Let’s see, things that are currently still more fun than having a favorable opinion of President Barack Obama: “mowing your lawn with a pair of dull scissors, using a cell phone with a cracked screen but that kind of still works, being allergic to sunshine, jogging.” 4 REALZ, PPL: Obama is down to 39% in the latest Gallup poll, which is “the lowest presidential approval rating that anyone has ever had, ever, or at least that’s how it feels, okay?” SO QUICK …what should an unpopular politician do to raise ca$$$h when “being good at your job” fails to do the trick? Duh, learn from the master: Obama kicked off a Midwestern bus tour today, just so he can follow Sarah Palin around to see How It Is Done.
Oh look, he has already learned one of  Sarah Palin’s tricks. Blame everybody else for everything wrong all the time, 24/7, “as though your job depends upon it.”
From The Hill:
Obama is expected to use the three-day trip to highlight his own criticism of Congress and Washington as he increasingly looks to run against Washington in 2012 despite four years on the job in the Oval Office.
White House officials suggest the president is eager to spend more time outside of Washington as he looks to shake the debt-ceiling hangover.
“During the debt-ceiling debate we were trapped here, it felt like, for many, many weeks,” White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer said Friday. “He got his first trip out of Washington [last week] to Michigan, and he’s looking forward to traveling back home to Illinois, to Minnesota, and also, of course, to Iowa, which is a place that always has had a special connection with this president and this White House.”
See, Obama hates being nailed down at his job as much as everyone else in America. No wonder Sarah Palin just holds family vacations for money these days. [The Hill/Gallup]

Hmm looks like our 40% deadenders still outnumber the 20% who approved of bush/cheney. Wake up sheeple, also.
I'm one of the 40%, and I don't support him anymore. He is a monumental failure. We have a Dem president and Senate, yet the Tea Party gets exactly what they want. He caves every single fucking time. When will we get over the love affair with who we hoped he would be? He ain't that guy. Primary challenge.
I'm just sick of our side getting punked (prison punked, not Ashton Kutcher). We should all demand more. We should stop supporting abject failure so willingly.
By definition, anyone who supports a primary challenge isn't part of the 40%. That's pretty much the opposite of approving.
Interestingly, Obama has lost more support from right-leaning Dems than from left/liberal Dems. If you're a liberal Dem who supports a primary challenge, you're really a minority of the disapproving liberal Dems who are in turn a minority of total registered Dems. I have no idea where that puts you in total percentage of voters.
/pedant
So you're literally the one person here a few others are bitching about and equating to the entirety of Wonkette. Aren't you just adorable.
Since you are so touchy about this, I quote myself:
"…the heavy-handed Barry-haters…"
"…The more aggressive purveyors of anti-Barry anger and gloom…"
If I ever said, or even thought, that those folks represented the entirety of Wonkette, I would have stopped reading and commenting here a long time ago.
Permission to speak freely, Sir? The 5 "people," mostly without avatars, who show up here primarily to Barry-bash, usually with little or no substance, and who seem unsatisfied unless they have extracted some kind of concession to abandon supporting Obama and Democrats from someone, anyone, get on my fucking nerves, and I reserve the right to satirize their opinions and motives.
There's about 3 or 4 of them that I've seen, and I would never equate them with the entirety of Wonkette. I made a point of saying "some people" in the comment that bothered you earlier for that very reason. I'm still sort of befuddled by your take that "some people" equates to the entire Wonkette blog.
It's a nice day here in D.C. today. Overcast and cool. I hope the weather in your neck of the woods is equally good. Ciao!
I, for one, am glad someone is following Sara Palin around. She and her family are dropping kids like those take out styrofoam bins from McDonalds.
That entire clan is like aphids: born pregnant.
Type 1 or GTFO.
Really. Those type 2 poseurs are such a pain.
This is good news for chlamydia, also.
He should write another book, like Herman Cain's immensely popular "The Power Of Pizza-tive Thinking."
Or his other book: "The Seven Pizza Toppings of Highly Effective People."
Or his hit children's album "Free To Be…Extra Cheese."
"The Five Pizzas You Eat in Heaven"
"The Pizza Driven Life".
Who Moved My Cheesy Bread?
Thought it was "A Pizza My Mind".
Audacity of Anchovies?
Pepperoni Pizza for the HFCS soaked soul?
OMG. You opened a door a crack and the wonkeratti punsters all ran through at once.
On a serious note, I heard that Cain is such a fan of country music that he's bought the rights to Shawnia Twain's (or Faith Hill's–who the fuck can tell them apart?) egregious cover of the Janis Joplin and The Holding Company's " Take Another Little Pizza My Heart. "
Ain't it beautiful.
"Don't ask what Cheesesus Christ can do for you, but what you can do for Cheesesus Christ".
I can't tell you how excited I was to win the eBay auction for an autographed copy of "What Color Is Your Pepperoni" but I think it's signed in invisible ink…
I actually am allergic to sunshine. (True fact.)
Yeah, I got nothing. Bammerz, I still love ya a little bit, but you dug your own hole on this one.
Oh man, that sounds awful. I hope you're one of those "I step out in the sun and I sneeze once or twice" people rather than one of those "I step out in the sun and my skin breaks out into a painful rash of busting red pustules" people.
I'm more of a "my skin is very fair, so it would sunburn in about 15 minutes, but sunscreen does help, but more annoyingly, I get a headache from being out in direct sun for more than 20-30 minutes, even with sunscreen, sunglasses, and proper hydration."
Good thing I live in the Pacific NW, isn't it?? I've considered moving to Newfoundland, especially after I read The Shipping News. So much gloom!
Well there is always Ketchikan, much grayer than C'Addle. Question then would be if your liver could take living there.
Ugh, Sarah Palin land. The beauty of Alaska is forever tainted for me. Canada or bust.
Heh. Just got an email from my sister faintly complaining about it hitting 80° at her place in the Bay Area. I replied that I won't see an overnight low of 80° for another 3 weeks, more than likely. But I do feel your pain.
If he needs a dog to tie to the bus roof, I'll volunteer my neighbor's.
That only works for the Mormon candidates.
My lovely ex-BF has a madly barking dog that lives opposite him, so he downloaded a series of dog whistles and plays them full blast-unheard by him-when it starts barking ,so now he has total control of the dog!
Sounds brilliant. How could you let go of an innovator like that?
He is one of my best friends , we broke up about 12 years ago after 3 years together. Not much sexytime chemistry but an insanely similar sense of humour .
