Tucker Carlson’s Daily Caller Begins To Stuff Its Trayvon Coverage Into The Memory Hole

Double plus ungoodThere’s no way of knowing whether it was Joe Scarborough’s public shaming of them (it was Joe Scarborough’s public shaming of them) but Tucker Carlson’s Daily Caller has not only gone almost a whole day without smearing Trayvon Martin’s character or calling just about all black people “professional race baiters,” it’s also begun the painful and arduous task of walking back its horrifying coverage. Their latest story bears what must have been a galling headline to write: New Details Darken Outlook for Zimmerman’s Claim of Self-Defense. It is underneath a gigantic piece alleging some sort of ill-defined venality by Sen. Carl Levin for wanting to install electric car chargers at the Capitol. Obviously, you wouldn’t want a proper walk-back above the fold.

The very straight article, which obviously wasn’t written by star race-baiter Matthew Boyle as there’s no way he would have been able to keep the bile from pouring through his fat, sweaty fingers onto your screen, plods along, detailing “new information” and acting as though it were some other outlet that was doing “character vetting” on the 17-year-old Trayvon. Nowhere does it mention the hard-on the site has shown over the past weeks as it smeared a young dead boy with unabashed glee.

Both Martin and Zimmerman have faced a thorough character-vetting process as prominent activists and politicians ensure a continued national focus on the tragedy. Both men share rocky backgrounds, with Martin having been suspended from school on multiple occasions for various reasons and Zimmerman having previous run-ins with the law.

Martin’s disciplinary history showed no sign of physical aggression, though; a fact that offers Zimmerman’s claims of self-defense little support in the court of public opinion.

What little support Zimmerman has found publicly comes from a handful of close friends and family. Of those who aren’t strictly calling for his arrest and prosecution, many are urging a thorough investigation to assess whether Zimmerman rightly defended himself using Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law — or moved to shoot and kill Martin without a justifiable fear that his own life was in danger.

The Daily Caller has yet to note that Travyon Martin’s “rocky background” included fishing with his dad and preparing to take the SATs.

Hola wonkerados.

To improve site performance, we did a thing. It could be up to three minutes before your comment appears. DON'T KEEP RETRYING, OKAY?

Also, if you are a new commenter, your comment may never appear. This is probably because we hate you.

The Deluxe 14-Inch Cliterator™ would like to have a word with you. It hates bow ties as well.

    1. JohnnyQuick

"The bright white light of justice will partially exonerate this slightly dusky neighborhoodwatchman, no doubt. It's always darkest before the dawn!"

    2. Chet Kincaid

Give it another few days of peer-group pressure from "Morning Blowhard", and the "Gentleman Caller" headline will be Beaner Shot 'Cosby Kid' in the Back.

    3. Boojum

The primary "new detail" was the realization that, if Zimmerman couldn't be racist because his Mom was Hispanic, this also meant that Zimmerman was HALF-MESSICAN11!!!!1!1!!1!!

        1. Dudleydidwrong

No. Deport half of him. Leave the other half here for a trial. Maybe Clarence "Clown" Thomas will preside.

  1. AlterNewt

Oh, but there's so much more to say. I can't think of anything because it's just so horrendous, but you go ahead, Tucker.

    1. Boojum

He has a white one in his closet. Or, at least, that is rumored to be true, on the Internet.

  2. spends2much

The thing is, if there was any way they could keep on smearing, they would. It's only the mounting evidence, NOT anything like a conscience developing at that shithole site for bowtie wearing losers!

        1. Loaded_Pants

Armstrong Williams? Well, there's three…so that's probably half the people who visit the site.

          1. C_R_Eature

Yeah, that's probably it. Michael Steele is way too literate for the Daily Caller and Clarence Thomas only reads Porn.

          2. rickmaci

Except for Herman Caine and Condi Rich, that pretty much runs the table on black members of the Republican Party.

          3. C_R_Eature

Good Catches! How did I forget those two?

Oh, I know: Condi Rice has gone peacefully over the event Horizon into Academia and I'm trying really hard to forget Cain.

