John Sununu Accuses CNN Of Pilfering Talking Points From the ‘Democratic Blog Boards’

So here’s what appears to be the Romney-Ryan camp’s plan for combatting accusations that Paul Ryan wants to gut Medicare through couponization and Mitt Romney endorsed that plan during the primaries: Saying that Mitt Romney has his own plan that has nothing to do with Paul Ryan, while claiming that it’s actually the Democrats who gutted Medicare by ending an estimated $700 billion in overpayments to Medicare Advantage providers. Shorter version: It is the Democrats who want to destroy Medicare, not the Republicans who have put Paul Ryan on their presidential ticket. Hmm, seems a bit thin; perhaps a bit more thought should have gone into this “let’s put Paul Ryan on our presidential ticket” thing. But if that messaging fails, Republicans do have a backup plan: Get dear old New Hamphire coot John Sununu to go on the teevee and holler at the host.

Last time we heard from John Sununu, he was playing Hitman and going on about President Obama smoking marijuana cigarettes in high school. He later apologized. Today, he went off on CNN’s Soledad O’Brien for hinting that his campaign’s Medicare messaging was full of crap. Leave Paul Ryan alone! He has nothing to do with this campaign; that is just something you read on the “Democratic blog boards.”

I can tell you what it says, yes,” said O’Brien. “It cuts a reduction in the expected rate of growth, which you know. Not cutting benefits to the elderly. Benefits will be improved. The focus is on hospitals. The focus is on health insurance.”

“He gutted the program by $711 million,” said Sununu of Obama. “And the fact is he reduces services to Medicare beneficiaries currently on the package. What the difference is, is that Romney says no impact to anybody 55 or over. It is clear in here that the reduction in services start on January 1, 2013 and Obama stole that money to put it into programs under Obamacare…”

“The hospitals agreed to that,” O’Brien countered. “The drug providers agreed to that because their theory is that what they’re going to be able to do is make up by the number of people who come into the system. It doesn’t reduce or cut the benefits. Right….”

“Soledad, stop this!” said Sununu. “All you’re doing is mimicking the stuff that comes out of the White House and gets repeated on the Democratic blog boards out there….”

“I’m telling you what FactCheck.com tells you,” she insisted. “I’m telling you what the CBO tells you. I’m telling you what CNN’s independent analysis does.”

“Put an Obama bumper sticker on your forehead when you do this,” Sununu shot back.

What other evil things is CNN picking up from the Democratic Blog Boards?

Steal it!

The FCC does not allow repetition of things from the Wonkette Blog boards, unless it's on subscription cable.

  2. IonaTrailer

The more explaining their positions the Repubtards have to do, the lamer they sound.
    Nice cat gif!

    1. bikerlaureate

If only for Soledad, then sure.

What if – just spitballing, here – what if other anchorpeople actually started to challenge blatant lies, too?

  3. SmutBoffin

If CNN was really stealing from the Internet IRC Blargs, then they would be reporting something about hookers in Seattle (and the Romney/Ryan tag-team murder thereof).

    1. Callyson

Sometimes, when people are constipated, a good yell moves things along: it's a good way to get shit out of your system.

  4. memzilla

So, Sununu does Tweety Bird: "Baaaaaad ol' puddy-facts."

And you said the Rethuglicans don't have a strategery.

  5. Dildeaux

CNN will feature an anti-Obama story just to even things out.

Soledad was asking questions. Simple questions. Sununununu is an ass.

  6. RRoccoco

Never let facts get in the way of a good lie, especially if you get to yell at a journalist while lying. And since when does Jabba the Hut wear glasses?

    1. ChessieNefercat

"And since when does Jabba the Hut wear glasses?"
Sarah Palin told him they would make him look smart.

Afro-Cuban Irish beauties are all the rage, now. In fact, Opening Ceremonies maestro Danny Boyle is banging Rosario Dawson. (So jealous.)

Karl Rove ran away with the title.

He's heading down I-94 with it now. Police are in pursuit.

“Put an Obama bumper sticker on your forehead when you do this,” Sununu shot back.

John Sununu looks like he put Truck Nutz on his chin.

    1. KeepFnThatChicken

You can't be too lily-white and have a surname like "Sununu", though.

      AND YES I RACIALLY PROFILED.

