America’s Murder of 54-Year-Old Terror Suspect Celebrated In Taiwanese Web Cartoon

by Ken Layne

Do you remember the world before every day’s news was quickly animated into some ironic nonsense by computer artists in Taiwan working for a Murdoch-style tabloid/sleaze media empire in Asia? Do you have even faint memories of your own existence before YouTube? Well, former CIA contractor/anti-Soviet mujaheddin leader Osama bin Laden lived most of his life before all that. And the 9/11 attacks he is most remembered for — even though he was never actually accused of having any role beyond being a religious zealot figurehead for an oppressed Islamic people’s movement against American imperialism — happened well before we all spent our entire sad lives watching “Web Video.”

But now, with this brief and wacky animation and those beers people drank out of cans last night outside the White House and the gaping pit left by the collapse of the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan, America is healed. [NMA]

Now we can build a proper memorial at Ground Zero.

Right?

horsedreamer_1 May 2, 2011 at 12:14 pm

A statue of Phillip Petite, you mean?

GhostBuggy May 2, 2011 at 2:42 pm

Ha ha! No.

Lionel[redacted]Esq May 2, 2011 at 6:52 pm

A bunch of empty beer cans?

Gopherit May 2, 2011 at 12:17 pm

I really hope someone kept the mission accomplished banner. That sucker needs to come out again.

horsedreamer_1 May 2, 2011 at 12:34 pm

Isn't it at the Presidential Library at SMU?

Gopherit May 2, 2011 at 12:42 pm

I thought it was in his personal masturbatorium, along with the flight suit with the stuffed jock.

ifthethunderdontgetya May 2, 2011 at 12:18 pm

Nice work, computer artists in Taiwan!

You quickly realized who the real victim is…Donald Trump.

P.S. See! (link to Drudge screencap)

DahBoner May 2, 2011 at 1:29 pm

How do you say 'Fuck you very much!' in Taiwanese?

RavenRant May 2, 2011 at 8:46 pm

Sarah Palin finally passes "The Real Victim" torch? I thought she'd never give that thing up.

Chillwaver May 2, 2011 at 12:19 pm

So he was hiding at "911 Jihad Street"….why the hell took so long then???

$exy$murf May 2, 2011 at 12:22 pm

Didn't Johnny Depp get his start on 911 Jihad Street?

mavenmaven May 2, 2011 at 12:55 pm

They had to work their way through from 1 Jihad Street.

neiltheblaze May 2, 2011 at 12:20 pm

I thought Osama being sodomized by pigs was a whimsical touch.

RavenRant May 2, 2011 at 8:48 pm

I never want to be on the receiving end of your 'whimsy'.

neiltheblaze May 2, 2011 at 9:53 pm

I liked the part where Barry butt-kicks Donald off the podium too.

RavenRant May 2, 2011 at 10:04 pm

I wasn’t sure if that was Donald or WH spokesman Carney. The hair didn’t look orange and crazy enough to be Donald. Maybe they slipped up on that detail, though.

HempDogbane May 2, 2011 at 12:20 pm

Charles Bronson is looking pretty good for his age !

WriteyWriterton May 2, 2011 at 12:26 pm

Remember his self-congratulatory video where he (OBL, not Ken L.) talked about how well the tower attack worked? I do.

Gopherit May 2, 2011 at 12:27 pm

You know who else was a zealot figurehead who was killed for opposing american imperialism…..

WriteyWriterton May 2, 2011 at 12:31 pm

Trotsky?

WriteyWriterton May 2, 2011 at 12:32 pm

I mean Lenin.

nounverb911 May 2, 2011 at 12:32 pm

Right now, I am too hungover from last night. When sober and not hungover, I block out such unpleasant thoughts.

memzilla May 2, 2011 at 12:32 pm

Bin Laden now sleeps with the fishes. Where's the GodJihadfather meme, HENNNNNNGH?

horsedreamer_1 May 2, 2011 at 12:35 pm

& his father, at the undertaker's, beseeching, "Look what they have done to my boy?"

BaldarTFlagass May 2, 2011 at 12:33 pm

All the Jack Daniels bottles and Coke cans lying around the body were a nice touch, too.