Relationships that survive the initial mutual infatuation are often the best.
There's hope for us then, that's what you're saying.
"Hi, I'm Barack Obama. Pleased to make your annoyance."
There goes his one NASCAR supporter…
Oh, will he be coming to Columbus, Ohio?
I will be happy to tell him he should have listened to the liberals for once in his life.
And not Timmeh Geithner.
P.S. And this is what the
BushObama DOJ is up to. (Leura Canary, fyi.)~
So, "Obama DoJ" in the sense that Bush stacked Career with unqualified, unethical politicos with full knowledge that it would take decades to undo that particular damage?
Honestly, the only sense in which this is on Obama is that Dems really do need to be much more aggressive about investigations and prosecutions where warranted. All this "page turning" keeps the bad apples in-house and rots out your administration's roots (with apologies for the mixed metaphor).
Reagan fired all the U.S. Attorneys when he was elected President and appointed his own.
Bill Clinton fired all the U.S. Attorneys when he was elected President and appointed his own.
G.W. Bush fired all the U.S. Attorneys when he was elected President and appointed his own. (And then he did some midterm, politically motivated firings which should have gotten his ass impeached.)
Obama put Eric Holder and Lanny A. Breuer in charge of G..W. Bush's DOJ, and announced that they would replace a batch of U.S. Attorneys.
You can't claim "the Republicans wouldn't let Obama do something" when there's no evidence Obama ever tried or wanted to do that thing. (See public option for health insurance for another example.)
Obama and Holder announced that "we're looking forwards and not backwards" and gave Bush/Cheney/Rove a pass on even investigating all the crimes they'd committed during the previous 8 years. And we have the DOJ that we have because of their decisions.
~
Right, they should have outsed more, but we still have the clusterfuck that is the Senate approval process since January 2009. Seems doubtful we'd have actually seated any replacements by now, judging by the Senate's track record to date. Should Reid have instituted serious rules reform? Absolutely. But let's not pretend there's only one crappy negotiator at fault here. And let's also not pretend that the Rethugs wouldn't rather keep our justice system understaffed indefinitely, if it means keeping a Democratic president from filling seats at Justice.
It's interesting to note that the clause by which Bush gave his own DoJ the ability to appoint interim US attorneys for indefinite terms in 2006, and this power then got taken away and signed into law in 2007 -after the damage had been done, but just in time to keep a Democrat from having that power. Rather amusing, that.
That "Harper's" article is great, if only for the term bingo-gambling mogul.
It's not Obama that's the problem, it's all them vacations his wife takes.
And the burgers she eats!
But will he drag the brooding brood along, like those little-Santorums-that-could?
And what of Bo? If Bo ends up tied to the roof of the bus, I will be officially over Hopey.
If he'd start acting more like a liberal and less like a Reagan clone he would be immensly popular.
# WINNING
Precisely. He needs to take a look at the polling data, pick out 4 or 5 things the Amurrikan people want, forcefully present them and never ever compromise on them.
Or he could try not folding like a lawn chair on issue after issue. He can't have it both ways. If he were fighting and losing I could respect him but he's not. Just sayin'.
Leading by polls implies weakness. Actually doing what the people who elected you want and need? NOT IN MY AMERICA.
Problem is Obama thinks acting like a Reagan clone does make him popular. Look back (yeah, you can, even though he can't look back) at his 2008 campaign – he likened himself to Reagan, not Roosevelt.
Sadly true.
And he ain't stopped.
Obama does too "act like a liberal." He does it every time he campaigns for office.
Dude, he is a good bit to the right of where Reagan was. Not the rhetoric, but definitely the actions.
Good… put the blame where it belongs-
Bush Recession
Repugnant Congress holding us hostage
Boehner is orange
Cantor is a little crybaby bitch
Etc…
Bammerz: "How ya like me now?"
Thanks for coming out, Bamz.
Answer: not nearly as much as I used to. I wish you would just go back to the office and kick those teabaggers in their trucknutz.
He Needs more SHAFT and less Carlton from the Fresh Prince of Belair.
I find the best cure for a debt-ceiling hangover to be a big Gatorade, Alka-Seltzer, and oral hate-sex with a banker.
Banker, I just met her! But, OK.
always with the oral, you.
Yeah, I know. It's only because MrTaken bailed so I must release my pent up frustrations on my fellow wonketteers!
LOL I have some pent-up frustrations to release, also.
Hmmm … I'm not a banker but I could put on a suit, make you fill out a ton of paperwork, and then not lend you any money.
I think I just had an organism.
It must be hard to get up much enthusiasm for a hate-suck. To give one, I mean; there are those whom I would delight in blessing with an oral hate-load.
Bukkake FTW!
Does s/he do you or do you do him/her? Or is it mutual?
Obama Now Less Popular Than Adult-Onset Diabetes, Basically
The evidence would speak to the contrary…
Which prompts the question how Obama plans to capture the Diabetes vote. Free Anus-Burgers slathered in Baconnaise for everyone?
I still got ya back Obama,100 percent (snark free).
Me too, LabRodent, we will stand firm.
As long as my blood pressure doesn't get too high, I should be able to stand firm as well. I'd rather not have to beg you to sponsor my emigration to your fine Knifecrime Isle.
Lizzie, I have been deeply in love with you for several months now. (Ever since the post where you talked about arching your back while riding your boyfriend). But please baby, please baby, baby baby please, how can I fantasize about you if you are so compliant and accepting of the actions of our sissy ass President? Please, at least tell me you are pissed off that he is such a scaredy-baby. Come on, give me something to work with, here. Give me something to hold onto.
Of course I am angry, so angry that it makes my back arch , but I am a realist and I think to really slam on him makes it so much easier for the Republicans to see an opening.
Oh and thanks for being deeply in love with me…fabulous!
He's been testing me lately, and as Bill Mahr pointed out last week, he is not my boyfriend.
I'm still a supporter though, for now. Try not to be such a hack, though, Barry.
I'm in Hopey's camp.
And the 61% disapproval is from the DailyKOSers alone!
They never will forgive him for letting Rick Warren give his Invocation at the Inauguration.
As well they shouldn't, but that shouldn't cost him their support, alone.
"Kosholes" is the preferred appellation.
"Kosbags"
To be fair, I think some KOSers probably write screeds about the moral deficiency of milk when their cereal gets soggy. They just can't help themselves.
Lefties. If we're not beating the everloving shit out of each other, we're just not happy.
