Teabaggers Oppose Cuts To Medicare and Medicaid When Polled About It, of Course

by Jack Stuef  3:56 pm April 21, 2011

In a McClatchy-Marist poll released this week, 70% of registered voters who identify with the Tea Party opposed making cuts to either Medicare or Medicaid — the government-run health programs for the elderly and the poor — to help reduce the nation’s deficit. Meanwhile, only 28% of tea partiers said they’d be willing to cut spending on those two programs.

But did the poll ask the Teabaggers if they support “ARGH! ARGH! ARGH ARGH ARGH!” or “HUMMMMNGAKJNVKA! HUMMMMMMMMMNGAKJNVKA!”? Because they definitely like those. By a landslide.

What a bunch of socialists. [TPM]

I loved the video of Paul Ryan getting destroyed by the olds at his town hall meeting yesterday.

DaRooster April 21, 2011 at 4:04 pm

Sounds promising.

THAT guy is a fuck-nut.

V572..whatever April 21, 2011 at 4:16 pm

But he wrote a courageous budget.

CliveWarren April 21, 2011 at 4:23 pm

So brave.

DaRooster April 21, 2011 at 4:28 pm

I think "Incorrigible"

He is one of those guys that, even though he was the biggest pussy in school, he still walked around like he could kick anyone's ass… he couldn't… I would love to prove it to him… again. http://www.youtube.com/verify_age?next_url=http%3...

fuflans April 22, 2011 at 1:23 am

good. god.

Radio_Level_7 April 21, 2011 at 4:31 pm

Dammit, V, as much as I disdain that Dickensian budget proposal, and the prick that is Ryan, it's the stupid semantics and narrative by the MSM that makes it worse. You know who else was courageous?

V572..whatever April 21, 2011 at 4:38 pm

Medal of Honor recipient US Army Sergeant Sal Guinta?

Sorry to mention him here. Ryan isn't fit to clean out Giunta's latrine. But it's instructive to have an example of actual courage to compare.

arihaya April 21, 2011 at 5:00 pm

courage is what you only need to run yourself under the bus

DaRooster April 21, 2011 at 5:05 pm

That too sounds promising for Ryan.

JustPixelz April 21, 2011 at 9:16 pm

It would have been even more courageous if he had included all current and near seniors in his wondrous, money-saving, America-saving, senior-life-saving medicare shell game.

(My mother-in-law has trouble deciding what channel to watch, so I'm not sure how she'll handle all those insurance choices.)

CapnFatback April 21, 2011 at 4:01 pm

It's all in how you phrase the question. To obtain a true "Tea Party" response, the pollsters should ask whether they favor cutting ObaMedicare and ObaMedicaid.

Sparky_McGruff April 21, 2011 at 9:54 pm

They could also ask if they support kicking the "coloreds" out of Medicare and Medicaid. They're white folks so they deserve it. It's those coloreds that ruin it for everyone.

nounverb911 April 21, 2011 at 4:01 pm

Like Lindsey Graham?

chicken_thief April 21, 2011 at 4:25 pm

Hey, Ms Lindsay has a real friend. At least on the days that Walnuts is alert enough to recognize him.

Boredw/Gravitas April 21, 2011 at 4:02 pm

They set these monsters on us, and now start whining about the results. Screw 'em. Screw 'em all. They can take their snake flags and shove them up their ample rears for all I care.

Pragmatist2 April 21, 2011 at 4:03 pm

Thank you. This reinforces my bias that Tea Baggers are a bunch of lifelong losers who are totally gobsmacked at the notion that someone else may have bilked more from the government than they have.

pukebot April 21, 2011 at 4:03 pm

but do they oppose cuts in having testicles dragged across their faces?

CliveWarren April 21, 2011 at 4:16 pm

Do you mean Jesuscare? Administered by Father "Doctor" O'Flanagan.

chicken_thief April 21, 2011 at 4:19 pm

They've adopted the Larry Craig stance on that issue…

wonkettkinkster April 22, 2011 at 11:32 am

I'm pretty sure the Larry Craig Stance has been officially banned in the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport, which is the only place it's called "The Larry Craig". In the bathhouses of Fire Island, it's called "cruising".

DaRooster April 21, 2011 at 4:24 pm

"but do they oppose cuts in having testicles dragged across their faces? "

But do they oppose having cuts in their testicles and being dragged through feces?

bagofmice April 21, 2011 at 8:00 pm

I thought the rule "bloop bloop, balls in soup"

SorosBot April 21, 2011 at 4:04 pm

DaRooster April 21, 2011 at 4:05 pm

It is amazing that Faux Nudes always reports about them being FOR getting rid of these things… Me thinks SOMEONE is cornfused.

MinAgain April 21, 2011 at 4:06 pm

Hypocrisy. It is a difficult concept.

