Santorum Compares Obama To Hitler, Immediately Denies Comparing Obama To Hitler

you know who else compared obama to hitler?

The wonderful man we are dearly hoping becomes the GOP nominee for president has now joined the rest of the right-wing Internet in comparing President Barack Obama to Nazi Germany mastermind Adolf Hitler. CBS News reports:

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum flatly rejected suggestions that he likened President Obama to Adolf Hitler Sunday when he used an analogy comparing the 2012 election to the buildup to World War II.

“No, of course not,” Santorum said dismissively when asked by a National Journal-CBS News reporter whether he was comparing the two. “The World War II metaphor is one I’ve used 100 times in my career,” he insisted.

Once you compare Obama to Hitler a hundred times, it has magically never happened! [CBS News]

What is really disturbing about this fuckwad is that he is totally sincere in everything he says and does. He has no sense of reference or memory of his positions, and worse: he is not stupid. He is like a goose: he apparently wakes up in a new world every day. Probably more accurately, as a Bush Operative stated some years ago: "We create our own reality.".

    1. Bonghits4Jesus

Yes, his so-called intelligence is hard-wired with no adaptability to observable phenomena. It's like looking at ancient computer and thinking, wow this used to be state-of-the-art and some people are actually still using it!

    3. DemmeFatale

I wish these fuck-nuts with cultural amnesia would watch "Band of Brothers" or a documentary like "Rise and Fall of the Third Reich."
      Obama=Hitler!!??
      I DON'T THINK SO!!

  2. freakishlywrong

So are we to look forward to a formal congressional condemnation of this? Oh, it's only for anonymous left wing bloggers when they make these comparisons to a Republican?

    1. beavertank

Of course, because everyone who's not a republican is (by process of elimination) a nazi. You just have to really get inside congress' collective heads and understand how they think if you want to understand what they do.

"So with the optimistic spirit of America, sometimes, sometimes it's not okay. It'll be harder for this generation to figure it out. There's no cataclysmic event," he said.

What he can't figure out is how a black man was elected President and I hope he never does. I hope he wins the GOP nomination and loses every state in November. I hope he cries on national TV on election night, asking "How could you vote for a blah over me, a devout Catholic?"

See how much fun being hopeful can be?

i've been trying to find a picture of her. she's got to be in the even more awkward teen years now.

and probably a total head case.

  4. prommie

Santorum is just so fucking awful, so fucking grating and obnoxious and revolting and nasty, he's worse than a Tom Hanks movie.

    1. CthuNHu

I'd say he should be thrown into a volcano, but the volcano would probably throw him back, like it did Tom Hanks (and Meg Ryan, and their luggage).

    2. heathenette

I kept thinking Santorum reminded me of some dwebby (yes dwebby) movie guy and finally figured it out. Its the DJ from Good Morning VietNam who wants to keep playing bad music. This so obscure it means nothing to anyone else-but there!

"Americans need to get involved in the upcoming election, he said, in the same way they needed to get involved in fighting Hitler in World War II. "

Dude, is wasn't the liberals, like say FDR, who didn't want the US to get involved in fighting Hitler in World War II; it was the right wing, many of whom like say Henry Ford, Charles Lindbergh and Prescott Bush were actually sympathetic to the Nazis.

    1. chicken_thief

There you go again, SorosBot with your elitist facts and unrevised history. Newt the Historian, along with experts Lou Sarah and One L Michele will tell us all we need to know about the histories.

      1. Mumbly_Joe

You know, I'm a little bummed here: I changed my name back to the original just for effect on this comment, and it ended up going over like a zeppelin filled with hydrogen gas.

  6. edgydrifter

Yeah, relax people. He didn't compare only Obama to Hitler. He compares everyone and everything he disagrees with to Hitler. Obama is just one of many. What's wrong with that, you bunch of friggin' Hitlers?