Given the numbers, I thought Type-II adult-onset diabetes was really popular in this country.
There's certainly no shortage of volunteers for that diet.
Oblameo could dress up in a Hitleresque riding crop uniform and say he is a "cadet" to stir up a little novelty.
Don't do that, don't put that crazy thought in my dirty , little brain.
Lizzie, I'll bet you'll want to see his sword.
I spent all morning at the dentist , having a root canal re-done, so I have intense pain , my already fairly puffy lips are drastically swollen on one side and I am about to drop some codeine, so even if Barry showed up sword in hand, as it were, I might have to politely decline.
Dental torture is not sexytime. Enjoy your codeine with a glass of wine, then frequently comment on the Wonkettes — that'll help.
I'll just keep these in mind. NSFW
Poor, poor baby. Careful with that codeine, it's one drug that will explode your liver. But a nice little hit of the green painkiller on the vape would probably help.
You have the very strangest sense of humor.
I like to pretend that Obama is nuking the teabaggers in that picture…
The pdog lurves that picture. It's its Facebook avatar these days, to the chagrin of some of its Obama-lurvin' FB friends.
Have you been taking diction lessons from Bob Dole?
Cicada finds this very amusing.
Bob Dole says Bob Dole is 88 years old now. Bob Dole says Bob Dole must be doing something right. The pdog hopes it makes it to 88, except when the pdog muses about what the US will actually be like in 30 years, when Bristlecone Palin is the Preznit. Now the pdog haz the sadz.
Cicada doesn't have to worry about that because Cicada is an insect. Cicada says bring on the nukes, meatsacks!
Perhaps he will come upon a pair of testicles.
Easy, Marcuth, I mean "testicles" in the figurative sense.
Could try on some truck-nutz… might help.
I still have the love, call me crazy, plus I cannot imagine the alternative -look how smashingly that worked in 2010.
Yep. Well just because I am gonna vote for him does NOT mean I approve of the job he is doing. I guess you knew that already tho.
Oh good, because I am terrified that Brother Cornel West and Tavis Smiley are going make everyone stay home .http://www.democracynow.org/2011/8/9/cornel_west_tavis_smiley_on_obama
Of all people, Steve Harvey ripped those clowns completely new assholes on the radio last week:
http://www.angryblacklady.com/2011/08/09/steve-ha...
And then their bus got ambushed in Detroit:
http://www.wxyz.com/dpp/news/region/detroit/detro...
Sorry, butthurt white progressives, black folks aren't really buying into the Hopey-Hate.
Neither are us immigrants!
This is interesting.http://weeseeyou.com/2011/08/12/progressive-angst-and-president-obama-its-not-him-its-you/
Nice links!
Today I Learned: Steve Harvey does not equal Paul Harvey. Use the wrong internal narration though and things are a little more interesting.
Can they find out who really is paying for Tavis Smiley's buses, cause man, if it was freedomworks, my brain would explode. I know money is green, but I can't imagine Cornel West and Dick Armey doing anything together. That was good perspective though. Steve Harvey is a smart man, and he also saved Family Feud. I could listen to him put people in their proper places all day.
Wooo!!! Damn, I knew I shoulda been reading HER blog. She is one cool lady. Nobody seems to be buying into the Hopey-Hate as much as the press, fashoor. They were trying to convince us that Jews had turned their back on Obama, but not one of my Jewish friends/acquaintances/colleagues supports anyone else. Then they told us Latinos were turning their backs on the President, but that turned out to be a lie too. Black people are not so dumb that they don't see the concerted effort to get the first-ever Black President out of office by any means, foul or fair. In fact, preferably foul.
Thanks for the linkyz.
To be fair, everybody's bus gets ambushed in Detroit. It's how Detroit welcomes its guest. Hell, some crooks stole the rims off the mayors SUV while the thing was parked in his building's garage.
As usual, it's a choice between the lesser of two evils. And everyone the GOP is cosidering is many powers of 10 more evil.
Well, I've said elsewhere: he has my vote, because America really is a lesser-of-two-evils-takes-all sort of country. Hopey's not a fascist, and given the Republican field, that's all a Democrat needs to be to get my vote atm.
THAT SAID: he ain't getting my Ameros. The real lesson of 2010 is that post-Shittizen's United, the worst thing you can do, to get the politicians you want, is to give them your money. Instead, give it to interest groups, to PACs, etc. etc. People who will lend their strength to people who toe their line, without giving them the cash to do whatever they want once they're elected. Ultimately, I trust progressive interest groups to be progressive tomorrow, and to keep nudging candidates that want their support, way more than I trust the candidates to be the same person once they get elected and don't need my money any more.
Which organizations have surveyed the field of Congressional seats in play in 2012 and developed a concrete list of those we have a chance of winning, and will spend our donations to capture those seats?
Limey, I love ya but I'm going to have to disagree.
2010 was a result of Obama not doing what his voters voted for the prior two years.
In response, he's doubled down on trying to please people who vote Democratic via coin flip. In other words, he's giving me the finger, along with all the people who are still getting mauled by the Bush-Obama economy.
And then there's the foreign policy…does anyone really think we aren't torturing people anymore (not that the average USA citizen gives a hoot)?
~
Then theoretically, you should not give a shit whether he is reelected or not.
I look at it this way, things are bad, but not half as bad as the post-apocalyptic Hell we would be in if President McCain and V.P. Palin was in charge.
I'm gonna have to disagree and cite the double whammy of an off-year election and the Citizens United ruling as the reason for 2010.
I'll cite the triple whammy of those two things plus the shock of all those old white Teabaggers that America actually elected one of "those people" to the White House.
Hopefully, some of those useles-ass mothafuckas have bought the farm with all the furry li'l creeturs on it since.
Spot on.
me too.
My preferred way of shaking a hangover is a blueberry-ginger smoothie- it works, and it's healthy, so you can make up for some of those drink calories and drunken eating calories, while you're at it.
Going out to Real America and talking to "The American People" on the other hand? At best, all you're going to do is replace that hangover with a suicidal depression.
P.S, doesn't hangover imply some sort of sobering wake-up following revelry? I'm not sure it's a "hangover" if you're waking up with a headache because you just got whaled on for twelve rounds the previous night.
Mmmm. Ginger, I like my men and my spices that way.
I think it's the "drunk" part that makes the hangover, not the "revelry" part.
I suppose "punch-drunk" is a type of drunk, technically.