Sophist [غني عن ذلك] April 21, 2011 at 4:24 pm

It's not so much hypocrisy as it is the results of being intentionally and systematically lied to and deceived by conservatives and their enablers in the media about virtually every aspect of governance. This is nothing new, polls consistently show that when you strip away politically charged language and ask the questions in a non-leading, neutral way most people are a lot more liberal than they otherwise might seem. They've just been trained to have a negative emotional response to certain words associated with liberal political positions (like the word "liberal" itself, in fact). That's why they've gone to such effort to fulminate against some imaginary thing called "Obamacare".

FlownOver April 21, 2011 at 4:06 pm

We have become a nation of shoplifters.

horsedreamer_1 April 21, 2011 at 4:22 pm

Perry Ferrell has announced he's willing to option "Accused of Stealing" for the new national anthem — for the right price.

UpFistTroll April 21, 2011 at 5:01 pm

Of course, this will not work, because America will steal it.

BZ1 April 21, 2011 at 4:11 pm

Perhaps it's because they all have a pre-existing condition, being dimwitted?

SkinnyNerd April 21, 2011 at 4:11 pm

I think that most of these people are lost. They look at Democrats, they look at Republicans, and they say to themselves, "What is going on here? Nobody cares about working people like me." So then these politicians come down and give these people the morality pitch, and they say, "At least this guy cares about family values, I care about that." So then they just vote for them. I think if we spent less time mocking the flyover states, and focusing on how to get our message to them, they would flock to progressive candidates in droves. We also have to work on actually fielding progressive candidates, we have really let the ball slip on that one.

I remember reading in the Village Voice many years ago about a white separatist who decided to show up to his child's school to have a say and saw that black parents cared about the same things he did he stopped being a separatist. I know it sounds all honky dory and such but I think all these polls showing that teabaggers want rich people taxed, Medicare left alone, etc. prove that they are just lost and quite frankly alienated. We need to step up.

natoslug April 21, 2011 at 4:15 pm

Sigh . . . well, since I shaved my scrote yesterday, I suppose I could "step up".

chicken_thief April 21, 2011 at 4:22 pm

That's a pretty goddammed thoughtful response… what are you doing here?!!!!

Radio_Level_7 April 21, 2011 at 4:33 pm

It's an Alinsky trick, don't fall for it!

V572..whatever April 21, 2011 at 5:51 pm

One suggestion: don't tell any residents of flyover country that you read something in the Village Voice. Oh and don't call it "flyover country" either — oddly enough, Flyovernians find that condescending. Like that recent article in "Slate" that said everyone in the Midwest wears clogs. They do, of course, but they don't like to be reminded of it.

CapnFatback April 21, 2011 at 6:40 pm

I wear clogs over my Crocs.

Janinthepan April 22, 2011 at 10:01 am

You are very correct. There is a democratic representative in Appalachia Ohio who is very popular with her constituents, even though she is a feminist liberal hippie. No seriously, she lived in a comune, and not the religious kind. The fact is, is that she goes to all of these little ex-coal towns, goes door to door, and talks to everyone she can. The result is you have a lot of people who you think would be ignorant teabaggers, voting for things like schools, and child services. It's pretty awesome and unique.

SorosBot April 21, 2011 at 4:14 pm

And the English, don't forget them.

CliveWarren April 21, 2011 at 4:20 pm

"McClatchy-Marist poll"

These neo-Marists and their polls cannot be trusted.

johnnymeatworth April 21, 2011 at 4:21 pm

Well, of course, Medicare pays for the scooters.

SayItWithWookies April 21, 2011 at 4:22 pm

Hey neophytes — welcome to the real world and its complications. Now do you think — just possibly — there could be other big-government programs that aren't defense or prisons that might be beneficial to the population? Just take some time and give it some thought. Use that thing that holds up your tricorn hat for a while.

DustBowlBlues April 21, 2011 at 5:00 pm

" Just take some time and give it some thought. "

Thought? Thought? A Republican? When did "my" the wonket become so littered with idealists?

Gleem_McShineys April 21, 2011 at 5:55 pm

Use that thing that holds up your tricorn hat for a while.

You are probably going to need to be a little more specific here. Jamming it up their own asses is, technically speaking, 'using it.'

widestanceroman April 21, 2011 at 4:31 pm

Just wait until they realize they can't afford Rascal's Non-Medicare-funded bumper-to-bumper warranties.

pinkocommi April 21, 2011 at 4:32 pm

The conundrum of the right is their belief that everyone is undeserving except themselves.

OzoneTom April 21, 2011 at 4:40 pm

It's that amygdala thing that precludes any form of empathy.

MadBrahms April 22, 2011 at 12:44 am

On the other hand, it's entirely possible they're feeling plenty of empathy, but that it's the empathy of the angry mob.

glamourdammerung April 21, 2011 at 4:38 pm

Keep in mind that general about 20-25% of Americans polled do not realize the Earth revolves around the Sun.

nounverb911 April 21, 2011 at 5:27 pm

Tide comes in, stains go out, who can explain it?

emmelemm April 21, 2011 at 5:53 pm

Or that President Obama was born in Hawai'i, with a bird certificat that's just as purdy and sweet as theirs is.

