NRO Hires Racisty Racist It Can Dig Up, For Racism

The CornerIt seems like just two months ago that the august and erudite National Review Online was having to face its terrible shame and can all its writers for being bald horrible racists. And yet their newest fellow likes to write things about how the Founding Fathers didn’t let black people vote for a reason. And also why we should declare all Muslims (ALL OF THEM) enemy combatants and get it over with. That second thing, the Muslimy one, that is just your typical Tuesday on the #WARBLOGS, so nobody will pay that one no nevermind. But that thing about black people, and why they (oh, and women, because someone has pecker issues) shouldn’t be allowed to vote? That does seem to be beyond the pale in the Civilized Right. (HAHA, yeah, no it isn’t, we totally lied.)

So here is David Yerushalmi in NRO’s The Corner, being all pompous and bloviatey, like so:

I am not in the habit of getting into a polemical tit-for-tat in public discourse. The reason is that I am not enamored of polemics. But, in the matter of American Laws for American Courts and Mr. Schmitz’s arguments on these pages against that model legislation, including his latest in the effort to demean this legislation and its supporters, a final word on the subject seems prudent.

Yeah, nobody is going to finish reading that, including us!

Instead, let us turn to this ThinkProgress report from 2010 on some of Herr Yerushalmi’s greatest hits. Are we ready? We are ready. Let us go.

Here’s a good one!

There is a reason the founding fathers did not give women or black slaves the right to vote. You might not agree or like the idea but this country’s founders, otherwise held in the highest esteem for their understanding of human nature and its affect on political society, certainly took it seriously. Why is that? Were they so flawed in their political reckonings that they manhandled the most important aspect of a free society – the vote? If the vote counts for so much in a free and liberal democracy as we ‘know’ it today, why did they limit the vote so dramatically.

Good racism, David Yerushalmi! But just for shits and giggles, what does SANE (suuuure), the group you are the head of, think we should do about Islam?

- It shall be a felony punishable by 20 years in prison to knowingly act in furtherance of, or to support the, adherence to Islam.

- The Congress of the United States of America shall declare the US at war with the Muslim Nation or Umma.

- The President of the United States of America shall immediately declare that all non-US citizen Muslims are Alien Enemies under Chapter 3 of Title 50 of the US Code and shall be subject to immediate deportation.

- No Muslim shall be granted an entry visa into the United States of America.

Now, we know Kathryn Jean Lopez, when she takes off her latex gimp mask that she always wears in her S&M sessions with The Lord (in the Proper Medieval Martyr Style that is really the only way to be a True Catholic), is supposed to be the “editor” of The Corner. And she doesn’t really have a lot of time to devote to that because James Spader in Secretary makes her sit at the table with her hands flat on it for like 25 hours at a time. But we thought (no we didn’t) that NRO was supposed to be home to the patrician conservatives, the ones whose only concern is negative-taxation for the Most Holy Job Creators, not the Pamela Gellar on Ambien batshit I SEE MUSLINS conservatives.

K-Lo, maybe next time you should try Googling these people, so you don’t have to immediately publicly fire them (again). Remember: William Buckley’s racism was an urbane racism, not to be confused with SaveWhitePeople.com.

Probably with all of the grace and dignity with which the President comports himself.

    1. BaldarTFlagass

No, I think he probably is a member of that other group of religious nuts that hangs out in the Middle East.

    2. Estproph

It's only racism when it's directed at white people (Jews being honorary white people and all)

    3. finallyhappy

not true-I had a number of relatives who were racist-Jews can be everything- racist, homophobic, anti-semitic

    1. Serolf_Divad

Also: were they so flawed in their political reckonings that they manhandled the question of just how many fifths of a person you are if you happen to be one of the accursed descendants of Shem?

      1. Truantly_Joe

Were they also so flawed in their political reckonings that they created, between an unresolved but lucrative human rights crisis, and lack of clarity on federalism, a ticking time bomb that would detonate into full-blown civil war within two generations?

    1. Zucchini

I have this mental image of him cheering on the Cossacks as they burnt his own village. "Long live the Czar! (Ouch!) Hurrah for absolute monarchy! (Ow! Ow!) Hurrah for the Russian Orthodox Church and may the unbelievers all (Arrrgh, gurgle, croak)."

  1. BaldarTFlagass

He's like George Lincoln Rockwell, except for hating other religions instead of other races!

  2. ChernobylSoup

    - The Congress of the United States of America shall declare the US at war with the Muslim Nation or Umma.

Umma not sure what that means.

    2. James Michael Curley

I saw Kill Bill I & II, ain't no wimpy NRO rag writer gonna to survive Uma.

  3. Maman

NRO can't be accused of racism against the muslins because they have another semite doing it. That makes it totally OK.

  4. BaldarTFlagass

"Muslims are Alien Enemies under Chapter 3 of Title 50 of the US Code and shall be subject to immediate deportation."

Wouldn't it be more economically sound to shoot them? Or put them in camps and work them to death?

