Here’s what’s going on in DC today: The ongoing Occupy DC protest at McPherson Square is still ongoing, so stop by and say hi and whatever, and also the long-planned “Stop the Machine” rally against TEN YEARS OF WAR IN AFGHANISTAN is also going, and going big. Here’s a live feed NOW CORRECTED WITH A BETTER FEED THAT’S ACTUALLY LIVE FROM DC:
Free live streaming by Ustream
Freedom Plaza is where people are set up in the video above, assuming the video above is still streaming live. And Freedom Plaza is that rectangular concrete/grass park that’s hilariously in front of the “Ronald Reagan Building,” and just southeast of Treasury and the front (south side) of the White House. The Metro station is Federal Triangle, on the blue and orange lines. Or use Metro Center on the red line and walk down two blocks. Easy!
The weather’s beautiful — sunny and 64 right now — so go have a picnic lunch with the protest, get out of the office and the chain sandwich shop.

Is this about that roving band of armadillos descending on the D.C. area?
I heard about that and I hope they are pink fairy armadillos(real animals- and as cute as they come!)
Where are all the Hoverounds?
Oh, wait.
Needs moar taxes.
Run for your life, it's 99% White, Malkin!
Also, camera guy, relax, smoke a J and SLOW DOWN the camera work – it would be nice to actually have enough time to read some of the signs, dude.
Freedom isn’t free my friend, well not unless you do your whole freedom invasion off budget.
Riots and tigers and bears! Oh shit!
I've seen sewer cameras that are clearer
I must have missed something, as I did not realize that DC at 1:20 p.m. looked an awful lot like NYC at 1:20 a.m.
It *was* a live feed of DC on a nice sunny day, I swear to American Jesus!
Yes, it was, but then it switched to vampire ?NYC. The DC cameraperson was so hyper, I think mebbe he had to take a break and go pee or something.
An eclipse, perhaps?
Damn that’s like watching the Blair Witch Project if witches were all hipsters.
"…also the long-planned “Stop the Machine” rally against TEN YEARS OF WAR IN AFGHANISTAN is also going…"
Yay, Ken — also — keeping Dope alive! with dearly departed Palinisms-turned-erstwhile-memes, as once flogged in these same comment pages.
/Sorry, couldn't help myself.
"I see white people."
I'm too busy scraping the "SPalin in 12" bumper stickers off my cars.
I'm too busy scraping the "SPalin in 12" stickers off my kids.
Better than scraping your kids off of Radio's car bumper.
Some Afghans protesting that war stuff .

Arab spring / American fall. If things get nasty, call Cameron and Sarkozy for help.
Do you really think they might send cruise missles to Fox News?
Shocked and delighted is the new shocked and awed.
Needz moar racism and spitting on black congressmen.
Ken will be the one holding the "Half-breed Muslin" sign.
Just came back from there. It was nice. Friendly crowd, lots of all types of people. About 250-300. LOTS of journalists. LOTS of people handing out flyers for their pet causes. Now back at work.
Also, Freedom "Plaza" (really just a dreadful stone slab bereft of any charm) predates the reagan building by decades. the building's presence there is a historical accident.
Who knew that Dick Gregory was even still alive?
The Occupy Philadelphia forces started at City Hall this morning; while I think that wasn't the best target, I'll be joining them this weekend.
yeah, but you can get soft pretzels there!
Waiting for Goldman Sux to (Golden) parachute their secret weapon, Erin "Briar-Bush" Burnette in from one of their private helicopters. She will deal with these scruffy goons in a language they will understand: shrill shrieking hyperbole, soaked in unintended irony. It won't be long now, she's receiving last minute input from one of our Wall Street Overlords, almost, almost…. NO TEETH, GODAMMIT!
No offense, but what a crappy video shot. The crowd gathered at the plaza is much larger than this backyard barbecue sing-along video would indicate. An "eclectic mix" of the disenfranchised and tourist gawkers.
This can't be posted under the Wonkabout heading – there's no pork products.
No cops?
They are blocked off from Pennsylvania Avenue… with a 3" wide piece of yellow construction tape… I guess no permit for marching to the White House?
FInal proof that Barry's a closet Republican? He's afraid of the masses, too?
Is NPR there yet?
I'm getting nothing but a Philips 66 advertisement. Is this one of those "ironic" things that all the hipster young'uns are into these days?
That, and PBR.
Update from the Left Coast:
Police said Thursday that the number of protesters that had been picketing banks downtown has swelled to about 500 and that a march had taken over the intersection of 7th and Figueroa streets. Officers in riot gear were dispatched to the scene and arrests may be imminent if the protesters did not disperse, police said. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2011/10/ban...
(For those unfamiliar with Los Angeles, that intersection is usually *packed* with cars, so it's a pretty BFD to take it over. Here's hoping the LAPD behave themselves, for once…)
It popped up in the Live Streaming Video feed in between segments. An ad for E-Harmony also popped up, which is thought was weirdly ironic. This was an extended advert that was agency produced but no logo appeared at the end . If I knew how to capture it in full off the feed when it plays again I would. My jaw was on the floor. I really want readers to see this. It was eerie.
Here’s two contrasting videos….the second one is from Sacramento and demonstrates how ignorant the protestors are and how they haven’t a clue about the banksters or the Fed. The first video is a fully informed young man who is inspiring:
In 1941, Hunziker and Krapf defined tourism as people who travel "the sum of the phenomena and relationships arising from the travel and stay of non-residents, insofar as they do not lead to permanent residence and are not connected with any earning activity.
Washington's Birthday is a United States federal holiday celebrated on the third Monday of February in honor of George Washington, the first President of the United States. It is also commonly known as Presidents Day (sometimes spelled Presidents' Day or President's Day). As Washington's Birthday or Presidents Day, it is also the official name of a concurrent state holiday celebrated on the same day in a number of states.