At yet, he's still managing to beat all the Republicans actually running for President. Thank you, teabaggers, for making sure only the nuts are in it!
A Republican primary is like a rabies line-up down at Animal Control.
You vote for the craziest person that's foaming at the mouth….
Yay! Race to the bottom! Last one gets to be Pres.
I wish Fred Thompson and his red pickup truck nuts were in it again.
OK, not really.
Meh – if the Republicans were to actually run a centrist candidate (I know), maybe the left-wing would be getting a little more out of the Dems. As it is, the liberals are pretty much taken for granted and even moderately left leaners are not in play.
You know who else was unpopular with the American public?
Dubya
Notice I didn't add a question mark.
Tricky Dicky?
That one hooker with braces.
HITLER!!!
~
Kitten with Hitler moustache?
Jordan with a Hitler moustache?
That guy that really didn't kidnap Lindburgh's baby but they killed anyway?
I suppose he lived in Rick Perry's Texas.
Ishtar?
All of them, Katie.
(We're gonna ride that meme 'til it's dead, aren't we?)
Both of them, Lettuce.
John Dillinger
Brown peeps?
Did they stop making them? the cocoa ones? Not that I ever eat Peeps- they say the eyes made of carnuba wax never leave your stomach.
I can state from experience that when you microwave Peeps for a minute and 45 seconds on the high setting, you get brown/black Peeps.
Woody Allen?
Charles Grodin?
Herbert Hoover?
Emiliano Zapata?
Casey Anthony?
Keanu Reeves?
Fred Thompson?
Casey Anthony?Goddamn it, late to the party again. And Hitler's taken, too.
I'm gonna go with "Tim Pawlenty."
Who?
There's just NO LOVE anywhere for Timmeh, is there?
As Josef Stalin once, said, it would be easier if this was a dictatorship.
I think that was W. Cheney, on the other hand, was fond of saing "Vas der fuhrer vas alive…" before every policy statement.
If he was Supreme Dictator, Bamma would STILL find some way to cave to the Repigs.
Obama may be less popular than a case genital herpes, but Republicans are less popular than 2 cases of genital herpes.
Or two weeks in Philadelphia.
On the whole.
Oh shit, not a bus. The Teabaggers will probably invent a conspiracy about the bus fumes.
I'm late, but yes they did. It's made in Canada.
DID YOU CHECK THE AIR IN THE TIRES ON THAT BUS, MISTER PRESNIT?? HENGGGHH?!!..
"An estimated 285 million people, corresponding to 6.4% of the world's adult population, will live with diabetes in 2010."
Of course, even today, Obama is more popular than Adult Diabetes.
However, among the Glenn Beck/Rush/FOXNEWS crowd, the Diabetes numbers soar…
“During the debt-ceiling debate we were trapped here, it felt like, for many, many weeks,” White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer said Friday.
Seriously, stop f****** whining already. You're the president. The GOP wanted to screw with Harry Truman too. Did he whine and play nice? No, he went on big train tour letting the American people know that the Republicans could kiss his ass.
I don't have enough up votes for this.
Dan Pfeiffer is the President?
Upfisted. Obama is basically gutless. Also, i love that about a sixth of the user names here are MST related.
Mike Nelson is a hardcore conservative, so that's sort of ironic.
Way to tarnish my MST3K love. Oh well, at least they can point at one funny conservative.
I try not to let it bother me, but he apparently reads Town Hall daily and loves the National Review. It's funny, because Trace Beaulieu and Frank Conniff are anything but conservative. I imagine they didn't discuss politics much on the set.
I always liked the Joel episodes better.
Less popular than diabetes, more popular than cancer – and Republicans. I guess bailing on the base will really hurt your overall numbers. But who the fuck are we going to vote for – Ricky? Fuck that – I'll leave Merika first.
"Obama is expected to use the three-day trip to highlight his own criticism of Congress and Washington as he increasingly looks to run against Washington in 2012 despite four years on the job in the Oval Office."
That seems like a lot of work. Maybe he should just have the Navy SEALs shoot someone that most Americans find dangerous or just annoying. I think one of the basic ground rules, though has to be that the person is a foreigner.
I choose Rush Limbaugh .
Seconded. He's a Dominican isn't he?
Boner is an oompah loompah. They're British, aren't they?
He's from the Oxycontinent.
A round of thumbs for all.
By osmosis, if nothing else.
"Oh look, he has already learned one of Sarah Palin’s tricks. Blame everybody else for everything wrong all the time, 24/7, “as though your job depends upon it.”
In the words of the immortal Mrs. Andy Capp (Flo), "It's not whether you win or lose, it's how you place the blame."
Upfisting for days for Andy Capp!
My favorite ill-mannered layabout!
Andy Capp/Chalkie 2012!
Flo for FLOTUS/2012!
There's something about an unemployed drunk wife-beater.
Do they still sell those "chips?" Are they "chips" or "crisps," when they are made in the shape of a "french fry," which you would call a "chip," but sold like a chip, which you would call a "crisp?" Everything I know about Merrie Olde Englande I learned from A Fish Called Wanda, you know.
Yes they do. And they still taste great with beer.
Crisps, me old China, are the ones pre-cut in the bag that they sell at the pub, the ones ya Granny makes or that they sell at the Fish and Chippy are “chips”.
"China?" Vagina? Angina? Carolina?
I was so disappointed-I got fish and chips in London in fake newspaper!!
yeah, but then Andy popped her one in the yap for being a smartass.
This is not Chicago Thug I can believe in.
Dude's softer than the new, improved, Mike Tyson. He needs to get some of that old Mike Tyson attitude. Bite one of Boner's ears off.
"Mmmm… tastes citrusy!"
I would'a never thought that the brother I voted for had so little street in him. More Pug than Thug.
Geez, the guy is raised by his white grandparents in Hawai'i, and his whitewhitewhitewhitewhite Mom (lovely lady, but very ethnic KANSAN), and got where he did by dint of studying his fucking ass off, and you're surprised that he's more of white nerd than a street thug?
Gah! Guys, he had to lie about being progressive, and changing Washington, or else you would have picked that Clinton lady if you knew they were both righties. Gah!
Nope. She spent most of her money on Mark Penn (GEEZ!) and hired nimrods who squabbled all the time — had all the big money donors, and ended up broke. Not my idea of a good candidate.
Meh. Obama could turn up on TV buggering a blonde boy scout, eating a human baby, and still get re-elected.