  5. SayItWithWookies

Jews of the modern age are the most radical, aggressive and effective of the liberal Elite. Their goal is the goal of all “progressives:” a determined use of liberal principles to deconstruct the Western nation state in a “historical” march to the World State…

Wow, what a sweetie. I still don't think they're gonna let you into the country club, Mr. Yerushalmi.

    1. finallyhappy

I can't take credit for being the most radical, aggressive and effective of the liberal Elite but thanks for the compliment!

  6. SexySmurf

It shall be a felony punishable by 20 years in prison to knowingly act in furtherance of, or to support the, adherence to Islam.

Don't people in prison convert to Islam? So that means if you throw Muslims in jail they'll convert to Super Islam.

(Super Muslims are just like regular Muslims but they can shoot laser beams out of their eyes.)

    1. ChernobylSoup

So by your logic, the act of throwing someone in jail shall be a felony punishable by being thrown in jail.

  7. Antispandex

Well, HELL, this guy is starting to make sense…to his idiot cousin. Oh, and my in-laws…because they (unlike ME) have READ the constitution.

    Those damned Jews! Oh wait…

When it comes to Umma Thurman, I say make love, not war. But she would kick my ass before I even got close.

I hate it when I make a pass at a chick and she zaps me with the Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique.

Thinking about Ms. Thurman usually results in the Five Point Palm Exploding Swimsuit Area Technique.

Here's the beginning of our Summer of Hate Muslin pivot. Seems people like the wetbacks.

  11. SorosBot

"Were they so flawed in their political reckonings that they manhandled the most important aspect of a free society – the vote?"

Yes. And this is yet another reason why the worship of the founding fathers, and pretending that they did nothing wrong, is just plain stupid. They fucked up a lot.

    1. Chichikovovich

Yep. And it's also why treating the "Founding Fathers" as a monolith is stupid as well. It's not as if there weren't representatives to the constitutional congress that loathed slavery and made absolutely compelling arguments against it. (And against the despicable "3/5 compromise"). Take it away Gouverneur Morris [from Madison's notes on the debates:]

He [Gouverneur Morris] never would concur in upholding domestic slavery. It was a nefarious institution. It was the curse of heaven on the states where it prevailed. …with the misery and poverty which overspread the barren wastes of Virginia, Maryland, and the other states having slaves…. Proceed southwardly, and every step you take, through the great regions of slaves, presents a desert increasing with the increasing proportion of these wretched beings. Upon what principle is it that the slaves shall be computed in the representation? Are they men? Then make them citizens, and let them vote. Are they property? Why, then, is no other property included?

So, was Founding Father Gouverneur Morris right? [Hint: yes.] Or was it the slaveholding Founding Fathers, Blessed Be Their Names?

    2. valthemus

The founding fathers fought tirelessly against slavery, Michele Bachmann said so! Who am I supposed to believe: All those glorious patriots on the right doing their busy-bee best to whitewash history, or Commie pinko lefties like you? MY CHOICE IS CLEAR!

  12. Allmighty_Manos

3/5 of strict constructionists are that way b/c they still pine for the the 3/5 rule.

  13. Mojopo

Forgive me for asking. Is NRO affiliated with the people who leave Xerox copies about the "sharia + muslin = terrorsim" (sic) at laundromats? It's usually some guy with an armload of copies, dressed inappropriately for the weather (five sweaters, 3 pants and socks over the shoes in June).

    1. James Michael Curley

He's dressed like that because he then jumps into the bulk load washer and does all his laundry for the year.

  14. mavenmaven

    He's a friggin' lunatic:
"…Any world view, ideology, or -ism that promotes directly or indirectly the elimination of national existence and the establishment of a world state is our foe. So you can know at the start that liberalism (and this includes libertarianism) and Islam are in our sights."
No wonder Michele Bachmann supports him.

    1. sullivanst

And proof that Islam promotes the establishment of a single world state can be found by the unification of all Islamic-majority nations into one superstate… oh dear, he appears to be totally fucking wrong, doesn't he?

      1. anniegetyerfun

You'd think it might dawn on him that, while there are undoubtedly extremist Muslims who want to unite into a single world government ruled by Muslims, Muslims are, by and large, SUPER terrible at organizing into religious groups without slaughtering one another.

  15. James Michael Curley

Yerushalmi is what they call 'Hide the Sausage" in the Portland Police locker room.

  16. BaldarTFlagass

You know who else declared jihad on a group of adherents of an "other" religion in his country?

  17. Joshua Norton

There is a reason the founding fathers did not give women or black slaves the right to vote.

At least he's funny. He could probably open for the K-K-Komedy Tour.

  18. GeorgiaBurning

If you believe the only way to protect freedom is to lock it up, he's your guy.

  19. ElPinche

Yerushalmi sounds musliny with a side of jewey (he apparently hates both). What the salami is going on?

  20. ratcityrebel

Look, you can't expect NRO to comb through everything a columnist has written for evidence of racism or bigotry. I mean, that would pretty much disqualify everyone who has ever written for them.

  21. randcoolcatdaddy

Are we finished with the Two Minutes Hate yet? I need to get back to work on those pamphlets for the Anti-Sex League.