  3. DrunkIrishman

Tucker Carlson needs to shove that fucking bow tie up his white, conservative ass. Jon Stewart was absolutely right – what adult, in their right mind, would wear a fucking bow tie? Are you a clown? Do you go to children's parties and fondle little girls you sick, smelly piece of dog shit?

You're not fucking Winston Churchill, so stop acting like it you dweeb.

    1. sewollef

      Are you drunk?

Winston Churchill was a class warrior and asshole that promulgated war and attempted to rally Brits fighting on the beaches, while he was busy diddling the air stewardess on his way to exile in Canada.

    2. Judith_Priest

Isn't he married to that evil lying cunt Gretchen Carlson? The first Rhodes Scholar in history who had never heard the word "tsar" until Commiebama appointed a few??

      Such liars.

    1. C_R_Eature

OH, he's well on his way to a slot next to a Miscellaneous Blonde Bimbilena on FOX.

      You'll see him again.

    2. CivilMcMannerly

"I, Matt Boyle, am here to assure you that The State of The Negro is good and strong. No, I'm sorry… Hood and bong, that's what I meant to say. I repeat, hood and bong. "

  4. CivilMcMannerly

"What little support Zimmerman has found publicly comes from a handful of close friends and family"

And the entire right wing of the internet… But, you know… Close enough to pass for journalism at Tucker's House of Rayjism.

  5. Lucidamente1

Both Martin and Zimmerman have faced a thorough character-vetting process as prominent activists and politicians ensure a continued national focus on the tragedy.

    Mommy, mommy, what's false equivalence?

      1. Generation[redacted]

When Trayvon was first described as "a drug using juvenile delinquent" I thought, woah, that could have been me.

  6. YouBetcha

Santorum weighs in: "This is why you have to watch yourself around bl — blah people. Also, it's clear that Trayvon was a cowardly nig — negotiator."

  7. Sue4466

Love the false equivalency dance wherein Martin being suspended from school equals Zimmerman's "run ins with the law." Yes, getting suspended is exactly the same as getting arrested.

    1. Doktor StrangeZoom

If we could just have school suspensions with the possibility of execution, none of this would have happened.

      1. Sue4466

Sure would streamline the process. Hippie libruls with their "but they jus kids" socialist bull crap.

    2. Gainsbourg69

Cons were so hoping to reveal young Trayvon as a thug that they demanded that they stop showing his baby pictures and start showing pictures of him wearing gold teeth. Unfortunately for them, Treyvon was a clean cut kid who was a wanabe bad boy.

      1. Sue4466

So bad they had to post a fake picture from Stormfront and the worst they could come up with was him supposedly flipping the bird to a webcam. Like who hasn't done that? And like that would making shooting him down okie dokie.

I get angry any time I think about what happened to that kid. And angrier when I hear dumbasses making it out like it wasn't that bad. He's dead. It doesn't get more bad than that. Poor child. And poor child's family.

        1. Gainsbourg69

Trayvon went to a high school not five minutes away from where I live. If they'd payed as much attention to him as they did to that Elizabeth Smart girl they'd know that he attended a school in a middle class neighborhood. There's just no way you can demonize this boy. He probably got better grades than that dumb fuck Cralson himself.

      2. Negropolis

Treyvon was a clean cut kid who was a wanabe bad boy.

I wish this was made more a point of when people try to label him a "thug", which itself is a codeword. Trayvon is like half the kids I grew up with, white, black and otherwise. I had white classmates who used to brag up and down about selling weed, disrespect their parents and other adults to their faces, etc…but if a black classmate was in any kind of trouble, it was blown up. That's one of the things people need to know about modern racism. Modern racism is not empathizing with others who you don't feel a cultural connection too because of their race/color/etc…

        1. Boojum

In 2005, Zimmerman was arrested and charged with "resisting officer with violence" and "battery of law enforcement officer". The charges were reduced to "resisting officer without violence" In the same year (2005), Zimmerman's ex-fiance, Veronica Zuazo, filed a motion for a restraining order, alleging domestic violence.

        2. Gainsbourg69

According to a poll I read recently, seventy three percent of Americans think Zimmerman should be arrested. The thugging of Treyvon Martin is not working as well as these fuckers were hoping it would.

    3. gurukalehuru

Actually, getting suspended is somewhat analogous to getting arrested.
Both happen frequently to violent, socially maladjusted people.
Both happen occasionally to good, even righteous people.