Pfft, buggering a blonde boy scout would just be another way of "reaching across the aisle" to the Rethuglicans.
Republicans would never give the courtesy of a reach-around.
Nor the courtesy of bus fair home.
Cost me $1.25 last time…..
ohhhh!
(gotta remember to use my inner typing)
Best of WEEK.
With the death spiral trajectory that the Republiklan nomination process is going in, President Obama could be the first President re-elected in a 50 state landslide.
As long as it were an actual baby… not some fetus.
Bamerz, I know you or your people read the Wokette, so here's what I want you to do: Start talking trash about Republicans. Even if you don't mean it (god knows how you're able to stand upright without a spine) it'll double your approval, or my name isn't whatever it is this week! Pick a fight–you are on the right side of this. A little too right.
Agreed. While commenting on any of the current GOP presidential hopefuls would be sort of like picking on the special ed kid in elementary school, in this case it has to be done.
Oh, but can you imagine the pearl-clutching GOP shrieks if this ever came to pass? And I'm not even talking about Boehner's teary press releases.
Especially after the rending of clothing that occurred over McCain calling Tea Baggers "hobbits".
And Biden calling them "Terrorists"!
Where can I contribute to the Obama's summer vacation? Is there a link? A HopeyPAC or something?
Send money to restaurants in Martha''s Vineyard- the secret service were there last week getting ready for the visit.
If I were Barack Obama, I'd somehow entice Warren Buffet to go traveling 'round the country with me, with Buffet explaining how we need to raise taxes on bajllionaires like he did in the Times today. Then I'd get Michelle pregnant–many Americans will think that's adorable. Maybe adopt another dog or two. Pretend he loves country music. Just some thoughts.
Isn't Bachman too old?
What if he lets Sara Benincasa to carry his baby, instead?
Reading the Yahoo comments this AM, the howls of rage about his comments where comical.
I know, I know, the guy is pretty much like, "I'm paying 20% taxes and you're paying 35%, and you're probably making 0.000001% of what I'm making, and that's kind of unfair." And they just hate, hate him for it. This is why we're doomed.
I dunno, his whole "adopting the dog" process for the kids was already fraught with political meaning, from leftie-types saying he should have adopted from a shelter to teabaggie mouth-breathers saying he was elitist for getting a fancy "non-allergenic" breed.
He should probably just leave that part alone.
speaking of people people hate, snowgrifter been kinda quiet lately.
i wonder why?
Oh now you've done it, fuflans, invoking She Who Must Not Be Named like that. I expect a nonsensical twat to be pooped out any second now. (And no, I'm not referring to the latest Palin spawn.)
She saving herself for her Labor Day Keynote address to a Tea Bagger conference, here in Iowa.
maybe one of her other kids is getting ready to deliver another unmarried mom baby
Well, if you need a Palin fix, over on another post, DashboardBuddha posted a link to Tawd saying out loud what we already knew to be true, about teh grift:
http://maddowblog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/08/15/...
They should let Tawd out more!
They would if they could just keep him away from the hookers.
Don't worry, they'll bounce back up after Ramadan.
Yeah, but the approval rating of both Congress and God are also down.
One of those two never does what I want, and the other one is enshrined in marble.
God has been doing a real shit job of it, lately. It's almost like he's not even there, like he doesn't really even exist.
His poll numbers will shoot back up after he eats a couple of corndogs.
And smokes a carton of Marlboro Lights.
And a photo of Barry munching funnel cakes and, especially, Dippin' Dots, the ice cream of the future.
I think this trip is a perfect time to announce the plan to start taxing churches.
And requiring them all to publish their accounts.
Wait, churches are people too!
And legalize cannabis, also.
The pdog lived in and near the evil District of Columbia when it was a pup, and left mainly because it was sick to death of the heat and humidity. What is it with these bozos that spend brazilians of bucks and half their lives to get elected and move to D.C., and then all they do is bitch and moan about what a horrible place it is and that they can't wait to get out of town? It's not going to be any better once they get back, because they're what makes it "horrible" in the first place! No snark, I wish phuckwads like that would just get out of Dodge for good and forever!
End of rant.
I came here for the snark but ended up applying to Kishwaukee College. Thanks Wonkette. *fingers crossed*
My concern is Hopey is catching the Carter malaise. Needz moar angry. To put a LL spin on it, a lefty Churchill rather than an accommodating Neville Chamberlain. There were brief and staff glossed-over episodes of pique during the debt-ceiling, but when it was clear what was coming he shoulda tossed a couple of chairs or verbal grenades at the Teaparty McCaucus.
Can't you see the Repubs painting him as a scary angry black man then? Instead of just being a dangerous uppity one who dared to take their spot in the White house? He has to remain cool, but he takes it too far.
He's caught between a rock and a hard place with that. There's numerous photos on WingNutDaily of him looking somewhat peeved, with headlines that all but scream "ANGRY BLACK MAN." And when they're not doing that, it's cartoons of Michele taking the head off a wimpy, terrified little Barry as she stuffs her face full of delicious anusburger corn syrup cakes. The man can't fucking win, with these asshole racists. And make no mistake, it's all about race with that lot, and they are polluting and infesting the national discourse.
rAmen!
Sorry to link to Salon, but it was either that or Politico…this is just fucking disgraceful.
http://www.salon.com/news/politics/war_room/2011/...
Rick W. Perry – the "doesn't have respect of the troops" theme was in play when Bush took over from Clinton. Some of the most fawning, nausea-inducing writing abounded about how they could take pride in their service again. Of course, I'm pretty sure GWB had other people talk that point up for him. Poor Rick has to say it himself.
I would have thought that the Somali pirate situation and the whole Osama being shot in the head thing, would have prevented this kind of talk from the Republiklans.
I guess Rick Perry has been too busy figuring out how to drink his own piss to pay attention to current events.
New. Perry training video for thirsty Texan's. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orGYVG4J43Y
Democrats are soft on defense – no need to let reality interfere with this meme.
Funny, because if I had to guess, I'd say the morale of our troops was probably at its highest its been in the past 20 years, when Clinton left office. You know, right after the conclusion of Bosnia and Kosovo, the last full-on conflicts which could be called a "win" on the US's part (as opposed to an unending objectiveless quagmire of death that's bankrupting our nation by the day; c.f. Iraq, Afghanistan).
