Biggest loser Mitt Romney employs some real lumps, as evidenced by a spokesperson’s comment Wednesday regarding the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act, which, in the words of its namesake, and YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS, but, heh, Mr. Romney doesn’t, “ensures women have the tools to get equal pay for equal work.” When Huffington Post reporter Sam Stein asked during a Romney conference call whether Romney supported the act, there was a long pause, and then a gentleman responded, “We’ll have to get back to you on that.” A million political years later, another spokesperson, who may or may not have a Twitter Problem, finally coughed up a response — on Twitter, because that is where she feels most comfortable. It went something like: (flirtatious eye roll, dismissive hand gesture): “You sillies.” Away from the prying eyes of Twitter, a vase of flowers was thrown across a room.
There is some backstory here, namely that the Romney camp has been saying things all week about how the “war on women” was really started by General Barack Obama, and that “92 percent” of jobs lost under the Obama Administration have belonged to women. QUE? So! Among other things the conference call was, not that the Romney camp even knew this, intended to delve deeper into those remarks.

When Dubya was hemorrhaging 800,000 jawbs a month, most of those jawbs were man-jawbs. Now that all the mens were laid off, the womens are just catching up, thus, this absurd talking point.
Not only that, but coming up with that particular figure requries counting the entire month of January 2008, which is pretty funny, since Obama was only president for 10 days of that month.
Also too, ignoring the fact that the biggest source of predominantly-woman teacher-and-healthcare layoffs comes in the form of the wingnut-endorsed austerity measures, but that's actually fine, because Republicans like blaming Obama for the consequences of policies that they agitate for, by saying "weak leadership" over and over again.
That would be "teacher" layoffs, there were at no time mass healthcare layoffs. In fact healthcare employment increased throughout the recession (unfortunately the BLS's graphs are not directly linkable, but if you go here and click the dinosaur on the line form "Employment, All Employees" you see the lack of a dip).
Teacher layoffs were caused by wingnut-enacted austerity measures – that President Obama sought directly to prevent or limit with the transfers to states in ARRA.
Of course Mitt supports equal pay for women; he just thinks that women who do face pay discrimination shouldn't have adequate legal resources to get recompensed for that discrimination. No biggie!
