Spineless Fox News Execs Actually Ashamed of Hilarious Propaganda Video

  today on the cable news

All the torture porn you can eatWhat the hell is wrong with Fox News execs? So the dimbulbs on illiterate dementia variety hour Fox & Friends broadcast a four-minute straight-up vicious propaganda campaign ad against Barack Obama yesterday. What’s the problem? This is just how the network rolls. But now we have senior Fox News execs saying they didn’t authorize it. This is no way to support Team Red, senior execs. As a blogger once said, NEVER APOLOGIZE, NEVER EXPLAIN.

Yeah, we know we’re doing exactly what Fox News hacks want by spreading this video after they’ve already deleted it, but who cares? It’s funny.

We like the carousel with the pig! What do you like? Oh. Well, Bill Shine simply did not care for any of it:

Bill Shine, the executive vice president for programming at Fox News, issued a statement about the video on Wednesday afternoon.

“The package that aired on ‘Fox & Friends’ was created by an associate producer and was not authorized at the senior executive level of the network,” Shine said. “This has been addressed with the show’s producers.”

Fox News later confirmed that the video had been removed from both its main website and the network’s aggregation site, foxnation.com.

And now it is an honorable network, forever.

HA HA HA HA HA. Oh Barb, you are so funny. HA HA HA HA. (thud … thud … laughing head and my ass off)

  1. noodlesalad

And clearly this rogue associate producer has never been tasked with creating propaganda packages for the network. S/he just makes them up when most other employees would be spamming comments on cnn.com or photoshopping themselves as the fourth Mrs. Gingrich.

  2. MrFizzy

Yes, I'm sure there are many things on national networks that are produced by associate editors and placed on the air without anyone else looking at them first. Utterly plausible, like for example Iraqi nukular weapons or incidental foot contact in a men's bathroom stall.

    1. Serolf_Divad

      Help Wanted:

Fox News is looking for an enterprising right-wing ideologue to create over-the-top, dishonest, anti-Obama propaganda video for national broadcast. This is a six-week contract, at the end of which your video will be aired and you will be promptly and summarily fired after top managment assures critics that your video was not "approved by top level managment." Good resume builder.

  3. MittsHairHelmet

It's always those damned associate producers giving Roger Ailes and Fox News a bad name.

    1. sewollef

Not sure a former political hack for the Reagan presidential campaign needs much help with the bad name thingie.

He's a shit example of a human being too.

  4. OkieDokieDog

I hope they all got a spanking. Wait, they'd probably like that. I hope they all had to wear Hitler mustaches all day. Wait, they'd probably like that too. Damn. They probably all got a raise. Yep, I bet it was that.

  5. actor212

Wow! James O'Keefe needs to investigate how easy it is to get a video on FOX! It's like they're practically begging any crackpot with a camcorder

  6. Hera Sent Me

Isn't it News Corporation's standard operating procedure to break any law and flout any pretense of adhering to responsible journalistic standards, and if caught or criticized, to blame it on the "unauthorized" actions of disposable minions?

    1. Pithaughn

Well, that is standard for most major multi nationals so no surprise really. For example see "The smartest guys in the room".

    2. Naked_Bunny

I think they prefer to blame anonymous, fictional minions. Less paperwork that way.

  7. Chichikovovich

It is rather shocking that a 24 hour anti-Obama propaganda channel would have aired a 4 minute anti-Obama propaganda video.

    1. Serolf_Divad

Probably had 4 minutes of dead air to fill between Barack Obama: Promises Made, Promises Broken and Constitutional Crisis: The Obama Administration's War Against The Founding Fathers.

    2. Wile E. Quixote

Well, I, uh, don't think it's quite fair to condemn a whole network because of a single slip-up, sir.

  8. EatsBabyDingos

It was the boys from Manassas and Dumfries that did it. Then they merged their towns, and called it "Dumassas."

  9. Callyson

And this differs from usual FOX programming how? It's too polite perhaps? Needs moar O'Really screaming and interrupting the token liberals who are foolish enough to go on his show?

      1. Limeylizzie

I am fine, just can't deal with the Goat Legs and Pig Snouts , am in Los Angeles sitting on the deck looking out at a sea of boringness.

          1. Limeylizzie

Not actual sea, I am in Franklin Hills between Silverlake and Los Feliz, very pretty, very boring.

          2. sewollef

Los Feliz was a nice neighbourhood last time I was there. What've you done to it?

  10. Chick-Fil-Atheist™

Fox News is off my radar now. When discussing things with those who watch it, if they admit it, I stop talking to them without explanation. My time is too precious.

  11. Manhattan123

Now when are they going to apologize for the other 23 hours and 56 minutes of programming?

    1. MaxUdargo

Why can't we just say, "Look, it's a tabloid. It's the National Enquirer of television news shows," and be done with it?. Why do we keep pointing out their lack of journalistic objectivity as if we expect a cheesy tabloid TV show to display journalistic objectivity?

