Today In Rick Santorum Whining News: He Whined Again, Today
Rick Santorum is treating reporters and media organizations today -- all asking for comment on his Super PAC sugar daddy Foster Friess' stunningly offensive comments yesterday about how "gals" should just keep their legs shut -- with the typical Santorum grace, which goes something like "WHINE WHINE WHINE PITY ME WHINE *UGH* WHINE I AM THE VICTIM HERE WHINE." And in today's fresh whine, he even threw in a whiny reference to Jeremiah Wright, to sour things that much more. Don't you look forward to listening to this shrill whine for the next eight years when he's elected Pope?
So, Rick Santorum: The man who pays for your presidential campaign and is your close friend who appears with you on stage everywhere went far out of his way yesterday, while promoting you on cable news, to deliver the most uncalled-for, tone-deaf, poorly timed, cringeworthy line imaginable in that context. Would you care to whine about this in your trademark off-putting snarl that typically makes things worse?
As the furor over Foster Friess’s comments about contraception escalates, and the press obsesses over Rick Santorum’s wealthy backer, the former Pennsylvania senator tells National Review Online that he is “not going to put up with it.”
“You know, [reporters] sit there and they say nothing, while for 20 years [President Obama] sits in a church with a guy who is a racist,” Santorum says. “And somehow or another Foster Friess is now who I am? This is just crap.”
“I went at Charlie Rose this morning a little bit for bringing this stuff up,” he says. “They want to talk about contraception. This is how the media wants to frame me. We have to go out there and keep pounding away.”
Rick Santorum has NO INTEREST in talking about SOCIAL ISSUES like BIRTH CONTROL PILLS or CHURCH. Okay, sure, he may have resurrected his campaign in the last few weeks by demagoguing Obama's "war with the Catholic Church" and wedging the Republican party along culture-war fault lines that proved mathematically convenient to his campaign... but, uh, only because Charlie Rose and those other media people forced him to. He's never had any interest in these things; he never brings them up.
(And this Jeremiah Wright business. How have conservatives sustained this meme about how the mainstream media ignored Jeremiah Wright during the 2008 campaign? Does "months of nonstop scary coverage on all three 24/7 cable news networks and network news shows and in every newspaper and every blog every single fucking day for months and months" fall within the parameters of "saying nothing"?)
Our apologies for getting sidetracked there, Rick. Yes, it's you, you are the innocent victim here, and in every other situation; the victim of media lynch mobs, liberals, Charlie Rose, prevailing news narratives, double standards, modernity, pop culture, grand hypocrites and moral frauds. Woe is you and don't let anybody tell you otherwise.
