, and when he passes on and they carve his giant-ass ears and Chesire-cat-grinning visage onto Mount Rushmore, he's going to be black in perpetuity. You, however, will be forgotten, appropriately relegated to the trash can of history.

You can come around to this fact now, later, or never. Quite frankly, I don't give shit, but please, shoo fly.

4. shawnthesheep

Yes, because Coulter was born in 1961 and everyone knows that only whitez have suffered racial discrimination in Amerka since then. What were the 1963 March on Washington and the 1964 Civil Rights Act if not attacks on the white race?

53. BaldarTFlagass

I've used this Alien simile before, and I probably will again because it is so apt, but the Republicans are spazzing out like Science Officer Ash did when Yaphet Kotto knocked his block off with the fire extinguisher.

54. docterry6973

Daily Beast has a clip of Carlson on Hannity, saying that this story wasn't reported at the time, 'and i know because I reported on it.' I see Politico is describing it a dud, and even Allen West says that there is no there there. I do so love it when Drudge, Hannity, and Carlson fall flat.

55. Self-Uploader

What I'd like to see is a montage of various politicians of different ethnicities slipping into, or attempting to slip into "black" cadence. This would include Hilary Clinton goin' Southern at Coretta Scott King's funeral, Joe Biden's y'all, and a lot of churchy-Bill Clinton. I think Obama is better at it. Not about race, but based on his singing, he probably has a better ear.

1. Negropolis

I don't know; I think Bill Clinton is excellent at it.

BTW, another good (bad) one is Jennifer Granholm at the funeral of Rose Parks. Look it up. It's epic.

56. GregComlish

I don't know if America is ready for a black person talking to other black people about black issues in a black accent.

57. HouseOfTheBlueLights

Is the joke that it's just a grey box, or is there a universe in which there's an actual video?

58. ttommyunger

This is not nearly as pathetic as Drudge continuing to try to pass himself off as a Journalist.