  12. Baconzgood

“The package that aired on ‘Fox & Friends’ was created by an associate producer and was not authorized at the senior executive level of the network…“This has been addressed with the show’s producers.”

Hmmm. Let Baconz put this through Google translate. Let's see PR Speak to English. *mouse clicky noise*

"Yeah we didn't know specifically about it but if we did see it before it aired we would have, in keeping with our network culture, authorized it. We are so delusional about our hate for a black POTUS that we forget we try to present ourselves as 'news', and not the joke that reputable news organizations think we are. The only reason we're putting this press release out shifting the blame is because people outside our echo chamber got their panties in a bunch."

    1. Oblios_Cap

Throwing a small fry under the bus.

Works well in all corporations, including the military.

  13. SorosBot

If Fox is apologizing for showing stupid unfunny shit, will they now finally apologize for The Family Guy?

    1. Baconzgood

I'm still expecting some flowers or a gift card from them for Married with Children.

      1. SorosBot

And that one is even worse in impact, now that there, what, two dozen other identical karaoke contest shows cluttering our airwaves.

    2. Jadetiger79

My God I hate that show. It bothers me that people I respect find it even remotely funny.

  14. MissTaken

“The package that aired on ‘Fox & Friends’ was created by an associate producer and was not authorized at the senior executive level of the network,” Shine said. “This has been addressed with the show’s producers."

So Fox News is a poorly run business with senior management having no control over its product? Yeah, that sounds much better than just admitting they are completely unfair and unbalanced.

    1. SorosBot

I'm sure this was totally unauthorized, just like the phone hacking was done by a few hundred loose cannons.

    2. JustPixelz

Yeah, but if Romney ran Fox it never would have happened. Because Fox would have been closed down long ago. Hey … that gives me an idea: Romney For POFN/2012.

    3. Guppy

"We're in that magical realm between 'complicit' and 'criminally negligent'" is the story they've been telling prosecutors around the world for at least a year now.

    4. Pseudonymously_Joe

It is, of course, obviously so much bullshit. Not only because they used that exact same excuse over the phone hacking scandal, but also because, remember how Gawker had a "Fox News Mole", for all of one day? And, remember how they managed to track the guy down in a matter of hours, based on the video clips he had accessed to give to Gawker?

Something tells me that if this "associate producer" actually had been spending "weeks" picking out those news reels and stock footage without authorization, someone somewhere would have noticed right quick. Particularly since that means he would have been doing said unauthorized lookups at exactly the same time as the "Fox News Mole" kerflufle.

  15. Callyson

Conservative commentators also expressed discomfort with the video. Hot Air's Ed Morrisey said that it didn't seem like something a news organization should be producing:
"I know the initial response will be that other news organizations offer biased perspectives and hagiographies of Obama that go well beyond a single video … and that response is entirely valid. However, we usually criticize that kind of behavior with other news organizations, too. If anyone wanted to look for evidence that the overall Fox News organization intends to campaign against Obama rather than cover the campaign, this video would be difficult to refute as evidence for that claim."

Translation: oh shit, this is too obvious…

    1. Serolf_Divad

More like: the price of commodities has risen between the trough of our worst recession in 50 years and now! OMFG, STOP THE PRESSES!

  16. chascates

I thought Roger Ailes said Hannity was the only conservative he employed. Must have been an intern.

  17. subsum

We're Fox News: we may be a bunch of dimwits but our female anchors are good lookin' bitches (or so we're told).

  18. OneYieldRegular

This is certainly an improvement. I mean, so far as I know at this point, they didn't hack into a dead child's cell phone to produce this video.

  19. Goonemeritus

So Fox is admitting to central control of their News staff. Editorial freedom is a corner stone of journalism. What’s worse an unprofessional presenter (in Fox’s case that’s almost all of them) or coordinated propaganda. They need to change their motto to we misinform you decide.

    1. Guppy

Remember: Fox News broadcasts both "news" and "entertainment," and we're all supposedly able to divine the difference.

  20. Oblios_Cap

So the dimbulbs on illiterate dementia variety hour Fox & Friends broadcast a four-minute straight-up vicious propaganda campaign ad against Barack Obama yesterday.

They must have gotten a call from the Election Commission about running a campaign ad for Rmoney.

  21. Jeri 2.0

Ahhhh, so this is the strategy. It's like in 3rd grade when some passive/aggressive fuckwit would insult the hell out of someone, and then when the shit hit the fan they'd act surprised that anyone took offense and say they were only joking. We'll be seeing a whole boatload of Etch-A-Sketch shaking going on not only from Captain Amercia but FOX-Pretending-to-be-News and every other rightwing mouthpiece between now and November. I'll make a map of surveyor's marks to keep track.