  8. FNMA

I get all of my talking points from Wonkette so as I was saying, something about Sununununu or whatever his name is and skullfucking.

  9. bumfug

I'd like it if Sununu put some sort of sticker over his face too – this fucker looks like a thumb with eyes.

  10. Wadisay

I predict that, in the next week, Romney will release his tax returns to distract from the Ryan grannie-eating fiasco.

    1. Monsieur_Grumpe

And to distract voters from the fact that Romney has paid $7.67 in taxes the last 10 years Ryan will then reveal that he has the corpse of Ayn Rand in his bedroom closet dressed up as Eleanor Roosevelt.

  11. La_Cieca

Good think Sununu wasn't using that tone at a public forum with Paul Ryan, or else that old coot would have been handcuffed and tasered before he could say "blog board."

  12. Mittens Howell, III

After viewing this, John Lennon's Estate just acknowledged he is no longer the walrus.

  13. edgydrifter

John Sununu is Henry Kissinger without the brains and the sinister charm.
    A belligerent toad, basically.

  14. Goonemeritus

DAMN LEFTWING MEDIA with their biased reliance on facts. Real Americans learn about government conspiracies by listening to a militia member broadcasting on shortwave radio like Jesus did.

    1. Jus_Wonderin

You mean Jesus is not the author of all those "Can you believe what Obama did….." emails?

  15. ChernobylSoup

One of my favorite 2012 election moments was last month when Sununu went on Fox News to complain about Obama's latest ad (the one with Romney singing). He said it proved Obama didn't know what he was doing because nobody ever runs political ads in July.

All the hosts laughed and agreed that Obama sure was dumb for running that ad.

  16. SayItWithWookies

Wait — cutting the highly-paid but unbeneficial middleman out of the system is destructive, but making old people live off coupons for healthcare that decrease in value as the recipient gets older is just cutting out inefficiency in the system? These people are still getting their "facts" from Judith Miller, aren't they?

  17. MissTaken

I'd say something about Sununu being an complete idiot, but the Democratic Blog Board Wonkette doesn't allow comments.

  18. James Michael Curley

The $700 billion that is claimed as being 'cut' from Medicare by Obama is a $700 billion dollar adjustment in the amount of money SSA will have to pay private insurance companies who provide Medicare Advantage coverage to the seniors who choose it. This boondoggle which was changed and created while Bush was pushing Medicare Part D through congress now provides premiums to insurance companies at the rate of $1.24 for every $1.00 of health care they provide.

THIS IS ALL THAT THE $700 BILLION FIGURE IS ABOUT.

In other words, if the republicans insist on blocking it (it was already passed under Obamacare) it will be continued corporate welfare for the insurance companies.

When one hears that Obama is cutting Medicare benefits the speaker is lying.

      1. James Michael Curley

Weasel words. Of course it cuts $700 billion ‘from the program’ but that is $700 billion of corporate welfare not $700 billion of senior medical care. Why, other than the classic Republican distortion of the term “Free Market” should the federal government guarantee a 24% return on investment to corporations who claimed, only 15 years ago that they could provide the same service the government provides but at a guaranteed 5% savings?

    1. fuflans

is MA going away completely? mr fuflans and i were trying to figure this out last week. (mr. fuflans thinks it is – and says exactly what you do about the program).

i ask because my former dayjob was run by an asshole republican (obv) sucking off the gov't MA teat, producing inferior product and plowing his proceeds into crappy modern art and very good claret.

would love to see him out of business.

      1. James Michael Curley

I don’t know any part of the PPACA (Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act – Obamacare) which will eliminate Medicare Advantage programs. There is a good Wikipedia article on it. But, of course, if Obamacare diminishes the trough Medicare Advantage companies are feeding from, the attractiveness for the insurance company diminishes. But the important thing, to some extent, was that Medicare Advantage was supposed to save money for the government and cut the cost of Medicare medical care, not provide $1.00 of medical care for a cost of $1.24.

  19. Troglodeity

Style tip for Sununu: wear an ascot with your unbuttoned shirt and blazer to achieve the full "privileged old asshat" effect.

  20. Tequila Mockingbird

I learned from the Democratic Blog Boards that there are no black people in New York!

No, wait. That's what I learned from watching Friends.