I don't know. Suicide rates in the military are still pretty damn high, although I haven't done a comparison to previous years. But the troops were pretty solidly behind the President in 2008, mainly thanks to Gee, Dumb? Yeah, Bush! I suspect they haven't given up on Hopey any more than most of the rest of us working not-rich types have.
You mean that our troops are better off not being in an endless war with no clearly defined goals? Why do you hate America?!?
If you linked it, I would even go to Slate.
…. I just threw up a little
Yes, well, I've never respected Rick because he's a self-loathing hypocritical closet case. So we're sorta even there.
Please deity even though I don't believe in you, please let a GIANT golden eagle poop right on Rick Perry's haid. Preferably in front of all the horrified Iowans. Live on national TV. I'll start going to church again, honest. Or temple, mosque, anything. Just DO IT.
We've seen this movie before, and it's fucking disgraceful every time. I don't know what Perry think he's doing, because this certainly doesn't win him anymore votes than what he engergizes on the other side by this shameless bullshit.
This is what will get Perry in trouble; he will literally say anything, anything for a potential vote. He's the biggest whore in the race.
"what should an unpopular politician do to raise ca$$$h when “being good at your job” fails to do the trick?"
Sarcasm right???
The President has been good at his job in the same way charlie Sheen has been winning.
Here's a pretty nifty list of Obama accomplishments.
Off the top of my head
- HCR (no, we didn't get everything we wanted)
- repeal of DADT
- EPA is going to classify CO2 as a pollutant
- did over some Somali pirates with sniper action
- committed to Iraq & Afghanistan pull-out timetable
- ended enhanced interrogation
- started FTC bureau of consumer protection
there was another one I'm sure I'm forgetting. Osammy pin Walden or something?
Let's look at a list of his promises.
* His HCR plan was superior to Hilz because it didn't have an individual mandate and included a public option.
* Promised to close Gitmo
* Promised to "fix" FISA. that was after he broke his promise to filibuster the bill he he was a lowly senator
* Promised to allow the Bush tax cuts to expire
* Promised to veto any compromise that didn't also include revenue increases during the debt ceiling debate.
Look, vote for who you want to vote for but by any objective measure, he folds whenever his policy choices meet vocal opposition. That's irrefutable and it's a deal breaker for me at least.
Pretty much. Yeah. Haven't felt as lied to by a guy I voted for in a loooooong time.
First there was the Wall St. bailout. Then there was the failure to link the raising of the debt ceiling with the extension of the Bush tax cuts, which would have avoided what we all had to endure. Then there were the long negotiations that wound up giving up Boehner 98% of what he wanted. And now there is 9.2% unemployment, which The New Yorker says is really 16% unemployment if you count people who have given up, and is probably 40% chronic unemployment in some "disadvantaged" places….so…all in all…things are not looking very positive.
Do you honestly believe that Boehner got 98% of what he wanted? Rev. Al took that claim apart pretty well. Boehner "wanted" cuts in Social Security that would go ONLY to providers, not to recipients? Hardly likely, it's the providers that vote for the Boehners of this world. Boehner WANTED to let the debt deal go through 2013? That's not what he, or any other Republican said. They said they were going to make sure the Democrats had to fight this whole battle again this September (2011, when they would get another short-term extension) and then again next year right before the elections.
Exactly what did Boehner get that constitutes "98% of what he wanted"? I'm not seeing it anywhere. Feel free to point it out.
Update Minnesota: Obama's approval rating has increased
100% among women voters across the country with his unexpected, or announced, speech today.
Male Republican ratings approval of the President also went up by 73%.
See speech here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PmnKOkt7fI
See, nadda to worry aboot!
Damn, I love that movie. Cleavon Little is one fine-looking man, oh yes.
Nothing more exciting than miles and miles of Iowa cornfields.
At least the children of the corn made things interesting.
I personally think Obama needs to dress up in a flight suit and land on an aircraft carrier while eating a deep fried stick of butter and humming Old Man River.
Barry better start tearing phone books in half, bending iron bars and shootin' varmints on his outings after that beating he took from the Annoying Orange and the teatard version of the seagulls from Finding Nemo.
Or say no every once in a while.
I'm still waiting to see hard evidence that the President took a beating. Just because Boehner *said* he got 98% of everything he wanted doesn't make it true, and upon examining the debt deal, I'm just not seeing a cave. I'm seeing negotiation, and a not-unmixed success, but I'm not seeing "spineless caving." I'd really appreciate if someone could point me to hard evidence from an unimpeachable source.
I'm with you. I still regard him as "The Magic President" because he's achieved so damn much, imho.
What we're seeing is "it's fucking easy to criticize", especially when the person doing the criticizing has a ideological point of view. Sure, we didn't get public option, which I'm pretty pissed about, but mostly I still think the Hopester kicks fucking ass.
We've waited 80 years for a health care bill, and Bill "The First Not-Black Black President" Clinton couldn't get it done. I want single-payer too, but I'm impressed that with a Congress this recalcitrant Our Hopey gave us this damn bill. Eighty damn years. I'm sticking with him because I'm not seeing anyone half as good on the horizon.
Ya know, this is one that's had me scratching my head for two weeks. Has anyone actually come up with a list of what's being cut? Because my understanding is that all the cuts get hashed out by the Super Committee, and if they can't come up with something, that triggers cuts that hit more of the defense budget than anything else, which theoretically is something I thought us libs support. Or is it simply that the word "cuts" triggers a Pavlovian reaction of "Obamer sold us out!"?
I also think about the budget deal this past spring, when the Repubs were trumpeting all the cuts Barry had supposedly agreed to, only to find out that it was mostly illusory, and the general consensus became that Barry had actually held the line. In fact, I'm sure it was the getting rolled on that deal that partially motivated the Tea Baggers to go to war over the debt ceiling (not that they needed much encouragement.)
I'm also amused that so many sat out the elections last fall out of pique, thereby giving Barry a Congress that would be more right-wing and harder to work with, and now they complain when he cuts deals with these guys, and start pining for Hillary. For Chrissakes, that was three years ago. Get over it.
Nate Silver (who pretty often gets it right) calls out the specifics: http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/08/...
Again, it's nowhere *near* as bad as the complainers would have had it. The week before this passed, I had begun to doubt the President. The constant drumbeat of "he's gonna fold, he'll give away the house, he doesn't know how to negotiate" really had me down. Reading the details satisfies my inner cynic and curmudgeon. I'm just not seeing the "caved, gave away the house, is a bumbling idiot" meme borne out in the facts and figures. If anything, he showed himself to be a very shrewd negotiator and got a much better deal than I had expected.