BaldarTFlagass May 2, 2011 at 12:36 pm

I saw what you did, Chinese animators! The fist bump with Bush was awesome.

Oblios_Cap May 2, 2011 at 12:37 pm

Squeal like a pig, boy!

ttommyunger May 2, 2011 at 2:06 pm

Now you jest drop them panties right now, boy!

Seriously, Ken? He fucking admitted it. And to answer his rhetorical question, "should a man be blamed for defending his sanctuary," first of all, this asshole got kicked out of Saudi Arabia by the Saudis for being too extreme. Southwest Asia isn't "his sanctuary" any more than the Western Hemisphere is mine because I got kicked out of a bar in State College PA once. And second, yes, a man should be blamed for fucking murdering thousands of people who never did anything to him because he thought it would send a message.

Ban me and/or downfist me if you must, but to call bin Laden a douchebag is an insult to fine upstanding douchebags everywhere. I'm glad the fucker's dead and I wish I believed in hell so I could imagine him rotting there.

ifthethunderdontgetya May 2, 2011 at 12:47 pm

You can get in trouble for calling for the murder of our Presidents.

Badonkadonkette May 2, 2011 at 12:50 pm

EDIT: So I still don't believe in hell, but the pig rape was a real nice touch.

DarwinianDemon May 2, 2011 at 12:42 pm

Yea…I thought the same.

You know, you can disagree with american foreign policy without having to paint a terrorist who targeted civilians as "misunderstood underdog".

WriteyWriterton May 2, 2011 at 12:45 pm

I'm not endorsing the method here. I would have preferred a trial for OBL. And I'm for no torture, and no oppressive pre-trial treatment of B. Manning, while I'm on the subject.

If the plan was to seize him, but he resisted and used deadly force, to which we responded with deadly force, it's a standard arrest-gone-violent. If we planned to kill him, well, I don't endorse it. I don't support capital punishment or state-sponsored assassination. I wanted to lock him away for life in an 8×8 cell, with pictures of his victims from all over the world behind a thick lucite wall, with the lights left on "bright" for 16 hours every day. That would work for me.

mumbly_joe May 2, 2011 at 12:50 pm

Right, but let's be honest- even if we'd captured him, America has kinda become allergic to actually using justice to prosecute people who do crimes. In the end, we'd just do another KSM-gitmo thing, down to aforementioned pictures in one's underwear again, and the long-term consequences would probably be at least as bad as turning him inot a martyr as we did.

In an ideal world, yeah, we'd actually hold trials and convict people, and send them to prison. But nowadays that's derided as the "law-enforcement approach" to terrorism, and nobody actually pauses to notice that the opposite of the "law-enforcement" approach would, by definition, be the "lawless" one.

yyyaz May 2, 2011 at 1:18 pm

Well said. Let me just add that jailing bin Laden would open a Pandora's Box of religion- and race-based hatred and divisiveness that would consume what little oxygen is left for the dying body of rational discourse in this country. Tough call by the CMI, but it was the pragmatic one, and, in hindsight, probably the predictable one as well.

Fuck Toad May 2, 2011 at 2:31 pm

Well, the reason we "can't" prosecute KSM is because the Bush administration tortured him. Nobody tortured UBL and presumably there would be plenty of evidence to convict him. We could have prosecuted him. We didn't. Maybe we didn't have a chance to, but that's a damn shame.

mumbly_joe May 2, 2011 at 2:54 pm

No, the fact taht we tortured him just means we can't use the poisoned fruit of that torture. There is presumably some independent evidence against him, else the DoJ wouldn't even bother trying to take him out of Trial-less Foreverjail to prosecute him.

The reason we "can't" prosecute KSM is that Congress specifically reverse-earmarked funding to transfer detainees out of gitmo and into US courts, and because Obama is too pussy-ass to credibly threaten a veto or use a signing statement. Bush vetoed a defense bill over the idea of ever having "deadlines", and Obama can't over something as fundamental as government principles like due process.

Gopherit May 2, 2011 at 12:56 pm

If this is imperialism, boy do we suck at it.

I'm waiting to see if they cop to this being a wetwork job. We have a long history of making our own monsters and then making a mess of "fixing" the problem. And yeah, the flag waving is bothering me a bit.