Zimmerman's arrests were for fighting with the cops and beating his woman. I don't think he falls into the righteous category.

  8. mavenmaven

The comments on that article are pretty sickening. I read, like, the first five and I feel like I need to scrub off the outer layer of my skin. The best one is the one suggesting the funeral home examine the can of ice tea which must have been the attack weapon against poor Mr. Zimmerman, new hero of the Right. Haven't seen the word "libtard" there yet, but someone keeps writing "democrap".

  9. widestanceromance

Speaking of memory holes, my weekend is about to begin. Enjoy the weekend, everyone.

  10. Preferred Customer

"Both Martin and Zimmerman have faced a thorough character-vetting process as prominent activists and politicians ensure a continued national focus on the tragedy. Both men share rocky backgrounds, with Martin having been suspended from school on multiple occasions for various reasons and Zimmerman having previous run-ins with the law."

Yes, these two men are precisely equivalent in every way. Their backgrounds are almost identical. What possible scale can we use to divine a moral difference between them?

    Well, let's see.

One was carrying a gun. The other was carrying candy.

One was driving around looking for trouble. The other was walking home.

One is walking around free. The other is dead.

Yeah, they're just the fucking same, aren't they, Tucker?

  11. Doktor StrangeZoom

Crommunist has a nice discussion of the way Trayvon Martin has been constructed as a "perfect victim," and why this characterization (by the non-douchebag media, at least) is still problematic:

Trayvon Martin was 17, a good student, and not associated with any kind of criminal past. Therefore he didn’t deserve to get shot. Can you imagine the reaction if he had gone to the store for a beer or a pack of smokes instead? Or if he had been in that neighbourhood because he was in foster care? Or if he had been a C student instead of a B student? All it takes in cases like this is the presence of a single imperfection for the victim blaming and ignoring to begin. Trayvon Martin is far from the first black teenager to be killed despite being innocent of any crime. The reason this story has legs is because we can’t find something with which to drag him through the mud as we exonerate his killer.

(The blogger is Canadian, so he gets to say "neighbourhood")

    1. C_R_Eature

But does he say that Trayvon Martin should never have gone oot of the Hoose in that neighbourhood?

    2. iburl

Thanks for posting that. I do not give a shit if Treyvon was on a bagful of Rush Limbaugh's hillbilly heroin that night. That fucking racist scumbag kook Zimmerman is not goddamn Judge Dredd.

    3. bagofmice

You have to understand, he has PTSD. Post Trayvon Skittles Defense. When a rainbow like that is coming out, there's no telling what a man will do.

    4. Negropolis

That is part of the reason, and particularly the reason why the story keeps going. But I'd say that this story has any legs, whatsoever, because Zimmerman has not been arrested. If Zimmerman would have been arrested, that night, this would still be a horrible story, but it'd have been a week-long story, TOPS.

I've said all along that Trayvon could have actually been acting suspicious and looking in windows and doing all kinds of shit and it still wouldn't have justified the shooting. The only really important part of this story that anyone needs to know is that Zimmerman got out of his car after following someone. This is the very definition of a vigilante. He was not in his house or on his lawn protecting his property of any such thing. This man was out looking for trouble, practically hunting, and he found trouble.

  12. C_R_Eature

    Shorter Daily Caller:
    Here's our correction article.
We're going to knock it off, now. We've been getting calls.

  13. C_R_Eature

Please don't make us look at that picture all weekend, Rebecca.

How about a nice Turd photo?

    Thanks, CRE

    1. redarmyzombie

How about that one with the Eagle and the severed rodent's head in its mouth? I'd much prefer that one too.

  14. SayItWithWookies

Both men share rocky backgrounds, with Martin having been suspended from school on multiple occasions for various reasons and Zimmerman having previous run-ins with the law.

Oh, right — so let's see here — the teenager got suspended for having a baggie with pot residue in it, and the adult got fired for being dangerously violent while acting as a security guard, his girfriend put out a restraining order against him, and he was also arrested for somethingorother. So the DC is saying these are somehow equivalent, and that either one of them could have been the violent aggressor? Yeah, that's a solid implication.