  22. TribecaMike

Just reprinting old National Review articles and replacing Blacks, Jews, and the Irish with Muslims is simply lazy.

Two hundred house points taken away from Slytherin.

  23. bonghitforjesus

Doesn't the world view of many on our home grown terrorists promote the establishment of a Christian world state? Can we declare them enemy combatants? Pretty please?

  24. owhatever

How about the asshole that lives in that silly McMansion next door to me? Can we get rid of him, too? I'll send a dollar to NRO if they can find away.

  25. Lionel[redacted]Esq

My understanding of Modern Conservatism's problem with Barack Obama is that he hate's American's in general, white people in particular. Which is why he wants to make us Sweden.

I'm pretty sure that is the latest argument.

  26. Guppy

There is a reason the founding fathers did not give women or black slaves the right to vote.

Because they considered enfranchisement a state matter, period.

I swear, one of the few times one of them could legitimately cry "states' rights"…

  27. barto

I would tend to stop listening to someone who can't distinguish between "affect" and "effect".

  28. 1stNewtontheMoon

NRO hired Gregg Easterbrook? Oh, a really racist racist? Not just a race-baiting pompous old fart/antisemite who hates jews almost as much as NFL players (when they're black, went to a public school, and/or make more than $1M/year of the NFL owners' hard earned money)?

    Viva Drew Magary. http://deadspin.com/5698560/gregg-easterbrook-is-

  29. rickmaci

These are the type of things that really dumb bat shit crazy racist conservatards imagine a smart bat shit crazy racist conservatard would be saying. In the end, "it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing."

  30. kingofmeh

here's one voice in colonial America on Muslims (aka Turkish folk): "Sixthly. It is the will and command of God that, since the coming of his Son the Lord Jesus, a permission of the most Paganish, Jewish, Turkish, or anti-christian consciences and worships be granted to all men in all nations and countries: and they are only to be fought against with that sword which is only, in soul matters, able to conquer: to wit, the sword of God's Spirit, the word of God." – Roger Williams, The Bloudy Tenent of Persecution (1644)

    1. Negropolis

Well, this obviously makes Roger Williams a Indo-Kenyan socialist commie, which is why he was kicked out of Massachusetts. Well, that, and he wouldn't bow to Red Sox fans.

  31. Ducksworthy

Really, the reason these twits don't want negros to vote is the same reason they don't women to vote: They fear that members of both groups will make fun of their tiny penis's (peni?).

  32. glamourdammerung

So NRO was really getting rid of their racists to clear out space for someone even more blatantly racist?

    Well played, Jonah Goldberg.

  33. Zucchini

Minor point but there certainly is a reason that the framers of the Constitution did not give the vote to women, free blacks or slaves. They believed only in extending the right to vote to property owning men. Non property owning white men couldn't vote either (Indians of course were right out.) Did this make them reactionary poopyheads? No, believing that all property owning heads of households should be able to vote was pretty progressive for Englishmen in the late 18th century. Compare this to the situation in England.
OK, the French revolution was a lot more revolutionary but it came out of another context.
I don't see how it is reasonable to criticize the Founding Fathers for not having the political philosophy that evolved out of their efforts over 200+ years. "The past is another country; they do things differently there." Also, Google "presentism."
This comment is not meant in any way to suggest Yerushalmi is anything other than a douchbag based on his other views. I'm only saying that there is a reasonable argument for this one statement; ThinkProgress doesn't inform me whether this was his argument or if it was something as vile as his other statements.

    1. Negropolis

They believed only in extending the right to vote to property owning men.

Which shut out everyone who couldn't legally own property. How convenient, right? It wasn't a bug, it was a feature. The franchise wasn't ridiculously narrow by happenstance.

  34. swordfis

David Yarushalmi's position is very consistent: the majority of Jews alive today are renegades because they refuse to join Mr. Yarushalmi in his obscure and illiterate shtetl in 17th-century Poland. Because of dybbuk inhabitation.

Therefore, by the powers invested in me as a liberal US Jew and by the Protocols of the Muslim/Hawaiian Confraternity, I hereby announce the "Tinfoil Yarmulka Award," to be given on an ad hoc basis to a Jew who produce the most creative paranoid, conspiratorial, racist or misogynistic alternate reality. Take a number, please.

  35. NYNYNYjr

Why did they not give slaves the right to vote? Amazing… I like experiencing these new ways of thinking. He's basically saying that the Founding Fathers, in their wisdom, Deist Allah bless them, had slaves and therefore so should we (whiteys). His statement leads right to that.

He skirts the issue that the Founders required you to own a certain amount of property to vote. He probably doesn't have enough property to qualify (in 1789 dollars).

Also of interest, the Founding Fathers actually did not give much of a shit- they left it up to States to decide. If above racist columnist is conflating "slaves" and "blacks" he should note 4 states originally allowed blacks to vote. Some allowed women to vote. The states were the ones that made up all the voting rules: No women, no Irish, only christians (no Jews, etc), only people who pay poll tax, no Chinese. These things were slowly explicitly made illegal by amendments and enforcement, but they were not written into the Constitution by the people we call "the Founding Fathers".