  7. SayItWithWookies

"We're a hopeful people," Santorum said. "We think, 'Well, you know it'll get better. Yeah, he's a nice guy. I mean, it won't be near as bad as what we think. This will be okay.' I mean, yeah, maybe he's not the best guy after a while, after a while you find out some things about this guy over in Europe who's not so good of a guy after all. You know what, why do we need to be involved?" Santorum said.

First they came for the sick and the weak — and I said nothing, because they were giving the sick and the weak health insurance.

  8. KeepFnThatChicken

You know who else talked about how lies were the new truth?

(deit: goddammit, this is too easy.)

  9. chicken_thief

In honor of Santorum's constant and immediate leap to Hitler, maybe Savage should change the official definition to: "a frothy mix of semen and Nazi fecal matter…."

  10. prommie

I didn't compare him to Hitler, I just said that the people who appease him are like Neville Chamberlain, and his Vice President is like Goering, and his policies are genocidal, and his followers are like storm troopers, and that campaigning against him is like WWII, but I never compared him to Hitler.

  11. Spurning Beer

Now, I'm not saying that Rick Santorum's zealotry makes him the equal of Osama Bin Laden, Mao, Adolph Hitler, Pol Pot, and the Spanish Inquisitors, but….

I can't think of a way to end that sentence.

      1. Studebaker Hawk

His chief weapon is surprise…surprise and fear…fear and surprise…. his two weapons are fear and surprise…and ruthless efficiency…. His three weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency…and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope.

  12. Beowoof

Wow, comparing a moderate republican such as Barack Obama to Hitler is absurd. Really the comparison is much more accurate when talking about Dick Cheney.

    1. beavertank

Oh come on now, that's being unfair to Hitler. He never shot his lawyer, and he didn't start multiple wars purely for personal financial gain.

          1. gullywompr

Hitler had only one big ball. Goehring had two, but they were small. Himmler had something similar.

  13. natoslug

Leave Ricky alone! He WASN'T comparing Obama to Hitler, he was comparing HIMSELF to Hitler. Slap a sweater vest on Adolph and a Chaplin moustache on Santorum and they're indistinguishable.

  14. flamingpdog

"Americans need to get involved in the upcoming election, he said, in the same way they needed to get involved in fighting Hitler in World War II. "

Does that mean Ricky supports increasing the tax rate on the rich to 90 percent and going massively into debt as a nation, while taking women out of the kitchen and sending them into the factories?

    1. Chichikovovich

And initiating widespread public health campaigns to urge young American boys fighting for their country to use condoms?

  15. Dashboard Shmoo

You have to wonder which is worse…being compared to Hitler or a frothy mix of sperm, lube, and shit.

    Tough call.

  16. Chichikovovich

I said this in an earlier thread, but the thread died the second I posted it and people rushed to make "immigrants coming in the backdoor" jokes on the next thread. So I'm recycling.

Here are some of Santorum's remarks, from WSJ via chascates on earlier thread:

At one point Sunday evening, he [Santorum] appeared to compare the crisis Americans currently face to the onset of World War II, led by “this guy over in Europe.” Mr. Santorum seemed to be comparing President Obama to Hitler, but he didn’t say which historical figure he was referring to and his spokesman did not immediately return a request for comment.
“Remember, the Greatest Generation for a year and a half sat on the sidelines while Europe was under darkness,” Mr. Santorum said. “Why? Because we’re a hopeful people. We think, ‘Well, you know, it’ll get better. Yeah, he’s not, I mean, he’s a nice guy. I mean, it won’t be as near as bad as what we think. I mean, you know, this will be OK. I mean, you know, yeah, maybe he’s not the best guy.’ After a while you found some things out about this guy over in Europe, but he’s not so good of a guy after all.”

Note he doesn't say the person who "seemed like a good guy to people like Santorum" was Hitler. And that would be silly – Hitler was obviously a bad guy from the start, nobody outside Germany had any doubt about that. Certainly not by 1939, after Kristallnacht and the Nuremberg laws. And so if Santorum says it's not about Hitler, I believe him. He's obviously be talking about the committed patriotic Catholic defender of "Travail, famille, patrie" (work, family, fatherland) as a proper replacement for "Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité", Family Values conservative and devout collaborator with the Nazis, Vichy France ruler Marshal Phillipe Pétain.