  15. Jukesgrrl

I'm sure Tucker would be happier if no young African-American men were taking the SATs, so that's a check in his "bad" column. Fishing is OK as long as it's not being done near any of the Carlson family's homes.

  16. LesBontemps

    Both men share rocky backgrounds

Trayvon Martin wasn't a man, he was a boy — a skinny 17-year-old high school kid. And rocky background? Please, the boy skipped class, was among some kids who wrote "WTF" on a locker, and may have had some "marijuana residue" (but no actual weed) in a baggie in his book bag. His "rocky background" makes my high school years look like a Bonnie & Clyde crime spree.

  17. Chichikovovich

Well, I hope you all are happy. We could have spent the weekend staring at the merely moderately revolting Texas gay-caning lady's face, but you had to complain. Now look what we've got.

      1. Mumbletypeg

I have to admit.. few things get to me like one (or any) of the priceless expressions captured in the Bachmann photos seen here on wonkette.
She1z takes the cake but Marcus too. Earlier today, someone whose username was unfamiliar to me commented using an avatar that was Marcus's face with Shel1ey's eyes superimposed, subtly 'shopped, I wish I'd replied w/ a compliment now b/c I've looked backthread and can't locate him/her.

  18. The_Lucky_Wife

Tucker is such an asshole. He smeared Trayvon Martin in an effort to "defend" Zimmerman, now that the latest details call into question Zimmerman's self-defense claim, Tucker still smears Trayvon by mentioning his suspension and equating that with Zimmerman's trouble with the law.

  19. __kth__

I'm not understanding the second thoughts at the Daily Tucker. Do they actually think that normal people read their site?

  20. fartknocker

If the Florida AG had any ass in her skirt, she would initiate a much more robust investigation. However, she's too busy trying to make Judge Thomas sexy happy with some oral arguments in the Affordable Care Act lawsuit.

Completely OT but it appears another TeaTard Governor is about to be indicited on tax fraud charges. Wait, it gets better: she was on Hair Helmet's possible list for VP. Yee fucking haw GOP, keep telling me about fiscal responsibility and family values.

    1. SayItWithWookies

I wonder who the first conservative will be to say "I knew we shouldn't've trusted a foreigner?"

      1. C_R_Eature

No, at first it's going to be " Obama's Eric Holder directed Justice Department Investigation really a politicized hit job of upstanding Tea Party Governor"

That will hold up until the really egregious violations come out, Hayley gets cut loose and an even more radical Tea Party politco steps in to the Governorship.

    2. tessiee

"If the Florida AG had any ass in her skirt"

I usually say, "had any ovaries", but this is awesome.

  21. elviouslyqueer

The Daily Caller has yet to note that Travyon Martin’s “rocky background” included fishing with his dad and preparing to take the SATs.

But Skittles! And motherfucking Iced Tea! So, still hoodlum-ish.

  22. Fluffy_Kitties

Silly hoodies, everyone knows Stand Your Ground is redneck code for License to Kill.

  23. vodkamuppet

When was Martinez' background ever vetted? Where? Find one site and I can find 100 that contradicts this asshole. It's the weekend so I'm gonna get shit blasted and be guilty of pure debauchery but I'll still come up with a more convincing story than this dumb dickhole on Monday. Not that I'm going to do something gross! (i'm gonna do something fucked up).

  24. Swampgas_Man

Being a professional masochist, I actually looked at the comments on that article. Hey geniuses, the reason this is a "Trial by Public Opinion" is that there's been no sign of a REAL trial ever taking place. I'd be perfectly happy w/ this guy facing a jury, but that's not happening any time soon, is it?

  25. Chet Kincaid

The 17 year old kid is one of two "men" now? Right wing fucks only want to call black men "men" when they need justification for putting a minor under the jail, in the Chair, or inside a crime scene tape-outline.

    1. Gainsbourg69

White boys get to be little kids way past their thirties but black boys are men as soon as they get a little peach fuzz on their chins. Look at James O'keefe. He pulls some funny shit on a government official and he walks. If a black boy does the same thing he's part of the New Black Panther party and sent directly to the hole for three years.