  21. IncenseDebate

They say Eskimos have a hundred words for snow. One of them is the snow that has been shit on by sled dogs – Sununu.

  22. Native_of_SL_UT

I know the state of our press today pretty much sucks, but that doesn't change the fact that anybody who trusts the shit coming out of a politicians pie-hole more than the press is a fucking idiot,

  23. bikerlaureate

I endured part of the video just to see if he did slip and say "711 million dollars."

He can't even get his lies straight.

  24. SorosBot

If O'Brien was taking things from "Democratic Blog Boards", then why didn't she ask Sununu why Romney hasn't denied that he is keeping his tax returns secret to hids his investments in child slavery rings?

  25. Callyson

Oh Christ–when Obama takes steps to reduce spending, he's throwing the oldz to the wolves, and when he doesn't, he's mortgaging our youngz' future…

    Getting sick of IOKIYAR…

    1. KeepFnThatChicken

I have wondered for some time how much of the expanding deficit Obama's dealt with, came from the continuing and expanding wars in Afghanistan, and the prevalence and proliferation of the drone program.

I mean, hasn't the Federal Gummint shed a shitload of jobs…?

  26. imissopus

For guys who always complain about the government's inefficient wasting of money, they sure don't like programs that stop the government's inefficient wasting of money.

  27. KeepFnThatChicken

It's great that CNN is reporting what FactCheck.com says. Many years ago, didn't they do their own investigations?

  28. PuckStopsHere

Put Sue New New on Faux and Friends, ask the same question and watch as Steve Doocey cums in his pants. Much better television.

  29. widestanceromance

Did they put him in front of a city block to visually diminish the size of his giant head?

Hmm, very effective. I hardly noticed.

  30. Beowoof

There is an old saying in law: when the facts are against you argue the law, when the law is against you argue the facts, when both are against you, yell like hell. I see Mr. Sunnunu is yelling like hell.

  31. Hammiepants

Hahaha, which people still care what this bloviating goatblowing assclown spews from his horrific cakehole? Only Teabilly fucksticks? Well, aren't they all over on Fox anyway? Oh CNN. Why waste everyone's time?

  32. MonkeyMotion

Romney campaign is firing on both cylinders:
Their old, fat, pasty-faced, white Sununu debating a smart (& foxy!) Soledad O'Brien.

They should demand an apology from CNN!

  33. Incitefully_Joe

Good news, Wonkers!! If Soledad O'Brien is getting her facts from Democratic Blog Boards, then maybe we can finally shed some daylight on the child sex ring that Romney hasn't denied yet!

  34. ElPinche

Looks like Sununu was pilfering bundt cakes and butter bisquits. Soledad should have responded with "Oh go break a hip you overbred neocon shit monster!".

  35. Come here a minute

Soledad O'Brien followed up with the penetrating question, "I CAN HAS CHEEZBURGER?"

  36. GeorgiaBurning

Hey, CNN auditor- check Sununu's expense report carefully. His belief in limited government is known to not include travel and entertainment expenses, as the belly would suggest.

  37. SolitaireRose

Is there a reason anyone listens to him? Didn't he get fired from the corrupt Bush administration for being so amazingly corrupt they couldn't forgive him like they did Ollie North? Couldn't Romney get someone more agreeable, like Carrottop, to shill for him?

  38. Weenus299

    Sunununu,
    doo-doo-doo-doo-doo.
    Sunununu,
    doo-doo-doo-doo.
    Sunununu,
    doo-doo-doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo,doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo- doo.

The party of old white entitled geezers sounds off on the secret weapon of the internet tubes but once more it sounds just like "get off of my lawn".

  41. Toomush_Infer

Hey, I don't want to sound oldist (I'm an oldz meself), but hasn't the bottom shelf shelf life expired on Sununu?….this studdery, drooling, ranty business is way past get off my lawn…

  42. Naked_Bunny

It's hard to take John Sununu seriously when he uses words like "Democratic" instead of "DemocRAT". How out of touch can a conservative be?

  43. docterry6973

Here is a quote on a blog board that CNN can use: John Sununu can kiss my fat ass, if he promises not to breath on it.

  44. Guppy

“Put an Obama bumper sticker on your forehead when you do this,” Sununu shot back.

It's 2012, and facts still have a liberal bias.