SERIOUSLY, who are these 25%? And what do we have to do to get rid of them?

RedneckMuslin April 21, 2011 at 6:07 pm

I'll be right back….

hagajim April 21, 2011 at 4:39 pm

I WANTZ MY MEDICARE AND MEDICAIDS….JUST DON'T GIVE ME NO NIGGRA HEALTHCARE!!!!

Sparky_McGruff April 21, 2011 at 9:57 pm

AND DON"T GIVE NO NIGGRAS HEALTHCARES EITHER!!!!

DaSandman April 21, 2011 at 4:42 pm

Whenever anyone says or writes the word Teabaggers, I hear banjos.

nounverb911 April 21, 2011 at 5:28 pm

Teabagger! (Steve Martin and friends play the Banjo)

Okay, how about sac-sniffers? 'Nad nibblers? Nut huffers? Huevos whiffers? Crotch gobblers? Ball kissers? Scrotum skimmers? Oyster eaters? Teste ticklers….?

SorosBot April 21, 2011 at 4:44 pm

It's tea and crumpets, right?

yellowerdog April 21, 2011 at 4:49 pm

If I may be allowed the observation, I think that Ms. Lizzie is the crumpet here, and likely very tasty!

Limeylizzie April 21, 2011 at 7:08 pm

Awww. I love the boys and girls of Wonkette. Not sure which one you are but I flirt with men and women equally.

Limeylizzie April 21, 2011 at 4:57 pm

I am awfully partial to scones and clotted cream with fresh strawberries.

finallyhappy April 21, 2011 at 5:41 pm

Yes, I've never been offered crumpets at tea in England(but maybe because it has always been at hotels or tea rooms)

TanzbodenKoenig April 21, 2011 at 5:47 pm

You had me at scones and lost me at clotted cream. Thats just a fancy way to say "i forgot to put the milk back in the fridge and now its all lumpy"

Limeylizzie April 21, 2011 at 6:04 pm

Noooo, it is like the richest thickest cream, it is not lumpy at all, it's thick and creamy and delicious. You could also have Double Devon cream whch is more like creme fraiche, my name is Elizabeth and I am a dairyaholic.

Ducksworthy April 21, 2011 at 5:27 pm

Also for persons exposed to excessive mercuric chloride in the tanning of beaver pelts for hats.

Redhead April 21, 2011 at 5:37 pm

Depends on how the question was asked.

"Do you support funding cuts for socialist government health care programs?" – 100% of teabaggers said yes.
"Do you support funding cuts for the program that pays for your motorized scooter?" – 88% said no (the other 12 % don't have a scooter… yet.)

Gleem_McShineys April 21, 2011 at 6:12 pm

So I guess this gives Republicans a very clear mandate on how to handle this new development: double the usual levels of lying and misinformation.

It may be pie-in-the-sky dreaming, but with enough work, maybe they could get a full 100% of people who don't understand shit about shit!

Did the poll clear up the Teabaggers' feelings about going back to Walbrook, or staying with their brother, Charlie Babbit?

Guppy06 April 21, 2011 at 6:32 pm

The unasked question:

"Are you aware the GOP is proposing to do just that?"

I'm thinking the results would be 8% "no" and 96% "You lie!"

Callyson April 21, 2011 at 6:44 pm

So, how long before FAUX NOISE commentators start going on about the "Obama Medicare Cuts Plan," compared to the GOP "Save Medicare for Seniors Plan"?
(Perhaps they have already started to do so…I do not posess the emotional fortitude required to tune in…)

OzoneTom April 21, 2011 at 7:33 pm

I am only against it for "those people."

Gopherit April 21, 2011 at 7:45 pm

Whatever, ask that same 70% whether Medicare/Medicaid are government programs. Go ahead and ask, and be shocked by the results.

JustPixelz April 21, 2011 at 9:11 pm

Perhaps we should only give Medicare to people who can pass a citizenship test. That would cut costs quite a bit. Some deaths may occur, but — really — were these people going to follow the instructions on the pill bottles anyway?

JustPixelz April 21, 2011 at 9:18 pm

The part that confuses me is how Ryan's plan excludes over 55s, so it won't save any money for ten years. But he says Medicare will run out of money in nine years. OH WAIT! I think I know what his plan is.

horsedreamer_1 April 22, 2011 at 9:07 am

Soylent Green?

ttommyunger April 21, 2011 at 10:48 pm

Keep the gumment's hands offa them whatever ya do.

MadBrahms April 22, 2011 at 12:42 am

This is what make's Ryan's scheme so diabolical. You can't take away benefits outright, but you can wrap reductions in the language of "individual choice" and "expanded options" and blather on about how the private sector will deliver *more*. It's so infuriating.

XOhioan April 22, 2011 at 6:14 pm

However, most of them support Diabeetus.