  26. Callyson

Does anyone know who advertises on the Daily Caller? I want to make sure I don't support them accidentally, and I don't have the strength to go to Fucker Snarlson' website to find out…

      1. Limeylizzie

Well, there are 3 actors unions, Actors Equity- represents you when doing theatre-Screen Actors Guild-Mainly Film and some TV ,and AFTRA which represents Soap Operas, some TV and radio, Most people are in all three ,if are working professionally , but AFTRA was an open-door union so people get into AFTRA and then get into what are seen as better unions in a backdoor way, sort of. Anyway in 2008 AFTRA made agreements before SAG did so they undercut some contracts and more TV shows started using an AFTRA contract which meant that SAG actors were making less money for their Health and Pension if they were already vested. It's complicated but we have long wanted there to be only 2 unions, I would prefer all three merge, so that we have better bargaining options and now the membership of both unions, there is a lot of overlap most people are already members of both unions paying two sets of dues, has voted to merge the two unions into one bigger, stronger union.

        1. C_R_Eature

That is good news! Consolidated bargaining power and a dues savings to boot.
Thank you for taking the time to explain the workings behind the things we all see everyday.

  27. valthemus

It's a good thing to see Tucker the Dancing Wonder Schmuck come to his senses and realize they had taken an untenable position on the matter. And it was good to see them taking a more measured, objective approach to the editorials they present. Except, of course, for that lie-filled Ann Coulter piece on their site, but I guess only the stuff written by the marginally human actually counts.

    1. C_R_Eature

I'd like to think that Tucker "came to his senses". However, as I tend to think the worst of him I think it's more likely that he got a Dope Slap from some adult, probably in the Legal profession and was told to do this In No Uncertain Terms Or Else.

  28. Come here a minute

I'm still trying to figure out how to unfold my monitor so I can read the stories below the fold.

  29. Goonemeritus

Having started my professional career working on turbomachinery and other scary rotating equipment I developed a habit of wearing bow ties. This man has destroyed the bow tie as thoroughly as Hitler destroyed a perfectly good mustache style.

  30. MRjonz

Ah, for the good old days, when venerable old gentlemen such as myself could belabor a scoundrel such as Tucker Carlson about the head and shoulders with our walking stick, make him taste the back of a kidskin glove, and then cause him to soil himself in front of his seconds the next morning at sunup with a well place shot past his earlobe at ten paces, after which he dared not show his face in public or his club.

    1. Gainsbourg69

When conservatives whine about the good old days I don't think they look that far back.

  31. Negropolis

It is underneath a gigantic piece alleging some sort of ill-defined venality by Sen. Carl Levin for wanting to install electric car chargers at the Capitol.

Yeah, because helping one of General Motors' products (and those of other electric cars, in fact) is so un-American and unpatriotic, right?

Both men share rocky backgrounds, with Martin having been suspended from school on multiple occasions for various reasons and Zimmerman having previous run-ins with the law.

BTW, I hate false equivalencies like this. Martin was suspended from school. Zimmerman was in actual legal trouble for both resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer and domestic violence. These two things are not the same thing, and even that doesn't really matter to what actually happened that night. To follow it up a sentence latter stating that Martin's disciplinary history shows no signs of violence don't make earlier making the false equivalency any better.

  32. slowhansolo

Hey, that's great. A bit of balance.

But listen. If anyone wants to take on anyone in a heavier weight class than the Daily Fucking Non-Entity That No One Reads Caller, how about some attention to the Associated Fucking Press, which everyone reads, and which put out a lengthy story Friday about how no one should make judgments based on the initial photos, since the dead teen looks TOTALLY different and has gained at least 20 pounds, and meanwhile Zimmerman has lost at least 20 and looks "sharp" in his spiffy jacket.

I mean, shit, let's go where the impact is?

    And yeah, snark, whatever.

  33. Me_K_Cong

I am sick of hearing about pot residue. In our zero tolerance world, pot residue is a chargeable offense. I feel fairly sure, having seen this kind of crap for myself at local high schools, that they had nothing but a panting dog who was tired and wanted to sit down. And since he was black and had been suspended before, they sent him home.

  34. ttommyunger

No, Tucker, we don't want to see your tits. Yes, I'm sure they are awesome, and yes, we still think you are a little trust-fund shit stain.