      1. Chichikovovich

There's another good suggestion – though I'm not sure Santorum would have thought of deValera as a bad guy at any point.

Though we have an embarrasment of riches to choose from when it comes to Family Values conservative Catholic fascists who might be the one Santorum is talking about.

Another is Ante Pavelić, conservative Catholic head of the Catholic – endorsed Ustaše, which ruled Croatia during the war and was so enthusiastic in its roundups and killings of Jews that even hardened SS officers were said to be appalled.

          1. Chichikovovich

Priests is the least of it. There were bishops and archbishops working hand in glove with Pavelić, like Ivan Šarić. And of course Archbishop Stepinac was an energetic supporter of Pavelić, though he conveyed reservations about the whole widespread killing of Jews and Orthodox Christians thing. Pius XII elevated him to Cardinal and John Paul II beatified him.

Yep – The Church has done some rather impressive scrubbing and revisionist history concerning not just the role of the Catholic Hierarchy in the Ustaše régime but also the Vatican's tacit and overt support.

This does feel like the end of the Weimar era, only it is not Santorum who is on the Rathenau side of things.
And for a relevant quote from the Weimar era "wonkette" predecessor Karl Krauss: Sexuality poorly repressed unsettles some families; well repressed, it unsettles the whole world.

  18. Antispandex

Well, as someone who has used the Reichstag Fire as a metaphor to explain why the Tea Party is so shameless, I feel it would be wrong of me to judge Mr. Frothy. But, at least I admit it when I use hyperbole. So while I am not sorry that I believe Rick is a Nazi, at least I own it.

    1. Chichikovovich

Make sure that you don't say it 98 more times – there's an autodelete subroutine that clicks into effect at that point.

  19. JustPixelz

"Americans need to get involved in the upcoming election, he said, in the same way they needed to get involved in fighting Hitler in World War II. " — Santorum's reported remarks, apparently calling Obama Hitler

This is the most important election since 1860. — Gingrich's reported remarks, apparently calling for another Civil War.

If I wanted to hear an asshole speak, I'd fart.

    1. GOPCrusher

Considering how everything seems to be a State's Rights issue to the wingnuts, I would agree that they desire another Civil War.

    2. Pres.Beeblebrox

When will a Rethug compare the 2012 election to the War of Jenkin's Ear, or the XYZ Affair, or the Pig War or something less odious than basically calling for open insurrection and/or saying that Obama is a genocidial maniac?

      Never, you say?

      Sorry I asked, then.

  20. Mahousu

Santorum wasn't trying to compare Obama to Hitler; he was trying to compare him to Mussolini. You see, Obama's been trying to get money appropriated for high-speed rail development in just the same way as Mussolini (allegedly) made the trains run on time.

Also, Obama is just like Tojo, since he was born in Hawaii and Tojo bombed Hawaii. "Wait," you say. "I thought Obama was actually born in Kenya but a massive conspiracy covered it up?" Well, you're right. And in just the same way, it was actually FDR who bombed Hawaii, but covered it up with a massive conspiracy. So they're still just the same.

  21. scarface99

what about the jew, saul alinksky! obama is a disciple of a radical jew and the nazi jesus at the same time. that is one sick pud!

  22. billy_reuben

"Americans need to get involved in the upcoming election, he said, in the same way they needed to get involved in fighting Hitler in World War II. "

Pfft, you guys are so presumptuous — always twisting poor Ricky's words in the most uncharitable way. Clearly, in his analogy, Obama is FDR.

  23. nesamone0001

Santorum is just so fucking awful, so fucking grating and obnoxious and revolting and nasty, he's worse than a Tom Hanks movie.

You owe Santorum an apology: he was obviously comparing Romney to Hitler.

  25. lulzmonger

Santorum eleventy-D chess = drive teh skinhead vote to Obama, prove liberal fascism, ?????, PROFIT!