I'm pretty sure I voted in the midterms. I'm pretty sure I knew Barry was a moderate coming into office and voted for him. I'm pretty sure I understand the idea of pragmatism and compromise in politics.
What I don't understand is praising Bob Dole's healthcare plan without any shred of single payer on the horizon. Or how there are no tax increases or even a clear path as to raising other revenue.
Barry has wandered so far to the right it's ridiculous. Everybody makes sacrifices and at this point it's pretty damn one sided. I could give a rip what comes out of Boehner's suck. The simple fact is Barry played a game of chicken with teatards, even offering them a out on raising taxes and they still refused it. Not quite sure how he didn't get pummeled.
You keep looking at the immediate cuts and playing '"rah rah" cheerleaders like you're rooting for a flippin' sports team. If you're comfortable with the overall state of the nation (unadulterated corporate access, decimation of everything that has been fought for over the past 80 years, the destruction of the middle class) just because Barry is a "Democrat" you knock yourself out. But I suggest you take a wide angle look at the current situation and cap the use of the term "whining". I suggest you use the term "whining" in the face of someone who is feeling the sting of Barry's capitulation on a daily basis.
I backed him in his effort to compromise. I'm absolutely amazed the White House never went on the offensive. Not until his little bus tour, which completely avoided Wisconsin.
You keep playing fanboy instead of objectively looking at Barry's quests. Most likely I will vote for him again, that doesn't mean pressure shouldn't be kept on him to do the people's business.
Oh, so that's what I've been doing wrong. I haven't been looking at things OBJECTIVELY. Let me give that a try…..nope, still seeing it the same way.
Listen bubba, nobody looks at anything objectively. You bring your biases to everything. My bias – one of them – is that I don't think the president has nearly has much power as other people seem to think he does, and I think he's actually done a hell of a lot in 2+ years that he doesn't get nearly enough credit for, considering he's been saddled with an opposition party that would almost literally prefer to destroy the world than agree with him on anything. I also think it's a hell of an accomplishment for him to absorb all the attacks and name-calling with such calm dignity. Quite frankly, he's done more than I expected him to do. Going in, I thought he was a moderate who might get to do some small things like Clinton did in his second term, but nothing huge. Hence I tend to defend him when people accuse him of being the black Reagan, or whatever.
As for someone who feels "the sting of Barry's capitulation on a daily basis," um, what? I hear plenty of people complaining about the sting, and they mostly seem to be pundits and blog commenters who are incensed that he's not bringing home more victories for "their side" (but I'm the one rooting for him like a sports fan, apparently.) If you're talking about people being stung by the economy, I've been unemployed for two years, and there are plenty of people to blame for that besides Barry. He didn't wreck the economy, and he's not the only one responsible for the fact that it's not yet moving again.
As for the healthcare thing, good God, why is that the hill that progressives have decided to die on? A single-payer system had about ten votes in the Senate. That means that any single-payer bill would have to move far enough from the left to attract anywhere from 40 to 50 more senators, at which point it would no longer be some sort of single payer-public option whatever (assume anyone could agree on the definition of "public option" anyway, because I saw several different versions during the debate, and my opinion at this point is that "public option" has become a buzzword that's become more a symbol of something than an actual policy.) So Barry embraced a plan that required him to convince fewer people, and even then it still took a full year and his nearly constant attention and damn near incited a few riots and STILL barely squeaked through. You want more liberal health care reform? Elect a more liberal Congress.
Also, the public option issue? It was two years ago. Still complaining about it, to me, is like continuing to be upset that Hillary didn't win the election – it's over, done, in the past, get over it and let's get on to thinking about what we can do with the tools that we DO still have. But no, people still complain about the past and I reserve the right to call that "whining" until the word loses all meaning, thankyouverymuch.
This kind of shit is what drives me nuts about the 2010 elections…people complain Barry didn't do enough liberal stuff his first two years in office, so they not only don't vote but also get other people all riled up with the negativity and defeatism, thus allowing a much more rightwing Congress to get elected, and then complain that he's STILL not doing enough liberal stuff. Way to go.
I guess at the end of it, I'd rather people recognize that if you only get a quarter of a loaf, instead of sitting on your ass and complaining about it, you keep going back and back until you get the rest of it. I know, I know, it's harder than complaining.
In conclusion, fuck you, also and too.
Again, I ask the heavy-handed Barry-haters who come out to pile on these particular posts, why do you give a shit whether we vote for Obama or not, and why is it so important for you to "turn" those of us whose screens are not yet as spittle-flecked as yours?
I ignore them- just like I ignore Ralph Nader when I see him at Skewers.
There's pragmatism and then there's masochism. I'm sick of having my nipples proverbially twisted by ignorant, belligerent blue hairs.
Wow, that's some cool action you're getting. Pray, tell, who are these belligerent nipple-twisters, and where may I find them?
Move to Florida, walk out your front door and head toward the slow coaches holding the "don't touch my Medicare" signs. A bunch of kinky monkeys.
With all due respect, Chet, I don't see "Barry-haters" here, I just see people as frustrated with the Prez as they are with the Rethugs. After stalking Wonkette for years, I finally got up the energy to log on and post comments at least in part because I thought that no one was sacred on Wonkette, not even a Democratic President. If any politician is above getting dissed at this site, mebbe I belong elsewhere.
[continued from the previous comment because they wouldn't let me post it all in one comment] When I hopped on the plane in January of 2009 to fly back to my old stomping grounds in D.C., it wasn't to see Barack Obama get inaugurated, it was to see a black man get inaugurated, something I sincerely thought I'd never see in my lifetime, given the rampant racism still alive in 'Mur'ca. I joked earlier about leaving D.C. because of the heat and humidity (partly true), but more than that, I was just mfing tired of the South and the racial tension. I didn't vote for Jimmy Carter in 1976, because I saw "cracker", although he turned out to be a finer person, if not finer President, that I had imagined he would be, and held my nose voting for Clinton. Obama is what he is, but if people want to dump on him, as long as it isn't racist dumping, WTF?
Chet my friend I love but it's apparent there is nothing short of murdering a close relative that would cause you to NOT support the President. He may be a great guy. He's very smart. He's even pretty good looking but none of that is a substitute for a backbone.
With the Republicans determined to re-enact McCain-Palin with Perry-Bachmann, or create a Tea Party candidate all its own, Hopey ain't out of this game yet. I miss Hillary.

