Bennett “resigned” from the K12 board after an unusually straightforward series of crazed racist ranting about his desire to kill all black children on his own wingnut talk radio program, but there was never a claim that he divested from the corporation.) He also poops out unwanted books now and then, which is one of the more bizarre parts of the American media economy, and is also paid money by CNN both for appearing on its endless, unwatched jabbering panelists programs and also for providing shitty excerpts from his latest book as “web content.” And still, with such a gravy train, this is a person who could only find fulfillment by punching lighted buttons on slot machines like a senile old lady with her oxygen tank parked next to her ashtray. What conservative trope has Bennett dug up and crapped out in book form this time? Oh something about how when “we” (conservative men) weren’t looking, the womens went and stole “our” prestige and jobs and whatever.

Silly story from my professional past re dirtbag Bennett. I used to teach middle school English, and someone had purchased, somewhere along the line, an entire hardcover (!) classroom set of Bennett's crappy Book of Virtues. I never used them, of course, and never intended to, so when we moved into a new school one year, I took the opportunity to, um, purge the inventory. It was great fun, standing at those giant 4 x 6-foot open windows with a bunch of kids chucking Bennett's trashy tome, one by one, out the window into the dumpster two floors down. Heh.

And instead of telling men that it's a tough world and that they need to work harder if they want to get ahead, the conservative movement wants to "fix" this problem by teaching boys to play victim more effectively. And of course it's the fault of "the system" that boys aren't getting ahead. If Bob beats Alice, it's because Bob worked harder and Alice would be happier in Home Ec anyway. But the microsecond Alice beats Bob, it's because Bob was defeated by the subtle systemic female biases he faced.
Here's a fucking clue: Men are being defeated by male chauvinism and entitlement. Girls are taught to work hard and fight through obstacles. Boys are just expected to do well because they are boys. If they don't do any work, well shucks, boys will be boys. What's really fucked up about this is that even with women earning more degrees, they still continue to earn less $ than men. And any narrowing of the wage gap has been done not by raising wages for women, but but falling wages for men.