  22. PuckStopsHere

Actually, I give them lot of credit. They made it through an entire four minutes without mention Jimmy Carter once.

    1. glamourdammerung

President Carter was about to have the IRS look into the Mormon's tax exemption due to their…interesting views on race. Luckily, they conveniently had a "revelation" that blacks were people too. Apparently, Bishop Romney and friends are still upset about that.

  23. Limeylizzie

I love the eagle with his head cocked as if to say 'I'm an American and there's a Nigger in the White House-for shame?"

  24. MissTaken

I'm starting to turn an interesting shade of blue while I hold my breath waiting for the Fox News 4 minute anti-Romney video. Someone should maybe call me an ambulance.

  25. Not_So_Much

Yes, always burn an underling. It's the honorable thing to do.

Every time I see a picture of Ailes I assume he's about to pop. What's taking so long?!1!!

    1. MissTaken

It's the time-honored tradition of "the buck stops way the hell below me, now suck my dick" that permeates the American corporate world.

    2. Ruhe

He's wrapped in a finely woven kevlar undergarment that protects him from bursting. And there's a discretely positioned pressure-release valve. I'm pretty sure that Medicare covered the whole thing.

  26. SayItWithWookies

I can see the decision-making process at Fox Criminal Enterprises now: some executive saw this stupid ad and said, "We better take this off our website or we could get in serious trouble with the FEC." Then, after the fits of laughter subsided, he was like, "No, really — it could threaten our credibility."

Okay — I have no idea why the took this down.

  27. Terry

“The package that aired on ‘Fox & Friends’ was created by an associate producer and was not authorized at the senior executive level of the network,” Shine said. “This has been addressed with the show’s producers.”

Did you give them big fat bonuses, perhaps?

  28. prommie

This is not my beautiful house. This is not my Wonkette. This is not my large automobile. My God, what have I done?

  29. Guppy

Bill Clinton promised me broadcast porn in exchange for his V-chip! Where's my broadcast porn!?

  30. StealthMuslin

That took a "couple of weeks in a small editing room?"
How much hate-fapping can one man do?

  31. TootsStansbury

It wouldn't surprise me to find out fox engages in the old subliminal message brainwashing technique.

  32. Come here a minute

Thank God they deleted that video off the Internet — somebody might have gotten the wrong impression about Fox.

  33. elburritodeluxe

"Has we authorized such a video we would have insisted that it include the fact that he is not an American citizen and that Bill Ayers writes all his books."

  34. AlaskaGrrl

"An associate producer shot your dog. This shooting of this dog on ‘Fox & Friends’ was created by an associate producer and was not authorized at the senior executive level of the network,” Shine said. “This has been addressed with the show’s producers.”

But the dog is still dead.

  35. poorgradstudent

Poor FOX News. First you've got Shep Smith showing signs of independent thought and self-awareness. Then you've got "FOX And Friends" reaching such levels of right-wing depravity even the network that tries to present Michelle Malkin as a sane person has to desperately try to cut the mic.

  36. Wile E. Quixote

Oh, a rogue associate producer, this sort of thing has happened before, in fact it was a rogue associate producer who got Leni Riefenstahl in all that trouble. Triumph of the Will was originally filmed as a bromantic comedy called Bube, wo ist mein Panzer? about a couple of happy go lucky members of the SS who misplace their armored vehicle after going to Oktoberfest in Munich, but then some bastard of a rogue associate producer spliced in a bunch of stock footage of Nazis, changed the title and sent it off to the distributors without the approval of Riefenstahl or Josef Goebbels.

  37. fitley

Everybody seems to be overlooking the high production values of this epic. The piggy bank tumbling down the stairs, that was an homage to one of history's great films "Birth of a Nation".

    1. GlowneyHouse

I'm thinking the Odessa stairs of "Battleship Potemkin," but given a choice they would probably choose brave white 'merakin patriots over godless commies.

  38. Lionel[redacted]Esq

I think that the great thing anyone can take from this is that even the higher ups at FOX News don't have the time to pay attention to Fox N' Friends.

  39. glamourdammerung

So the Bishop Romney campaign theme of the next couple of days is "are you better off now than four years ago"? Yeah, uhm, stick with that one, Willard.

  40. Negropolis

“The package that aired on ‘Fox & Friends’ was created by an associate producer…

Wow. When I saw this story in passing, I thought they'd simply aired a video by some third party group, but this was actually by a Fox employee. Fuck, man.

  41. Beanball

Everybody here is probably too drunk to remember it, but CBS News once ran a video mashup of LBJ speeches, lip-syncing to Tony Bennett's "If I Ruled the World."

It was funny as hell, and not a damn was given.

  42. PrincessLou

“The package that aired on ‘Fox & Friends’ was created by an associate producer and was not authorized at the senior executive level of the network,”

This, of course, was resolved by promoting the associate producer to the senior executive level.