I realize this made little sense and I was stretching the premise but I felt like it.
I don't give a fuck how weak or corrupt he is, I will vote for him again just to do my part to drive the Rightards nucking futz.
Except he's neither weak nor corrupt. I keep asking for somebody, anybody, to give me some hard evidence that he is either, and I have not seen it. Of the $86 million he has raised so far, a significant percentage of it came from individual donors. The Hopey-Hate is just a giant myth churned out by the Mighty Wurlitzer of the RWNJ to divide the lefties and cause them to turn on each other. Until I see concrete evidence to the contrary, that is my point of view.
With the same due respect I gave to Chet Kincaid earlier, why is disappointment with the policies and tactics of the Obama administration "Hopey-Hate"? When did the Obama White House become sacred ground? If anyone is above snark at Wonkette, I may have to go elsewhere. And really, "Hopey-Hate is just a giant myth … to divide the lefties and cause them to turn on each other"? Are you saying that people that snark on Obama at Wonkette have been influenced by the right-wing media to do so? Really?
I wasn't referring to you specifically. I am also Teh disappointz with a lot of stuff the Pres has done, but obviously, I don't hate him. I'm referring to the media which keeps telling me that the LGBTQ community “has given up” on the President; that Jews have “turned their backs” on him; that Latinos plan to sit out the election, that Tavis Smiley and Cornel West are leading a bus tour against him, thereby proving that Teh Blax hate him. To me, that's Hopey-Hate. Criticism of him is absolutely justified, as long as it's valid. Criticizing him for failing to crack down on Wall St. or the previous administration's war crimes, or the endless war, or putting an end to stop-loss that forces our military into multiple tours of duty – all justified, valid, and concurred with. I should hope I did not at any time indicate that I thought the President was above criticism. But if anyone's going to claim “Hopey caved,” then I, just as respectfully as you, ask that that someone give me hard evidence. Criticizing the President for killing bin Laden? Not justified. A judgment call. I don't agree with it or like it, but I find his reasons for doing what he did valid and acceptable. Finally, I am absolutely NOT saying that people that snark on Obama *at Wonkette* have been influenced by RW media to do so. What I AM saying is that we, on the left, have a tendency to beat each other up over fine points of disagreement far more than righties do.There are a lot of sites in the world other than Wonkette, and the infection is visible at many of them. I love my lefty brothers and sisters for their refusal to march in lockstep, but there are times when they exasperate me. But — that is not the same thing as in any way refusing them the right to speak their minds and criticize at will. I haven't the power to do that. I'm just another commenter, hitherto unknown, newly arrived on the scene. Just don't expect me not to jump to my President's defense. If my line of argument bothers you, say so, and I will exempt you in future from my criticism, since it is not my intent to subject anyone to harrassment rather than discourse.
Nah, I didn't take it personally, just wanted to clarify things in my mind.
I don't think anyone is saying Hopey is somehow off-limits. He gets bashed a lot around here for somehow being spineless and wimpy, and those who disagree are pushing back. It gets heated, that's all.
As for the second half of your comment, I can't speak for PP, but my opinion is that the media in general, not just the right, loves the "Obama Vs. the Left" story because they see everything through the lens of conflict, of who is up and who is down. But it certainly helps the right to have the Hopey-Hate on the left turned up as high as possible – hell, just witness the 2010 elections, when quite a few lefties proudly announced they would sit it out. Kevin Drum makes the point here: http://motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2011/08/liberal...
I never understood why any lefties sat out the 2010 elections. I had to hold my nose in a couple of cases, but I voted because the Republican alternatives were horrific. We're never going to wrest the nation back from the wingtards over the long haul unless we start electing real populists at the local level and work our way up.
As for the linked article, I just have to reiterate that people (?pdogs?) like me aren't upset with Obama over his inability to get everything we wanted – we know and despise what the Rethugs have done on Capitol Hill. It's more about (1) his aversion to conflict, (2) his apparent lack of a coherent political strategy once he got into office, and (3) his apparent lack of desire, until very recently, to even talk to the American people and present his case clearly to them. Rightly or wrongly, he comes across as a facilitator at a time when many of us are looking for a leader. And his choice of advisors is inexplicable, to me anyway, unless I surmise that he is beholden to Wall Street more than he would ever admit.
"quite a few lefties proudly announced they would sit it out"
I think quite a few lefties talk/write a lot of bullshit … wonder how many of them actually didn't vote? Having a bad economy meant a bad election for the party holding power; it just made things worse that all the idiotic low-knowledge voters had to vote against Medicare-stealing and death panels.
Thank you for this, flamingpdog. Quite frankly, I was tired for Wonkette getting smeared as some kind of irrational hate site because some people have pointed criticisms of the president of the United States. It'd be different if we were all PUMAs, who we're largely disingenuous with their "concerns", but them we are not, not by a long shot.
Bush would have killed for 39% at the end of his term. No, really; he'd have shot someone point blank in the face for those numbers.
Obama was kicked off a bus tour of the Midwest? How rude.
BTW, Obama's problem mostly is "other people 24/7". This is one of the rare cases where his own problem is that he's trying to deal with irrational humans rationally.
Ya know, I love bus plunge stories, but they only seem to happen in third-world countries. Is there some way we could get Sarah Palin to run one of her bus vacations in Peru or Chile?
BTW, a Gallup tracking poll literally changes from day-to-day. From what I heard, he's back at 41% as of yesterday. You have to take weeks, even months, of a tracking poll to discern a trend. It is actually surprising that he's not doing worse.
Wait until the FOX News/Rasmussen Reports comes in, he should be in minus numbers there…

I've seen that. The more aggressive purveyors of anti-Barry anger and gloom out there have sent me in search of realistic insight in the last couple of weeks. I'd throw out some URLs, but then I'd just get accused of trying to make my "quota."
No, it's him. He ran as a Democrat and governs as a near-neocon. Point four in that article is "win by winning over your adversaries", but Obama translated that as "win by bending over backwards for anything your adversaries want up to and usually including giving up the very positions your base elected yo to hold firm to". It's asinine.

Fair enough. I'll assume we're all good now and everything's suitably clarified, unless I hear different from ya.
All those things are true, and the evidence I have about lefties not voting is largely anecdotal. My larger view is that when people loudly and proudly trumpet giving up on the process and sitting it out and saying fuck it, Obama's just like Reagan, all that kind of talk acts like poison to other lefties. It becomes self-defeating.