AJW@[redacted] May 2, 2011 at 1:01 pm

He was resisting arrest, of course.

RavenRant May 2, 2011 at 8:51 pm

PCP?

mavenmaven May 2, 2011 at 1:09 pm

Anyone see this one? http://imgur.com/gallery/IDsF2 Good companion video to that one.

Fucking Awesome!

DashboardBuddha May 2, 2011 at 6:50 pm

Pretty cool.

Andrew Drinker May 2, 2011 at 1:11 pm

Not to be a big poophead, but it was actually more like just a really long afternoon/evening at work, since Taiwan is 12 hours ahead of Eastern time…

Native_of_SL_UT May 2, 2011 at 1:13 pm

I hope this is nominated for animated short at the next Academy Awards.

Hatrabbit May 2, 2011 at 1:21 pm

PROOF!!

politics_nerd May 2, 2011 at 1:24 pm

They forgot the human shield (woman he was hiding behind when our boyz capped him in the DOME).

widestanceroman May 2, 2011 at 1:29 pm

Nice touch with the pigsecs, which inspired me to decide that if I had been The Gunman, I would have shot him through the eye with a ham bullet.

GodShammgod May 2, 2011 at 1:37 pm

"even though he was never actually accused of having any role beyond being a religious zealot figurehead for an oppressed Islamic people’s movement against American imperialism"

No.

ttommyunger May 2, 2011 at 2:08 pm

These motherfuckers have jobs making this shit up and we have none! WTF?

Lazy Media May 2, 2011 at 2:25 pm

an oppressed Islamic people’s movement against American imperialism

That's some Fark-quality trolling right there. How about "a spoiled Saudi rich kid's fake revolutionary movement that picked up the U.S. as a target only after said rich kid's plans to become the military dictator of Saudi Arabia were rejected by the Saudis."

MiniMencken May 2, 2011 at 2:34 pm

I'll never be able to order moo-shu pork again without laughing a little to myself.

carlgt1 May 2, 2011 at 4:01 pm

well there was that bin Laden video where he described (to some imams) how he knew the attacks would collapse the towers etc; but I suppose people could claim that was a false translation.

imissopus May 2, 2011 at 7:08 pm

It's been awhile since I read The Looming Tower, but I seem to recall Lawrence Wright describing a scene on 9/11 when Osama and some of his lieutenants were listening on a shortwave radio to the first news reports of a plane crashing into the WTC, and Osama held up three fingers to indicate, to some amazement from those who didn't know about the operation ahead of time, that there were three more planes to come.

But yeah, a figurehead. Again, fer fuck's sake.

rambone May 2, 2011 at 4:22 pm

Keep fucking that chicken Ken!

Beowoof May 2, 2011 at 6:01 pm

Love the Sonny Corleone treatment he got in the video. And I love the Osama pig party at the end. Happy Happy thoughts for this guy.

I have been hoping when they buried him, the taped a couple of racks of ribs to his ass.

PrimlyStable May 2, 2011 at 8:52 pm

I have been hoping when they buried him, the taped a couple of racks of ribs to his ass.

Ick. That's the kind of crap I expect from Freeper types rather than the Wonketteers.

Beowoof May 3, 2011 at 10:34 am

Sorry but this guy was acting in the name of his religion when he killed so many. He believed that his killing innocents would get him into heaven and whole bunch of virgins in the process. The tenets of his religion say his cannot come into contact with pork or he will not get into heaven. If strapping some pork products to him would deny him his goal I am all for it.

PrimlyStable May 2, 2011 at 8:46 pm

Today, we ALL live at 911 Jihad Street.

RavenRant May 2, 2011 at 8:57 pm

Where are Naked Satan's man-parts?

fuflans May 2, 2011 at 10:07 pm

and that i always knew this would be the case?

BZ1 May 2, 2011 at 10:40 pm

who were the demonic singers at the end?

lochnessmonster May 3, 2011 at 5:05 pm

My iPad won't let me watch it. It says "This video is private". Nice tease Wonkette!

AFKensington May 4, 2011 at 12:07 am

Video made private now. Sad face…
